2011-02-17 - nss - night 7

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – La septième soirée de compétition dans le cadre des World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing en sera une à oublier pour les deux québécois… tandis que deux ontariens terminent 1 et 2 en Crate / Late Models.

 

L’ontarien Shaun McWhirter qui est parti de la position de tête aura mené de fil en fil. Cole Powell a terminé deuxième et Nathan Russell troisième.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla – Night seven in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing is one to be forgotten by the two Quebec competitors... meanwhile a couple Ontario drivers celebrate with a 1-2 finish in the Crate / Late Model ranks.

 

Shaun McWhirter who started on the pole led flag to flag.  He was followed across the line by fellow Ontario driver Cole Powell and Nathan Russell finished third.

 

Martin Lautilippe qui partait deuxième dans la finale de 25 tours a bien fait pour la première moitié de l’épreuve demeurant en deuxième place.  Cependant la tenue de route de la voiture #84 s’est dégradée et Latulippe a rétrogradé jusqu’au neuvième rang.

 

Du côté de Kevin Roberge, qui partait sixième, ce ne fut guère mieux, il n’a jamais montré la puissance qu’il avait lors des autres épreuves.  Roberge a terminé sixième.

Martin Latulippe started on the outside of row ran very well for the first half of the 25 lap feature, but his handling went away for the second half and fell back in the in the field finishing a disappointing ninth place.

 

Kevin Roberge, who was sixth on the starting grid, didn’t fare much better.  He could not move up in the field and show that same strength he did on previous nights and finished sixth.

 

Une heure après que le tech soit fermé, les deux québécois demeuraient les deux seules équipes toujours à la piste.

 

Du côté de Roberge le champion ARCA et pilote de camionnette Mario Gosselin s’affairait du côté de la suspension avant pour y trouver un bris ou un désalignement.

 

Du côté de Latulippe ont a trouvé un problème d’attache de barre antiroulis et ont remplaçait les ressorts de valve de moteur.

 

Latulippe qui menait au classement par 38 points avant l’épreuve sur Roberge aura vu son avance fondre à 24 points. 

 

Le classement est donc : Latullipe 230 pts, Roberge 206pts, Jerick Johnson 202 pts, Zach Germain 154pts, Nathan Russell 150 pts.

One hour after tech was closed the two Quebec teams were the only ones left in the pits.

 

In the Roberge camp ARCA Champ and Truck Driver Mario Gosselin was checking out the front end of the car for a possible break or misalignment.

 

Meanwhile a couple hundread feet further Latulippe found a problem with the sway bar that was binding the suspension and work to replace valve spring had just begun.

 

Latulippe who came in as the points leader by 38 points over Roberge saw his lead reduced to only 24 points.

 

The leaderboard after the event is now: Latullipe 230 pts, Roberge 206pts, Jerick Johnson 202 pts, Zach Germain 154pts, Nathan Russell 150 pts.

 

La dernière course du championnat Crate / Late Model sera disputée ce soir, un 50 tours, en marge du Richie Evans Memorial un 100 tours pour les Tour Type Modifieds.

NSS - Night 7 - Sean Bass wins race and title

Sean Bass a remporté la quatrième manche de la classe ASA/Crate Late Model du World Series of Asphalt Racing.  Avec sa victoire il a aussi remporté sont championnat.

Sean Bass won the fourth leg of the ASA/Crate Late Model Championship as part of the World Series of Asphalt Racing.  By virtue of that win it he also clinched the championship.

 

Derrière Bass Autin Kirkpatrick et Patrick Laperle ont complété le podium.

 

Parti de la position de tête Patrick Laperle a mené les 29 premiers tours et avait une avance de 3 secondes sur la voiture en deuxième place.  Après la première neutralisation, Kirkpatrick et Bass ont passé Laperle comme s’il était arrêté.  Laperle ne pouvait plus atteindre les vitesses qu’il atteignait au début.

 

« Quand j’ai entré la courbe trois mon éclaireur m’a avisé qu’il y avait une voiture en dérapage.  Je n’ai jamais pensé que la voiture de Johnson serait en travers de la piste à l’endroit où il était.  Je l’ai à peine touché mais c’étais assez pour fausser l’alignement de la voiture.  J’ai quand même terminé troisième » déclara Laperle visiblement déçu d’avoir vu la victoire lui glisser entre les mains.

 

Kirkpatrick mena l’épreuve jusqu’au 44e passage, lorsque Bass là doublé, un tour avant que James Novak a fait sortir le second ralentissement de la course.

 

À la relance, Bass a demeuré en tête de l’épreuve, mais une troisième neutralisation est venu ralentir ses ardeurs.  Les voitures de Stephan Nass et Kurt Jett ont fait contact sur la ligne arrière.

 

Avec 5 tours à faire, Bass a demeuré en tête de l’épreuve avec Kirkpatrick et Laperle terminant respectivement deuxième et troisième.

 

Behind Bass and completing the podium were Austin Kirkpatrick and Patrick Laperle. 

 

Starting on the pole Patrick Laperle lead all first 29 circuits stretching his lead by as much as 3 seconds over second place car.  Following the caution, at the restart, Kirkpatrick and Bass drove around Laperle like if he was stopped.  Laperle could not get the car up to speed like did before in the race.

 

“I was entering turn 3 my spotter called it.  I never expected Johnson to be sideways in the power lane.  I barely touched him but knocked the toe out and my handling was way off.  I hung on to third” said a disappointed Laperle after the race.

 

Kirkpatrick would go on leading the event until lap 44, when Bass went around him, a complete lap before James Novak brought out the second caution. 

 

On the restart Bass stayed in the lead, but the caution was brought out right away for contact between the Stephan Nasse and Kurt Jett.

 

With 5 laps to go, Bass stayed in the lead with Kirpatrick finishing second and Laperle coming in third.

 

Puisque la dernière manche du championnat était prévue le 2010-02-12 et annulé par la pluie, la victoire de Bass lui a donné juste assez de point pour le couronner champion 2010 (50 bonus + 36 + 24 + 28 + 40 = 178) devant Laperle (50 bonus + 32 + 4 + 40 + 32 = 158), Dustin Delaney (50 bonus + 24 + 36 + 32 + 12 = 154), Stephan Nasse (50 bonus + 40 + 40 + 16 + 4 = 150) et Brandon Johnson (50 bonus + 28 + 28 + 16 +4 = 146).

 

L’ontarien Brandon Watson a terminé au dixième rang du classement cumulatif (Bonus 50 + 0 + 4 + 20 + 16)

 

Terminant avec 66 points au treizième rang les canadiens Shaun McWhirter et Wayne Smith.

 

Il a terminé au vingtième rang avec 58 points Donnie Varcoe.

 

Cole Powell quand à lui a terminé au vingt-cinquième rang avec 16 points.

 

L’édition 2010  des World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing concluent demain soir avec le Richie Evans Memorial 100 tours pour les voitures modifiées d’asphalte et le Pete Orr Memorial 100 pour les Super Late dans lequel le québécois Kevin Roberge prendra part.

Because the last event of the Championship, scheduled for 2010-02-12 was cancelled due to rain, Bass’ win gave him just enough points to clinch the championship (50 bonus + 36 + 24 + 28 + 40 = 178) ahead of Laperle (50 bonus + 32 + 4 + 40 + 32 = 158), Dustin Delaney (50 bonus + 24 + 36 + 32 + 12 = 154), Stephan Nasse (50 bonus + 40 + 40 + 16 + 4 = 150) and Brandon Johnson (50 bonus + 28 + 28 + 16 +4 = 146).

 

Ontario driver Brandon Watson finished tenth in the overall standing (Bonus 50 + 0 + 4 + 20 + 16).

 

Scoring 66 points and getting scored in thirteen were canadians Shaun McWhirter and Wayne Smith.

 

Scored twentieth with 58 points is Donnie Varcoe.

 

Cole Powell was scored twenty-fifth with sixteen points.

 

The 2010 edition of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing concludes tomorrow with the Richie Evans Memorial 100 laps and the Pete Orr Memorial 100 for Super Late Models in which quebec driver Kevin Roberge will race.

UPDATE: 2010-02-08 - post practice P Laperle comments

The Laperle father & son combo only had maintenance work and a right door sticker to fix.
Le clan Laperle n'avait que de la maintenance routinière à effectuer et remplacer un auto-collant dans la portière droite.



Les deux sessions de pratiques sont terminées pour la classe ASA/Crate LM. À la fin des sessions les trois plus rapides, tournant des tours similaires, le 11 de Autin Kirkpatrick, le 9ON de Brandon Watson et le 91 de Patrick Laperle.

The two practice sessions are over for the ASA/Crate LM. At the conclusions the three fastest cars, all turning laps tenths from each other, are the 11 of Austin Kirkpatrick, the 9ON of Brandon Watson and the 91 of Patrick Laperle.



Brandon Watson's crew had to drain the fuel tank and change the clutch as it broke some tooth on the gear for the starter.

In addition to his usual sponsors Laperle's car is show casing Hanley Race cars, Shear Metal Products and Hamel Construction.

« La voiture est rapide, mais nous cherchons encore des dixièmes afin d’être encore plus rapide. Nous allons partir la course en 7e place ce qui devrait nous donner une bonne position de départ, malgré que quelques voitures difficile à doubler seront devant nous » déclara Patrick Laperle.

La grille est déterminée par les positions d’arrivé du premier programme (samedi) et une inversion des neuf premiers en fonction de la pige de Sam Bass (le vainqueur).

Les autres canadiens en piste, soit :

Cole Powell partira en 17e place.

Shaun McWhirter en 19e place.

Brandon Sweet en 25e place.

Brandon Watson qui partira de la 27e place puisqu’il a été disqualifié pour avoir utilisé de l’essence non conforme. Il a donc enregistré 0 points au championnat se qui lui rendra la tache très difficile.

Les finales débuteront à 19h30 et le groupe des ASA / Crate Late Model prendra la piste en troisième ce soir (soit vers 21h).

« The car is very fast, but we are still looking for more speed. We will start 7th which is a decent starting position, even with a few cars that are difficult to pass ahead of us.” said Patrick Laperle.

The starting field was determined by the finishing positions of the first night of racing (Saturday) and an inversion of the nine first as drawn by Sam Bass (the winner).

The other canadians in the field are:

Cole Powell who will start 17th.

Shaun McWhirter who will start 19th.

Brandon Sweet who will start 25th.

And Brandon Watson who will start at the rear of the field in 27th, despite finishing third, as he was disqualified for using illegal gaz in the race car. He also score 0 points towards the championship which will make it very difficult to overcome.

The features tonight will start at 19h30 and the ASA/Crate Late Models will take the track as the third group (around 21h).

NEW SMYRNA - WORLD SERIES

Voici un album de 110 photographies des pratiques tenues le 2010-02-04 à New Smyrna Speedway en Floride dans le cadre des World Series of Asphalt Stock Car.

This is a 110 photos album of the practices held on 2010-02-04 at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida as part of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car.


Un fait notable : la quantité de voiture sur place est nettement plus basse que l’an dernier à pareil date. Même chose pour les motorisés.

Ce soir première soirée de compétition. En piste dans la classe ASA/Crate Late Models : Patrick Laperle, Brandon Watson (Ontario), Cole Powell (Ontario), Shaun McWhirter (Ontario), Waynes Charles Smith (Nouvelle-écosse). Du côté des Late Models : Kirk Hooker. Et en Super Late Models : Bruce Gowland (Ontario).

This year the car count and even the quantity of RVs onsite at this time is significantly less than last year at this time.

For tonight’s competition in the ASA/Crate Late Models : Patrick Laperle, Brandon Watson (Ontario), Cole Powell (Ontario), Shaun McWhirter (Ontario), Waynes Charles Smith (Nova Scotia). In the Late Models : Kirk Hooker. And in the Super Late Models : Bruce Gowland (Ontario).
