PASS South Competitors Ready to Hit South Boston
Speedway This Weekend after Getting Washed Out in March FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pro All Stars Series-South Contact: Chris Ragle Charlotte, NC 6/5/12- After getting washed out on March 24th in what would have been the second PASS South Series race of 2012; the series returns to the South Boston (VA) Speedway this Saturday night for race six of the season schedule. Kyle Grissom coming off his win at the Concord (NC) Speedway in the series’ last outing will lead the field of drivers into the 4/10th mile track in control of the championship standings. Grissom, lead by crew chief Greg Marlow, has already picked up two wins this season in his first year of super late model competition. The guy right on his heels is Winston-Salem, North Carolina driver Brandon Ward. Ward picked up his first career win at Wake County Speedway leading all 125 laps on his way to victory. He and his New Day Motorsports team are just ten points out of the top spot showcasing the model of consistency. |
With former PASS South driver Andy Loden, who had the best average finish at South Boston a year ago, out of the mix the door is wide open for drivers such as Landon Cling, Jay Fogleman, and David Latour Jr. to pick up their first win of the season. Latour Jr. is another driver just like above mentioned Grissom that is in his first year of super late model racing after a career behind the slower and heavier late model stock cars. During that time the twenty-one year old Advance, North Carolina driver raced regularly at the southern Virginia track finishing fifth in weekly series points standings in 2012. “I’m really happy to be going back to South Boston in a super late model this weekend. We had so much success there in the late model stock I think there will definitely be some things that we can apply to the super that should set us up to have a good outing Saturday night,” mentioned Latour Jr. “If I’m going to get my first win behind the wheel of a super late model this year I think it will come at South Boston. We know the place, I’ve got a great team behind me, and so far this season our Bull City racecar has been getting better and better every week.” While several drivers such as Preston Peltier, Ross Kenseth, and Landon Cling all look to get back on their high horses at SoBo after struggling as of late, others such as veteran Jay Fogleman and rookie Nate Caruth have all kinds of momentum heading into this weekend’s 150 lap race. Fogleman matched a season best finish of second at Concord last race out. Fogleman had not had a podium finish dating back to the season opener at the Dillon (SC) Motor Speedway on March 10th. Iowa native Caruth, whose background is dirt modified racing throughout the Midwest, made it back-to-back top five finishes with his fifth place finish at Concord. His comfort level has grown with each and every PASS South Series start. Thanks to a Friday afternoon practice session back in March before the rains came Caruth will know what to expect out of the Virginia track come this weekend when the series returns. Outside the championship contenders Brandon Jones of Georgia, Bill Catania, Tim Pinion of nearby Roanoke, Virginia, and Justin Allison, grandson of Donnie Allison, have all filed entries for this weekend’s PASS South SoBo 150. The “BIG BOYS WITH THE BAD FAST TOYS” get into action Saturday afternoon June 9th at the South Boston Speedway starting with practice at 2pm, followed by time trails at 4:30pm. The series always popular on-track meet and greet with the drivers of the PASS South Series gets underway at approximately 5:45pm and there's 150 laps of live green flag super late model racing at 7pm.
