World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing - night 1

New Smyrna, Fla - Une première soirée remplies de rebondissement à New Smyrna Speedway, d’abord des disqualifications en time trial, de l’indiscipline en piste et d’autres disqualifications lors des inspections d’après course.

New Smyrna, Fla – A night filled with emotion and rebounds at New Smyrna Speedway, first with some disqualification in post time trials, then indiscipline on track during the races and again in tech after the races.

Les classes IMCA/Florida Modified et Super Late ont été ponctuées de nombreux accidents et même quelques drapeaux rouge ce qui a fait que la soirée a perdurée… et même que la classe SK a vue ses tours coupé de moitié (de 30 à 15).

Martin Latulipe a signé une victoire et Kevin Roberge une troisième place dans la classe Crate / Late Model.

Latulippe qui s’étais élancé de la position de tête après que les 5 premiers soient disqualifié à la suite des time trials et de l’inversion roulait bien mais n’était pas assez rapide pour Dalton Zehr. Il a donc vu Zehr lui prendre la position de tête.

« Nous n’avions pas la bonne gear. La voiture était soudée, mais le cut off embarquait au flagman » déclara Latulippe.

Après l’inspection ont apprendra que Zehr utilisait des ressorts de valve non conforme et fut disqualifié.

En plus de Zehr, les ontariens Brandon Watson et Cole Powell aussi ont passé devant Latulippe. Les deux ont même pris les commandes de l’épreuve. Alors qu’ils s’amenait pour le quadrillé à la sortie de la 4, Powell a envoyé Watson en tête-à-queue provoquant tout un carmbolage.

Zehr, Latulippe, Austin Kirkpatrick, Kevin Roberge et Jerick Johnson ont croisé le fil d’arrivé dans l’ordre. Même que Kirkpatrick a croisé le fil de reculons.

Le grand opportuniste fut Roberge. Avec 1 tour à faire il était 8^e. Dans l’incident Watson (bris) / Powell (pénalité) l’autre ontarien Shawn McWhirter n’a pu éviter la voiture de Watson et a terminé la course en percutant son confrère de l’ontario.

In the IMCA/Florida Modified and Super Late classes there was so many cautions and even a couple red flags that made the night drag on... officials even cut the sk feature from 30 to 15 lasp.

Vallée Jonction’s Martin Latulippe won and Lévis’ Kevin Roberge finished 3^rd in the Crate / Late Model ranks.

Latulippe who started on the pole after some disqualification in post time trial and due to the inversion ran well but wasn’t fast enough to hold back Dalton Zehr and conceded the top spot over.

“We just didn’t have the right gear. The car was welded to the track but the cut off would kick in at the flagman” said Latulippe.

Following post race inspection we would lean that Zehr was using illegal valve springs and was disqualified.

In addition to Zehr, Ontario drivers Brandon Watson and Cole Powell also powered around Latulippe. They even took over the lead of the race. With only a few feet remaining, coming out of turn four, Powell dumped Watson sending him in a spin at the front of the field.

Zehr, Latulippe, Austin Kirkpatrick, Kevin Roberge and Jerick Johnson cross the stat/finish line in that order. Even Kirkpatrick did so going backwards as a spun due to the incident.

The winner from that ordeal was Roberge. Eight with one lap to go he was credited with fourth place when Watson was taken out, Powell diqualified for rough driving, the other Ontario driver Shawn McWhirter was also involved in the incident and dropped to the back of the field as he collected Watson car sitting across the track.

ACT: Plusieurs Canadiens à New Smyrna

PLUSIEURS PILOTES CANADIENS SERONT
DE LA PARTIE À NEW SMYRNA

Waterbury, VT--- Le vétéran Donald Theetge a été le premier pilote québécois à s’inscrire en prévision de la Coupe Goodyear qui se tiendra à la piste New Smyrna en Floride, mais plusieurs de ses rivaux ont également fait parvenir leur inscription en prévision de ces deux épreuves qui auront lieu dans le cadre de la « Série mondiale sur courte piste asphaltée » à cet endroit. Ces deux confrontations de 100 tours sont prévues pour le dimanche 13 février ainsi que le lendemain soir.

Alors que milliers d’amateurs se dirigent vers Daytona durant cette période, la majorité d’entre eux se retrouvent à New Smyrna lors des soirées du 10 au 19 février. C’est une tradition qui existe depuis longtemps et tous se souviendront des présences à cet endroit de réputés pilotes tels que Richie Evans, Jerry Cook, Bugsy Stevens dans la division modifiée et celles de Junior Hanley en ce qui a trait à la classe Late Model.

La direction de l’American-Canadian Tour a annoncé que Karl Allard de St-Félicien, le champion de la série ACT-Castrol Edge y serait présent pour défendre les couleurs de l’équipe Larue tout comme Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, double champion de l’ACT et un pilote redouté à cette piste floridienne. Laperle est venu près de remporter le titre en 2009 à New Smyrna après dominé. Malheureusement, un accident lors de la dernière soirée devait mettre fin à ses espoirs. Il a tout de même terminé au second rang.

Parmi les autres Canadiens qui ont expédié leur inscription pour New Smyrna, on y remarque le nom du vétéran Yvon Bédard qui avait quitté la série ACT-Castrol Edge avant la fin de la saison en 2010, alors que le groupe de pilotes ontariens sera guidé par Jonathan Urlin. Justin Holtom, Tim Dorning et Spencer McPherson se joindront à lui. Aussi Patrick Hamel et Kevin Roberge ont également fait part de leur intention d’y participer.

« Nous sommes plus que satisfaits des inscriptions reçues jusqu’à maintenant et je pense que nous n’aurons aucune difficulté à former la grille des 26 partants à chaque épreuve de la façon dont les choses se déroulent présentement », de dire Tina Gallison, directrice administrative de l’ACT.

ACT CANADIAN STARS TO INVADE NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY IN FEBRUARY

For Immediate Release ACT – 010411-01

Waterbury, VT – Quebec City racer Donald Theetge might have been the first Canadian to enter the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Goodyear Speedweek Cup event to be held at the New Smyrna Speedway in Florida, but the Canadian competitor list continues to lead the way toward the first-ever ACT events to be held during the World Series of Asphalt Short Track Racing in New Smyrna. The two 100-lap main events will be held on Sunday, February 13^th and Monday, February 14^th.

While many head to Daytona during Speedweeks in February, most asphalt short track fans can be found each night from February 10^th-19^th during the 10 days that is the World Series of Short Track racing in nearby New Smyrna, FL. The tradition of northern competitors heading to Florida from the days of Richie Evans, Jerry Cook, Bugsy Stevens and a host of the greatest from the Northeast Modified division to Late Model Canadian great Jr. Hanley--- New Smyrna has always been the place to be during the heart of the northern winters.

ACT announced today that 2010 Castrol Champion Karl Allard has entered his Quebec City Larue Industrial team into the inaugural Goodyear Speedweek Cup event. Allard narrowly beat out another Quebec Champion, Patrick Laperle from Montreal, QC, who has also entered the two events. Laperle is one of the few ACT drivers to compete at New Smyrna in the past few years. His family team led most of the World Series standings in 2009 in the Late Model crate division before he was wrecked in the next to last night of competition. The Allard-Laperle rivalry will get an early start in 2011.

Other notable Canadian teams that will make the trek to New Smyrna include Quebec veteran Yvon ‘The Bullet’ Bedard and London, Ontario’s Jonathan Urlin. A large number of young Canadian teams have entered, including: Justin Holtom, Tim Dorning and Spencer Macpherson from the Ottawa region of Ontario, along with Castrol regulars Patrick Hamel and Kevin Roberge from Quebec.

“We are really excited about the pre-entries we have received. I don’t think we will have any problem filling our 26-car field with the support we are getting. Right now we have an equal number of Canadian and US teams who have entered, and we expect another half dozen entries by the January 10 deadline,” said Tina Gallison, Director of Administration for ACT.

The Goodyear Speedweek Cup will use the unique qualifying system of heat racing, and each 100-lap event will award points on two consecutive nights to determine the overall standings and the first winner of the Goodyear Speedweek Cup.

L’ACT ANNONCE DES SANCTIONS

Waterbury, VT – Faisant suite à l’ASE 300 qui s’est déroulé à l’Autodrome St-Eustache, dimanche après-midi, une pénalité a été imposée à l’équipe du 3QC de Sylvain Lacombe. Le pilote est responsable des actions posées par les membres de son équipe à la suite d’un incident survenu sur la piste. Il est ainsi pour les gestes posés dans la ligne des puits.

Cette pénalité est imposée en vertu des articles suivants du livre de règlements.

L’équipe Lacombe a été disqualifiée de la course et ne recevra aucune bourse et point. En plus, un montant de 500 $ en devises canadiennes devra être versé au RPQ (Regroupement des pilotes du Québec) avant tout retour dans une compétition sanctionnée par l’American-Canadian Tour.

Également, toujours au sujet de cet événement, les officiels de l’ACT ont enquêté sur l’incident au cours duquel, Jonathan Urlin, le pilote de la voiture 4ON a été attaqué par des amateurs en colère faisant suite aux incidents survenus lors des deux derniers tours de cette course alors que lui et Patrick Laperle bataillaient pour la victoire. Durant cette enquête, aucune information n’a été trouvée afin de vérifier si quelqu’un d’autre que les admirateurs de Laperle étaient responsables de cette attaque. Daniel Laperle, frère et «spotter» de Patrick Laperle, aurait informé les officiels que l’équipe savait qu’elle était sous probation depuis le premier juin en raison d’un incident similaire survenu à l’Autodrome Chaudière.

« Ces deux pilotes ont lutté âprement pour remporter cette course. Ils se sont, tous les deux, démolis. C’est malheureux qu’un groupe d’admirateurs aient décidé de s’en prendre à un pilote alors qu’il tentait de sortir de sa voiture endommagée pour lui administrer des coups près du garage alors que les officiels étaient dans l’allée des puits afin de régler d’autres problèmes. Si Jonathan Urlin avait été en mesure d’identifier seulement une des personnes qui l’ont agressé, nous l’aurions aidé et supporté dans les actions légales qu’il aurait décidé de prendre. En tant qu’organisation, nous sommes à examiner certaines options pour assurer une meilleure sécurité lors de nos événements tant pour les compétiteurs que les officiels » de dire Tom Curley, le président de l’American-Canadian Tour.

La prochaine épreuve de l’ACT aura lieu ce week-end à la piste Thunder Road de Barre au Vermont. Il s’agira alors de la 48^e édition du Milk Bowl, une épreuve disputée en trois segments de 50, 75 et 75 tours. L’admission pour les deux jours est de 25 $ en devises américains.

AMERICAN CANADIAN TOUR ANNOUNCES PENALTIES FOLLOWING STE EUSTACHE 300

Waterbury, VT - Following the 300 lap event at the Autodrome Ste-Eustache last Sunday, September 26, 2010, a penalty was issued to the # 3QC team of Sylvain Lacombe. The driver is responsible for the actions of his team and following an on-track incident, the team’s actions along pit road during the event and subsequently at the conclusion of the event, mandated a penalty for the # 3QC team under the following ACT Rulebook criteria.

“At all events, the driver assumes responsibility for the actions of his pit crew and actions in his pit area, including any unpaid fines for violations of conduct. Unpaid fines and/or related charges may be deducted from driver purse or point fund monies. Further, driver may be fined, suspended or otherwise penalized, based on the actions of his/her pit crew”.

“Penalties for violation of series/track rules are determined by the gravity of the violation and its effect on the safety and good reputation of the series/track. Such penalties may include disqualification, suspension, fines and/or loss of points”.

“Any member who performs an act or participates in actions deemed by officials as detrimental to the sport or to the series/track, including but not limited to verbal abuse of any official, the consumption of alcoholic beverages in the pit area during an event, the use of drugs, fighting and reckless driving may be fined not less than $100 and may also have additional disciplinary measures instituted.”

The Lacombe team was disqualified from the event, and will receive no points or purse. Additionally, a $500 CDN fine payable to the RPQ 2010 Point Fund was imposed, prior to any return to ACT competition.

In a related matter at the event, officials from the American Canadian Tour have investigated the issue when the driver of the #4 ON team, Jonathan Urlin from London, Ontario was attacked by an angry mob of fans following the wreck in the final two laps when he and Patrick Laperle from nearby St. Denis, Quebec battled for the win. During the investigation there was no information discovered to verify that anyone other than a number of Laperle fans were responsible for attacking Urlin following the event. In fact, Daniel Laperle, brother and spotter of Patrick Laperle, informed officials that the team is very aware that they have been on probation since the first of June because of a similar incident following a Victory Lane ruckus at the Autodrome Chaudiere.

“The two raced hard for the win at the 300-lap race. They wrecked each other. It is unfortunate that a group of fans decided to gang up on one driver who was climbing out of his wrecked racer and beat on him in the garage area while literally every other team and official was out on pit road dealing with other issues. If Jonathan Urlin could have identified any one of the people who assaulted him, we would have supported and assisted with whatever legal options he may have had. As an organization, we are looking into our options on how we might be able to require better security at certain events for our competitors and officials,” said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour.

The next event for the American Canadian Tour is at the Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT with the 48^th running of the Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl. The $80,000.00 event will be run on Saturday, October 2 and 3. Gates will open at 10:00 each day and post time is 1:00. Admission is only $20 dollars for Sunday and a two-day ticket is just $25. Kids 12 and under are free.

Delaware Speedway July 16th results and recap!

SISKINS CAR WINS ON SISKINS NIGHT AT DELAWARE SPEEDWAY!

Winners: Jonathan Urlin, Jason Lidster, Paul Fothergill

July 16, 2010 (London, Ontario)

The first NASCAR Late Model race since the Delaware Summer Showdown, and this one for points, ran caution-free for 35 exciting laps. It began bookended by Robblees. Matt's #51 had the pole and his father, defending champ Steve, ran one lap in the 28 to gather points for starting before taking it to the pits.

Scott Lindsay (20) took the lead at the second lap and fought off Jonathan Urlin (04) for a couple of dozen laps before Urlin made it out front at lap 27. Ron Sheridan stayed on Urlin's heels and also moved up a spot. Sheridan would have loved to rack up another feature win but he told announcer Jamie Maudsley after the race that, "I had nothing left for him (Urlin) at the end."

Urlin rode to Victory Lane in his Siskins sponsored car on the law firm's sponsored night. Sheridan was second, Lindsay came in third.

Disappointment for Stephen Richmond during Super Stocks practice but it was lessened because of the generosity of a pal. Richmond broke an axle on his #24 and crashed into the wall at turn 4. The car sustained enough damage to keep it out of the feature race. But Andrew Perkins stepped up and offered his car to Richmond so he could gather some points. The #3 was hastily renumbered 24 and Richmond was back in the game. (Perkins and Richmond came up together through Delaware's Junior Racing League.) About one-third of the way into the Super Stocks feature, the 3/24 got a couple of flat tires and Richmond decided to call it a night.

An unusual sight early in the first Super Stocks heat. The #69 of Kris Root was tagged and sent flying backwards, smack into the front of the Delaware Safety Truck. No one was hurt but Whitworth Towing had to come by and separate the vehicles. The delay gave Root enough time to get his car repaired and back out when the heat resumed. The Safety Truck stayed on duty with a crumpled front bumper.

It was a night of vindication for Delaware Super Stocks driver Jason Lidster (11) who was denied a win last week on a call by officials.

The Super Stocks feature started with Rob Windis out front. Two cautions – one at lap 2 and one on that caution's restart – both involved Dave Chant (19) and the second took (74) Al Bowman out of the race.

At lap 5, Windis had an increasingly cushy lead as Devon Bloemendal (66) lost the battle to keep his 3^rd position and within a lap, had fallen to 6^th.

At lap 8 a dramatic crash occurred on turn 3. Kris Root (69) spun and Jake Ott (60) and Matt Humphrys (04) ran into him giving the clean-up crew and Whitworth Towing plenty to do. One side of Ott's car was nearly sheared off and Humphrys went to the pits but Root got back out to race.

Last week's feature winner, Jeremy Reid, took enough damage in that scrap to end his night.

A new leader at lap 10 – Jason Lidster (11) with Kris Lawrence pulling ahead of Windis to take second. At lap 14 the 99 of Scott Nagy took a solo spin and brought out Sharpie's yellow flag again.

Another minor tangle involving Ott on turn 3 brought out another caution at lap 14.

With Lidster and Lawrence fairly secure in their positions, the battle for the right to join them on Victory Lane featured a half dozen drivers over 11 laps. Third place went to Scott O'Connor.

In Demar Aggregates Trucks, Gary Triska (57) had the pole but it only took a lap and a half for Devon Bloemendal (01) to take the lead. Division points leader Paul Fothergill (33) bulleted from14th place to take second at lap five and by then Bloemendal had a half-a-straightaway lead.

The scoreboard showed Jordan Dupuis in third but there was a whole lot of pavement separating him from the two leaders. Fothergill closed the gap by the halfway point and spent about a lap side-by-side with Bloemendal before capturing the lead at lap 18.

Dupuis took some bumps from Jeff Showler (56) for third as Fothergill lost the lead to Bloemendal at lap 21 after getting snarled in lap traffic.

A caution at lap 22 as Derek Clark (7) and Craig Marche (15) made contact just off turn two. Clark took a spin through the pits and was able to rejoin the race when the green came back out and raced with a dislocated shoulder and no power steering left.

Lap 23 saw Fothergill reclaim the lead and he kept it through the checkered flag. Bloemendal's error cost him a top-three place, landing fourth. Jordan Dupuis was second, Jeff Showler, third.

Last week's winner, Michelle Koricina, finished 9^th.
