Two NASCAR Nationwide Series Crew Chiefs Fined; Crew Chiefs, Car Chiefs Placed On Probation For Infractions At Talladega Superspeedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 8, 2012) – NASCAR announced today that two NASCAR Nationwide Series crew chiefs had been fined and placed on probation for violations during this past weekend’s event at Talladega Superspeedway. In addition, the teams’ respective car chiefs have also been placed on probation for the remainder of the year.

Crew chiefs Jeremy Bullins (No. 22 team) and Chad Walter (No. 12 team) have each been fined $10,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. Additionally, the teams’ respective car chiefs – Thomas Clavette (No. 22) and Raymond Fox (No. 12) – have been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.


The rules violations referred to Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20-A of the rule book); 20A-2.1E (streamlining of the contours of the car, beyond what is approved by the series director will not be permitted. Installation of air directional devices, underpans, baffles, shields or the like beneath the car or the car’s hood and fender area, front firewall, floor, rear firewall area, rear deck and quarter panel will not be permitted. If, in the judgment of NASCAR officials, any part or component of the car not previously approved by NASCAR has been installed or modified to enhance aerodynamic performance, will not be permitted. All cars must remain standard in appearance); 20A-3.10A (front upper bumper cover must be from the respective OEM manufacturer and must be approved by NASCAR. The front lower bumper cover and rear bumper cover must be from an approved manufacturer and must be approved by NASCAR. Once approved, the front lower bumper covers may be used on all approved models. NASCAR officials may use bumper covers provided by the respective manufacturer as a guide in determining whether a competitor’s bumper cover conforms to the specifications of the NASCAR rule book. Unless otherwise authorized by the series director, cutting and reshaping of bumper covers will not be permitted.)

The infractions were discovered during opening day inspection on May 3.

Mark Martin a Solid Second in Vegas


Interstate Batteries Driver Leads 44 Laps in Sam’s Town 300

Start/Finish:    7th/2nd (Running, completed 200 of 200 laps)
Winner:           Ricky Stenhouse Jr., of Roush Fenway Racing (Ford)

Veteran Mark Martin, winner of four NASCAR Nationwide Series races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, came up one spot short of his fifth series win in Saturday’s Sam’s Town 300.

The driver of the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) led once for a total of 44 laps, but after surrendering the lead coming off of pit road on lap 146, Martin couldn’t get around eventual race winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and brought the white-hot No. 18 Interstate Batteries Camry home in the runner-up spot.

“Thanks to Joe Gibbs and everybody at JGR and Interstate Batteries,” said Martin, who now has six top-two finishes in seven career Nationwide Series starts at Las Vegas. “This Toyota was awesome and they were awesome.”

After qualifying seventh, Martin battled a loose handling racecar from the drop of the green flag, much like many of his fellow competitors. Crew chief Adam Stevens worked hard on the first three pit stops of the day to tighten up Martin’s racecar with a combination of air pressure and track bar adjustments. Not only did Stevens cure the handling issue, the Interstate Batteries team got Martin off pit road in the lead on lap 102. He led the next 44 laps, but on the final round of pit stops on lap 146, Stenhouse claimed the edge over Martin as the two raced off pit road.

Martin battled hard to get around Stenhouse during restarts on lap 150 and lap 162, but Stenhouse somehow kept Martin behind him during the final 53 laps of the 200-lap race.

“That was a serious beat down that Ricky Stenhouse Jr., put on me that last run,” said Martin, whose only finish outside the top-two at Las Vegas was a sixth-place effort in March 1998. “I have to admit, I almost wrecked the car five times trying to keep up with him and finally just had to surrender. I just about wrecked it I don’t know how many times. He was just gone and we have to, unfortunately, settle for second place.”

Martin’s JGR teammate, Brian Scott, driver of the No. 11 Toyota Camry, finished 34th after making contact with the outside SAFER Barrier in turn four, thus ending his day just prior to the race’s halfway point.

Stenhouse’s victory was his third career Nationwide Series win, his first of the season and his first at Las Vegas. Stenhouse is the defending Nationwide Series champion.

Martin finished 5.904 seconds behind Stenhouse, while Elliott Sadler, Trevor Bayne and Brendan Gaughan rounded out the top-five. Cole Whitt, Austin Dillon, Justin Allgaier, Sam Hornish Jr., and Kasey Kahne comprised the remainder of the top-10.

There were seven caution periods for 32 laps, with 13 drivers failing to finish.
 
The next event on the Nationwide Series schedule is the March 17 Ford EcoBoost 300 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. The race starts at 2 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by ESPN beginning with its pre-race show at 1 p.m.

LOUIS-PHILIPPE DUMOULIN TERMINE AVEC BRIO SA PREMIÈRE COURSE NATIONWIDE

Montréal, le 21 août 2011 - Une première course fort mouvementée en série Nationwide de NASCAR pour le plus jeune des frères Dumoulin, qui rallie l’arrivée malgré de nombreux ennuis à Montréal au Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve (samedi 20 août).

LOUIS-PHILIPPE DUMOULIN FINISHES HIS FIRST NATIONWIDE RACE WITH VERVE

 Montreal, August 21st, 2011 – It was an eventful first NASCAR Nationwide race for the youngest of the Dumoulin brothers, Louis-Philippe,  that managed to see the chequered flag despite several issues on Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

 

 Un changement de moteur a empêché Louis-Philippe Dumoulin à prendre part à la séance de qualification de vendredi. Toutefois, peu de temps avant le drapeau vert, la voiture n°52 Hairfax/DaVinci de l’équipe Means Motorsports était sur la ligne de départ en 41e position.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin a su tirer son épingle du jeu, éviter les ennuis et acquérir de l’expérience en série Nationwide alors que les accidents et neutralisations se sont multipliés en course.

 Le bris de deux crics hydrauliques dans les puits a occasionné des difficultés lors du changement des pneumatiques, forçant Louis-Philippe à s’arrêter à sept occasions. C’était sans compter une panne de carburant qui l’a certainement privé, dans les circonstances, d’un meilleur résultat.

 « Nous souhaitons obtenir au minimum un top-20 voire même un top-15, mais nos nombreux arrêts m’ont ralenti et m’ont fait perdre des positions », a expliqué Louis-Philippe Dumoulin. « Je suis satisfait de ma première expérience en Nationwide et cela augure bien pour la suite, surtout que l’équipe Means Motorsport est ravie de ma performance », a-t-il ajouté.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, instructeur de pilotage, repart à la maison à Trois-Rivières, satisfait d’avoir terminé sa première course malgré les multiples avaries (28e place). Il tient à remercier tous ceux qui ont rendu possible cette première expérience en série Nationwide.

 An engine change after testing on Friday stopped him from participating in the qualifying session later in the day, but not long before the race was green flagged, the No. 52 Hairfax/Da Vinci car of Team Means Motorsports was lined up in its 41st position on the grid.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin avoided the many collisions and incidents that caused numerous caution flags and restarts in the race and cumulated a priceless experience in a Nationwide car.

 The loss of two broken hydraulic jacks in the pits made tire changing a challenge for the team and Louis-Philippe ultimately had to stop on seven occasions. He also ran out of gas by the end of the race, depriving him of what would have certainly been a great result in the circumstances.

 “We were confident to obtain at least at top-20 and even a top-15, but our many pit stops slowed us down and made me lose track positions,” explained Louis-Philippe Dumoulin. “I am satisfied with this first experience in the Nationwide series and the future is looking bright since the team is very happy with my performance,” he added.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, professional racing instructor, returns home to Trois-Rivières with the satisfaction of having completed his first race despite several bumps on the way. He wishes to thank everyone that has made possible this first experience in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

MARCOS AMBROSE SCORES A WIN AT MONTREAL!




L'australien Marcos Ambrose remporte le NAPA 200 au Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, après avoir fait toute une remontée suite à son accrochage avec le favori de la foule Jacques Villeneuve. Cette victoire est la deuxième pour Ambrose, il a remportéla semaine dernière à Watkin's glen.

Australian driver Marcos Ambrose wins the NAPA 200 at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, after coming back from behind when he tangled with hometown favorite Jacques Villeneuve. This is Ambrose's second win in as many weeks, he won the at the Glen last week.





Le mal-aimé du Québec Alexandre Tagliani a terminé deuxième.

Micheal McDowell, Steven Wallace et JR Fitzpatrick complètent le top 5.

Jacques Villeneuve a mené une grande partie de la course. Un manœuvre risqué au Senna, même qualifié de vengeance par certains, a vue Villeneuve s'accrocher avec Ambrose.

Le grand perdant a été Villeneuve qui a perdu deux tours dans les puits pour mécaniser le tout. Il a terminé au 27e rang.

LP Dumoulin a ramené la voiture en 28e place en un morceau.

Maryeve Dufault a terminé en 30e place avec quelques têtes-à-queue et de multiples visites aux puits.

Jacques Vlleneuve led a long portion of the race. A move, called payback by some, saw him make contact with Ambrose.

The big looser in the incident is Villeneuve, he lost two laps in the pits to get the car fixed. He finished 27th.

LP Dumoulin finished 28th and brought the car home in one piece.

Maryeve Dufault finished in 30th position with several spins and multiple visits in the pits.







Peu de temps après la mi-course, Carpentier s'accrochait avec Steven Wallace lors d'une relance. Quelques tours plus tard, Carpentier a immobilisé sa voiture en bordure de piste. Il est crédité en 32e place.

DJ Kennington qui faisait un start-and-park a terminé en 40e place.

Andrew Ranger, le vainqueur en NASCAR Canadian Tire, quand a lui, une course à oublier, il a terminé 41e avec un 2e moteur de sauté en deux jours.

A little ways after mid-race, Carpentier got spun out by Steven Wallance moments after a restart. A couple laps later, Carpentier stopped trackside. He finished 32nd.

DJ Kennington who was on a start-and-park game plan finished 40th.

As for Andrew Ranger, the NASCAR Canadian Tire even winner, a race to forget. He finished 41st with a second blown engine in two days.

Une première ligne Québécoise!

C’est finalement Jacques Villeneuve qui aura tourné le tour le plus rapide et a capturé la pole Coors Light en enregistrant un temps de 101.800 sec.

Jacques Villeneuve ended up on top of the qualifying list and won the Coors Light pole award with a time of 101.800 sec.

 

Villeneuve a délogé Tagliani qui lui venait de tourner un tour de 101.935 sec pour devancer Jason Leffler qui avait pris la pole provisoire avec un tour à 102.165 sec.

 

Patrick Carpentier n’a pu faire mieux qu’une 8e place avec un chrono de 102.496 sec.

 

Longtemps, Andrew Ranger était en pole provisoire, une fois l’exercice des 8 groupes de six voitures, Ranger c’est retrouvé en 11e position ayant tourné un 102.638 sec.  Ranger était parti dans le 2e groupe (les plus rapide étant dans le 8e)

 

Ron Fellows lui a tourné un 102.967 sec et partira en 13e position. 

 

Maryeve Dufault malgré avoir tourné un 107.990 sec partira 39e puisque la voiture était qualifiée d’office.

N’ont pas fait la coupure : les frères Dumoulin, JF Dumoulin 44e (105.505 sec) et LP Dumoulin puisqu’il n’a pas participé à la qualification.  DJ Kennington n’a pu faire mieux que 43e (105.175 sec) dans la voiture appartenant à Jennifer Joe Cobbs et portant les couleurs de OCR Gaz Bar.

Villeneuve Knocked Tagliani off the provisional pole, which he got by turning a 101.935 sec lap edging out Jason Leffler’s 102.165 sec lap.

 

Patrick Carpentier could not do better than a 102.496 sec lap time which was good for 8th  position.

 

For a while, Andrew Ranger was sitting on top of the list, but at the end of the 8 groups of six drivers, Ranger was clocked at 102.638 sec and in 11th position.  Ranger started from the 2nd group (the faster drivers being in the 8th group).

 

Ron Fellows clocked a lap at 102.967 sec and will start in 13th position.  

 

Maryeve Dufault while she turned a slow 107.990 sec lap will start 39th because of the car being qualified on owner points.

 

Did not qualify:  The Dumoulin brothers, JF Dumoulin 44th (105.505 sec) and LP Dumoulin who did not qualify.  DJ Kennington could not do better than 43rd (105.175 sec) in the OCR Gaz Bar car, owned by Jennifer Joe Cobbs.

Au grand plaisir de la foule, Jacques Villeneuve a tourné un temps de 102.222 sec pour se hisser au haut de la feuille des temps dans cette deuxième séance de pratique.  Le contreversé Robby Gordon (102.448 sec), Owen Kelly (102.551 sec), Jason Leffler (102.576 sec), Scott Speed (102.733 sec) ont enregistré les cinq meilleurs temps.

Fans were delighted when Jacques Villeneuve turned a 102.222 secs, the fastest in the session, and took provisional P1 at the conclusion of the second session.  Controversial driver Robby Gordon (102.448 sec), Owen Kelly (102.551 sec), Jason Leffler (102.576 sec), Scott Speed (102.733 sec) clocked the top-5 times.

Immediately behind them at the wheel of his no. 12 Hot Wheels is Alex Tagliani (102.902 sec).  “Tag” was overheard asking significant changes to his automobile moments before the session ended.

Dufault qui a du abandonner en milieu de session, après avoir fait que 8 tours, quand des problèmes de moteur sont venue à son tour la hanter.  « Je ne sais pas ce qui c’est passé.  La voiture a bien débuté la « run » mais sur la ligne droite quand j’ai accéléré c’est comme si le moteur n’avançait plus parce qu’il n’avait plus de jus. »

Dufault who had to cut short her session having turned only 8 laps when her Dodge race car developed engine issues.  “I don’t know.  The car was running good and when I got on it at the long straight it just wouldn’t move.  It’s like it didn’t have power to push the car forward.”

Bonjour du Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve! Nous sommes sur place aujourd’hui pour couvrir les pratiques/qualification NASCAR Nationwide Series et les qualifications NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

Welcome from Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve! We are onsite all day to cover NASCAR Nationwide Series practice / qualifying and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series qualifying.













Lors de la première séance, l’histoire a certainement été l’explosion du moteur de Andrew Ranger après seulement quelques tours de piste. « C’est très décevant. On a même pas eu le temps de voir si la voiture est bonne. Nous allons avoir le temps de mécaniser (remplacer le moteur) avant la qualification, mais nous n’aurons pas tourné… donc ça annonce un départ en fond de grille pour la course » me déclara Andrew Ranger visiblement déçu.

In the first practice session, the story was Andrew Ranger’s blown engine after only a couple laps. “It’s very disappointing. We only got to run a few laps and we never got to figure out if the car’s handling is good. The crew will have time to replace the engine for the qualifying later today. But I will not have turned many laps... which means we will most likely start at the rear” said a very disappointed Ranger.






Même chose du côté de Louis-Philippe Dumoulin. Cependant, de son côté le diagnostic n’est pas si clair, puisque le moteur tournait mais ne partait pas. Jessica Ménard de Dumoulin Compétition nous confirme qu'ils devront tout de même changer le moteur pour la qualification.

Same thing for Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, in his case, we could not confirm why his engine cranked but would not fire. We are expecting additional news on this front. Dumoulin Competition's Jessica Ménard confirms the team will be changing the engine for qualifying.


Le canadien Ron Fellows (102.129sec) a tourné le tour le plus rapide. Owen Kelly (102.859sec), Alex Tagliani (102.933sec), Boris Said (102.944) et Jacques Villeneuve (102.980) complètent le groupe des cinq plus rapides.


Patrick Carpentier (103.235sec) est 7e; JR Fitzpatrick (104.192sec) est 13e, JF Dumoulin est (106.086sec) est 26e; Ranger (107.918sec) est 37e; LP Dumoulin (110.202sec) est 44e; Maryeve Dufault (110.729sec) est 45e et DJ Kennington (110.969sec) est 46e.

Patrick Carpentier (103.235sec) is 7th; JR Fitzpatrick (104.192sec) is 13th, JF Dumoulin is (106.086sec) is 26th; Ranger (107.918sec) is 37th; LP Dumoulin (110.202sec) is 44th; Maryeve Dufault (110.729sec) is 45th et DJ Kennington (110.969sec) is 46t.
