Roy rockets to 3rd straight Airborne win

South Plattsburgh, NY - Nobody takes it higher and deeper into the third turn at Airborne Speedway than DIRTcar Modified point leader Martin Roy. The Napierville, Quebec driver of the Gamache Trucking No.90 used up some right rear tires with the maneuver earlier in the season, but adjustments have now landed him three consecutive victories. He holds a 16-point lead over defending champion Patrick Dupree with two point races remaining.

 

 Dupree, who started alongside Roy in the sixth row of a 28-car field, got a crack at the winner when the yellow came out with two laps to go, but he couldn’t stay with him when the green was thrown. He closed to Roy’s bumper at the end, but had to settle for second.

 

“My car was too loose, just too loose,” Dupree said. “I couldn’t get to him.” Roy took the lead from early pacesetter Greg Atkins on lap 17 after a red flag for Kris Vernold’s machine. Vernold had just yielded second place to Roy when he hit the tractor tire barrier at the bottom of turn two, broke a spindle and shot off the top of turn two.

 

Dupree sat fourth on the restart, quickly passed Andy Heywood to advance to third and then shot under Atkins for second three laps later.

 

George Foley improved to fourth behind Atkins in the closing laps. Heywood recorded his fourth top-5 finish of the season. Positions 6-10 went to Pat McGrail, Leon Gonyo, Aaron Bartemy, Vince Quenneville and Richard Tisseur.

 

Jamy Begor made the best of some good fortune to secure his first J&S Steel Sportsman win of the season in the Connor Sand Pit/Begor’s Supply No.19. Begor was running fourth when 15-year-old Brandon Atkins’ best race of the season came apart with four laps remaining. Atkins had stayed in the outside lane after finally clearing Shawn Duquette at the front of the field after the pair had raced side by side, swapping the lead for eight circuits.

 

His Northfield Utilities No. 4 got turned around by Howard Stoner, who had just overtaken Duquette for second place. Both cars were sent to the rear. That set the stage for Begor to take over and win by four car-lengths over Bucko Branham. Branham beat Duquette to the line by two feet. Robin Wood was a close fourth, followed by Nick Heywood, Travis Bruno, Jamie Atkins and Danny Sulllivan.

 

“I tried to be in whatever lane was going forward,” Begor said. “The preferred line was the outside. It feels really good to get the win. It’s been a while for me.”

 

Rick Doner of Ausable Forks, the former Mini Modified champion, won a Renegade thriller in a photo finish, besting Joe Warren of West Chazy. Point leader Kevin Boutin was a few feet away in third. Lance Rabtoy and Josh Terry completed the top five. It was Doner’s first career win in the Renegade division.

 

Jason Durivage of West Chazy won the Busch Bomber 25-lap special. Johnmichael Bresette and Dale O’Neil placed second and third.

 

Mini Modified point leader Speedy Bresette denied Erick Sayles’ bid for his sixth win by beating him to the wire for his first win of the season. Kris Clark was third. Josh Laporte and Jamie LaFountain were next in line.

 

The Modifieds will go topless (no roofs) on the progressively-banked Airborne half-mile Saturday, August 27 for the Dick Nephew Memorial presented by Liquor & Wine Warehouse. Also on tap, the make-up of the Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade 50 that was rained out in June.

AIRBORNE : Modified title fight resumes tonight

For Saturday August 20, 2011 AS-081911-1

South Plattsburgh, NY – Ernie’s Discount Tools DIRTcar Modified point leader Martin Roy will try to move closer to the 2011 track championship with his fourth win of the season when the Modifieds return to action at Airborne Speedway tonight at 6 p.m.

 

The Napierville, Quebec driver leads defending champion Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake by 12 points. Tonight’s Plattsburgh Ford/Banker Orchards/Huntley Trucking event is the next-to-last Modified point race of the season. George Foley of Saranac Lake, the 2007 Airborne champion, is still within striking distance, 14 points behind Dupree.

 

A new qualifying procedure for Modifieds begins tonight. A consolation, or “B” feature, will be added to the program and the starting field in the 30-lap main event will be limited to 24 cars. The top five drivers in the point standings - Roy, Dupree, Foley, Andy Heywood and Leon Gonyo - are guaranteed starters.

 

An extra-distance 25-lap feature paying $250-to-win for the 4-cylinder Busch Bombers is scheduled, as well as an appearance by the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers. Kiddie Race Cars Rides begin at 5:30 p.m.

 

The Sportsmen, Renegades and Mini Modifieds will also be in action. Speedy Bresette of Plattsburgh heads up a tight point battle in the Mini Modified division. Bresette leads CJ LaVair of Gabriels 484-476. Five-time feature winner Erick Sayles of Lake Placid trails LaVair by a single point.

 

Grandstands open today at 4 p.m. Qualifying heats begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $12/adults, kids 12 and under admitted free. Members of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOBA) with ID will be admitted at half price.

Kayle Robidoux célèbre en grand

 

Tout une soirée pour le pilote de la voiture # 46, pour célébrer ses 28 ans, il a remporté sa qualification, il a pigé la boule # 1 comme position de départ et remporter sa première victoire de la saison sur le tracé de la rue Cowie.

 

 

Les 4 et 6 Cylindres : Dany Gagné mérite un doublé

 

 

17 voitures ont pris le départ de la première finale de 12 tours, dès le début de la course le # 90 de Dany Gagné prend la position de commande. Quatre drapeaux jaunes ont été nécessaires avant de connaître le vainqueur. Le seul pilote dans la catégorie 6 cylindres qui a complété l’épreuve est Yannick Bouchard (#187). Dany Gagné a remporté la première épreuve devant Joseph Zengerly (#48) et Gabriel Bienvenue (# 109). Lors de la 2e finale de 12 tours, Dany Gagné prend la position de commande au 4e tour, il était parti de l’arrière du peloton de 16 voitures. Au 7e passage, on déploie le drapeau jaune car le pilote du bolide # 31 (Sylvain Bouthillier) roule avec une roue en moins. Dany Gagné a facilement remporté l’épreuve devant Yves Tremblay (#87) et Sébastien Bouvier (#33).La 2e finale 6 Cylindres a été remportée par Alain Tardif ( # 111) devant Yannick Bouchard et Francis Ménard (# 114) .

 

 

Les Pro Stock: Richard Bertrand remporte sa première victoire

 

Normand Voghell (# 3) a remporté la première qualification devant Guy Viens (# 15) et Richard Bertrand (# 08). La deuxième qualification a été l’affaire de Alain Brochu (# 12) devant Bruno Cyr (# 33) et Mario Gagnon (# 47).

17 voitures ont pris le départ de la finale de 30 tours. A la mi-course, une belle lutte pour la 2e position Bruno Cyr résiste à Alain Brochu. Richard Bertrand remporte sa première victoire de la saison devant Bruno Cyr et Alain Brochu. Les pilotes méritaient 50 points chacun lors de la soirée pour ne pas défavoriser les équipes qui suivent la série Dirt, une finale avait lieu à Mohawk Internationnal Speedway.

 

Les Sportsman : Ouellette survole la piste.

 

Steve Nadeau  a été le plus rapide lors de la première séance de qualification devant David Coté (#5)  et  Keven Lajoie (# 27). Lors de la 2e séance, Keven Beaucage (# 45) avait une belle longeur d’avance sur Jonathan Archambault (# 24) et Guy Ouellette (# 07) .

 

23 voitures ont pris le départ de la finale de 30 tours. Au 4e passage, Keven Lajoie  prend la première position sur David Coté. Guy Ouellette prend la 2e position au 7e tour et la pôle position au 8e passage. A la mi-course le bolide # 46 de Daniel Rivard s’immobilise sur le droit arrière, on doit lancer le premier drapeau jaune. À la relance, Steve Nadeau (# 94) réussit difficilement à prendre la 2e position sur Keven Hamel (# 13). Au 20e passage, une deuxième neutralisation est nécessaire après que Yvan Rivard   (# 44) se soit immobilisé dans la courbe # 3. C’est Guy Ouellette qui mérite le drapeau à damier, le podium est complété par Steve Nadeau et Mathieu Boisvert.

 

 

Les Modifié : Soirée plus que parfaite pour Kayle Robidoux.

 

La première qualification a été remportée par Kayle Robidoux (# 46) , loin devant Yan Bussière (#21) et Martin Roy (# 90).  Lors de la 2e qualification, plusieurs amateurs étaient heureux d’applaudir Steve Bernard devant Alex Boisvert (# 95) et Claude Brouillard (# 3). David Hébert (#1) remporte la 3e qualification devant Alain Boisvert (# 73) et Gino Clair (# 22 J).

 

Une pige des 12 premiers lors des qualifications a déterminé les positions de départ pour la finale de 75 tours. Kayle Robidoux qui célébrait son 28e  anniversaire de naissance a mérité la pôle position devant David Hébert. 28 bolides ont pris le départ de la finale. En début de course, Martin Roy  prend la 2e position sur David Hébert. Au 12e tour, Clément Therrien percute le mur entre les courbes #3 et # 4 suite à un ennui mécanique. Dès la relance, Michel Fagnan (# 51) percute le mur sur le droit arrière, Paul St-Sauveur est aussi impliqué dans cet accident. On a été dans l’obligation de sortir le drapeau rouge, heureusement plus de peur que de mal. Au 32e  passage, François Bernier cause un jaune, il roule au ralenti devant la grande estrade. La fumée qui s’échappe laisse présager un problème avec les freins. À la relance Martin Roy met de la pression sur le meneur Kayle Robidoux, on doit retourner sur le drapeau jaune quand le bolide # 88 d’ Éric Lefebvre s’immobilise entre les courbes #  1 et # 2. On doit lancer le drapeau jaune à nouveau au 38e  car Alex Boisvert (# 95) roule au ralenti,il roulait parmi les meneurs. Steve Bernard (#54) réussit a se glisser en 3e position devant plusieurs fans puisque c’est la soirée des Pneus Robert Bernard. Kayle Robidoux ( champion 2008) a été le premier à passer le fil d’arrivée loin devant David Hébert et Steve Bernard. Kayle mérite aussi la position garantie pour la célèbre finale 358 à Syracuse ( NY) en octobre 2010.  La plus belle remontée a été celle de Mario Moreau (#5),  il est parti de l’arrière du peloton pour terminer 16e.

Granby - Soirée Bertrand Godin et Défi Modifié

Les Modifié : Soirée  a oublier pour Jean Boissonneault

 

Beaucoup d’amateurs étaient présents pour assister au retour de Denis ‘ La Peste’ Labonté. Lors du meeting des pilotes, Dominic Lussier (Vice-président, directeur général) a fait un résumé des inspections de la semaine dernière. Les têtes ont été inspectées chez le fabriquant Brodix sur les voitures  de Alain Boisvert, Kayle Robidoux et Martin Roy, tout était conforme. 

 

Lors de la première qualification, Denis Labonté (# 17) a pris le départ en 12e position pour terminer 9e. Kayle Robidoux (# 46) a remporté cette  qualification devant Alain Boisvert (# 73) et Jean Boissonneault (# 61). La 2e qualification a été remportée par Mario Clair (# 22) suivi par Martin Roy (# 90) et Steve Bernard (#54).Brett Hearn avait pris le départ en 9e position pour terminer 5e. La troisième qualification a été l’affaire de Claude Brouillard (# 3) devant François Bernier (# 49)  et David Hébert (# 1). Alain Boisvert a mérité le meilleur temps en Modifié en 2010, 18,921 secondes  lors  de sa séance de qualification.

 

Denis Labonté n’a pas pris le départ de la finale à cause d’un ennui mécanique. 34 voitures se sont élancées au drapeau vert.. Au 8e passage, Kayle Robidoux prend la pôle position sur David Hébert. Au 19e passage Alain Boisvert   cause le premier ralentissement de cette finale, Frédéric Gamache (# 74) doit aussi retourner dans les puits de ravitaillement. Au 20e passage, un 2e drapeau jaune est déployé, les voitures 12, 4K, 97, 39A, 37 et 39 reparte de l’arrière du peloton. Il reste 25 voitures en piste à la mi-course, Kayle Robidoux est le meneur devant David Hébert et Steve Bernard. Au 29e passage, Jean Boissonneault (# 61) perd sa roue avant gauche suite à un contact avec Steve Bernard. Le pilote du bolide # 61( gagnant du 4 juin) avait pris le départ sur la pôle.  A la relance,  un carambolage a la sortie de la courbe  # 1 entre les leader  #46, # 95, #90, # 49, # 3  , Brett the Jet (# 20) réussit a éviter ce carambolage et prend la pole position devant David Hébert et Martin Roy. Mario Clair a percuté au même moment le muret a la sortie de la courbe # 3.Gilles Cusson (signaleur en chef) envoie Martin Roy à l’arrière du peloton pour conduite antisportive Les tours sur le drapeau jaune sont comptabilisés, on repart sur le 41e tour, Hearn est suivi par David Hébert,  Yan Bussière (# 21), Gino Clair (# 22J) et Steve Bernard (# 54).  Il reste 22 bolides en piste. Au drapeau à damier Brett ‘ The Jet Hearn’ est suivi de loin par David Hébert et Yan Bussière. Brett mérite sa 780e victoire à Granby.  Il sera intéressant d’étudier le fonds de points pour la saison 2010 car les 7 premiers au championnat à l’exception de Martin Roy n’ont pas terminé cette épreuve de 50 tours Modifié avec points de championnat.

 

Les Sportsman : Résultats non officiels

 

La première qualification a été remportée par Denis Forgues (#82), il était suivi à la ligne d’arrivée par Keven Beaucage (# 45) et Steve Bernier (#25).Yvan Rivard (# 44)  était suivi par Kevin Lajoie (#  27) et Daniel Rivard (# 46) lors de la 2e qualification. Guy Ouellette (# 07)  avait pris le départ en 5e position il a vite remonté le peloton pour remporter cette 3e qualification devant Dominic Doyon(# 88) et Bruno Lepage (# 90).

23 voitures ont pris le départ de la finale de 25 tours, au 2e passage, on déploie le drapeau jaune, car Jonathan Archambault connaît des ennuis. Au 8e passage, Guy Ouellette (O7) est au ralenti dans la  courbe # 4, le meneur (Bruno Lepage) perd la maîtrise de son véhicule, Keven Beaucage (# 45)  prend la pôle devant 46-88-25-94. Au 14e passage, Keven Hamel est immobilisé dans la courbe #  4, un 3e drapeau jaune est lancé, Beaucage précède Bernier, Doyon, Nadeau et Forgues. A la relance, Steve Bernier prend la pôle sur Beaucage et Nadeau. Au 22e passage, le pilote du bolide # 12 (Jean-Paul Tanguay) cause un 4e ralentissement, il regagne les puits de ravitaillements. Steve Bernier mérite la victoire devant Keven ‘Baby Face ‘ Beaucage et Steve Nadeau. Le pilote du bolide #94 avait pris le départ en 20e position, il mérite la plus belle remontée. Les voitures étaient toujours à l’inspection lors de mon départ de la piste. Suite une inspection exaustive d'une pièce saisie par les inspecteurs, les résultats  seront officialisés mardi le 22 juin 2010.

 

Les Prostock : Roy remporte la victoire à sa première présence à Granby

 

Les qualifications ont été remportées par Bruno Cyr (# 33) et Roland Hébert (# 97).

 

17 voitures ont pris le départ de la finale de 25 tours. Au premier passage Rolland Hébert prend la position de commande sur Frédéric Lussier (# 22). Normand Voghell (# 3) cause le premier drapeau jaune de cette épreuve suite à une crevaison. Le pilote du bolide  # 20 (Francis Landreville) en profite pour visiter les puits, il repart de l’arrière du peloton tout comme Normand Voghell. Au 8e passage c’est Rolland Hébert (# 97) qui mène le bal, il est suivi par Bruno Cyr et Jocelyn Roy (# 05),  très chaude lutte pour la position de commande, trois voitures de large au 10e passage, Roy prend la position de commande sur Bruno Cyr et Rolland Hébert. Au 14e passage, une autre neutralisation causée par Mario Gagnon (# 47)  qui perd le contrôle de son bolide dans la courbe # 4. A la relance, Bruno Cyr mène le bal devant Jocelyn Roy et Roland Hébert. Alain Brochu prend un départ canon, il lutte pour la 2e position. Au 17e passage, Richard Bertrand (# 08) perd une roue sur le droit arrière, Bertrand Godin à bord du bolide 0 roule en 10e position, il avait pris le départ en dernière position. Au 20e passage Jocelyn Roy reprend la position de commande pour filer vers la victoire. Jocelyn était très heureux de cette victoire, c’était sa première visite sur le circuit de la rue Cowie. Il était suivi au drapeau à damier par Bruno Cyr et Roland Hébert.

Tisseur hangs on for Airborne win

South Plattsburgh – Richard Tisseur of Chateauguay, Quebec kept Patrick Dupree at bay - after a caution with seven laps remaining erased his eight car-length lead - and he went on to record his first DIRTcar Modified win on Green Lee Tools/AFLAC Night Saturday at Airborne Speedway.

                After 16 green flag laps began the 30-lap feature, Tisseur took the lead from Vince Quenneville as Andy Heywood, Mike Reyell and Dupree ran 3-4-5. Dupree, seeking his third consecutive win, moved into third on lap 18 and sped around Quenneville for second on lap 20.

 

Tisseur’s winning margin was 15 feet. Heywood finished third well ahead of Quenneville in fourth with Reyell fifth. “I didn’t mind that Patrick was coming after me,” Tisseur said. “That’s the fun of racing.”

Positions 6-10 went to Todd Ormsby, Chad Blair, Leon Gonyo, Mike Wells and Bryant Trim. Craig Reyell had his best run of the season go for naught when he failed to come up to speed for the lap 17 restart while running fourth.

                Bucko Branham worked underneath Jamy Begor with seven laps left and raced off to his second straight J&S Steel Sportsman win.  Shawn Duquette caught Begor for second on the white flag lap. Jim Bushey finished fourth. Tylor Terry completed the top five.

                Lonnie Rivers of Cadyville won the Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade feature. Rivers passed runner-up Robert Gordon on lap 13 of the 25-lap event. Lance Rabtoy of Fairfax, VT placed third.

          Josh Durivage, Curtis LaGrave and Scott Richner finished 1-2-3 in the Monster Energy Bomber feature. Rick Doner of Ausable Forks carried the NAPA Mini-Modified checkers.

          The Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades will go 50 green flag laps in the main event this Saturday, June 19. Post time is 6 p.m.

Airborne Speedway results May 15

Roy Regroups at Airborne

          South Plattsburgh, NY – Martin Roy drew away from the field on a restart with seven laps to go and went on to win the Econo Lodge Modified 30-lap feature convincingly at Airborne Saturday.

          The win was redemption for the 2009 track champion from Napierville, Quebec, who was first to the finish line on opening night, but failed post-race inspection.

          Roy took the lead from Andy Heywood on lap 16 and held it the rest of the way. Heywood, driving the Gioiosa’s Wine & Spirits No. 80, held off Don Scarborough for second.  Patrick Dupree raced from 10th on the starting grid for fourth place. Jason Durgan finished fifth.

 

Twenty-nine Ernie’s Tools DIRTcar Modifieds took the green. Positions 6-10 went to Patrice McGrail, Maxime Viens, Jason Sawyer, Bryant Trim and Mike Reyell. Trim came from18th for his eighth place finish.

The wrecker crews were out twice to pull away cars from the wall. Leon Gonyo backed into the first turn wall after contact with George Foley and Cameron Grady. Foley appeared to lose power as the cars were trying to swoop to the outside of lap traffic. Chad Blair wound up in the fence near the flag stand on lap 23.

          Apparent J&S Steel Sportsman winner Jim Bushey was ruled to have an illegal carburetor.  Saranac’s Rick Frenyea became the official race winner. Robin Wood was second. Jamy Begor placed third.

Bushey took the lead on lap five and withstood two red flag restarts. The first red flag came out for a crash that eliminated Bucko Branham and Travis Bruno. The second red flag was for Bill Fountain of Plattsburgh, who took a vicious hit into the first turn wall.

          Frenyea and Wood survived door-banging bouts with hard-luck Bill Sawyer, who spun into the infield as he neared the finish line.

          Defending Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade champion Lonnie Rivers of Cadyville was well positioned to win the Renegade 25-lap feature after Cody Benoit and Ken St. Germaine collided at the front of the pack trying to negotiate lapped traffic. Benoit and St. Germaine careened into the high groove and took out third-place Keith Pelkey, opening the door for Rivers. Lance Rabtoy was the runner-up, a car-length ahead of Keith O’Neil in third.

          Steven Bresette of Keeseville won the NAPA Mini-Modified feature with Rick Doner parked on his bumper. Randy Martin of Keeseville was third.

          Cody Meyers of Plattsburgh won the Monster Energy Bomber feature.

Airborne press release - Airborne Expects Big Field for Saturday's Opener

South Plattsburgh – Airborne Speedway begins its 58th stock car racing season this Saturday, May 1 at 5 p.m. and promoter Mike Perrotte expects over 130 competitors across five divisions.

“We had 90 race teams for practice on Saturday,” Perrotte said. “Our opener this Saturday is a Syracuse qualifier for the DIRTcar Modifieds. I think that will draw some extra cars that haven’t had much of a chance to race yet this year. Plus our own local divisions are looking strong.”

The headliner on Saturday’s race card, presented by Valcour Imaging of Plattsburgh and Hamilton Funeral Home of Peru, is a 50-lap event that opens 2009 Modified champion Martin Roy’s title defense. The Napierville, Quebec driver of the Gamache Truck center No. 90 ran well at Syracuse last fall and he seeks a guaranteed starting spot in 2010.

Roy is seeking to become the first Ernie’s Tools DIRTcar Modified driver to repeat as track champion. His opening night challengers will include each of the four previous champions, Leon Gonyo of West Chazy, Mike Bruno of Castleton, VT, and George Foley and Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake.

The J&S Steel Sportsman, Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades, NAPA Mini-Modifieds and Monster Energy Bombers will also be action.

Gates open Saturday at 3 p.m. Admission is $13/adults – kids 12 and under free.

Airborne plans big month of May

South Plattsburgh, NY – May is going to be an exciting month at Airborne Speedway. Airborne’s 57th season – likely its biggest and most unique – opens Saturday, May 2. One week later, Saturday May 9, the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Models will be in town for the 35th annual Spring Green 100.

 

 

          The Modified Racing Series, one of two open-wheel asphalt modified tours scheduled to make its first-ever appearance at Airborne in 2010, will compete on Saturday, May 29. The Modified Racing Series has steadily grown in popularity with fans and race teams alike. The Series has a 19-race schedule in 2010, which takes it to all six New England states and New York. Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass is the reigning champion.

          The International Super Modified Association (ISMA) series will make its first trip to Airborne Saturday, July 17.

          Scott Payea, the 2009 ACT runner-up won the 2009 Spring Green. Racers attempting to deny Payea a second-straight Spring Green victory include 2009 ACT champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT, multi-time Airborne champion Brent Dragon of Milton, VT, Thunder Road Milk Bowl winner John Donahue of Graniteville, VT, Joey Polewarczyk of Hudson, NH and former Spring Green winner and NASCAR Busch North champion Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, NH. Canadian Junior Hanley and Plattsburgh’s Robin Wood (Sportsman) are the only drivers to win back-to-back Spring Greens.

          The season opener May 2 kicks off 2009 Ernie’s Tools Modified champion Martin Roy’s title defense. The J&S Steel Sportsman, Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades, Keeseville NAPA Auto Parts Mini-Modifieds and Monster Energy Bombers will also be in action.
