ACT at Lee USA Speedway Rescheduled

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                             ACT-051110-29

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) recently announced that the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 originally scheduled for April 18 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH has been rescheduled for Friday, June 11. The event was originally scheduled as the 2010 ACT season opener but was postponed due to rain. It will be the 8th ACT Late Model Tour event ever held at the 1/3-mile speedway and the 3rd event of the 2010 ACT season.

ACT teams will have a challenge in racing with the Lee regulars, who have gained experience in the longer distance ACT races over the years. The Lee contingent will be led by defending champ and current point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH. Helliwell has already scored two wins in the first two events at Lee in 2010 and is currently leading the Ford Blue Oval Cup Challenge.

ACT favorites include past Lee winners Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who won the 2008 NH Gov Cup, and Jean-Paul Cyr, winner of a 2005 Lee event. Defending and six-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar has never won an ACT event at Lee but has to be considered a favorite as he currently sits atop the ACT point standings. Other contenders include Scott Payea, who has two third place finishes in five career starts at Lee, Brent Dragon, John Donahue, Randy Potter, Jamie Fisher, and Glen Luce among others.

Before ACT teams can look ahead to the NH Governor’s Cup, they will have to battle in this Sunday’s (May 16) 150 lap event at Oxford Plains Speedway (OPS) in Oxford, ME. The 1/3-mile speedway has become a favorite among drivers because of its multiple grooves and three wide action. Over forty teams are expected to fight for the thirty starting spots. Over $25 grand in purse will be up for grabs along with the second invitation to the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 18. Post time this Sunday, May 16 at OPS is set for 2pm.

Circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway

MARIO PAGE IS "SUPER" IN SPEEDSTR WIN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

Myerstown, PA - May 9, 2010 - "Super" Mario Page of Hillsborough, NJ enters victory lane in only his second SpeedSTR appearance.

Doug Rose of Syracuse, NY drew the pole after winning the second Valvoline dash earlier in the day with Don Zrinski (Piscataway, NJ) who set fast time lining up second to bring the exciting STR field to the green. Rose would set the early pace, pulling out to a healthy lead as Page worked his way into second from fourth starting position. By the halfway point the track began to take rubber in the lower groove as Rose continued to lead running the upper line over Page and the Johnny Muffler 28 of DJ Macri (Waretown, NJ) when the first caution flew. On the ensuing restart Page darted under Rose to take command of the STR feature event. Rose quickly dropped down to the hub and got on Page's rear bumper with Macri close behind. Meanwhile the action mid pack was intense with Tyler Potts (Milford, NJ) who had made his way up to the fourth position after starting tenth on the grid was battling with Gary Huber (Riverdale, NJ) who started from the tail of the STR field.

The front three of Page, Rose, and Macri continued to set the pace. Potts would eventually get by Macri on a restart and set his sights on Rose. Page pulled out to a 3 car advantage as Potts pressured Rose for second. The two would make contact, with Rose going around on lap 22.

The following restart saw 2009 SpeedSTR National Champion, Billy VanInwegen move into fourth with Kyle Hieber (Langhorne, PA) the previous STR feature winner cracking the top 5. As the STR's came for the white flag, Page would lead comfortably, but Hieber, Huber, and the Kiwi Farms 33 of Doug Sherwood (Piscataway, NJ) were all battling for the 5th position. The three would make contact entering turn one with Rose and Zrinski looking for room by, but all competitors kept control and continued down the backstretch. Hieber would grab the hard fought fifth position. Page led the pack to the $800.00 checkered flag, followed by Potts, Macri, VanInwegen, and Hieber.

STR notes: The 14 year old Rahmer boys, Freddie Jr. and Brandon both were on hand in their SpeedSTR's this weekend. Freddie Jr. pitted mid race with a right rear flat and Brandon came home a solid 9th in his STR début.

17 SpeedSTR's were on hand at Grandview Speedway. The division continues to grow each and every season.

Pro All Stars Series news: PASS South Wake County race report

For Immediate Release: Media, contact Norm Desjardins

Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South super late model regular Justin Wakefield survived a wild finish to capture Friday nights’ Capitol City Clash 150 at Raleigh North Carolina’s Wake County Speedway.  Wakefield took the lead away from Ryan Lawler with just two laps to go. Lawler hung tough in second, with series point leader Preston Peltier third. Home track hero Alex Fleming raced home fourth and Heath Hindman completed the top five.

The victory was Wakefield’s fourth in PASS South competition. His last win came in July of 2009 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

For the most part the field kept their cool as the laps clicked away, running a hard but patient race until the checkered flag was in sight. Just five caution flags slowed the first 144 laps.. Then came caution number six,  and the restart produced  the kind of craziness only a tight bullring like Wake County Speedway can create.

Preston Peltier and Ryan Lawler led the field to the green  and it looked like Peltier might be able to extend his PASS South win streak to three. Peltier seemed to have Lawler cleared but a nudge from behind had Peltier, Lawler and Ryan Blaney three wide and the field stacked up behind them. The caution flew and when the dust cleared the front five was shaken up considerably. Lawler now had the lead with Blaney second, John Stancill third, Justin Wakefield fourth and Alex Fleming fifth.  When the green flew again Lawler led and Blaney tried to dive to the bottom but he hadn’t quite cleared Stancill. The resultant crash ended Blaney’s night. Andy Loden suffered race ending damage trying to avoid the wreck.

The running order with four to go was Lawler in the lead with Wakefield up to second, Stancill third, Peltier back up to fourth and Alex Fleming fifth.  The front pair drag raced into turn one, and Wakefield took over the lead for good on lap 148 Stancill was later penalized for gaining spots on the track under caution; he was listed as eighth (last car on the lead lap) at the finish.

In addition to Wakefield, Peltier and Lawler, Jay Fogleman and Devin Jones each had a turn at the front of the field early on.  While Fogleman only led a single lap, Jones led over thirty before handing over the lead to Lawler.

Andy Loden earned his second pole award of the season with a fast lap of 12.888 seconds around the .23 mile oval, just a tick faster than Devin Jones ‘ 12.901 .Ryan Blaney (12.904) Ryan Lawler(12.945) Jimmy Weller (12.971) completed the fast five.

PASS South takes a break until May 29th when the OLD Glory 150 will mark the series return to Concord (NC) Speedway. Tickets to the OLD GLORY 150 ARE FREE. A $10.00 parking fee is the only charge, but you must have a ticket for free grandstand admittance. Print yours now at www.proallstarsseries.com or www.concordmotorsportspark.com .

ACT - MERCHANT'S BANK 150

Last Sunday, May 2nd, after postponements of both Lee USA and Albany-Saratoga events, ACT competitors finally sent off their 2010 season when they raced at Thunder Road (Barre, VT).

The Merchant's Bank 150, a 150 lap event, was won by young Nick Sweet.

A Thunder Road winner in local Thunder Road late model events, he was crowned the 2008 rookie of the year driver posted his first career ACT Tour victory with his win.

"We took the green in twelfth spot and worked our way to the front passing cars one by one. Our car was great and we never had to push the limits" said Sweet.

With this win Sweet becomes the first qualified driver for the ACT Invitational which will be held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in September.

Dave Pembrooke led the first 80 circuits before having to deal with Patrick Laperle who assumed the top spot for 15 laps (circuits 81 to 96). Pembrooke finished fourth just behind Laperle who rounded out the podium with a third place finish.

"I thought I had the right strategy. We started outside pole and took the lead away from Scott Payea and just ran away. It worked in the past, but not this time. Obviously, Nick had the best car here today and he deserved to win" said Pembrooke.

Brian Hoar, a six time ACT Champion and the defending ACT Champion, took the green outside of Sweet in thirteenth position. Just like Sweet methododically passed cars one by one to finish on the second step of the podium.

"I was hoping for a caution with 10 or 15 to go. I know I saved the car and the tires to give Nick a good run for his money. But it never came, I tried to put on the pressure and force him into a mistake but he never budged and had the best car. He deserved this win. The first in his young career, despite that he drove like a veteran and it's a true testament that he is a future champion" said Hoar.

Sweet assume the lead for the first time at the 111 lap. Pembrooke retook the lead right away, but Sweet fought back and reclaimed it right away to never let it go, leading laps 113 to 150.

There were only two Canadian competitors at the track: Patrick Laperle of St-Denis-sur-richelieu, Quebec and Derek Lynch of Warkworth, Ontario.

Laperle finished third after leading 15 laps and was visibly tired from his race.

"Its my new Hanley car. It was the first time we raced it since Loudon. She is only in her second race and my seat was not right for short track racing. I had to restrain my head from being pushed past the seat. It drained all my energy" said Laperle.

We need to point out that the Quebec competitor's team had to deal, with the help of Bran Latouche, with a serious electrical problem. The problem even sidelined the team during the traditional pre-race ceremonies.

"The car would skip and quit. During our heat race it kept skipping and we could not race our way into the feature then. In the consi, just as we were about to go green it skipped again. It drove me nuts. But it was ok during the race and we made the show. It was never a factor in the feature race.

Considering the calibre of the racers and the fact that the eventual winner Nick Sweet also had to go thru the consi to make the show, it makes our result that much sweeter. It's still a race I would like to win as it is one of the few prestigious races that elude my record book" declared Laperle.

Meanwhile Derek Lynch took the green flag in seventh starting position and seemed en route to a great finish until he had to deal with a leaking tire.

"We only found the leak after the event was completed and it cost us some positions. Our goal was to make the show and earn 100% ACT Status, which we did. Considering the calibre of the racers here we are proud of what our team has accomplished this weekend. In the next couple of events (Plattsburgh and Oxford) we will not be as disadvantaged as we were to local Thunder Road racers" said Lynch who is returning to full time ACT competition after spending the last few years on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in Canada.

Thirteen drivers failed to make the cut and race in the event. Among them John Donahue, Dave Withcomb, Wayne Helliwell Jr and Jay Laquerre.

This weekend the tour moves on to Airborne in Plattburgh, NY just south of the Canado-American border.

Many Quebec drivers should join the group of competitors including Karl Allard, Donald Theetge, Claude Leclerc, Steve Côté (making his first late model start), the Decoste and Lacombe brothers.

Derek White - Camping World Trucks in Kansas

Derek White of Kahnawake, QC was attempting this weekend to qualify for his third NASCAR Truck Camping World Series (used to be the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series) start in Kansas.

A regular on the ACT Castrol and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series fronts, he unfortunately was not able to turn a lap fast enough to lock himself in the 36 truck starting field.

“We got here with a good truck, but its a short track truck. Meanwhile the others came here with Super Speedway trucks. We had to deal with the aero handicap which made us some 10 mph slower than others on the straight aways” said White a few minutes after the last trucks had completed their qualifying runs.

If Derek White was visibly disappointed with tonight’s performance, he is already looking ahead. One thing he is looking forward is the road race class he will attend in Las Vegas. Povided by Ron Fellows i

DEVIL'S BOWL SPEEDWAY OPENS THUNDER ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP CHASE

For Immediate Release TR – 042710-26

Waterbury, VT – There will be a new challenge for the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Thunder Road Late Model teams when they begin pursuit of the 2010 “King of the Road” title in 2010. With the announcement of the Sunday, May 23rd opening event at the newly renovated and paved Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Fair Haven, VT, the ACT Late Models from Thunder Road have been invited to compete at the historic speedway. It will be the first point-counting event of the season for the Thunder Road Late Models.

It all started with the announcement by the Champlain Valley Racing Association (CVRA) in the fall of 2009. The Richards family ownership intended to redesign both their dirt tracks for the 2010 racing season, converting them to asphalt. Sister track Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, NY was completed late last fall, and Devil’s Bowl expects to have pavement down the first week of May. It was a natural for the most popular asphalt Late Model division in the Northeast to join in the opening day celebration at Devil’s Bowl.

“We had already committed to run the ACT Late Model Tour at the Malta track, and with the increase of ACT US events, we were in some kind of bind when we found out Devil’s Bowl was also going to go through a conversion to asphalt, “ said Tom Curley, President of ACT. “We very much wanted to be a part of the Devil’s Bowl program, and the Thunder Road group of Late Model racers have all had plenty of ‘touring type’ experience over the years, so this became very doable. There are a lot of excited teams to be able to open the big ½ mile, and that is good for Devil’s Bowl and for asphalt racing in the region,” Curley concluded.

Three-time Thunder Road Champion, Cris Michaud from Williamstown, VT likes the new twist on having Thunder Road points awarded toward the 2010 Championship. “I think it is kind of neat that we get to open the new track. It will certainly be a change from the high-banked ¼ mile to the relatively flat half mile, but it should be fun. Our team is looking forward to the challenge,” said Michaud.

The 100-lap event will be a Devil’s Bowl traditional Sunday early evening ‘twilight’ race for the opening of the new facility. “We wanted to make sure we scheduled it early enough so that the traveling teams and fans that come and support our opening at Devil’s Bowl can get home at a reasonable hour Sunday evening,” said Jerry Richards, a CVRA partner and General Manager at Devil’s Bowl.

On Sunday, May 23, 2010, Front gates will open at 11:00 and racing will begin at 2:00 for the grand opening of the new Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Admission for the ACT Thunder Road Late Model 100 lap event is only $15 for Adults and Kids are free of charge. All the regular Devil’s Bowl divisions will also begin their season opening day.

FORD BLUE OVAL CHALLENGE WINNERS SHARE BUMPS UP TO $5000

For Immediate Release ACT – 042710-27

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that the highly anticipated Ford Blue Oval Challenge winner’s share of the overall point fund has been increased from $3,000 up to $5,000 to win. A lucrative Ford contingency program was announced late last fall for the teams on both the ACT US and Castrol programs. Also, all Ford teams running at approved affiliate ACT tracks will be eligible to receive bonus money in the Blue Oval Challenge Cup portion of the overall program. Mike Delahanty, the Program Manager-Sportsman Circle Track Racing for the Ford Racing Technology Division of Ford Racing, announced last February the program for ACT Ford competitors. It is one of the richest contingency programs in the history of ACT with over $35,000 up for grabs among the region’s Ford crate teams.

“I know all the Ford teams that are associated with ACT are very appreciative of the support Ford Racing has given those teams that are supporting them,” said ACT President Tom Curley. “We have at least 10 teams that will be receiving points for this program in the 2010 season in both Tour racing and weekly racing. The jump from $3,000 to win the inaugural Blue Oval Challenge Cup to $5,000 certainly speaks to Ford’s commitment to short track racing in our region,” finished Curley.

Over the past couple of years, the Ford-powered S347JR was researched and developed by Ford racing with assistance from Butler & MacMaster Engines from Hallowell, ME. “We are excited to be part of the ACT Ford racing program,” said Dave MacMaster, the chief architect and the single individual most responsible for the 10-year success of the ACT GM type crate revolution, which has now become popular across the entire country. “When you look at the high caliber ACT teams that have taken on the Ford crates going into 2010, I think that is a very healthy sign for short track racing in our neck of the woods,” concluded MacMaster.

High profile teams like three-time Thunder Road Speedbowl Champion Cris Michaud from Williamstown, VT and fellow Vermonter, 50-year veteran Joey Laquerre from Barre, VT, will be joined by young superstar Joey Polewarczyk from Hudson, NH, and Lee USA defending track champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. from Dracut MA. Also making the switch to Ford in 2010 are two former Maine champions, Glen Luce from Turner and noted car builder and nine-time Oxford Plains Champion Jeff Taylor from Norridgewock.

This Sunday the 12th Annual Merchants Bank 150 opens the ACT and Thunder Road 2010 seasons. The Ford teams will get their first chance to pick up a $500 dollar Ford bonus with a win, and they can make history as the first Ford ever to win an ACT Tour event--- (Michaud won the first ever ACT Ford crate feature race at Thunder Road during the 2009 season). Posted awards total over $27,000 and over 60 teams from throughout the northeast and provinces of Ontario and Quebec are expected to attempt to qualify for thirty starting spots.

The winner will also be the first of the year to earn an invitation to compete at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the second ACT Invitational over the NASCAR Cup Chase weekend in September. Class day begins at 1:00 with post time scheduled for 1:30.

For additional information contact the ACT office at 802.244.6963, www.acttour.com, or media@acttour.com.

Delaware Speedway back in action this weekend with exciting Enduro!

“The weapon of choice is a sledgehammer and a big roll of duct tape”

For Immediate Release

April 28, 2010 (London, Ontario): “For a first-timer it’s like stepping onto the surface of the moon!”

Delaware Speedway’s John Houghton is talking about the Transmission Direct Enduro division. It’s

stock-car racing, to be sure, but there are enough twists in the rule books to take the experience up to

warp speed. One of the main elements that sets Enduro apart from the other racing divisions is the

sheer number of cars on the track.

“There are usually 60-80 cars out there”, explains Houghton. “There is no cap on how many cars can be

out at the same time. We believe it’s the largest V-8 Enduro race in Canada. “

And after the green flag, Houghton says it’s survival of the fittest in the 150 lap main event on May first.

“A lot of them burn out in the first 30 laps or so due to mechanical failures. There are no yellow caution

flags. If there’s a wreck, and as long as the driver isn’t in danger, it’s a judgment call that the race

continues. Sometimes the car stays on the track as an obstacle, depending on where it is. If a driver’s

door is open or something and it’s dangerous, they’ll call a red flag and stop the race completely until

it’s cleaned up.”

The operative word in Enduro is “endurance”. Later in the season there will be 200 lap races.

Saturday’s 150 lap feature will be preceded by two heats of 50 laps each earlier in the day. With so

many cars on the ½ mile track, Houghton has some advice for spectators who are trying to keep them all straight.

“Bring an FM receiver and headphones to listen to the PA/announcer feed on 89.1 FM. Sometimes the

drivers are separated by well over a lap – sometimes a lot of laps - and there’s racing going on anywhere on the track. We’re keeping on top of all of that in the tower. Binoculars are important too because there’s action on the track and in the infield. If a driver pulls into the pits and they’re undergoing repairs they don’t have a lot of time to do it. So the weapon of choice is a sledgehammer and a big roll of duct tape. It can get pretty entertaining when they just want to get back out there and finish in the money!”

As for whom to keep an eye on, Houghton suggests picking three or four guys or gals and making them

your focus. “Number 64, Steve Book out of Brantford has an orange roof. He’s easy to spot and he’s very successful. Some of these guys, it’s as if the traffic parts to let them through, they’re so good at it.”

Last season the top four spots in the Transmission Direct Enduro class were taken up by two sets of

brothers; David and Don Goertz from Arkona and David and Derek McCullough out of Glencoe. The

family rivalries are all part of the fun.

After Saturday’s opening with both Transmission Direct Enduro and the Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars, Delaware’s Friday-night schedule kicks off May 7th with NASCAR Late Models, Super Stocks and Demar Aggregates Trucks. The season has been a long time coming and Houghton says for the firsttimer, Transmission Direct Enduro packs a lot of action. “There’s so much to see! And with Enduro, you see what you want to see!”
