ACT - Eddie MacDonald Holds On For ACT Win at Oxford Plains

Oxford, ME – Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, MA took the checkered flag in the American-Canadian Tour 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME. MacDonald started in the fifth starting position and would take the lead on a lap 54 restart.

The 2009 Oxford 250 and ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway winner would lead the remainder of the race but not without pressure from hometown favorite Tommy Ricker of Poland, ME. Ricker got to the rear bumper of MacDonald several times in the final laps but didn’t have enough to get by while the two worked their way through lap traffic. The 2009 ACT Late Model Tour Champion Brian Hoar took third after leading the first 25 laps. MacDonald’s only other ACT Late Model Tour win also came at Oxford Plains Speedway in August of 2007.

 

John Donahue made a late race charge from his 31st starting position to finish fourth followed by Tim Brackett rounding out the top 5. Travis Adams, Scott Payea, Brent Dragon, Jeff White and TJ Brackett rounded out the top ten.

The 150 lap event was completed in just over 52 minutes and was slowed by just one caution on lap 54.

With his win in the second event of the 2010 ACT Tour schedule. MacDonald joins opening day winner Nick Sweet as the first two qualifiers for the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway that will be held on Saturday, September 18.

Several ACT Tour regulars failed to qualify for the feature including Jamie Fisher, Pete Potvin, Joey Laquerre, Chip Grenier, Craig Bushey, Derek Lynch, Jeff Zuidema, Eric Chase, Jean-Paul Cyr, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., and Tyler Cahoon. A total of 53 competitors attempted to qualify.

The ACT Late Model Tour will be back in action on Friday, June 11 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH for the makeup of the previously postponed NH Governor’s Cup 150. Post time at the 1/3 mile speedway will be 7:15pm.

La première manche de la série Super Sporstman Lucas Oil

appartient à Steeve Lesage de Québec

 

(Ste-Croix-de-Lotbinière, Qc. (16-05-10) –Steeve Lesage de Québec qui partait de la première place sur la grille de départ, a mené 68 des 70 tours de piste pour remporter la première manche de la série Super Sportsman Lucas Oil qui s’est déroulée, samedi soir au circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway. On a retranché 30 passages à cette finale qui jusque-là avait été ponctuée de huit ralentissements, d’un drapeau rouge en raison d’un carambolage et de trois reprises annulées en raison d’incidents.

 

Devant l’heure tardive, plus de deux heures pour 70 tours, il a été décidé de mettre un terme à cette soirée qui avant cela, s’était déroulée selon l’horaire prévu.

 

 

Pour en revenir à Lesage, mentionnons qu’il a survécu à toutes les relances, sauf la huitième alors qu’il avait été dépassé par Martin Latulippe, le champion de la saison 2009. Latulippe avait réussi l’exploit trois fois auparavant, mais en chaque occasion un ralentissement était venu anéantir ses efforts. Puis, son règne fut de courte durée, car, il a été victime d’une panne sèche à la toute fin. Sylvain Labbé de S t-Joseph a toujours roulé parmi les meneurs pour prendre place sur la deuxième marche du podium et il a été accompagné par Simon Roussin de Québec.

 

Jonathan Côté de St-Jean-Chrysostôme et Jimmy Nadeau de Beauceville ont complété le peloton des cinq premiers. Dans la division Inter, c’est Gerry Bilodeau qui a triomphé.

 

La deuxième manche aura lieu à l’Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction, vendredi soir prochain.

 

À l’occasion des préliminaires de cette série Super Sportsman Lucas Oil, Sylvain Labbé de St-Joseph a eu l’honneur de remporter la première devant Tony Côté de Beauceville alors que Patrick Boyer qui avait été le troisième à rallier la ligne d’arrivée, mais il a été exclu du résultat en raison d’une voiture non règlementaire au niveau de la hauteur. Dans la médiane, c’est Christian Prouvost de Québec qui a eu le meilleur devant Daniel Sylvain de St-Georges et Pier-Luc Labbe de st-Joseph. Dans la troisième regroupant les pilotes de la division Inter, Christian Prouvost de Québec a savouré les joies d’un premier triomphe devant Daniel Sylvain de St-Georges et Pier-Luc Labbe de St-Joseph.

 

Classes Locales

En début de soirée, à l’occasion des finales dans les classes locales, Steve Masson a connu une soirée parfaite en classe Racer. Après avoir triomphé lors de la préliminaire, il en a fait autant dans la finale de 25 tours devant Stéphane Dubuc et Martin Deschênes. En Sport Compact, Robin Harrison n’a mis que six tours pour s’accaparer le poste de commande et filer cers le cercle des vainqueurs. Il a été accompagné sur le podium d’honneur par Jimmy Roy et Philippe Poulin.

 

Finalement en classe Kamikaze, Kevin Laroche a disposé de Marc Fournier et Bruno Lavandière dans l’ultime confrontation de 15 tours alors que lors de la course spéciale regroupant les pompiers volontaires de Ste-Croix, la victoire est allée à Daniel Laflamme. À signaler, la troisième place du maire Jacques Gauthier.

 

La prochaine épreuve de stock-car à se dérouler au circuit Ste-Croix/Lotbinière aura lieu le 19 juin avec la première d’une série de trois visites de la série ACT-Castrol Edge. Auparavant, mentionnons le Festival d’accélération de camions lourds, les 28 et 29 mai et également les soirées de lapping et de drift.

DELAWARE SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE

                                SHERIDAN WINS NASCAR LATE MODEL OPENER

 

Ron Sheridan won the NASCAR Late Model feature race on opening night at Delaware Speedway.

Sheridan took the lead at lap 26 however the most important pass he made may have been at lap 23 when he went around Jesse Kennedy to take over third.  Up to that point, Mark Watson had led the entire race until some contact with defending champion Steve Robblee (who was second at the time) in turn three.  As a result, Robblee was black-flagged and sent to the back of the lead lap. Watson’s night was over and Sheridan took the lead.  Kennedy went on to finish second.

 

Unlike last year when he wrecked on opening night, Scott Lindsay, a former champion, had a good start to the ‘10 season with a third-place finish.

There were four cautions in the race, the most notable being at lap 12 with a four-car wreck on the back straightaway that involved Lloyd Rawlings, Jamie Grover, Shawn Thompson and Jay Doerr.  Both Doerr and Rawlings suffered heavy damage and did not return to the race.

Earlier in the night Kennedy and Robblee both collected heat race wins.

In Demar Aggregates Trucks, London’s Gary Adriaensen, a former Enduro competitor, scored his first ever Truck feature win.  Adriaensen’s #55 took the lead at lap 13 from Michelle Korcina who had led the first 12 laps.  She landed in second place. 

Jeff Showler’s season started with a wreck.  His #56 had to be towed off the track after he was involved in an incident on the front straightaway.

Steve McCaw of Komoka took Truck heat #1. Defending champion Paul Fothergill, started 2010 with a win in heat race #2.  He was strong in the feature but faded with what appeared to be a mechanical issue near the end and finished 11th.

In the Super Stock division, the stats show that Steve Smith’s #84 led every lap of the feature race but that’s only part of the story.  Smith had Stephen Richmond in the 24 car bearing down on him, making several strong challenges for the lead.  Meanwhile, with the 28 of Kris Lawrence and the 77 of Darrell Lake closing in, a caution with 3 laps to go meant three strong challengers were on Smith’s tail. Smith got the restart he needed and became the second straight driver to come from the Enduro division to win a feature race on this opening night.

On Tuesday May 18th Delaware Speedway is hosting the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series practice day.  Spectators are welcome to watch some of the finest drivers in the country for free – they’ll take to the track in the noon hour.  Delaware hosts the opening race of the NCATS series June 5th.  Tickets are on sale at the track and online at www.delawarespeedway.com.

Next Friday, May 21st, the racing line-up at Delaware Speedway features the NASCAR Late Models, POWERADE Modifieds and Demar Aggregates Trucks.

Autodrome Granby

 

Encore une fois Mère Nature aura décidée autrement.  L’autodrome Granby annule sa programmation prévue le vendredi 14 mai 2010.

Once again Mother Nature saw it differently.  Autodrome Granby Officials canceled their Friday, May 14th 2010 program.

 

Avec 80% de probabilité de pluie et des précipitations en régions nous n’avons pas le choix de prendre cette dure décision nous affirma Jean-François Tessier.

With 80% chance of rain and precipitations in the area we are forced to make this harsh decision and cancel said Jean-François Tessier.

St-Eustache: Premier programme sous les réflecteurs

Un dernier programme préparatoire
avant le début de la « vraie » saison

ST-EUSTACHE – Jusqu’à maintenant les dirigeants de l’autodrome de St-Eustache ont présenté deux programmes d’activités en 2010 sur la piste ovale du complexe. Ces épreuves ont servi à bien préparer la « vraie » saison qui s’amorcera avec les premières courses d’importance, le samedi 22 mai prochain, avec la présentation de la première épreuve de la série ACT-Castrol Edge et des premières dans les deux classes NASCAR : Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel et Sport Compact NASCAR Lucas Oil.

Le jeune Steve Côté affichera de nouvelles couleurs et un nouveau numéro en 2010 lors des courses en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel tel qu’on a pu le voir lors de sa participation à des essais privés au cours des dernières semaines.

« On sent que le début de la « vraie saison » s’en vient alors que nous accueillons à tous les jours des compétiteurs des principales séries qui viennent compléter la préparation de leur voiture en essais privés. Après Claude Leclerc, ce fut au tour de Patrick Laperle de venir rouler cette semaine en essais préparatoires en prévision de la première du championnat ACT de la semaine prochaine, » explique Yves Ladouceur, le directeur de la compétition de l’autodrome.

Il y a également eu plusieurs compétiteurs du championnat Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel, dont le champion Jonathan Bouvrette, Isabelle Tremblay qui vise le titre de recrue par excellence, André Coursol qui devrait être de retour en piste malgré son annonce l’automne dernier de se retirer, Jonathan Côté, le redoutable Maxime Pelletier et quelques autres qui ont l’intention de disputer toutes les courses de la prochaine saison.

On prédit une saison très intéressante dans la « deuxième division » de NASCAR à l’autodrome de St-Eustache alors qu’on a présentement 35 compétiteurs détenteurs d’une « licence » dont le jeune Dave Coursol qui veut se battre parmi les cinq premiers au cours des prochains mois.

Il y aura également plusieurs recrues en piste, dont Marc Saulnier un entrepreneur d’importance en construction dans Lanaudière qui sera au volant de la voiture de Jason Labrosse, un des dirigeants du complexe qui a décidé de se retirer de la compétition active cette année après avoir impressionné l’an dernier à ses débuts en Challenge 4 ANCA Meilleur Ramoneur.

Une première sous les réflecteurs

Samedi soir, on présentera la première compétition sous les réflecteurs avec les compétiteurs de toutes les classes de l’ANCA en plus de ceux de la série Pro-Truck Cummins alors qu’on attend environ 15 camionnettes pour un championnat qui se disputera exclusivement à l’autodrome au cours des prochains mois sous la gouverne de l’organisation de Rhéal Carpentier, de retour comme promoteur et responsable pour 2010.

Dans le cadre de cette soirée, les amateurs pourront assister à des essais pour les pilotes des deux classes de NASCAR et s’il y a suffisamment de compétiteurs présents, on présentera même des courses de démonstration.

Brièvement

  • Le coût de l’admission pour ce programme est de 20 dollars et pour se rendre dans le paddock, on doit débourser cinq dollars supplémentaires, mais c’est gratuit pour les jeunes de 17 ans et moins.
  • La finale pour la classe Pro-Truck Cummins sera de 50 tours; celle en Légende Modifiée ANCA Lettrage Provan de 30; celle en Challenge 4 ANCA Meilleur Ramoneur de 25.
  • Les pneus utilisés cette saison en Légende Modifiée, American Racer, sont maintenant arrivés chez le concessionnaire, mais tous les compétiteurs doivent avoir complété les essais sur dynamomètre avant de pouvoir prendre la piste.
  • Un nouveau commanditaire vient de s’ajouter pour les courses en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel alors que Construction Claude Charest remettra une somme de 125 dollars dans un tirage au sort parmi les meilleurs à l’arrivée des doubles finales.
  • Rappelons que toutes les voitures, peu importe la classe, qui participeront aux courses seront équipées d’un transpondeur pour avoir un chronométrage électronique complet.
  • Le directeur commercial de l’autodrome, Buddy Ford, annonce l’arrivée de deux nouveaux partenaires commerciaux à l’autodrome : maverickautoracing.com et les restaurants Dic Ann’s.
  • Le champion de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire en titre, série que l’on verra à l’autodrome de St-Eustache le 3 juillet prochain, Andrew Ranger a effectué avec succès ses premiers essais préparatoires avec l’équipe Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports au circuit Lime Rock au Connecticut en prévision de sa prochaine participation aux épreuves de la série NASCAR K&N Pro Series.
  • Toujours aussi bien organisée, Isabelle Tremblay a convié les journalistes à une rencontre de presse mercredi prochain au centre-ville de Montréal pour dévoiler le nom de tous ses commanditaires ayant accepté de l’appuyer pour disputer une première saison en Sportsman NASCAR Ippersiel.

Airborne Speedway Press Release

South Plattsburgh – Airborne Speedway will celebrate Memorial Day weekend by hosting a Modified Racing Series event for the first time Saturday, May 29 and the tour’s top drivers are looking forward to racing their low-slung 600 HP machines on the progressively-banked half mile.

“We’re hearing that there are three or more racing grooves to play around with,” defending Series champion Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass. said. “That should be a lot of fun and it should make it a very interesting, competitive race.”

Veteran Dwight Jarvis of Ascutney, Vt., winner of the 2010 Modified Racing Series opener at Monadnock Speedway, feels the same way. “We’re excited,” Jarvis said. “We’ve heard a lot of good things about Airborne.”

“The Airborne race is the first part of a big doubleheader for our series,” founder, promoter and competitor Jack Bateman said. “We race the next day at Thunder Road. It’s something we’ve never done before. This is our seventh season and we have 65 teams entered, which is a record for us. It’s really exciting.”

Greg Atkins Logging and Taylor Rental present the Modified Racing Series 100-lap event. All Airborne divisions will also compete. Post time is 5 p.m.

“I think this race will be a treat for our fans and it bring in some race fans from outside the area,” Perrotte said. “The Modified Series cars are the type that race so well at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. They’re a link to a lot of Airborne history from the 50s’ and 60’s.”

This Saturday, May 15 is Econo Lodge Kiddie Rides Night. Kiddie rides begin at 4:40 p.m. Post time is 5 p.m. All Airborne divisions will be in action.

Admission is $10/adults – kids 12 and under free.

Delaware Speedway - Friday's action

NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Action at Delaware Speedway

May 13, 2010 (London, Ontario) Mother Nature decided to remind us of her power last Friday, raining out the action at Delaware Speedway on the Mother's Day Weekend.

OK Mother, we heard you, now it's our turn!

This Friday, May 14th, we'll be on the track with the NASCAR Late Models, Delaware Super Stocks and Demar Aggregates Trucks. Fans will also cheer on the spectators in 2010's first King of the Hill race!

Dorchester's Steve Robblee is defending his title in the Late Model Division, having finished the '09 season as champion – his 9th time taking the title. Ron Sheridan of Mt. Bridges was just 16 points back of Robblee in '09. Sheridan is widely considered to be the best driver never to have won a championship at Delaware.

In the Super Stocks, the #11 of Jason Lidster from St. Thomas In looks to repeat as champion, while former Junior Racing League graduates like Darrell Lake do their best to take the title away.

And in the Demar Aggregates Trucks, Paul Fothergill picks up this season after another truck championship last year and a solid run in the Enduro on the first of May.

We're also welcoming back the volunteers from Jesse's Journey who will complete their lap of the track in support of the Walk Across Canada in a Day fundraiser. It's a minimum $5 donation to help end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and walk with us just before racetime.

ACT at Lee USA Speedway Rescheduled

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) recently announced that the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 originally scheduled for April 18 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH has been rescheduled for Friday, June 11. The event was originally scheduled as the 2010 ACT season opener but was postponed due to rain. It will be the 8th ACT Late Model Tour event ever held at the 1/3-mile speedway and the 3rd event of the 2010 ACT season.

 

ACT teams will have a challenge in racing with the Lee regulars, who have gained experience in the longer distance ACT races over the years. The Lee contingent will be led by defending champ and current point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH. Helliwell has already scored two wins in the first two events at Lee in 2010 and is currently leading the Ford Blue Oval Cup Challenge.

ACT favorites include past Lee winners Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who won the 2008 NH Gov Cup, and Jean-Paul Cyr, winner of a 2005 Lee event. Defending and six-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar has never won an ACT event at Lee but has to be considered a favorite as he currently sits atop the ACT point standings. Other contenders include Scott Payea, who has two third place finishes in five career starts at Lee, Brent Dragon, John Donahue, Randy Potter, Jamie Fisher, and Glen Luce among others.

Before ACT teams can look ahead to the NH Governor’s Cup, they will have to battle in this Sunday’s (May 16) 150 lap event at Oxford Plains Speedway (OPS) in Oxford, ME. The 1/3-mile speedway has become a favorite among drivers because of its multiple grooves and three wide action. Over forty teams are expected to fight for the thirty starting spots. Over $25 grand in purse will be up for grabs along with the second invitation to the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 18. Post time this Sunday, May 16 at OPS is set for 2pm.

Ste-Croix/Riverside: Enfin, un début de saison attendu !

Circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway

 

On débute avec la Série SS Lucas Oil

 

(Ste-Croix-de-Lotbinière, Qc. (12-05-10) – C’est à la Série SS Lucas Oil que revient l’honneur d’entamer la saison du 40e anniversaire du circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway, le samedi 15 mai prochain. Ce sera également le début d’une quatrième année pour ce championnat alors que les nombreux engagés croiseront le fer dans une confrontation de 100 tours.

 

 

Sous la gouverne d’André Poulin, cette série est en santé et le nombre de participants ne cesse d’augmenter d’une saison à l’autre tellement qu’il a fallu les diviser en deux groupes, soit Intermédiaire et Élite. Au total on y compte près de 40 participants, mais pour l’épreuve de samedi soir prochain, André Poulin pense regrouper au moins trente d’entre eux. « En raison de la grandeur du tracé, cinq huitièmes de mille, il a été décidé de regrouper les deux groupes afin de ne pas ternir le spectacle. D’ailleurs, il en sera ainsi lors de chacune de nos visites dans Lotbinière », de préciser Monsieur Poulin.

 

Ce championnat s’avère le tremplin idéal pour la série ACT-Castrol. Champion en 2007, Patrick Hamel de St-Édouard-de-Lotbinière a gradué en LMS en 2008, saison au cours de laquelle, il a mérité le titre de « recrue de l’année » alors que monarque, la saison dernière, Martin Latulippe de Vallée-Jonction tentera d’en faire autant cette année.

 

On y comptera plusieurs recrues, douze au total, dont le plus jeune, Alex Montminy de Lévis. Âgé de seulement 14 ans, il est le fils de Guy Montminy, un excellent coureur en motoneige et ami de l’oncle Jacques Villeneuve de St-Cuthbert qui saura sans aucun doute prodiguer de précieux conseils. Il a déjà commencé en se pointant à une séance d’essai à Vallée-Jonction. Parmi les autres, il y a Alain Bédard de Château-Richer, Martin Latulippe de Québec, Daniel Sylvain de St-Georges et de nombreux autres qui feront parler d’eux lors de cette saison.

 

En division Élite, parmi les participants, les amateurs devront porter une attention toute particulière aux Beaucerons Tony Côté, Jimmy Nadeau, Sylvain Labbé ainsi qu’aux Québécois ; Jean-François Maltais, Simon Roussin, Steeve Lesage et autres alors qu’en division Intermédiaire, voici quelques noms à retenir ; Christian Provost de Québec, Daniel Sylvain de St-Georges, Johnny Gagné de St-Georges. Le plateau de favoris est tellement imposant qu’il est impossible de nommer tout le monde en ce début de saison. Cependant, au fur et à mesure qu’elle va progresser, il est assuré que l’on découvrira les vedettes de cette Série SS Lucas Oil.

 

Au même programme de cette soirée qui débutera à dix-huit (18) heures précises, toutes les classes locales seront de la partie. Malheureusement, en raison de la mauvaise température du week-end dernier, l’enregistrement des participants n’a pu se faire tel que prévu, mais la direction du circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway espère que tout le monde sera de ce premier rendez-vous.

 

Course spéciale

Dans un geste de solidarité envers la communauté de Ste-Croix, une course du club Colt, c’est-à-dire, vingt voitures de location qui seront pilotées par les pompiers volontaires et certains de leurs supporteurs. Le coût de location des véhicules est une gracieuseté du circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside au profit des pompiers volontaires de Ste-Croix.

 

Rappelons que le forfait familial au coût de 300 $ pour une famille de deux adultes et deux enfants de 15 ans et moins pour toutes les activités au calendrier de la saison est toujours disponible. Pour le programme de samedi soir, l’admission générale sera de 20$ alors qu’un supplément de 5 $ sera exigé pour avoir accès librement à l’enclos des pilotes.

MARIO PAGE IS "SUPER" IN SPEEDSTR WIN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY



Myerstown, PA - May 9, 2010 - "Super" Mario Page of Hillsborough, NJ enters victory lane in only his second SpeedSTR appearance.

Doug Rose of Syracuse, NY drew the pole after winning the second Valvoline dash earlier in the day with Don Zrinski (Piscataway, NJ) who set fast time lining up second to bring the exciting STR field to the green. Rose would set the early pace, pulling out to a healthy lead as Page worked his way into second from fourth starting position. By the halfway point the track began to take rubber in the lower groove as Rose continued to lead running the upper line over Page and the Johnny Muffler 28 of DJ Macri (Waretown, NJ) when the first caution flew. On the ensuing restart Page darted under Rose to take command of the STR feature event. Rose quickly dropped down to the hub and got on Page's rear bumper with Macri close behind. Meanwhile the action mid pack was intense with Tyler Potts (Milford, NJ) who had made his way up to the fourth position after starting tenth on the grid was battling with Gary Huber (Riverdale, NJ) who started from the tail of the STR field.

The front three of Page, Rose, and Macri continued to set the pace. Potts would eventually get by Macri on a restart and set his sights on Rose. Page pulled out to a 3 car advantage as Potts pressured Rose for second. The two would make contact, with Rose going around on lap 22.

The following restart saw 2009 SpeedSTR National Champion, Billy VanInwegen move into fourth with Kyle Hieber (Langhorne, PA) the previous STR feature winner cracking the top 5. As the STR's came for the white flag, Page would lead comfortably, but Hieber, Huber, and the Kiwi Farms 33 of Doug Sherwood (Piscataway, NJ) were all battling for the 5th position. The three would make contact entering turn one with Rose and Zrinski looking for room by, but all competitors kept control and continued down the backstretch. Hieber would grab the hard fought fifth position. Page led the pack to the $800.00 checkered flag, followed by Potts, Macri, VanInwegen, and Hieber.

STR notes: The 14 year old Rahmer boys, Freddie Jr. and Brandon both were on hand in their SpeedSTR's this weekend. Freddie Jr. pitted mid race with a right rear flat and Brandon came home a solid 9th in his STR début.

17 SpeedSTR's were on hand at Grandview Speedway. The division continues to grow each and every season.

Pro All Stars Series news: PASS South Wake County race report

Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South super late model regular Justin Wakefield survived a wild finish to capture Friday nights’ Capitol City Clash 150 at Raleigh North Carolina’s Wake County Speedway.  Wakefield took the lead away from Ryan Lawler with just two laps to go. Lawler hung tough in second, with series point leader Preston Peltier third. Home track hero Alex Fleming raced home fourth and Heath Hindman completed the top five.

The victory was Wakefield’s fourth in PASS South competition. His last win came in July of 2009 at Hickory Motor Speedway. 

 

 

For the most part the field kept their cool as the laps clicked away, running a hard but patient race until the checkered flag was in sight. Just five caution flags slowed the first 144 laps.. Then came caution number six,  and the restart produced  the kind of craziness only a tight bullring like Wake County Speedway can create.

Preston Peltier and Ryan Lawler led the field to the green  and it looked like Peltier might be able to extend his PASS South win streak to three. Peltier seemed to have Lawler cleared but a nudge from behind had Peltier, Lawler and Ryan Blaney three wide and the field stacked up behind them. The caution flew and when the dust cleared the front five was shaken up considerably. Lawler now had the lead with Blaney second, John Stancill third, Justin Wakefield fourth and Alex Fleming fifth.  When the green flew again Lawler led and Blaney tried to dive to the bottom but he hadn’t quite cleared Stancill. The resultant crash ended Blaney’s night. Andy Loden suffered race ending damage trying to avoid the wreck.

The running order with four to go was Lawler in the lead with Wakefield up to second, Stancill third, Peltier back up to fourth and Alex Fleming fifth.  The front pair drag raced into turn one, and Wakefield took over the lead for good on lap 148 Stancill was later penalized for gaining spots on the track under caution; he was listed as eighth (last car on the lead lap) at the finish.

In addition to Wakefield, Peltier and Lawler, Jay Fogleman and Devin Jones each had a turn at the front of the field early on.  While Fogleman only led a single lap, Jones led over thirty before handing over the lead to Lawler.

 Andy Loden earned his second pole award of the season with a fast lap of 12.888 seconds around the .23 mile oval, just a tick faster than Devin Jones ‘ 12.901 .Ryan Blaney (12.904) Ryan Lawler(12.945) Jimmy Weller (12.971) completed the fast five.

PASS South takes a break until May 29th when the OLD Glory 150 will mark the series return to Concord (NC) Speedway. Tickets to the OLD GLORY 150 ARE FREE. ACT Spring Green 100 at Airborne Postponed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                             ACT-050710

Waterbury, VT – The 36th Annual Furniture World of Vermont Spring Green 100 scheduled for this Saturday, May 8 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY has been postponed due to forecasted heavy rains. The event will be rescheduled for another date which will be announced as soon as possible.

 

The Spring Green 100 at Airborne was scheduled to be the second event on the 14 race 2010 ACT Late Model Tour schedule. The Tour will now be back in action on Sunday, May 16 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME for a 150 lap event. It will be opening day for the 1/3 mile speedway, admission is just $18 for adults and post time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
