Une lithographie commémorative de Gilles Villeneuve, 30 ans après sa disparition

Montréal (Québec), le 5 mai 2012.- Trente années après sa disparition, l’image de Gilles Villeneuve reste encore présente dans tous les esprits. Le petit gars de Berthierville qui n’avait peur de rien, qui avait déjà planifié en détail sa montée vers la F1 lors de sa première présence en piste, à St-Eustache en avril 1973, et qui a marqué les esprits des centaines de millions de personnes qui l’ont vu se battre en piste.

 

Le Musée Gilles-Villeneuve a voulu commémorer l’évènement en produisant une lithographie qui représente quelques grands moments de la carrière de notre Gilles : au volant de sa Ferrari F1, en compagnie d’Enzo Ferrari, qui le considérait comme son fils, et lors de sa première victoire en Grand Prix, à Montréal en 1978. On y voit aussi le nom Labatt, un commanditaire si important lors de ses débuts, et le « Salut Gilles » repris encore aujourd’hui dans toutes les langues lors de Grand Prix à travers le monde.

Prévente forfaits week-end pour le premier Grand Prix de la saison 2012


Les billets pour l’édition 2012 du Grand Prix ICAR Lucas Oil de Mirabel présenté par Budweiser sont maintenant disponibles en ligne au www.circuiticar.com

Mirabel, Québec, le 4 mai 2012 – Les billets pour la cinquième édition du Grand Prix ICAR Lucas Oil de Mirabel présenté par Budweiser, qui se tiendra du vendredi 1er juin au dimanche 3 juin 2012, sont maintenant disponibles en tout temps en prévente sur le site Internet du complexe motorisé ICAR au www.circuiticar.com, ou en composant le 514-955-4227 du lundi au vendredi de 9 heures à 17 heures. Les amateurs québécois auront l’occasion de voir en piste les étoiles de la série NASCAR de Canadian Tire qui disputeront pour l’occasion la deuxième des 12 étapes de leur calendrier 2012, la première de leurs trois épreuves en sol québécois. Les organisateurs du Grand Prix sont heureux d’annoncer que cette promotion prévente sur les forfaits du week-end pour les billets dans les tribunes et ceux d’admission générale sera en vigueur sur leur site à compter de vendredi soir, 4 mai 2012.


Quatre autres séries sont à l’affiche le week-end du Grand Prix ICAR Lucas Oil : le Sportsman ICAR Challenge (SIC), la série canadienne Super Production Challenge (SPC), la série GT Performance Racing de la Fédération du sport automobile du Québec ainsi que la Série Cup Lites.
Les billets-forfaits week-end, qui sont disponibles en prévente pour la journée du samedi 2 juin et celle du dimanche 3 juin, coûteront 30 $ chacun pour l’admission; une économie de 10 $ sur chaque forfait. Les amateurs désireux d’acheter leurs billets sont invités à commander sans tarder, car la promotion se termine le mercredi 30 mai 2012, et les places dans les tribunes sont limitées. Le Grand Prix ICAR Lucas Oil de Mirabel lance la saison des grands prix au Québec et pour les amateurs d’émotions fortes, c’est l’occasion idéale de renouer avec la compétition de course automobile de haut niveau à un prix abordable.
Entrée libre au Grand Prix le vendredi 1er juin
Fidèle à son habitude, le Grand Prix ICAR de Mirabel tiendra sa journée portes ouvertes le vendredi 1er juin afin de permettre aux amateurs de découvrir le circuit et ses installations, en plus de visiter les paddocks pour y rencontrer leurs pilotes favoris et leurs équipiers.
Outre les forfaits week-end en prévente jusqu’au 30 mai et ceux qui sont disponibles à la porte, d’autres options sont offertes aux amateurs qui désirent se procurer des billets pour assister à ce premier week-end de courses d’envergure de la saison 2012. Les billets d’admission générale pour la journée du samedi 2 juin seront en vente au coût de 25 $ chacun et de 35 $ pour la journée du dimanche.
Forfaits corporatifs
Le Grand Prix ICAR de Mirabel est une occasion unique pour les entreprises et les amateurs de s’offrir un grand prix de luxe en forfaits corporatifs à un coût abordable. Deux formules de groupe, en loges privées ou passes individuelles dans une loge de groupe sont disponibles. 
Les Suites privilèges, qui donnent accès à la ligne des stands et aux garages en tout temps, sont au coeur de l’action avec vue sur l’action dans les puits et la ligne de départ-arrivée, un accès aux stationnements des loges ainsi qu’un service de navette en plus d’une foule d’autres privilèges. Un service d’hospitalité et restauration privée (coûts non compris) est également disponible.

Helliwell Claims First ACT Win, Unofficially Takes Over Point Lead

West Haven, VT – Wayne Helliwell Jr. of Dover, NH dominated the second half of The Fox 101.5 Spring Green 112 on the way to his first ever American Canadian Tour victory on Sunday May 6, 2012 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Helliwell took over the lead on lap 58 and had to fend off a late race attack from Hudson, NH’s Joey Polwarczyk Jr. to take the checkers.  Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, ME stormed from the 20th starting position to take over third, Ray Parent and Randy Potter completed the top five.

 

The race began with weekly competitor Craig Bushey leading the first lap after a +5 in the ACT plus minus system earned him the second starting position.  Multi-time Oxford Plains Speedway Champion Ricky Rolfe took over for the next 26 laps before the lead was briefly wrestled away by former Thunder Road Champion Nick Sweet.  Sweet only held on to the lead for two laps before Groveton’s Randy Potter took over the point. 

Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. stormed from mid-pack to take the lead away from Potter on lap 50, only to have it taken away for good by Helliwell on lap 58.  Helliwell started from the third position, but faded as far back as ninth before charging through the field in the second half.  Helliwell had to endure a lap 98 restart and a no holds barred assault from Polewarczyk that put the large opening day crowd on its feet to claim his first ACT win and unofficially strip Williston’s Brian Hoar of the point lead.

Hyde Park’s Eric Williams climbed from 22nd on the starting grid to finish sixth, followed by Rolfe, Quinny Welch, Brent Dragon, and Luke Hinkley completing the top ten. 

The race was slowed by seven cautions, the first of which was a multi-car wreck when Glen Luce and Jamie Fisher spun in front of the field with no laps complete.  The race was completed in 1:13:26, and 19 cars finished on the lead lap.  All 34 ACT Late Models in attendance started the feature event. 

Wayne Helliwell Jr. earned himself an invite to the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 22, 2012 with his win in the Spring Green 112. He joins Brian Hoar as the first two Invitational invitees to date. 

The American Canadian Tour has next weekend off, but will be back in action at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford Maine on May 20, 2012 for the Oxford 150.

Foley holds off Stone for Airborne win

Airborne Speedway recap Sat May 5, 2012

South Plattsburgh – George Foley of Vermontville beat Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT to the finish line by a car-length to win the DIRTcar Modified 30-lap main event on his sponsor’s night (Loreman’s Screen Printing) at Airborne Speedway Saturday.

 

Foley, driving the Shamrock Bar & Grill/Pulsifer Logging Ford-powered No. 34, took the lead for keeps on lap 2, but Stone stayed close for the first 27 laps. No sooner had Foley opened up some daylight on Stone and third-place Pat McGrail then the yellow came out on lap 29.

 

That set up a green-white-checkers finish, but Stone couldn’t make a winning pass. McGrail finished third, three car-lengths ahead of Greg Atkins-4th and Maxime Viens-5th. It was the second straight second-place finish for Stone.

 

Kris Vernold finished sixth. Aaron Bartemy, from 14th on the grid, was seventh. Positions 8-10 went to Adam Bartemy, Craig Reyell and Pierre Berthiaume. Foley, Stone and Richard Tisseur won the Modified heats. Last week’s winner Patrick Dupree had transmission problems and drove a back-up car to finish 14th.

 

“This is a new car,” Foley said. “We had some tire problems the first week, but today everything worked out. We also changed springs and the car was fast. I feel comfortable racing with Todd (Stone), he’s a real clean driver.  I would have been glad to go without the last caution, but that’s racing.”

 

Jamy Begor of Mooers, who like Foley had to survive a green-white-checkers restart, held off Robin Wood to win the Limited Late Model feature. Begor started on the pole and wired the field. Bucko Branham got up for third after a lengthy battle with Fred Lagoy, who wound up in fifth - a car-length behind Shawn Duquette in fourth.

 

Kevin Boutin of Fairfax, VT won the Renegade feature. It was the first time the defending champion ever scored back-to-back wins at Airborne. Midway through the 25-lap race, runner-up Jason McClatchie of Plattsburgh ran at Boutin’s door for six laps before yielding the lead. Joe Warren, Robbie Favreau and Robert Gordon completed the top five.

 

Nick Heywood of Plattsburgh won the Sportsman Modified feature for the second week in a row. Lonnie Rivers and Sebastien Fournier were next in line. Erick Sayles of Lake Placid, Michael Whalen and Josh LaPorte finished 1-2-3 in Busch Bomber Mini Modified feature.

 

Airborne hosts the first event of the six-race USA/Canada Masters Limited Late Model Series Saturday, May 12. Over a dozen teams from Autodrome St-Eustache are expected.

PASS North: Joey Doiron breaks through at Beech Ridge

Scarborough ME (5/5) Berwick Maine’s Joey Doiron charged to the lead on lap 87 of Saturday’s PASS North Southern Maine Motors.com 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway  to earn a convincing victory, the first for the series’ 2010 Rookie of the Year. Lonnie Sommerville raced home in second followed by Derek Ramstrom, Cassius Clark and DJ Shaw. Doiron came from tenth on the grid and drove under Sommerville and race leader Shaw for a lead he would never relinquish.

 

Doiron’s best previous PASS North finish - a fourth - came in this event one year ago.

Doiron considers Beech Ridge his home track, and his victory comes after two seasons of trying to carry the PASS feature checkers.  Despite his Rookie of the Year title in 2010, Doiron has suffered through more than his share of mechanical issues and on track incidents.The family– focused race teams’ perseverance paid off Saturday as the young man drove off to the most convincing win that PASS fans have witnessed in recent memory.

The season opener proved to be a day for the young guns to shine. Aaron Ricker, Shaw and Sommerville shared the lead over the first two thirds of the race and 2011 Co-Rookie of the Year Kyle DeSouza, Ramstrom, and Brad Babb spent most of the day contending for the top spot.  Cassius Clark (4th) and Gary Smith (8th) both came from the back of the 32 car field and they were the only two in the top ten that have more than a few years experience on the tour’s tracks.

2011 race winner and defending series champion Johnny Clark had a race he’d rather forget, as did Ben and Mike Rowe. Clark qualified through the consolation rounds and started nineteenth. Clark picked up eight spots by lap 21 but he was sliding back 20 laps later and it was clear that there were problems with the 54. A trip to the pits under caution for a fix seemed to do the trick and he was back in the top five by lap 102. But the same driveline problem resurfaced, shutting off Clark’s ride intermittently and sending him sideways on more than one occasion. Only experience and determination allowed him to salvage a 16th place finish. Ben Rowe never seemed to have a handle on the speedway, despite his teams’ best efforts. Rowe had to settle for 22nd at the checkers. Mike Rowe had a race similar to his sons’ and the best the legend could muster was 18th.

The top eight all completed 150 green flag laps in just over an hour. The race was slowed by six caution periods, and Doiron’s late race dominance led to a 6.942 margin of victory. Fast lap was set by DJ Shaw (15.316/78.271). Qualifying wins went to Ricker, Hubbard and Shaw. Johnny Clark and Donnie Whitten prevailed in the consolation rounds.

The PASS Mod field had its’ strongest opening day showing ever and it was an all Shaw show from green to checker. Andy Shaw sat on the pole with Dale Shaw outside, and the pair swapped the lead on several occasions before the defending race and series champion prevailed. Dale chased Andy to the checkers and Dana Reed raced home third with Mark Lundblad Jr. and Travis Buzzell fourth and fifth. Scott Alexander and Andy Shaw claimed their heat races.

The PASS Sportsman suffered from the dreaded yellow fever early in their 75 lap feature. Five of the seven caution flags flew in the first 30 laps but once the field hit their stride the racing was intense. Carey Martin worked his way by Clyde Hennessey on a lap 28 restart and never gave up the lead, despite Craig Smith’s late race charge. Mike Clark made his trip from Littleton New Hampshire worthwhile with a solid third; Clyde Hennessey and Scott Dorr settled for fourth and fifth. Jarrod Ledger and Nate Leavitt earned the front row starting spots in their qualifiers.

The PASS Super Late Models and Mods are in action Saturday May 12th when the bull ring, Epping New Hampshire’s Star Speedway, hosts the two series. Race Time is 4:30 PM. The PASS Sportsman take a break until Sunday June 3rd when all three PASS North touring divisions visit Riverside Speedway in Groveton New Hampshire.

Champion en titre de la série ACT-Castrol, Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu a démontré qu’il était prêt à entreprendre la défense de celui-ci, dimanche après-midi à la piste Thunder Road de Barre au Vermont. Cette épreuve, le Merchants Bank 150 a été remportée par nul autre que Brian Hoar, le multiple champion du tour américain de l’ACT alors que Laperle a pris place sur la troisième marche du podium.

Cette course a nécessité six drapeaux jaunes dont un pour un carambolage au 70e passage impliquant neuf voitures dont celles de Brent Dragon, Chris Michaud, Ben Rowe, Glen Luce et Randy Potter. Le poste de commande a changé en neuf occasions parmi six pilotes.
Lors de sa qualification, Laperle avait pris le départ de la troisième place pour terminer quatrième alors que dans le Merchants Bank 150, il est parti de la 19e position pour remonter en troisième dans le dernier tiers.
Laperle a été plus chanceux que ses compatriotes Stéphane et Daniel Descostes ainsi que le nouveau venu Réjean Bissonnette qui n’ont pu se qualifier.
Dimanche prochain, le tour américain disputera sa troisième épreuve de la saison à la piste Devil’s Bowl au Vermont alors que Laperle entreprendra la défense de sa couronne ACT-Castrol à l’Autodrome Montmagny, le samedi 26 mai.

RUTLAND, VT – Rutland’s Rock Station, 101.5 “The Fox” will become a major player at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT in 2012.  The Fox will be the presenting sponsor of the season-opening “101.5 The Fox Spring Green” stock car racing event on Sunday, May 6, and has signed on for the “101.5 The Fox Vintage Racing Festival” as part of the inaugural C.J. Richards Memorial Weekend on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22.


Race fans will be treated to a live remote broadcast by 101.5 The Fox during the first-ever Downtown Rutland stock car show for Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday morning, May 5.  The 101.5 The Fox Spring Green on Sunday, May 6 features a 112-lap race for the American-Canadian Tour Late Models, along with championship openers for the Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, Renegades, and Bombers in the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
The 101.5 The Fox Vintage Racing Festival will feature race cars of all types from years gone by during the inaugural C.J. Richards Memorial Weekend in July.  The three-day event features NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing at Carrara Masonry & Concrete Night on Friday, July 20, a car show for vintage race cars and hot rods on Saturday, July 21, and on-track vintage racing and car show awards on Sunday, July 22.
“We’re thrilled here at The Fox to be a major part of the racing action at Devil’s Bowl this year,” said General Manager John Gales.  “Rocking and racing go hand in hand and our thousands of listeners are going to love checking out the action at Devil’s Bowl this summer.  Plus, The Fox is going to love giving away tickets all summer long as well.”
The 101.5 The Fox Spring Green opens Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s 46th racing season on Sunday, May 6.  Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 1:30pm with green flag racing beginning at 2:00pm.  General admission is $18 for adults, 15 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under.  Discount season passes are also available.

Brian Hoar Claims Elusive ACT Merchants Bank 150

Barre, VT – Eight-time and defending ACT Champion Brian Hoar, of Williston VT, rode a hot streak on his way to his second win in a row on the ACT Tour in the Merchants Bank 150 on Sunday, April 29 at Thunder Road.  Hoar fought off former Lee USA Champion Wayne Helliwell Jr, of Dover NH, and two-time Serie ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle of St. Denis, QC for his first ever Merchants Bank 150 win. 

Hoar started from the second position, after a +6 plus minus out of his heat, and stole the lead from Thunder Road defending Champion Dave Pembroke on lap 21. Hoar paced the field for 19 laps only to lose the lead to seven-time ACT Champion Jean Paul Cyr on lap 40.  Cyr took the lead and looked unstoppable for 79 laps, slicing and dicing through lap traffic, until lap 109 caution in which he pitted after the other leaders to take tires.  Helliwell Jr, and two-time Merchants Bank 150 Champ Nick Sweet battled it out before Sweet headed down pit road on a lap 116 caution, leaving Hoar, Laperle, and Helliwell to fight for the win. 
Helliwell gave everything he had trying to pick up his first ACT tour win, nose to tail between two former ACT champs for the last 10 laps.  Hoar survived an assault of moves from Helliwell, even recovering from being sideways out of turn four with two laps to go.  Laperle stormed from the 19th starting position, but had to turn his focus on a late race charge for third from John Donahue of Graniteville, VT who finished fourth.  Jean Paul Cyr rebounded from his tire stop to round out the top five.
The race was completed in 1:13:55 but was slowed by 6 cautions and a red flag for a multi-car wreck on lap 70.  Many cars were involved including 2011 ACT Rookie of the Year Ben Ashline, multi-time Thunder Road Champion Cris Michaud, Ben Rowe, Randy Potter, Glen Luce, Cody Blake, Quinny Welch, Jamie Aube, and Brent Dragon. The multi-car incident started with Michaud bouncing off the widowmaker and collecting the remainder of the group at the entrance of pit road.
Hoar had already qualified for the Bond Auto ACT Invitational on Saturday, September 22 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, with his win in the season opener at Lee USA Speedway two weeks ago. 47 ACT Late models attempted to qualify for the 30 car field.  23 cars finished on the lead lap. 
Blair Bassett of Worcester, VT claimed an emotional first ever Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman win, fending off Scott Coburn, Chris Pelkey, 2011 Rookie of the Year Kyle Pembroke, and Joe Steffen.  Rounding out the top ten was Mike Martin, Dylan Payea, George May, Josh Demers, and Matt Potter. 
All-time Street Stock win leader Tommy Thunder added another to the list picking up his 23rd win in dominating fashion in the Allen Lumber Street Stock division.  He was chased to the line by Garry Bashaw, Bunker Hodgdon, Jason Kenison, and Daniel Lathrop.  Completing the top ten was Dean Switser, Ben Belanger, Nick Pilotte, David Whitcomb, and Danny Doyle. 
Thunder Road is off until Memorial Day for the 50th RV Mekkelsen Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 27.  The American Canadian Tour Late Models head to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT for  101.5 The Fox Spring Green 112 next Sunday, May 6 with a 2pm post time.

Buescher Earns Fourth Career Menards Pole Award, Second at Salem

(SALEM, Ind.) - Chris Buescher drove to the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell in just his second trip to Salem Speedway three seasons ago, and repeated that feat today in preparation for tomorrow's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200.

Buescher, driving the familiar No. 17 Ford of Roulo Brothers Racing, completed his qualifying lap in 17.06 seconds (117.116 mph) to edge Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott for the top spot. The 200-lap, 111-mile race will start at 2:15 p.m., with live timing and scoring coverage and live audio coverage available at ARCARacing.com.

Emily Headley, an Ansell territory manager from Cincinnati, presented the award to Buescher in Salem Speedway's infield.

The pole award was Buescher's fourth in 37 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards events since 2009, and his first since July 2010 at Mansfield Motorsports Park. Buescher's pole speed ended up the fastest for ARCA at Salem since Justin Lofton earned the pole at 117.981 mph in April 2009.

After a cool morning and threats of sprinkling rain, the sun appeared over Salem Speedway for the afternoon qualifying session, causing slick conditions. Even for Buescher, who has six previous starts at the high-banked, 0.555-mile oval, the weather conditions gave Salem a new face.

"It's definitely slick and definitely getting a little rougher," he said. "There's more character, I guess you could say. It's still a fun track here. We're working on it and trying to go a little better on these longer runs. I think this new tire's falling off a little more, so we're working on that a little bit. Overall, it's still running pretty good."

Buescher said the car he has this weekend is one he's driven a lot in the past, and he figures the race setup to be as dialed in as for his Salem victory last fall.

"(Crew chief and team co-owner) Gary (Roulo) has worked hard all through practice and we think we're in a good position," he said.

Clint King, last fall's Salem pole winner, and Tom Hessert completed the top five. Chad Hackenbracht, May 2011 winner Brennan Poole, Mikey Kile, Mason Mingus, and 15-year-old Erik Jones rounded out the top 10.

Nine-time Salem Speedway winner Frank Kimmel will start 11th.

After leading the first practice but having to recover from driveline issues, Will Kimmel qualified 14th at his home track.

WUME 95.3 FM of Paoli, Ind. will produce and air the online audio broadcast for ARCARacing.com, and also air the race in southern Indiana. The race is scheduled as the third of 20 this season.

·         109 cars attended the annual Car Show held at Thunder Road
·         46 ACT Late Models participated in practice in preparation for Sunday’s Merchants Bank 150.
·         Joey Polewarcyzk Jr. of Hudson, NH had the fastest lap time of 13.069.
·         Other fast times were set by defending Late Model Champion Dave Pembroke, two-time defending Merchants Bank 150 Champion Nick Sweet, Lt. Governor Phil Scott, former Rookie of the Year Cody Blake, as well as Ben Rowe, Brooks Clark, Randy Potter, and Cris Michaud in the Merchants Bank Ford Fusion.

·         Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, ME was also fast in practice after flying back from a fifth place finish at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL in his Brad Keselowski Racing Development ride on Friday night.
·         Four (4) Canadian teams participated in practice with former ACT Champion Patrick Laperle the fastest among them with a time of 13.175
·         Cris Michaud, of E. Montpelier won the pit stop contest with a time of 21.69 after Patrick Laperle’s team recorded a time of 21.63 but received a 10 second penalty for two loose lugnuts
·         Brent Dragon of Milton, VT was the most consistent driver of the day.  He was in the top five fastest cars in the first three practices.
·         All but two of the ACT Late Model Champions over the past 20 years (Pete Fecteau and Lance Ferno) will attempt to qualify for The Merchants Bank 150
·         David Finck of Barre, VT and Shawn Fleury of Middlesex, VT  were consistently the fastest Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen
·         Cam Ouelette of Barre, VT and Tommy Smith of Williamstown, VT ran the fastest times of the day in the Allen Lumber Street Stock division. 
·         Street Stock driver Brock Parrot of Williamstown, VT took a spin after a malfunction in the drive train, and the wheel of the #35 Street Stock of Keith Fortier of Hinesburg, VT came off entering turn one.  All were okay. 
·         With no major wrecks or spins, all the cars participating in practice today are expected to attempt to qualify for the Merchants Bank 150 on Sunday, April 29 at 1pm.

 En raison des prévisions de temps froid avoisinnant les 0 degrés prévues pour demain matin, la journée "Porte Ouverte"  a été reportée au VENDREDI LE 4 MAI en soirée.

 

 Pour l'occasion, les puits ouvriront à 18h30. Les activités telles que les inspections, vente de pneus et essais en piste auront lieu tel que prévu, en espérant que Dame Nature sera de notre côté.

 

Noter que l'ENDURO 200 prévu pour dimanche le 29 avril aura lieu tel que prévu. Les puits ouvriront dès 7h00 am.

Barre, VT - Two-time and defending Serie ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle has filed his entry for the 14th Annual Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road.  The former ACT US star, who won the ACT Championship in 2008, will make his return to the Barre Highbanks to kick off the 2012 season.

De ses 19 victoires dans l’ACT, quatre d’entre elles sont survenues à la piste Thunder Road et il est au troisième rang au chapitre des succès dans l’ACT. Patrick s’est également signalé plus d’une fois dans le prestigieux Milk Bowl et en 2010, il a triomphé lors du Labor Day Classic.

Il va sans dire que Laperle est très enthousiaste concernant son début de saison.
« Normalement nous participons à quelques courses durant la saison hivernale, mais cet hiver, nous ne sommes pas sortis. Nous sommes donc plus qu’excités de commencer la saison », de dire Laperle. « Pour cette saison, nous avons de nouveaux commanditaires qui nous aiderons à participer à plus de courses. Cependant, nous allons les prendre l’une après l’autre et nous suivrons nos performances » de conclure Laperle.

Pour ce lever de rideau à la piste Thunder Road, Laperle aura de l’opposition, car les deux pilotes le précédant dans la liste des vainqueurs de l’ACT seront également de la partie. Huit fois champion de l’ACT, Brian Hoar qui a triomphé à la piste de Lee tentera de poursuivre dans le même sens dans ce championnat américain de l’ACT. Également sept fois détenteur de la couronne américaine, Jean-Paul Cyr tentera d’empêcher Hoar d’atteindre son objectif. Il compte également sur de bons résultats en 2012 pour rejoindre Hoar au sommet.

Vainqueur des deux dernières éditions du Merchants Bank 150, Nick Sweet sera sur place dans le but de réussir un triplé. Champion de la piste Thunder Road, David Pembroke sera également du nombre des participants tout comme les réputés Phil Scott et Chris Michaud. Pour cette 14e édition du Merchants Bank 150, on pourra franchir les tourniquets dès dix heures. L’admission pour les adultes sera de 20$.

Laperle’s resume at Thunder Road makes him an early favorite for the Merchants Bank 150.  His 19 ACT wins, four of which have been at Thunder Road, is third overall on the All-Time ACT Win List. He is a multi-time Thunder Road Milk Bowl Champion as well as the 2010 Labor Day Classic winner.

Laperle is enthusiastic about starting the 2012 racing season.

“Usually we compete in races over the winter, but we did not do that this year.  We are more excited than ever to start the season.” commented Laperle. “We have added some new sponsors this year which will allow us to race more, so we will take it one race at a time and see where we are.” Laperle finished.

Laperle will not be without competition at the Thunder Road opener, however, as the two drivers listed above him on the ACT All Time Win List will also be in competition.  Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT fresh off of his win at Lee USA in the season opener will be looking to continue his hot streak on the ACT U.S.  Seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT will be looking to dethrone Hoar and tie him in ACT Championships during the 2012 season.  There will also be stiff competition from Barre’s Nick Sweet, the winner of the last two Merchants Bank 150s, David Pembroke of Middlesex, VT, the defending Thunder Road Late Model Champion, as well as multi-time champions Phil Scott and Cris Michaud.
