DEREK WHITE TRUCKIN' AT DAYTONA

February 21, 2011.  Former NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie of the Year Derek White is teaming with Hackett Racing to compete in the season opening Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway.  White will pilot the #76 Warrior Gaming Associates Ford for the NextEra Energy Resources 250 this Friday February 24th.

 

Derek White very pleased with this opportunity driving the #76 Warrior Gaming Associates Truck and competing in his first event at Daytona.  “It’s been great to work with the team and my Crew Chief Kevin Eagle” said White.  “I got to know everyone at Hackett Racing last year and they’ve all worked really hard to get ready for this race” he added.

 

The excitement of racing on the high banks at Daytona Speedway for the first time could be intimidating but White is anxious to hit the track.  “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time” said White.  “When I hit the track for practice I’ll be smiling, but I’ll also be 100 percent focused on the job of getting ready for qualifying to make the race” he stated. 

 

White is no stranger to tough competition.  The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series where he competed and won the 2010 Rookie of the Year award despite missing one event.  Last season in a limited schedule White opened plenty of eyes at the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres where on a rain soaked course he posted a career best seventh place finish after starting 21st.  “There are a lot of talented drivers in the Canadian Tire Series” said White.  “It’s great to compete against those guys every weekend”.

 

As a resident of Kahnawake, Quebec Derek White is equally proud to be displaying the Native owned Warrior Gaming Associates logo on the #76 Ford Truck.  Warrior Gaming Associates manufactures gaming machines.  “I’m proud of this is a new partnership in racing and I’m hoping it continues for a very long time” said White. 

   

Practice for the NextEra Energy Resources 250 begins Thursday February 23rd at 12:10PM with final practice at 6PM.  Qualifying will be on Friday February 24th at 4:05 and the green flag for the opening race of the Camping World Truck Series drops at 7:30PM.  Race fans in Canada and the US can watch the race live on SPEED TV.

 

Derek White will be fielding a full time entry in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in 2012 with Steve Cote as driver and is also planning to participate in several events himself.

REVSTAR PR - Une première se transforme en exhibition

En l'absence d'un des réguliers, Jean-Nicolas Gareau qui n'a pu se présenter en raison d'un conflit d'horaire avec son nouveau travail et des déboires de Daniel Nadeau dès la première pratique, les organisateurs ont décidé que la course inaugurale sur glace serait remplacée par une course d'exhibition. L'entrée officielle est donc reporté à la semaine prochaine, lors de l'épreuve présentée à Repentigny.

 

 

La neige complique la tâche des pilotes REVSTAR
Sur la surface de l'anneau de glace de Beauharnois, beaucoup de neige s'est accumulée rendant les conditions difficiles pour les pilotes, puisque les voitures REVSTAR sont de type "Open Wheels". Les roues soulevaient la neige rendant la visibilité pratiquement nulle.

Le pilote, qui avait loué la voiture 66, est également inscrit dans deux classes locales. Avec l'horaire chargé de la journée, c'était devenu impossible pour lui de prendre part à la série REVSTAR. Il a décidé de laisser le volant à son bon ami, Derek White bien connu des amateurs de Nascar. Après sa première présence en piste, Derek n'a pas caché sa joie : "Woow, ! quelle sensation."

Malgré le peu de voitures sur la grille de départ, le spectacle a été relevé. Après la première séance de qualification de 8 tours chaudement disputée, les pilotes étaient de retour pour la première course (non officielle). Dès le début, une véritable bagarre s'est engagée entre Derek White et Gabriel Richer. White pouvait contenir les attaques de Gabriel Richer durant les 4 premiers tours, mais Richer s'est fait encore plus insistant, pourchassant le pilote de Nascar avec des attaques de tous bords, tous côtés. Richer aura finalement le dessus et parviendra à croiser le drapeau à damier en première place pour remporter sa première victoire de sa jeune carrière. Gabriel Richer était fier de pouvoir enfin savourer sa première  victoire et par surcroit devant un pilote aussi renommé que Derek White.  Les nombreux spectateurs ont bien apprécié la performance des pilotes de REVSTAR

 

Une première expérience qui s'est avérée plus difficile que prévue mais ce n'est que partie remise. Les organisateurs ne sont pas découragés et ils comptent se reprendre la semaine prochaine sur le petit Bristol de glace de Repentigny dans un programme organisé par Buddy Ford qui s'annonce dès plus prometteur. Nous sommes convaincu que la glace sera de très bonne qualité et qu'elle conviendra mieux à nos bolides.

REVSTAR met tout en oeuvre pour avoir un plateau d'au moins 6 voitures au départ.

La série REVSTAR tient à souligner l'excellent accueil des organisateurs de Beauharnois malgré des conditions de glace différentes de ce que nous nous attendions. Les amateurs ont eu droit à un excellent programme dans toutes les catégories.

On vous donne rendez-vous la semaine prochaine, cette fois sera la bonne ! Vous pourrez assister à la toute première course officielle de la série REVSTAR sur glace. Une première à ne  pas manquer !

Derek White - Homestead Practice Update

Homestead Truck Practice Update for Derek White

   

Homestead, FL.  (November 19, 2010)  Derek White the 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series rookie of the year began practice as scheduled for this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Homestead Miami Speedway on Thursday evening and made some impressive gains during the one hour session.  Rain showers delayed the final practice session until this morning and White continued to improve his lap times in the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet.

 

From the first laps on the very fast one and half mile oval track Derek White felt very comfortable in the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Chevrolet.  “The Truck felt really good underneath me” said White.  “After each run the team made a couple of small adjustments and I was able to drive a little deeper into corner number one and we picked up some speed” he added.

 

The final practice session ran this morning due to showers on Thursday night.  Derek White again posted impressive lap times and was among the top five drivers who had the best 10 consecutive lap average speeds.  White only wished he had more time on the track.  “It seems that we got better and better as the session went on” said the driver.  “We also made one adjustment right at the end of the session that also helped the handling. 

 

White’s plan for the race in the #6 Race101/OCR Gaz Bar Truck is quite simple.  “We are to finish the race” he said confidently.  “I’m going to learn as much as possible and hopefully finish on the lead lap” added the driver.

 

Qualifying for the NASCAR Camping World Truck series from Homestead Miami Speedway takes place later today at 5PM Eastern.  The 200 mile feature race will go green at 8PM tonight.  The race can be seen live on SPEED with the pre race show beginning at 7:30PM.

PR - OCR GAZ BAR SCORES TOP-TEN FINISH


DEREK WHITE SCORES TOP-TEN FINISH AT DELAWARE

 

June 6, 2010.  Racer Derek White and the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar Race Team have worked extremely hard during the off season preparing for their first year of competition in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  At race number one of the season, The Keystone Light 200, at Delaware Speedway near London, Ontario the team’s efforts were rewarded with a splendid seventh place finish.

 

The #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar team worked tirelessly during practice but didn’t quite have the car handling perfectly.  White would only be able to manage a seventeenth place starting spot on the grid and knew he would have to be patient despite the rain showers that were approaching.

 

When the 200 lap event began White kept to his approach.  “I just waited, waited and saved my tires, saved gas and let the guys battle it out” said the driver.  “You’ve got to be so patient and let the race come to you” he added.  The #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar driver was rewarded for his efforts as he began to make progress in the field.

 

Despite the threat of an early end the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar car driver maintained his approach and further improved his position late in the race.  “I just stayed calm and waited for chances to snake through the mayhem out there” he smiled.  “There were a lot of guys who were a lap down that were trying to get it all back and I just kept steady, tried to hold a good pace and did my best to avoid all the contact he added.

 

The 200 lap event would have a total of thirteen caution periods for 101 laps and through it all the #99 DPW/OCR Gaz Bar car driver Derek White maintained his composure and finished with a seventh place result.  “I was a bit lucky for sure, I don’t know how I got through it all, a couple of them were really close but this is the first top-ten I’ve had and I love it. I’m really excited and that’s the way to start the year.  I’m ready for that road course next week” he concluded.

NCTS - DJ KENNINGTON WINS

DJ KENNINGTON DEFENDS NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES TITLE AT DELAWARE

St. Thomas driver wins the Keystone Light 200 presented by the Fleetwood Country Cruize-in

Delaware, ON (June 5, 2010) DJ Kennington is still the only driver to win a NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race at Delaware Speedway. The St. Thomas, Ontario, driver won the Keystone Light 200 presented by the Fleetwood Country Cruize-in, the 2010 series’ opening race, hosted by Delaware.

After starting from the pole, Kennington led the first 75 laps. He was briefly passed for the lead by Steven Matthews (no. 15) at lap 77 but Kennington regained top spot a lap later and continued out front until pitting at lap 89. When Kennington pitted, JR Fitzpatrick (no. 84) became the third different leader of the race. Like Kennington, Fitzpatrick later surrendered the lead when he made a pit stop, giving up the top spot to Pete Shepherd (no. 7) at lap 106. Despite having to come back through the field, Kennington and Fitzpatrick were destined to meet again.

Shepherd held off the field until lap 131, when Mark Dilley became the fifth different race leader, coming from the ninth starting position to pace the field.

At lap 156, Ron Sheridan (no. 52) gave the hometown fans a thrill when he passed Dilley for the lead, the sixth lead change of the night. Dilley took the front spot away two laps later, only to be overcome by Kennington, who had come through the field through the second half of the race.

A late-race wreck involving Anthony Simone (no. 95) brought out a red flag in an effort to finish the race under green flag conditions. The resulting restart was a wild, rough-and-tumble affair that saw Fitzpatrick restart second on Kennington’s outside. Fitzpatrick nearly lost control of his car in between turns three and four as he pushed it just past its limits in an effort to get past Kennington, his rival and good friend.

The final lap saw Sheridan tied up in an incident in turn two, taking away what looked to be a podium finish. Several other cars spun out in other parts of the race track as the leaders took the checkered flag.

For Kennington, the finish marked a successful repeat of his victory one year ago, in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series’ debut at Delaware Speedway. Fitzpatrick was second and Jeff Lapcevich (no. 23) finished third.

After the incident on the final lap, Sheridan ended up eleventh, however his finish does not do justice to how strong his number 52 car was. In his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series debut, the Delaware Speedway weekly competitor ran inside the top five the entire second half of the race, giving himself a chance to win. Another former Delaware Speedway weekly competitor, Jason Hathaway (no. 3) was also running strong at the end but was tied up in the same incident that ruined Sheridan’s chances. Hathaway finished tenth.

Derek White - Camping World Trucks in Kansas

Derek White de Kahnawake, QC ce weekend était au Kansas pour essayer de prendre sont 3e départ en carrière dans la série de camion NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Derek White of Kahnawake, QC was attempting this weekend to qualify for his third NASCAR Truck Camping World Series (used to be the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series) start in Kansas.

Le régulier des séries ACT Castrol et de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire Series n’a malheureusement pu tourer un temps assez rapide pour se mériter une place parmi le groupe des 36 partants.

« Nous sommes arrivé ici avec un camion de courte piste tandis que les autres sont ici avec des camions de longue piste, nous avons donc dû composer avec un désavantage aérodynamique important. Sur la ligne droite nous étions jusqu’à 10mph plus lent que les autres. C’est très décevant » déclara White quelques minutes après que les dernières camionnettes aient complété leurs tours de qualification.

Si Derek White encaissait amèrement cette performance, il a déjà commencé à préparer les prochaines étapes dont une formation en circuit routier à Las Vegas prochainement. Une formation qui sera donné par Ron Fellowss.

A regular on the ACT Castrol and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series fronts, he unfortunately was not able to turn a lap fast enough to lock himself in the 36 truck starting field.

“We got here with a good truck, but its a short track truck. Meanwhile the others came here with Super Speedway trucks. We had to deal with the aero handicap which made us some 10 mph slower than others on the straight aways” said White a few minutes after the last trucks had completed their qualifying runs.

If Derek White was visibly disappointed with tonight’s performance, he is already looking ahead. One thing he is looking forward is the road race class he will attend in Las Vegas. Povided by Ron Fellows i
