THE STORY

 

Joey Doiron aims to collect his first career PASS North Series win when the series opens the 2011 season with the PASS 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, April 30. Doiron won the 2010 Rookie of the Year award in the series, a march he started with a career-best finish of fourth in this very race. Doiron started his racing career at Beech Ridge and considers it his home track. Doiron is coming off a DNF at “The Race” at North Wilkesboro Motor Speedway earlier this month after a blown tire ended his day prematurely.

JOEY DOIRON, Driver of the No. 73 JBJ Machine/Dale Shaw Race Cars Chevrolet, On his chances at Beech Ridge this weekend: “It's Beech Ridge, so I'm always gald to go there. Every time we've been there with PASS, we feel like we've been a winning car through practice and even for most of the race. Something always seems to happen to us.

 

“Hopefully, the luck has to turn around after (The Race at North Wilkesboro). To turn it around with a win would be awesome, or even a Top-5 finish. I'd be more than happy to start the season the way I did last year.”

 

On the racing at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway: “You just can't abuse your stuff too early. I really think the key the last couple of years has been whoever can ride around and stay out of trouble and then be able to paint the (inside) line in the last 50 laps of the race. It doesn't matter if you're a half-second faster than everybody else, if you can't pass on the bottom at the end when everybody starts sliding up to the top of the track, you're not going to be very good.

 

“The track is its own animal. A lot of people consider it like Oxford, but I always think we have a chance to win at Beech Ridge, and at Oxford, usually I can't get out of my own way. So I don't know what it is there.”

 

On his goals for his sophomore season: “I definitely think we can win a race this year. We just need some luck. We put ourselves in position to do it a couple of times last year it seemed, but we just couldn't seem to catch a break when we needed it.

 

“If we can get a win, we can build on that. Hopefully, then we'll pick up another one after that. I think if we can run competitively at the tracks where we think we can, the points will take care of themselves.”

 

 

UP NEXT

 

The PASS North Series heads to the second race of the season on the smallest track, the PASS 150 at the quarter-mile Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., on Saturday, May 14... Joey Doiron has never competed in a Super Late Model at Star Speedway, but he post a Top-10 finish with a 9th-place run at the high-banked quarter-mile of White Mountain Motorsports Park last season.

KnN East PR - Blue Ox 100 Up Next For KnN East

First Stand-Alone Race In Series History at RIR

Up next for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East is the Blue Ox 100 at famed Richmond (Va.) International Raceway on Thursday, April 28.

The first two races of the 2011 season have produced two different winners, and there will be plenty of candidates to make it three-for-three when the series heads to 'America's Premier Short Track' this week.

Following strong performances in each of the first two outings this year, the three-car contingent of X Team Racing looks primed to break through sooner rather than later. Coleman Pressley may have a leg up on the field with three previous starts in NASCAR Nationwide Series action at Richmond, highlighted by a best finish of 18th in the April event last year. In his first two starts in the K&N Pro Series East with X Team, the son of longtime NASCAR driver Robert Pressley has finishes of second and fourth.

 

 

Pressley's teammates Matt DiBenedetto and Alex Bowman have been impressive in the season's first two outings as well. DiBenedetto was fifth in the opener at Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway and was the runner-up last time out at South Boston (Va.) Speedway while the rookie of the group, Bowman, finished third and eighth, respectively.

The X Team contingent will undoubtedly have competition from fellow Toyotas driven by Brett Moffitt and Max Gresham. Moffitt, with the two-time defending champion No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing team, has been dominant so far this year as he led flag-to-flag at Greenville Pickens and was cruising toward a second-straight win at South Boston, but was wrecked by a spun lap-down car. Gresham, meanwhile, recovered from a late-race spin in the opener to finish a split-second behind DiBenedetto last week at South Boston. Gresham piloted his Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Camry to a win in last year's race at Iowa Speedway, a track that was built in Richmond's likeness.

While he has yet to record a podium finish in 2011, Darrell Wallace Jr. also figures to be a threat to take the checkered flag at Richmond. Wallace has recorded sixth-place finishes in each of the season's first two races for Revolution Racing, and he'll have an advantage on many of his fellow competitors as he's participating in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown and is allowed to test and practice in advance on the .75-mile circuit.

With a high level of interest in the event, the Blue Ox 100 could very well attract the largest entry list of the 2011 season. There is also a historical angle to it, as this will be the first stand-alone race at Richmond in the series' 25 seasons of competition. The K&N Pro Series East participated in five races in combination with the Nationwide Series at Richmond from 1988-92.

 

Race Notes

Peña a Surprise Points Leader ... After finishing 12th in the final 2010 standings, Sergio Peña may not have entered the current campaign with the expectation of contending for a title, but he's in just that position, albeit after only two races. Peña, from Winchester, Va., crossed the line seventh in the season-opener at Greenville Pickens on April 2, then registered his first career win last time out at South Boston on April 17. He heads to Richmond with a one-tally advantage on Pressley.

Pastrana, Blaney to Attempt Debuts ... A pair of notable up-and-coming stock car drivers hope to make their K&N Pro Series East debut in the Blue Ox 100. Action sports star Travis Pastrana is entered in the No. 99 Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing while Ryan Blaney, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dave Blaney, also hopes to make his first start in the family-owned No. 10. Pastrana finished sixth in January's NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown and was involved in an accident three laps shy of the finish in the K&N Pro Series West opener at Phoenix International Raceway.

Showdown Winner Headed to RIR ... The reigning champion of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, Jason Bowles will attempt to make his first K&N Pro Series East start of 2011 at Richmond. The 2009 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion, Bowles has made spot starts across five different NASCAR national and regional touring series the past two seasons. His only previous K&N Pro Series East start was the 2010 opener at Greenville Pickens.

Busy Weekend for Pursley, Ranger ... A pair of K&N Pro Series drivers will attempt to compete in both the East and West events this week. Current K&N Pro Series West points leader Greg Pursley will attempt to make his K&N Pro Series East debut at Richmond while two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Andrew Ranger hopes to make his East season debut after he started eight races in the series a year ago. They'll both then fly to Utah to compete in the K&N Pro Series West race at Miller Motorsports Park on Saturday. Pursley is also slated to compete in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown in Richmond before departing Friday morning.

Sellers' Return ... Former K&N Pro Series East competitor Peyton Sellers will attempt to make his first start in the series since he won the 2008 season finale at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway. Sellers, from Danville, Va., registered 16 top 10s in 29 East starts from 2006-08.

School Visit ... On Friday, April 16, Wallace and Revolution Racing teammate Michael Cherry visited with automotive program students at Hermitage Technical Center and Highland Springs Technical Center in the greater Richmond area. The drivers shared their background in racing and education, and talked about the many facets of the racing industry.

Tune-In Reminders ... The Blue Ox 100 will be broadcast live on NASCARHomeTracks.com via Speed 51 Radio ... The season-opening Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 from Greenville Pickens will also air on SPEED on Thursday, April 28 at 6 p.m.

 

Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown

The fourth edition of the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown will share the racing card at Richmond International Raceway on Thursday with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. One of the premier charity racing events in the nation, the Showdown benefits the Denny Hamlin Foundation and proceeds from the race will help raise awareness and funding for the specific needs of individuals afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis as well as other programs that support chronically ill children and underprivileged youth.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will have a significant presence in the event. Those who will attempt to pull double-duty that day include: Clay Campbell, Max Gresham, Brandon McReynolds, Travis Pastrana, Greg Pursley, Peyton Sellers and Darrell Wallace Jr. The entry list also includes former K&N Pro Series East drivers Trevor Bayne, Joey Logano and Curtis Markham.

The Hamlin Showdown is a sanctioned NASCAR Whelen All-American Series special event.

 

25 For 25 

The 2011 season is the 25th in series history. From its days as the Busch North Series, to the present-day NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, there are countless moments that have come to define the series. Each race week we will take a look back at those moments and figures that have defined the series. 

Combo Races ... From 1987-200, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East - then known as the Busch North Series - competed in a total of 72 races in combination with the NASCAR Nationwide Series - then known as the Busch Series - at tracks ranging from superspeedways like Daytona International Raceway to road courses like Watkins Glen International. In these races, East drivers competed alongside their Nationwide counterparts for overall position and purse in the race, but for points in respect to their fellow East drivers. During these seasons, an East driver was allowed to count his two best combo race finishes toward his point total for the East championship standings.
Site of this week's Blue Ox 100, Richmond International Raceway played host to five such combo races from 1988-92. Among the K&N Pro Series East contingent that participated in those races, Joe Bessey registered the best finish, 10th, in 1992. Current two-time defending K&N Pro Series East champion car owner Michael Waltrip took the checkered flag for the Nationwide Series in the 1990 race.

Last Time Out: South Boston 150

The second race of the 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season started out like the first; with a postponement due to rain.

Once the sun came out in South Boston, Va., however, the K&N Pro Series East was able to put on a show at South Boston Speedway that saw Revolution Racing's Sergio Peña earn his first career win.

The race was dominated through the first half by one of Peña's teammates - Darrell Wallace Jr. - who earned his first career pole earlier in the day and led the first 73 laps. Brett Moffitt then went door-to-door with Wallace for a couple of circuits before he wrestled the lead away.

Moffitt appeared to be in position to cruise to a third-straight series victory with a full three-second lead on the rest of the field, but Michael Cherry's spun car was in the middle of the groove coming out of Turn 4 on Lap 141 and Moffitt - with no escape route - T-boned him. Peña then inherited the lead and fended off Matt DiBenedetto and Max Gresham for the win.

 

Up Next: East-West Challenge at Iowa

The fifth edition of the K&N Pro Series East-West Challenge at Iowa Speedway is slated for Saturday, May 21 with the Goodyear Tire Dealers of Iowa 175 presented by Tompkins Industries.

It will be a natural transition for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East to go from Richmond International Raceway to Iowa Speedway for the next event, as the later was patterned after the former by the track's designer and owner, Rusty Wallace.

While the set-up of the event doesn't change this year, there are a few differences between the 2011 race and the first four runnings at the Newton, Iowa oval. This year the K&N Pro Series race will be held on Saturday instead of Sunday, and the two development series will be joined at the .875-mile track by the NASCAR Nationwide Series, which will now race on Sunday. Additionally, the K&N Pro Series race has been shortened from 200 to 175 laps.

The first four K&N Pro Series East-West races have produced a different winner, and each time the victor piloted a car representing the East. Three of the four winners - Joey Logano, Kyle Busch and Max Gresham - took the checkered flag in Joe Gibbs Racing cars.

Autodrome Drummond race fans, be patient! Only 20 days left before we can hear the engines roaring around the speedway. On May 14th, we will have a good taste for the next season; one of the marquee events is already attracting a lot of attention.

 

Lors du Racemania 6, Brett Hearn avait démontré tout son talent, lors de l’épreuve de 160 tours, il était parti 20e sur la grille de départ et avait dépassé les voitures une à une pour ainsi remporté la somme de $10,000 remis au vainqueur. Un impressionnant total de 45 modifiés comprenant plusieurs pilotes de l’extérieur, étaient présents. Dale Planck et Pete Bicknell, avait complété le podium suivi de Yan Bussière et David Hébert.

La 7e édition du Racemania comptera sur 2 soirées consécutives d’évènements. La série MrDIRTcar 358-modifié sera la catégorie vedette lors du vendredi 9 septembre avec une finale de 75 tours.  La classe pro-stock aura également une importe manche de la série MrDIRTcar avec 50 tours à compléter. Les sportsmans et STR seront également en action alors qu’ils auront des épreuves de qualifications en vue pour les finales de samedi.

Le lendemain, les gros-blocs seront présents à Drummondville dans le cadre de la série Super DIRTcar. Au menu, une finale excitante de 100 tours comprenant les grandes vedettes américaines contre nos pilotes locaux qui font toujours bonne figure dans ce type de course. Les sportsmans auront une épreuve de 50 tours et les STR auront également leur finale. 

En plus de leur visite lors du Racemania en fin de saison, les gros-blocs auront déjà été en compétition plus tôt dans l’été sur le circuit drummondvillois, avec une finale de 100 tours qui sera présenté le lundi 18 juillet dans le cadre de leur visite annuelle au Québec avec également une épreuve le lendemain à l’Autodrome Granby.

Le Racemania 7 et la visite des gros-blocs le 18 juillet, trois évènements à ajouter à votre calendrier de course pour la saison 2011 !

Brett Hearn showed his great talent and experience last year during Racemania 6, during the 160-lap event, Hearn started 20th on the grid and passed other drivers to finish on top and claimed the $10,000 for the win. A total of 45 modifieds including several invaders had showed up in Drummond. Dale Planck and Pete Bicknell completed the podium followed by locals Yan Bussière and David Hébert.

Two consecutive nights are planned for the 7th edition of Racemania. The MrDIRTcar 358-Modified Series will have the spotlight on Friday, September 9th with a 75-lap feature. The Pro-Stock category will also have an MrDIRTcar race with 50 laps to complete. The Sportsmans and STR will also see some action has the qualification rounds will determine the starting fields for Saturday night finale.

On the following night, the big blocks will be at the track for a Super DIRTcar Series event. On the schedule, a 100-lap race with the great American stars against our local heroes that always delivers great results during these types of races. The Sportsman will have a 50-lap feature with the STR having their feature race.

The Super DIRTcar Series has 2 dates for Drummond in 2011, along with the Racemania at the end of the year; the tour will make a stop on Monday, July 18 for their annual visit in Quebec with a stop schedule at Autodrome Granby the following night.

PASS NORTH season goes green at Beech Ridge Saturday

 

Naples ME (4/25) The 2011 Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North campaign goes green at Scarborough Maine's famed Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday April 30 with all three PASS touring series on track for the first time this season. Every team is tied for the points lead and a good start to the yearl builds momentum for the races to come.

 

The PASS North Super Late Models, Mods, and Sportsman highlight the season opener and its the perfect cure for those off season racing blues.

 

The early entry list includes a few surprises and a number of new names. Tracy Gordon returns to PASS competition in a second entry from the Frahm stables; he'll team up with Matt Frahm in his return to PASS North. Gordon's name appears twice in the PASS North win column. Kirk Thibeau is on the list, as are Ridge regulars David Oliver and Bill Rodgers, a guy that's already proven he can take on the PASS regulars and win.

 

Canada is well represented with Lonnie Sommerville, Shawn Turple and Matt Matheson all on board for the season opener.

 

Bryan Kruczek has stepped up to the super late model ranks and he'll make his PASS debut at Beech Ridge. Mike Landry is a familiar face in the PASS Sportsman series, but he will wheel a super late model Saturday.. Chris Thorne is making an infrequent PASS North appearance and . PASS North rookie Kyle DeSouza will attempt his first Beech Ridge PASS super late model start. .

 

There's several new combinations seeking success in the series. Mike Rowe will return to full time competition with a new combination. Peter Pettit and Steve Perry have partnered to field the full time PASS ride for the Maine legend. Lonnie Sommerville is a familiar name to PASS North fans but he will make his PASS North season debut with Scott and Vicki Mulkern's potent race team; Mulkern himself will take his best shot at a Beech Ridge win, too..

 

Five time series champion Johnny Clark ,Richie Dearborn, 2010 PASS North rookie of the year Joey Doiron, Travis Benjamin, Scott Alexander, Ben Rowe, Ricky Morse , Bill Penfold, Scott Chubbuck and Derek Ramstrom, are just a few of the names on the early entry list and you know that the season opener will attract an overflow field of the fastest full fender racers in the region.

 

Beech Ridge has two pre season practice sessions scheduled.. The track will offer up open test sessions on Thursday and Friday April 28 and 29 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.

 

The PASS Mods, PASS Sportsman, the Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour,  NELCAR Legends, and the Pro Four Modifieds join the PASS North super late models on Saturday's schedule.The first heat race rolls off at 3:00 PM.

Stephen Nasse Wins PASS South Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway

PASS Rookie battles hard with Preston Peltier to earn his first PASS win

 

Hickory NC (4/24) The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South presented by JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Products headed to the famed Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) on Saturday, April 23rd, for the prestigious Easter Bunny super late model showdown, the first PASS National event of the 2011 race season. Florida native Stephen Nasse went to victory lane after a rough and tumble battle with defending PASS South Champion Preston Peltier.

 

44 of the nation's top Super Late Model drivers hit the track to earn their way into the field during qualifying and, it was Preston Peltier claiming the pole with a 14.734-second lap over Justin Wakefield, Bradley McCaskill, Andy Loden and Dean Clattenburg.

 

With the top-20 drivers locked into the field, the remainder of the racers were split into two last-chance races, where the top-three drivers from each race earned their spot in the starting field.

 

In the first last-chance race, yellow fever kept the cars bunched up while big names tried to race their way into the Easter Bunny. With Jody Lavender and Cassius Clark firmly in the first-two positions the battle on the track was for the third and final transfer spot Becca Kasten had it until the white-flag lap but contact with Dylan Kwasniewski sent Kasten went back to fourth and Kwasniewski went on to make the feature.

 

The second last-chance race was a bit calmer with only one yellow flag slowing the field. David O’Dell drove his way to the front and the win, taking the first of the three transfer spots. John Batten and Dillon Oliver, who started the second last-chance race on the front row, crossed the line second and third respectively, also earning their way into the big race.

 

The balance of the field was filled by provisionals to equal a 30-car field.

 

After the top-10 redraw Jay Fogleman (who qualified eighth) and Steve Legendre (who qualified tenth) started on the front row with Justin Wakefield and Blaney occupying row two. Legendre got a great start, taking the lead with Fogleman dropping in second. A few laps later, Wakefield used his bumper to get second from Fogleman with Blaney working his way to third, Nasse fourth and Fogleman back to fifth.

 

The first yellow flag flew at lap nine after contact sent Clattenburg and Roger Lee Newton around in turn two, stacking up the field. Most cars were able to drive off, but many including Gray Gaulding, Batten, Jimmy Weller and Kwasniewski had various levels of damage and had to pit for repairs.

 

Wakefield got a great restart, taking the lead from Legendre. But Nasse was on a mission, moving around Legendre for second and into the lead on lap 12. Legendre moved back up to the second position with Wakefield third, Blaney forth, and Loden up to fifth.

 

While Nasse and Legendre distanced themselves from the field, Loden worked his way up to the third position with Blaney running fourth and Wakefield running fifth at lap 50.

 

PASS fans were treated to side-by-side battles throughout the field as drivers were racing hard for every inch on the track. The hard racing slowed though on lap 68 as the second yellow flew when McCaskill and Colt James got together in turn two. Their contact collected Newton, who had significant damage and had to park it for the night. At the caution, Nasse, Legendre, Blaney, Loden and Peltier rounded out the top five.

 

Legendreclaimed the lead off the restart, sending Nasse back to second at lap 70. The top-five cars, which also included Loden, Peltier and Blaney, all ran nose to tail at the front.

 

The third yellow flew at lap 78 as Kyle Benjamin and Brandon Lynn went around in turn two. Both were able to drive off without any assistance.

 

On the restart Legendre almost had Nasse cleared for the lead but on lap 81 Nasse used the high side to take the lead back. Nasse and Legendre distanced themselves from the rest of the pack with the battle on the track for the next 20 laps happening between Loden, Blaney and Peltier for the third position. Just past lap 100 Peltier moved his way to fourth, then to third. At lap 110 he passed Legendre for second, looking to run down Nasse for the lead. Peltier went high while working around lapped traffic, losing a few spots on the track. That put Legendre back to second with Blaney in third and Peltier to fourth. All three cars battled hard for the second spot until they came up on the lapped car of Lynn. Contact between Blaney and Lynn sent Lynn’s car around on the front stretch, giving Blaney some body damage and costing him several positions on the track.

 

On the restart with less than 30 laps to go Peltier worked his way to second and then put the pressure on Nasse for the lead. The pair got together several times with Peltier prevailing for the top spot. Nasse tried to get back to the front but with 20 laps to go Peltier was able to drive away from the field with Nasse, Fogleman, Legendre and Blaney all giving chase.

 

With just two laps remaining a hard battle behind the leaders brought out the yellow flag as Ben Rowe and Weller made contact in turn four, sending Weller around. At the yellow, Peltier, Nasse, Fogleman, Ben Rowe and Clark were running in the top five.

 

Nasse had his opportunity on the final restart. Peltier and Nasse banged fenders and bumpers and Nasse got to the checkered flag first to earn his first PASS South Super Late Model win.

 

“That was crazy,” said Nasse in victory lane. “I didn’t think there was going to be another caution in the race. I was planning on coming home second. He (Peltier) drove me clean and I really do appreciate that.”

 

Many veterans in the PASS series earn their victories with tire management throughout the race, but Nasse went all out every lap of the event.

 

“I knew with this Crate (motor) car I wasn’t going to use up too much of the rear tires, so I kind of let the dog eat and tried to get as far ahead as I could just in case it went all green.It is amazing. I haven’t been to the winner’s circle in a while. This is a definite pick-me-up. All the crew worked so hard to get this win.”

 

Peltier did everything he could to win the race, but came up one position short, frustrating the series veteran. “This thing was just a little slow on restarts,” said Peltier. “It took a few laps for it to get going. I did everything but wreck him. To be honest with you, I am getting tired of finishing second. That is the third one this year. It is time for a win.”

 

Fogleman, who made the move to the series a few years back and has achieved success in PASS South competition since, crossed the line third. “I am glad everything went good for the fans,” said Fogleman. “I knew as soon as I talked to these guys and what they were doing with this series that I made the right decision (to race PASS), and I just hoped everyone else would get on board. It looks like all the real racers are coming this way.”

 

Blaney and Ben Rowe rounded out the top five.

 

PASS South presented by JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Products will be back in action at South Boston Speedway (VA) on Saturday, May 7th. Cody Hodgson of Escalon, Calif., will compete alongside the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series when the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East heads to the Blue Ox 100 at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Va., on Thursday, April 28. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate sits 12th overall in the K&N Pro Series East standings as the series heads to its first standalone Richmond event in history – on the undercard of a Saturday night Cup race at the .75-mile track. Better yet, Hodgson is fifth in the standings among a field of 24 rookies who have made a start in the series already this season.

CODY HODGSON, Driver of the No. 03 Ocala Gran Prix Chevrolet, On racing at Richmond International Raceway for the first time: “I'm definitely excited about it. I've never been to one of these big events like this. I'm sure there will be a lot more people, a lot more fans. Every driver out there will be trying to show that they're the next greatest thing. It should be a lot of fun.

 

“I really need to focus on qualifying better, but with a big track like this it's not going to be as much about where you start at the beginning of the race. The Richmond track is obviously bigger and will be faster, but the actual racing will be 'slower.' I think you'll have more time to work around other cars if you have to.”

 

On preparing to race at a track you've never raced on before: It's a whole new game for me. I'm excited about it. Everything in the pits, I'm sure, will feel bigger and more exciting. The racing will be a lot different from what we've seen already, too, (at Greenville and South Boston). There's just one day of practice, with the two one-hour sessons, so I'm going to need to be a little cautious with the speeds and everything at first. That first session, it will be all about going out and getting a good feel for the speed.

 

On the importance of better qualifying efforts: “As far as the racing and everything, I've been feeling really good. I've been able to pass guys. But I feel like right now I really need to focus on qualifying better. A couple of guys in the series are really good at that, and it's helping them every week.

 

“I feel like I've passed a ton of cars, and I've learned a lot about how to race with people around me in this series. What I really need to learn now is how to get more out of the car in qualifying, even if maybe there's not a lot there to get. We've been able to make our car really good on the long runs, but I just haven't been able to be up in the top spots (after qualifying) to ride around with those top guys and show them what we've got at the end. We've had to race so hard just to get there, that we haven't had a lot left at the end of races to be able to really race with the leaders.”

ACT PR - Bassett, Five-Star, Racing Electronics and Race Basics Continue ACT Contingency Programs in 2011

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour will continue contingency programs from Bassett Race Wheels, Five-Star Race Car Bodies, Racing Electronics and Race Basics Chassis for the 2011 season. These four companies provide product certificates for each event on the ACT Late Model Tour and the Série Castrol Edge, as well as contribute to the yearly point funds.

 

Five-Star Race Car Bodies of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin has been working with ACT the longest of the four companies. They started their program with ACT in 1991 and they’ve signed on through the 2013 season. Along with certificates for body parts for each ACT event they also raffle off a certificate for a full body at the annual Banquet of Champions held each January.

Concord, North Carolina’s Racing Electronics has been a part of the ACT contingency program since 1992. Not only do they supply certificates at each ACT event, they are also the official radio supplier for the ACT Tour, Série Castrol Edge, and Thunder Road. They supply many of the ACT Late Model teams with their radio needs and attend several events each season with technical support

Bassett Race Wheels of Burlington, Wisconsin has signed on for their 13th season with ACT. For over 40 years the company has been building the strongest, lightest, and truest steel racing wheels. Drivers finishing in the runner-up position at each event in 2011 will receive certificates for Bassett wheels.

“The American Canadian Tour and Série Castrol Edge are outstanding showcases for our products and we wish to thank ACT racers for making Bassett the most popular wheel in the series,” said Brian Gill, Director of Marketing for Bassett Racing Wheel.

Race Basics Chassis and Crazy Horse Racing of South Paris, Maine supply chassis to many ACT teams as well as local racers around the region. As a way of paying back the over 40 Late Model teams they support, they have formed a program with ACT for certificates for any Race Basic Chassis that finishes in the top three for an ACT event and also any chassis finishing in the tenth position for 2011.

“Crazy Horse Racing/Race Basics Chassis is excited to participate with the ACT US and Série ACT Castrol 2011 contingency program. This is a great way for us to promote our business and the love of the sport,” said co-owner of Crazy Horse Racing/Race Basics Chassis Judy Green.

The American Canadian Tour will be back in action with their second event of the 2011 season on Sunday, May 1 for the 13th Annual Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont. Post time is 1:00pm.

TMR PR - Jared Marks Hopes For Hopping Performance At Toledo Speedway

TOLEDO, Ohio (April 21, 2011) - - It’s only fitting with the VR-12 / Easter Bunny 100 presented by Jegs.com set for this Saturday night at Toledo Speedway that rising star Jared Marks is looking for a hopping performance when the JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour takes the green flag in their season opener at the historic half-mile oval.

 

After strapping in his No. 5 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports / Victory Water Dodge Charger early in the season at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway, the youngster has shifted his attention towards school. Now, with his sophomore season dwindling down, Marks can slowly begin to trade his school books in for steering wheels.

 

The Tony Marks Racing (TMR) development driver is not only looking for a satisfying performance in an event that is supported by his sponsor, VR-12, but the 16-year old is looking to find his niche at a track that he can consider his hometown place.

 

“It’s an important weekend for us,” said Marks, who will return to Toledo Speedway on May 15 to compete in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race. “I think our No. 5 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports / Victory Water Dodge Charger will be fast. No doubt that the race will go by quick, so I don’t have a lot of time to waste. But, to have a shot to win, you have to be around in the end. So, hopefully we’ll keep our fenders clean and make our mark when it counts.”

 

He continued, “I appreciate VR-12 stepping up their commitments in racing and sponsoring the race Saturday night. It’s an honor to carry their colors and I hope we can thank them a little more with a strong finish.”

 

The avid late model competitor also explained how he will utilize this weekend’s race as a test session as well.

 

“The more laps I can gain at Toledo, it will only help me with the ARCA car next month,” he explained. “Our goal and focus is to go out there this weekend and win, but it’s also our intentions to learn some stuff that could aid us on the ARCA side in a couple of weeks. Toledo is a tough track; it’s no cookie-cutter for sure. The more laps the merrier as far as I’m concerned.”

 

Tony Marks, owner of Tony Marks Racing (TMR) offered his thoughts on having his son represent VR-12 in their first nationally sponsor Late Model event. “VR-12 has become an instrumental part of Tony Marks Racing.
