MOSPORT PR: First Races Of The Season On Day Two At Mosport
The second day of Mosport's Victoria Day SpeedFest saw track records fall and the first races of the weekend. In the Pirelli World Challenge Championship, Mike Skeen of Charlotte, NC set the track record in qualifying (1:19.310) and never looked back. Finishing second in the #3 Cadillac CTS-V was Flowery Branch, GA native Johnny O’Connell of American Le Mans Series fame, 2.506 seconds off the pace. In all, 11 GT drivers bested the qualifying record and continued the trend during the race. O’Connell now holds the fast lap race record with a time of 1:21.215. |
The GTS Class saw Ben Crosland, a rookie driver from Salt Lake City, UT take the top spot while point's leader Eric Foss of Dallas, TX finished second. Six GTS class drivers set new track records. In the Touring Class, Lawson Aschenbach of Darnestown, MD was victorious. Two Canadians finished on the podium, Anthony Rapone of Thornhill, ON was second and taking third spot was Toronto’s own Aaron Povoledo. The SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series held their second practice run of the weekend with defending Series champion Tony Ave of Maiden, NC posting the fastest lap time of 1:17.216, over a second ahead of his competition. Canadian Blaise Csida of Stouffville, ON had the second fastest lap time of the day at 1:19.133. Saturday's racing also the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Challenge hold their first of two races this long weekend. In the Super Touring Class, Richard Boake of King City, ON took the Round 1 win over Ashton, ON native Arek Wojciechowski by 2.712 seconds. Brothers Gary and Tom Kwok of Markham finished one-two in the Touring Class. Sunday's schedule begins with practice and qualifying and a pair of races in the morning. After lunch the final three races of the weekend will take place, with Pirelli World Challenge and Castrol Touring holding their second races of the weekend, followed by the SCCA Trans-Am to wrap the kick-off weekend to Mosport’s 2011 season. |
