Mosport's Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend Kicks-Off The 2011 Season
The 2011 season officially kicked off today with the start of the 2011 Victoria Day SpeedFest at Mosport International Raceway. |
All six of the series' running this weekend were on track for the first day of the three days of racing on Mosport's famed road course. The Pirelli World Challenge held two practice sessions and SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series held one. The SCCA Pro Spec Racer Ford and SCCA Pro Formula Enterprises held their qualifying for the weekend doubleheaders and the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship along with participants for the Sundown Grand Prix held testing sessions. In total, 10 Pirelli World Challenge drivers in the GT class had unofficial fast lap times that were quicker than the existing track record of 1:22.256 set back in 2005. Mississauga native Fred Roberts, who was the 2010 World Challenge GT Rookie of the Year set the fastest time among the Canadians. Driving the #89 Direct Energy Home Services Dodge Viper, Roberts had an official time of 1:23.507. Defending SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am champion Tony Ave of Maiden, NC set the pace in their practice session with a time of 1:17.785. Stouffville’s Blaise Csida was second, 3.097 seconds behind. Saturday's action begins with practice and qualifying sessions and the first race of the weekend in the morning. The SCCA Spec Racer Ford, Formula Enterprises, Castrol Touring and Pirelli World Challenge will run the first leg of their doubleheaders Saturday afternoon. The day closes out with the three-hour Sundown Grand Prix Endurance race into darkness. |
