2012 WORLD SERIES OF ASPHALT - NIGHT 2 RECAP

 2012-02-19 – Les premières épreuves des 46e World Series of Stock Car Asphalt ont finalement pu être disputées hier soir. Le tout a été disputé sous un merveilleux ciel et une chaude soirée de la Floride.
2012-02-19 – Finally, the first races of the 46th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing are in the books.  After being postponed the night before under a clear sky and warm Florida evening.



En Pro Late Models l’Ontarien Brandon Watson a savouré la victoire... jusqu’à l’inspection technique où il a été disqualifié pour une pièce illégale (rock arm).  Travis Swaim a donc hérité de la victoire.
In the Pro Late Models Stayner, Ontario (Canada)’s Brandon Watson celebrated a first win... until he got to tech.  Where he was disqualified for using illegal rock arms.  Travis Swaim inherited the win.







En Super Late Models, la victoire a été à Kyle Larson, au volant d’une voiture préparée par Tim Russell.  Martin Latulippe le gagnant 2011 en classe Crate Late Model était bien fier de terminer 3e avec une toute nouvelle voiture.  Malheureusement, Ricky Brooks, le chef inspecteur en aura décidé autrement et là disqualifié pour avoir dépassé le pourcentage de poids maximum à gauche par 0.1%.
In the Super Late Models, the win went to Kyle Larson, driving a Tim Russell development car.  Quebec’s Martin Latulippe, the 2011 Crate Late Model Champion, finished third and was proud of his finish in a brand new car.  Unfortunately for him, Chief Inspector Ricky Brooks disqualified him for excessive left side weight... at 0.1% over the limit.

En Tour Type Modifieds, Ted Christopher a été crédité de la victoire, mais c’est l’accrochage avec Ryan Preese que tout le monde parlait.  Preese en est sorti indemne.
In Tour type mods, Ted Christopher was credited with the win, but its the crash with Ryan Preese that everyone was talking about.  Preese got out of the car with no injuries.

2011 World Series of Asphalt - night 2

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – Une deuxième journée dans les World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing tout aussi payante pour les pilotes Roberge et Latulippe en classe Crate / Late Models.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – The second night of competition in the Crate / Late Models that are part of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing was as good as the previous one for Quebec drivers Kevin Roberge and Martin Latulippe.


Si hier Latulippe avait obtenu les honneurs ultime hier, une victoire, ce soir Roberge aura terminé au 2e range de la finale de 25 tours. Latulippe aura tout de même terminé quatrième du groupe.

Nu été du fait que cela aura pris 20+ minutes pour passer du 1er au 2e tour, les spectateurs en auront eu pour leur argent avec les différentes batailles.

Roberge qui partait prenait le départ en 5e place a remonté jusqu’à la 2e place. Mais en avait simplement pas assez pour rejoindre Austin Kirkpatrick et John Nutley et a croisé le fil en 3e place.

Lors de vérification technique Nutley a été disqualifié pour des ressorts de valve non conforme. De ce fait Roberge passe au 2e rang et Latulippe au quatrième rang.

L’équipe de Kevin étaient folle de joie… et attendaient avec impatience les résultats de l’inspection technique de Kirkpatrick… rêvant même à une disqualification. Mais ce ne fut pas le cas. Mario Roberge (le père) et Dany Lagacé étaient tout sourire avec le classement du jeune de Lévis, même s’il avait eu une troisième place.

Latulippe qui suivaient Roberge a eu la frousse lors du premier départ. Le meneur Jared Marks a fait un mauvais départ et les voitures se sont embouti avant la ligne départ / arrivée. Mais Latulippe a tamponé Roberge et là envoyé en tête à queue. Une chance… aucun tour de complété le groupe – incluant Roberge – s’élancera d’après l’ordre original.

Par la suite… 20 minutes à faire 1 tour. Faux départ, problème de repositionnement, accrochage… même le camion de tête en a arraché dans la séquence.

Par la suite le déroulement c’est gâté pour Latulippe qui a manqué un départ et a vu quelques compétiteurs le dépasser.

Bilan positif pour les deux pilotes. Moins bon pour Brandon Watson qui n’aura pu faire mieux qu’une 11e place (10e après la DSQ de Nutley) après s’être élancé en fond de grille.

If yesterday Latulippe was credited with the top honours, a win, tonight Roberge is credidted with second place in the 25 laps feature. Latulippe was credited with fourth.

If it wasn’t for the fact that it took 20+ minutes to get to lap two on the scoreboard, fans got their money’s worth with on track action.

Roberge who took the green flag in 5th place climbed positions up to second. Unfortunately he just didn’t have enough for Austin Kirkpatrick (winner) and John Nutley and crossed the stripe in third place.

Post race inspection revealed that Nutley was running out of spec valve springs and was disqualified for it. Because of this Roberge gets second place and Latulippe fourth place.

Kevin’s team was going nuts when they found out... anxiously waiting for Kirkpatrick’s tech result... even going so far as dreaming for as DSQ on the winenr. But it wasn’t the case. Mario Roberge (father) and Dany Lagacé were all smiles with the youngster’s results, even if it would have been a third place finish.

Latulippe who started behind Roberge got a scare on the initial start. Then pole sitter Jared Marks had a bad start and the cars bumped each other behind him before getting to the start / finish line. At that time Latulippe got into Roberge sending him in a sping. Thank god for the fact that no laps were in the books and everyone reclaimed their starting positions as it was a complete restart.

Then it got bad. Over 20 minutes to get over the 1 lap complete mark. False starts, line up issues, crashes.... even the pace trucks had a hard time in the sequence.

At one point Latulippe had a bad start and saw a couple competitors go by him.

Positive report card for the two drivers. Unfortunately not has good for Brandon Watson who couldn’t bring home better than 11th place (10 after Nutley’s DSQ) after starting deep in the field.

World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing - night 1

New Smyrna, Fla - Une première soirée remplies de rebondissement à New Smyrna Speedway, d’abord des disqualifications en time trial, de l’indiscipline en piste et d’autres disqualifications lors des inspections d’après course.

New Smyrna, Fla – A night filled with emotion and rebounds at New Smyrna Speedway, first with some disqualification in post time trials, then indiscipline on track during the races and again in tech after the races.

Brandon Watson comments after the race, about leading and being wrecked.

Les classes IMCA/Florida Modified et Super Late ont été ponctuées de nombreux accidents et même quelques drapeaux rouge ce qui a fait que la soirée a perdurée… et même que la classe SK a vue ses tours coupé de moitié (de 30 à 15).

Martin Latulipe a signé une victoire et Kevin Roberge une troisième place dans la classe Crate / Late Model.

Latulippe qui s’étais élancé de la position de tête après que les 5 premiers soient disqualifié à la suite des time trials et de l’inversion roulait bien mais n’était pas assez rapide pour Dalton Zehr. Il a donc vu Zehr lui prendre la position de tête.

« Nous n’avions pas la bonne gear. La voiture était soudée, mais le cut off embarquait au flagman » déclara Latulippe.

Après l’inspection ont apprendra que Zehr utilisait des ressorts de valve non conforme et fut disqualifié.

En plus de Zehr, les ontariens Brandon Watson et Cole Powell aussi ont passé devant Latulippe. Les deux ont même pris les commandes de l’épreuve. Alors qu’ils s’amenait pour le quadrillé à la sortie de la 4, Powell a envoyé Watson en tête-à-queue provoquant tout un carmbolage.

Zehr, Latulippe, Austin Kirkpatrick, Kevin Roberge et Jerick Johnson ont croisé le fil d’arrivé dans l’ordre. Même que Kirkpatrick a croisé le fil de reculons.

Le grand opportuniste fut Roberge. Avec 1 tour à faire il était 8e. Dans l’incident Watson (bris) / Powell (pénalité) l’autre ontarien Shawn McWhirter n’a pu éviter la voiture de Watson et a terminé la course en percutant son confrère de l’ontario.

In the IMCA/Florida Modified and Super Late classes there was so many cautions and even a couple red flags that made the night drag on... officials even cut the sk feature from 30 to 15 lasp.

Vallée Jonction’s Martin Latulippe won and Lévis’ Kevin Roberge finished 3rd in the Crate / Late Model ranks.

Latulippe who started on the pole after some disqualification in post time trial and due to the inversion ran well but wasn’t fast enough to hold back Dalton Zehr and conceded the top spot over.

“We just didn’t have the right gear. The car was welded to the track but the cut off would kick in at the flagman” said Latulippe.

Following post race inspection we would lean that Zehr was using illegal valve springs and was disqualified.

In addition to Zehr, Ontario drivers Brandon Watson and Cole Powell also powered around Latulippe. They even took over the lead of the race. With only a few feet remaining, coming out of turn four, Powell dumped Watson sending him in a spin at the front of the field.

Zehr, Latulippe, Austin Kirkpatrick, Kevin Roberge and Jerick Johnson cross the stat/finish line in that order. Even Kirkpatrick did so going backwards as a spun due to the incident.

The winner from that ordeal was Roberge. Eight with one lap to go he was credited with fourth place when Watson was taken out, Powell diqualified for rough driving, the other Ontario driver Shawn McWhirter was also involved in the incident and dropped to the back of the field as he collected Watson car sitting across the track.

NSS - Night 7 - Sean Bass wins race and title

Sean Bass a remporté la quatrième manche de la classe ASA/Crate Late Model du World Series of Asphalt Racing.  Avec sa victoire il a aussi remporté sont championnat.

Sean Bass won the fourth leg of the ASA/Crate Late Model Championship as part of the World Series of Asphalt Racing.  By virtue of that win it he also clinched the championship.

 

Derrière Bass Autin Kirkpatrick et Patrick Laperle ont complété le podium.

 

Parti de la position de tête Patrick Laperle a mené les 29 premiers tours et avait une avance de 3 secondes sur la voiture en deuxième place.  Après la première neutralisation, Kirkpatrick et Bass ont passé Laperle comme s’il était arrêté.  Laperle ne pouvait plus atteindre les vitesses qu’il atteignait au début.

 

« Quand j’ai entré la courbe trois mon éclaireur m’a avisé qu’il y avait une voiture en dérapage.  Je n’ai jamais pensé que la voiture de Johnson serait en travers de la piste à l’endroit où il était.  Je l’ai à peine touché mais c’étais assez pour fausser l’alignement de la voiture.  J’ai quand même terminé troisième » déclara Laperle visiblement déçu d’avoir vu la victoire lui glisser entre les mains.

 

Kirkpatrick mena l’épreuve jusqu’au 44e passage, lorsque Bass là doublé, un tour avant que James Novak a fait sortir le second ralentissement de la course.

 

À la relance, Bass a demeuré en tête de l’épreuve, mais une troisième neutralisation est venu ralentir ses ardeurs.  Les voitures de Stephan Nass et Kurt Jett ont fait contact sur la ligne arrière.

 

Avec 5 tours à faire, Bass a demeuré en tête de l’épreuve avec Kirkpatrick et Laperle terminant respectivement deuxième et troisième.

 

Behind Bass and completing the podium were Austin Kirkpatrick and Patrick Laperle. 

 

Starting on the pole Patrick Laperle lead all first 29 circuits stretching his lead by as much as 3 seconds over second place car.  Following the caution, at the restart, Kirkpatrick and Bass drove around Laperle like if he was stopped.  Laperle could not get the car up to speed like did before in the race.

 

“I was entering turn 3 my spotter called it.  I never expected Johnson to be sideways in the power lane.  I barely touched him but knocked the toe out and my handling was way off.  I hung on to third” said a disappointed Laperle after the race.

 

Kirkpatrick would go on leading the event until lap 44, when Bass went around him, a complete lap before James Novak brought out the second caution. 

 

On the restart Bass stayed in the lead, but the caution was brought out right away for contact between the Stephan Nasse and Kurt Jett.

 

With 5 laps to go, Bass stayed in the lead with Kirpatrick finishing second and Laperle coming in third.

 

Puisque la dernière manche du championnat était prévue le 2010-02-12 et annulé par la pluie, la victoire de Bass lui a donné juste assez de point pour le couronner champion 2010 (50 bonus + 36 + 24 + 28 + 40 = 178) devant Laperle (50 bonus + 32 + 4 + 40 + 32 = 158), Dustin Delaney (50 bonus + 24 + 36 + 32 + 12 = 154), Stephan Nasse (50 bonus + 40 + 40 + 16 + 4 = 150) et Brandon Johnson (50 bonus + 28 + 28 + 16 +4 = 146).

 

L’ontarien Brandon Watson a terminé au dixième rang du classement cumulatif (Bonus 50 + 0 + 4 + 20 + 16)

 

Terminant avec 66 points au treizième rang les canadiens Shaun McWhirter et Wayne Smith.

 

Il a terminé au vingtième rang avec 58 points Donnie Varcoe.

 

Cole Powell quand à lui a terminé au vingt-cinquième rang avec 16 points.

 

L’édition 2010  des World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing concluent demain soir avec le Richie Evans Memorial 100 tours pour les voitures modifiées d’asphalte et le Pete Orr Memorial 100 pour les Super Late dans lequel le québécois Kevin Roberge prendra part.

Because the last event of the Championship, scheduled for 2010-02-12 was cancelled due to rain, Bass’ win gave him just enough points to clinch the championship (50 bonus + 36 + 24 + 28 + 40 = 178) ahead of Laperle (50 bonus + 32 + 4 + 40 + 32 = 158), Dustin Delaney (50 bonus + 24 + 36 + 32 + 12 = 154), Stephan Nasse (50 bonus + 40 + 40 + 16 + 4 = 150) and Brandon Johnson (50 bonus + 28 + 28 + 16 +4 = 146).

 

Ontario driver Brandon Watson finished tenth in the overall standing (Bonus 50 + 0 + 4 + 20 + 16).

 

Scoring 66 points and getting scored in thirteen were canadians Shaun McWhirter and Wayne Smith.

 

Scored twentieth with 58 points is Donnie Varcoe.

 

Cole Powell was scored twenty-fifth with sixteen points.

 

The 2010 edition of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing concludes tomorrow with the Richie Evans Memorial 100 laps and the Pete Orr Memorial 100 for Super Late Models in which quebec driver Kevin Roberge will race.

FW: UPDATE: 2010-02-10 - Race recap


Patrick Laperle scores his first 2010 win.
Une première victoire pour Patrick Laperle en 2010.

Il aura fallu attendre à la troisième compétition pour voir Patrick Laperle remporter une manche du championnat ASA/Crate Late Models dans le cadre des World Series of Asphalt Late Model Racing.

Fans had to wait for the third ASA/Crate Late Model race to see Patrick Laperle win a leg of the World Series of Asphalt Late Model Racing Championship.

Laperle a pris le départ de la 15e place et en moins de sept tours il avait remonté jusqu’en 4e place effectuant des dépassements tant à l’intérieur, qu’à l’extérieur.   Au terme des 25 tours, derrière Laperle Brandon Johnson et Dustin Delaney ont complété le podium.

 

Laperle who took the start from 15th position was up to fourth in less than 7 laps passing cars on the inside and on the outside.  At the conclusion of the 25 laps, just behind Laperle, Brandon Johnson and Dustin Delaney completed the podium.

« De rebondir avec une victoire après la piètre performance de lundi est très très bon pour le moral de toute l’équipe.  Nous avions une voiture très performante ce soir et nous avons été opportuniste » déclara Patrick Laperle après la finale.

 

Il aura fallu près de 90 minutes à l’équipe de Ricky Brooks pour passer la voiture de Laperle au peigne fin.  Vérifications usuelles : poids, empattement, largeur, conformité de la carrosserie, etc.  Mais en plus, dureté des pneumatiques, analyse et comparaison de l’arbre de cam à celui d’un moteur de référence à l’aide d’une ordinateur et de senseur électroniques.  À la fin, tout était conforme.

 

« Considérant que dans chacune des classes il y a eu des disqualifications c’était à ce demandé s’il ne trouverait pas une zone grise que l’ont avait mal interprété.  Mais il nous a donné la confirmation que tout était conforme » ajouta Laperle.

 

Vendredi dernier Brandon Watson avait perdu la 3e place pour de l’essence non conforme.  Lundi dernier les cinq premiers de la classe Super Late avaient été disqualifié pour des pneus trop mous et le vainqueur de la classe ASA/Crate, Autin Kirkpatrick, disqualifié pour ne plus avoir la « chip » dans la boîte d’allumage électronique.

 

“To rebound with a win after the poor showing we had on Monday is very very good for the team morale.  We had a very performant car tonight and we used it to our advantage” said Laperle after the race.

 

It took close to 90 minutes for Ricky Brooks and his team to go over Laperle’s car in inspection.  Usual things like Weight, thread width, wheel base, body silhouette, etc.  But this time they checked tires, measured and analyzed the cam shaft against specifications using a computer and electronic measurement tools.  And at the end everything passed.

 

“Considering all the disqualifications in everyone of the classes, I got thinking that he may have different interpretation of rules than we did.  But everything checked out good and he gave us the thumbs up” added Laperle.

 

Last Friday Brandon Watson lost third place for illegal engine.  Monday the first five finishers in the Super Late Models were disqualified for tires too soft and the ASA/Crate Late Models winner, Austin Kirkpatrick, was disqualified for not having his rev limiter chip installed in the electronic ignition system.

 

Après l’épreuve Laperle accuse un retard de 40 points sur Stephan Nasse le meneur au classement et est au cinquième rang du classement.  Rien d’insurmontable, mais il ne reste que deux manches et une d’elle est à risque pour la pluie.  Il faudra que Nasse ne termine pas dans le top 9 d’une ou des deux épreuves pour que Laperle soit couronné champion.

 

L’ontarien Brandon Watson a aussi connu une très belle soirée, parti de la 18e place il a remonté jusqu’à sixième place.  Avec cette belle performance Watson est maintenant au neuvième rang du classement général.

 

Shaun McWhiter a terminé quatorzième dans l’épreuve et le classe treizième au classement général.

 

Donnie Varcoe, Wayne Smith sont quinzième et seizième respectivement au classement.

 

Tandis que Cole Powell est au vingt-cinquième rang.

 

Les pilotes sont de retour en piste jeudi soir pour un finale de 50 tours.  Prévue pour vendredi, elle est devancée à cause de la pluie qui menace pour vendredi.

 

Post race championship standing shows that Laperle is 40 points out of first place, held by Stephan Nasse, and sits in fifth place of the championship standing.  Nothing that can’t be overcome but with only two rounds left and one of them threatened by rain Laperle will need for Nasse to finish outside the top 9 in one or both of the races to be crowned champion.

 

Ontario driver Brandon Watson also had a very good night.  Started 18th and finished 16th.  With this performance Watson climbed up to ninth in championship standing.

 

Shaun McWhiter finished thirteen in the race and is also thirteen in championship standing.

 

Donnie Varcoe, Wayne Smith are respectively fifthteen and sixteen in championship standing.

 

Meanwhile Cole Powell is twenty-fifth in the standing.

 

The drivers are back in competition on Thursday night were they will race a 50 lap segment.  Initially planned for Friday track officials pulled it ahead by a day because of the threathing rain forecasted for Friday.
