Une première victoire pour
Andrew Ranger aux États-Unis!

 

ST-EUSTACHE – Il n’aura fallu que trois courses au double champion de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire, le Québécois Andrew Ranger pour remporter une première victoire dans la série NASCAR K&N Pro Series et aussi sa première en sol américain.

 

 

Le pilote de Roxton Pond disputait samedi après-midi la course Thunder Valley Casino Resort 200 à la  Infineon Raceway de Sonoma en Californie ; un circuit qu’il a découvert pour la première jeudi et lors des essais de vendredi avant la qualification où il avait obtenu la 8e place sur la grille de départ avec la Chevrolet de l’équipe américaine du Vermont Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports.

 

À l’issue de sa 8e place sur la grille de départ, Andrew était particulièrement déçu. « Surtout que lors des essais, je m’étais retrouvé en quatrième position. On veut toujours avancer, pas reculer ! »

 

C’est exactement ce qu’il a fait durant cette première participation dans cette série très compétitive alors qu’il n’a mis qu’un tour pour se retrouver dans le groupe des cinq premiers en gagnant trois positions avant d’avoir complété le premier tour.

 

Le champion défendant de cette course des deux dernières années, Jason Bowles a pris la position de commande dès le premier tour malgré la menace de David Mayhew, le meneur au championnat dans la division Ouest de cette série très populaire alors qu’il y avait 36 voitures au départ.

 

Bowles a dominé les 16 premiers tours, avant de céder la commande au vétéran Boris Said pendant son ravitaillement. C’est au 21e tour qu’Andrew a effectué son arrêt pour le plein de carburant et à son retour en piste il a dû se battre à nouveau pour gagner des positions.

 

À la reprise après la deuxième neutralisation, au 29e des 61 tours, Andrew s’est retrouvé en deuxième place derrière le vétéran et expérimenté Dave Gilliland. Au 37e tour, ce dernier était toujours premier, mais talonné sérieusement par Bowles. Malgré tous ses efforts ce dernier était incapable de prendre le Québécois en défaut.

 

C’est en croisant la ligne d’arrivée au 44e tour qu’Andrew Ranger est parvenu à devancer, de très peu, Gilliland pour la première fois. Il n’a pas pu rester devant. Il est finalement parvenu à ses fins au 50e tour et six tours plus tard, il a été très agressif pour défendre sa position démontrant à tous qu’il avait beaucoup de caractère au volant d’une voiture de course.

 

Puis peu à peu, Andrew a commencé à creuser l’écart sur ses poursuivants et en amorçant le dernier tour, il avait 1,8 seconde d’avance sur Bowles revenu en force après le ralentissement pour ennuis de Gilliland au 58e tour.

 

Dans le dernier tour, Bowles a manqué de carburant pour s’arrêter à 50 pieds de l’arrivée. Derrière le pilote québécois on retrouvait Paulie Harraka, Brandon Davis, Eric Holmes, Michael Self, Todd Souza, Luis Martinez Jr, Jim Inglebright, Moses Smith et Wes Banks.

 

Un pilote très heureux

 

« Wow… tout un feeling de gagner une première course aux États-Unis surtout devant tout le monde de la coupe Sprint de NASCAR et tous les journalistes américains qui m’ont parlé après la course. »

 

Ce ne fut pas qu’une partie de plaisir… y compris à la fin car près avoir reçu le quadrillé et durant son tour d’honneur, ce fut au tour d’Andrew de manquer de carburant. On a dû le pousser jusque dans le cercle des vainqueurs où il a été accueilli en héros.

 

« Ce fut très serré dans un groupe de cinq-six voitures du début à la fin. Ça pousse fort et j’ai eu besoin de toute ma concentration. Je me suis fait frapper par Gilliland. Là je me suis dit : respire par le nez, reste calme, tu es capable. C’est exactement ce qui est arrivé sauf que j’ai eu chaud à la fin.

 

« Deux virages avant la ligne d’arrivée, le moteur a commencé à manquer. Je me suis laissé aller à la chicane, puis j’ai accéléré très fort pour traverser la ligne, mais à 100 pieds de l’arrivée le moteur est tombé en passe de carburant. Ce fut très serré. Je suis super content, l’équipe aussi surtout que ce n’est que leur deuxième victoire. »

 

Aucun doute, cette victoire risque de l’aider considérablement dans la suite de sa carrière aux États-Unis.

 

Ses deux prochaines courses, le samedi 3 juillet alors qu’il disputera une course de la série NASCAR K&N Pro Series Est à la piste de Lime Rock au Connecticut avant de prendre rapidement un avion après la fin pour se rendre à l’autodrome de St-Eustache où il participera au National 250, la troisième manche de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire.

Delaware Speedway - June 19 recap and results

STEVE BOOK DOMINATES FIRST ENDURO NIGHT RACE OF 2010!

June 19, 2010 (London, Ontario)

This season's first night Transmission Direct Enduro and Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos race was hot – in action and in temperature.  Plenty of drivers had their cars overheat – some made it back out to race and some didn't.  It was Steve Book's race despite his 64 having some mechanical issues earlier in the evening, too.

 

Pole sitter Terry Cole remained the race leader through some early trouble including a rollover at lap 3 that no one – not even that car's driver – seemed to be able to explain.  Matt Lassaline (24) rolled at least twice prompting the second time the night's sponsor, Whitworth Towing, had to haul a rollover off the track.  (The first was during a heat race) The 182 of Manny Demelo was also brought in by Whitworth and apologized that a steering problem caused him to clip Lassaline made him flip.

The second caution occurred at lap 6 when a rear tire flew off the 12 car of Mike Skinner and nearly landed in the truck bed of Dan Hundt (31).

At lap 17 Cole (129) surrendered the lead with a mechanical problem putting Steve Book (64) out front.  (Earlier in the night Book had left the second heat race to deal with some troubles under the hood although he did return and finished that heat five laps off the pace.)

The race stayed green at lap 35 when a handful of contenders connected on the back stretch.  Stan Cook and his crew took a baseball bat to the 74 to try to get it in shape to return to the race, which it did at lap 48. The "Lightning McQueen" car of Jacob Orr overheated although it was hard to tell because that vehicle's tongue is always hanging out.  

Rough luck for Steve Arrand at lap 64. He lost his 4th place position with a spin.  At the same time, Steve Lovie (141) took advantage of the slowed traffic and got back on the lead lap but it didn't last long.  A similar situation cost Derek McCullough (38) his second place position a few laps later. He finished 4th.

The track was red-flagged at lap 84 as Josh Lusicer (99) spun on turn one and lost power.  Whitworth gave him a push off to the pits where the car was given a much needed drink and time to cool off. A couple of laps later lots of smoke from Carl Geiger whose 18 car smoked and spun on turn one.  The 18 sat facing traffic, out of harm's way, for the rest of the race.

Steve Arrand's night came to an end at lap 120 when Adam Deauvall (19) spun and Arrand had nowhere to go but into the 19.

With Book dominating and lapping the traffic on the track, the race was on for second spot.  #2 heat winner Ed Jeffrey maintained second until Norm Schneckenburger, driving Barry Watson's car, took it over with less than 10 laps to go before giving it back again.

The win was Steve Book's second feature victory of the season.  Jeffrey landed second, Schneckenburger third, Derek McCullough fourth and Piet Blaauboer II in fifth.

 

Some contenders were taken out before the feature race.

In the first heat, the 409 of Kevin Casson left at lap 5, spewing a bonfire's worth of smoke.  Jim Toffliemeyer's (125) left front flat took him out at lap 19.  In all, a dozen drivers didn't finish the first heat which was won by Richard Ainsworth.  It was Ainsworth's first trip to Victory Lane in 15 years of racing and announcer Jamie Maudsley said Ainsworth was "smiling like a mule with a mouthful of thistles!"

At lap 8 the second heat race had to be red-flagged when Scott Cottenden's car struck the back wall and flipped onto its lid.  Cottenden crawled out and waved to show he was okay. (That was Whitworth's first call to action of the night.)  Ed Jeffrey took the win.

Another entertaining round of Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars saw The Red Baron (Chris O'Neill) make his way to Victory Lane with a crumpled hood and spewing smoke!

ACT CASTROL - 2e victoire pour Karl Allard

Série ACT-Castrol Edge au circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway

 

KARL ALLARD L’EMPORTE DE JUSTESSE….

 

Karl Allard a remporté sa deuxième victoire consécutive, samedi soir, au circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway lors d’une épreuve de 100 tours écourtée à 96, ou plus précisément lors d’un marathon de drapeaux jaunes, soit 16 au total dans cette quatrième manche de la série ACT-Castrol Edge.

 

Allard est tombé en panne sèche en franchissant la ligne d’arrivée. C’est donc dire que si la pluie n’était pas venue à sa rescousse, il y a fort à parier que Patrick Laperle aurait été en mesure de visiter le cercle des vainqueurs. Pour sa part, Donald Theetge a terminé en troisième place et il a du travailler sans relâche pour obtenir cette position. Ce sont les seuls résultats connus, car les officiels de l’ACT devront procéder à une vérification complète.

 

Allard qui était parti de la 19e place, a du remonter tout le peloton après une visite à son puits en début de course. En plus de la pluie qui a retardé considérablement ce programme, plusieurs pilotes ont été victimes de dérapages causant ainsi ces nombreux ralentissements de cette course qui ne passera certainement pas à l’histoire avec une durée de deux heures, 20 minutes.

 

Note décevante également, malgré une réponse affirmative, l’Ontarien Jonathan Urlin brillait par son absence. Il y avait tout de même 29 voitures au départ. Un accident impliquant cinq pilotes (Leclerc, Hamel, Lauzier, S.Descoste et Marco Savoie) est survenu au tiers de l’épreuve, mais seulement de la tôle froissée.

 

En début de soirée, Stéphane Descoste, Yvon Bédard dont le moteur a rendu l’âme en finale, Donald Theetge et Jean-François Déry avaient remporté les épreuves de qualification alors que la course de consolation a été enlevée de l’horaire en raison du mauvais temps.

 

Cette soirée qui s’est avérée un cauchemar pour tout le monde, n’a pas épargné les pilotes des classes locales qui ont du sacrifier la deuxième finale à l’horaire qui sera reprise le 22 août prochain. Les gagnants de la première ont été Claude Laflamme (Kamikaze) et Sylvain Carrier (Sport Compacte).

 

La cinquième manche de la série ACT-Castrol Edge aura lieu à l’Autodrome Montmagny, le 3 juillet prochain. Il s’agira alors du Montmagny 250, épreuve remportée par Patrick Laperle en 2009. En ce qui concerne le circuit Ste-Croix /Riverside Speedway, mentionnons d’il sera le théâtre d’un premier Festival Country  Rétro mettant en vedette plusieurs artistes dont Maxim Farago, le week-end prochain. En même temps, on tiendra une exposition de voitures antiques.

ACT CASTROL - Karl Allard Wins Second In a Row at Riverside

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                             ACT – 061910

Ste-Croix, QC – St-Felicien’s Karl Allard claims his second Série ACT Castrol Edge win in a row in the Riverside 100 at Riverside Speedway in St-Croix, QC. Allard started in the 19th position and worked his way to the front after having to pit under yellow for minor repairs in the early stages on the event. Allard took the lead from Patrick Laperle who would hold on for second followed by Donald Theetge in third.

 

The race was slowed by 16 cautions and took just over 2 hours and 20 minutes. The remainder of the results remain unofficial and will be announced following a scoring recheck.

Allard already qualified for the second annual ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 18 with his win at Autodrome Chaudiere last Saturday, June 12.

The Série ACT Castrol will be back in action on Saturday, July 3 for a 250 lap event at Autodrome Montmagny in Montmagny, QC.

Delaware Speedway hosts Maple City Tire 100.

THE MAPLE CITY TIRE 100 DELAWARE SPEEDWAY!

June 14, 2010 (London, Ontario) Delaware Speedway is getting an early jump on Canada Day celebrations with the Maple City Tire 100, Friday June 25th.

 

The night's action will offer twin, green-flag 50-lap NASCAR Late Model races, offering fans an extra helping of Late Model action and giving drivers another opportunity to accumulate points in the NASCAR Whelen All- American Series.

Maple City Tire's owner/operators, Gord and Doug Box, purchased the 25 year old business 9 months ago.  The brothers are long-time race fans and on Friday nights you'll find Gord in the pits at Delaware helping his son Matt, driver of the #27 NASCAR Late Model.  Gord enjoys being hands-on.  "Matt's been driving the number 27 for the past four years. I spot for him. We love it when the fans come down after the race, meet Matt and see the car."

Gord says his brother Doug will get in on the fun on the 25th as well.  "Doug will be handing out trophies to the Late Model winners and doing a T-shirt and cooler bag toss to the fans before the feature races."

FW: Revstar a le plaisir d'accueillir un nouveau pilote

Jean-Nicolas Gareau de St-Zotique vient de faire l'acquisition d'un bolide STR pour se joindre au championnat de la série Revstar ABF

 

Âgé de 22 ans, le jeune pilote a déjà compétitionné en VTT sur le Dirt et sur la glace, mais il a toujours été attiré davantage par le Stock-Car, une discipline qu'il croyait cependant inabordable.

 

Depuis le lancement de la série Revstar, il était intrigué par ces bolides, mais il voulait voir comment cette nouvelle série allait se développer et s'implanter au Québec avant de s'y intéresser. Maintenant il est rassuré et il constate que la série Revstar a vraiment pris sa place dans le monde du Stock Car et que ce championnat est en bonne santé et hautement compétitif.

D'ailleurs, lorsque Revstar avait lancé son concours "Gagnez une Ride" Jean-Nicolas s'était empressé de s'inscrire dans l'espoir de pouvoir essayer un des ces bolides, malheureusement il n'a pas remporté le concours, mais son désir de piloter un bolide Revstar était toujours aussi présent.

Récemment, Jean-Nicolas a accompagné son ami, le pilote recru Gabriel Richer lors d'un programme de course. Voyant tout le plaisir que son ami éprouvait au volant d'un Revstar, Jean-Nicolas était plus que jamais convaincu qu'il devait en faire l'essai. Après quelques démarches auprès des dirigeants de la série, Jean-Nicolas obtient un volant pour participer à son premier week-end de course le 30 mai dernier à Conrwall sur la piste de terre battue qui est située à proximité de chez lui. Dès le début, Jean-Nicolas s'adapte rapidement, on note une progression à chacune de ses sorties en piste. Lors de la finale, il avait réussi  à hausser le rythme pour se maintenir dans le milieu du peloton. Après cette expérience très concluante, le jeune pilote avait définitivement la piqûre !

Plus abordable qu'il le croyait, Revstar représente pour lui une opportunité unique de pouvoir évoluer en Stock Car, tant sur terre battue que sur les piste d'asphalte.

Jean-Nicolas a maintenant passé sa commande, il recevra son bolide dans quelques semaines. Sa nouvelle acquisition va arborer les couleurs de son commanditaire,  NRJ Environnement routier.

 

Depuis plus de 40 ans, le groupe Environnement Routier NRJ inc. a toujours su s'adapter aux situations et aux exigences du milieu en matière de construction et d'entretien.

En attendant la livraison de son bolide
Le jeune pilotes est anxieux de retourner en piste et pour lui permettre d'acquérir rapidement de l'expérience, la série Revstar mettra à sa disposition un bolide STR pour les deux prochaines épreuves au calendrier, soient celle du 26 juin à St-Félicien et à St-Eustache le 3 juillet, ensuite il sera aux commandes de son propre véhicule.

Pro All Stars Series news: PASS North Unity Raceway preview

PASS Celebrates Fathers Day with a  Unity Triple Header

NAPLES ME (6/16) All  three PASS North racing series are back on track this Sunday June 20   at Unity (ME) Raceway, a favorite stop for the Pro All Stars Series’ drivers and fans.

 

The speedway is a throwback to an earlier time when race tracks were a little rough around the edges. The covered grandstand from a bygone era remains and when drivers stray off the asphalt they can easily find themselves atop a sand bank or in a trackside ditch. But the racing surface, dips, bumps and all, breeds some of the best side by side racing you’ll find anywhere and  hardcore race fans  never miss a PASS appearance

Unity is also a favorite of Johnny Clark’s, which could spell bad news for the rest of the field. Clark has a mini win streak going with victories at White Mountain Motorsports Park and Speedway 660.The defending series champ will be going all out to make it three in a row in his drive for five series titles.

It won’t be a walk in the park for Clark. There’s always plenty of competition when the Pro All Stars come to town. Randy Turner cut his racing teeth at Unity and last season the home town hero toppled the touring regulars, earning his first PASS North race win. He’ll look for two in a row Sunday in the Fathers’ Day 150. Ben Rowe, Adam Bates, Scott Chubbuck, Scott Alexander, Travis Benjamin, Trevor Sanborn, Gary Smith, Cassius Clark and Kelly Moore are all looking for their first win of the young season. Bill Penfold will make his first PASS start in quite some time, and Shane Lane will be making his first PASS appearance of 2010. Quebec’s Alexandre Gingras. Rookie candidate Joey Doiron, Donnie Whitten and Nick Ribbe are all pre-entered.as well.

The excitement doesn’t end with the Father’s Day 150. Both the PASS Sportsman and Mod series are on the card with a 75 lap go for the Sportsman and 40 rounds for the Mods.  In the Sportsman ranks  Clyde Hennessey and defending series champ Carey Martin each have a win under their belt and you can bet that Mike Landry, Dan Mckeage, Shane Tatro and Billy Childs will give that pair all they can handle.

The PASS Mods have run a single race, won by multi-time series champ Chris Staples. Staples put his Super Late Model ride on its’ roof at Unity but he’ll look to heap the shiny side up on his way to victory lane Sunday. Expect a full field of PASS Mod regulars to try and deny Staples.

The NELCAR Legends round out a four division card guaranteed to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Practice goes green at 11:30 AM Sunday and the first heat gets the green at 3:00 PM sharp.
