Hoar Earns 30th Career ACT Late Model Tour Victory

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Brian Hoar reached a career milestone and checked another box off his bucket list on Sunday afternoon.

Hoar won the ACT Late Model Tour Spring Green 111 at Devil's Bowl Speedway, becoming the first driver in Tour history to win 30 career races by collecting his first-ever Devil's Bowl victory. Ironically, Hoar led the final 37 laps in his RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge en route to the win.

He had never competed on the track before Sunday.

“I just had an awesome, awesome race car,” said Hoar, who now has two wins this season in three starts. “(Team owner and crew chief Rick Paya) was telling me to slow it down toward the end, and I said 'Nope.'”

Hoar, who won the season opener at Lee USA Speedway last month, continues to lead the ACT standings over John Donahue, who finished second Sunday. Hoar has won the last two series championships and seven overall.

He passed Craig Bushey for the lead on Lap 75 after a spirited battle between the two. From there, it was all about picking up win No. 30. No other driver in ACT history has more than 19.

“It is pretty cool,” Hoar said of the milestone. “It's pretty humbling. The fact of the matter is that 21 years ago, I wouldn't have guessed that I was ever going to be racing for 30 victories. It's a big deal.

“The fact that we won at another race track where we had never won before – I love that. I love going to new race tracks and being able to check them off.”

Hoar started 12th in the 32-car field and stayed patient, dropping back as far as 15th following an early restart while waiting for racing room deep in the pack. But once the car found some space to operate, Hoar quickly cracked into the Top-7 and began his charge toward the front.

Some moisture on the track surface, following nearly an entire week of steady rains in the northeast, required the need for exercising caution, Hoar said.

“I think the track itself is going to produce some excellent racing,” Hoar said. “As bad as some of the cautions were, the track raced phenomenally. The bottom is so flat, and the outside has a little banking that's really nice.”

The victory was Hoar's second in the Spring Green, one of the crown jewels of ACT-legal Late Model racing. His last win in the event came in 1999, when it was contested at the similar Airborne Raceway in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
