Clay Rogers Wins First PASS South Event Saturday Night at South Boston Speedway

Accomplished Racer Earns Victory in Hard-Fought Battle to the Checkered Flag

 

The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models headed to South Boston Speedway in Virginia on Saturday, August 20th, for the “PASS 150 Presented by Gazette Virginian” event, the 10th race of the 2011 season. In the nine previous races of the year, multiple drivers, including Chris Eggleston, Stephen Nasse, Roger Lee Newton and Bubba Pollard, all went to the PASS South victory lane for the first time. On Saturday, one more name was added to the list as accomplished racer Clay Rogers earned his first series victory.

 

“Thanks for everybody for coming out,” said an excited Rogers in victory lane to the fans. “I hope that was the show you wanted that you paid for.”

 

Nearly 30 Super Late Model racers timed in during qualifying in the late afternoon at South Boston with Nasse claiming the top honors. Cassius Clark, Rogers, Preston Peltier, Heath Hindman, Andy Loden, David Quackenbush, Jay Fogleman, Alex Fleming and Jody Lavender rounded out the top-10 qualifiers. After the redraw, Quackenbush and Lavender would start the event from the front row, followed by Loden, Peltier, Nasse, Fleming, Rogers, Hindman, Fogleman, Clark and the rest of the 28-car field.

 

Quackenbush got the better jump on the initial start of the race, taking the lead on lap one. Loden shot through to second with Nasse third. Lavender dropped back to fourth with Peltier fifth in the opening laps of the event.

 

The first yellow flag flew at lap 13 for debris on the track. On the restart, Quackenbush tried to hold off Loden, but the high side worked for Loden, snagging the lead. After a few laps, Nasse worked his way to second with Quackenbush to third. Peltier moved to fourth with Hindman in fifth.

 

The second yellow flag flew at lap 20 for Fleming going around in turn two. Loden, Nasse, Quackenbush, Peltier and Hindman were the top five at the yellow.

 

The outside line worked for Loden on the previous restart, and it worked for Nasse on the next restart as he took the lead with Peltier following through in second. The yellow flag would fly once again at lap 32 for a spin in turn two by Ricky Frenette. Nasse, Peltier, Rogers, Loden and Quackenbush were the top five at the third caution.

 

The top side was once again the line to be in as Peltier took the lead on the restart with Nasse dropping back to second, but the yellow flew once again on lap 34 for an incident that involved multiple drivers, including Jimmy Weller, Fleming, Frenette, Allen Karnes, Tim Pinion, John Batten, Tyler Young, Ryan Blaney and Trevor Edwards. The incident brought out the red flag to clean up the track.

 

On the restart, Nasse was to Peltier’s high side, and was able to take the lead back once again. Peltier dropped into second ahead of Rogers, Loden and Quackenbush. Just past lap 50, the top two remained the same with Loden moving to third, followed by Rogers and Hindman.

 

While Nasse was out to a comfortable lead, the battle for the second spot headed up around lap 85, when Loden and Clark moved in on Peltier. A very close race between the three was intense for a few laps, but on the back-end of the battle, Clark went to second with Loden third, Peltier fourth and Weller moving into fifth. At lap 100, Nasse still was the leader, but Clark worked his way to within a few car lengths of him in second.

 

The yellow flag flew once again at lap 104 for Peltier going around in turn four. Clark got the jump on the following restart with the outside line getting the advantage over the inside line being led by Nasse, but another yellow flag flew at lap 106 for a couple cars spinning in turns one and two. Clark, Rogers, Anderson, Nasse and Loden were the top five during the yellow.

 

Clark was able to hold the lead on the restart on the inside line with Rogers dropping in a close second. While the top-two drivers were out to a decent lead, Loden, who was in fifth on the restart, used the high side to work his way to fourth, and then to third. Anderson went to fourth with Fogleman, who appeared to lose his power steering, in fifth.

 

After another caution at lap 119 for a few cars getting together in turn one, Rogers powered to the lead on the restart with Clark hanging on the low side, looking to recapture the top spot. The two raced side by side for multiple laps before Clark dropped back to fourth after slight contact between the two. That moved Loden to second, Nasse to third, Clark to fourth and Anderson to fifth with just 20 laps to go as the caution fell on the field for a spin in turn three by Quackenbush.

 

Loden went to the lead on the outside with Rogers in second on the following restart. Behind the leaders, another yellow flag flew on lap 134 as contact between Blaney and Anderson sent Anderson around in turns one and two. The yellow flag flew again one lap later on lap 135 for Hindman slamming the front stretch wall. Loden, Rogers, Nasse, Ward and Clark were the top five at the latest yellow.

 

Just before the restart, Nasse, from the third position, headed to the pits to be serviced from his crew. Meanwhile, Loden got the lead on the restart, but Rogers tried hard to get the lead back. Lavender moved up to third with Clark in fourth and Anderson fifth as Ward also slowed on the restart.

 

With 10 laps to go, Rogers and Loden raced hard side by side for the lead with Rogers getting out front. Driving out to a decent lead in the closing laps, Rogers took the checkered flag first.

 

“That was kind of an odd race the way it played out there,” said Rogers in victory lane. “At the drop of the green flag, I couldn’t believe how much everyone was riding. I know you have to save your rear tires in this series, but I thought my goose was cooked racing with “high-side Loden,” who normally doesn’t show up until the end of these things. He showed he had a strong car early tonight and backed off to save his stuff. I paced myself off how Andy was running. When I felt I was hurting my rear tires a little too much I backed off.

 

“The high side was where we needed to be on these restarts. Andy was doing what he needed to do to get another victory. That was really fun racing door to door with him as hard as we could.”

 

Rogers’ first PASS victory was also his first of his 2011 racing season.

 

“This was real important for me to come and win this race. Last week I had an opportunity to win at Concord in the Pro Cup Series, and my brother of all people outran me in that race with 20 to go. It has been a long time since I have had a season without a “W” in the win column statistically, and I was worried that this year would slip by. I can’t thank Robby and Robert Hamke enough.”

 

Loden, who went to victory lane earlier this year at South Boston Speedway, came up one position short of the SoBo sweep.

 

“It was a good run for us,” explained Loden. “Clay just ran a good race and got us there at the end. I thought when we got in front of him we might have had it, but he came on by and was hooked up at the end. Our cross-member was bottoming out, so we will get that fixed and go back to Ace Speedway. I am glad we picked up some points.”

 

During Friday’s practice, Lavender had trouble with his car, forcing the crew to haul it back to the shop, get it fixed, and return on race day. That dedication earned him a third-place finish during the race.

 

“I fell back some (at the beginning) so I would have a little bit of tires at the end, but later on when I tried to go, I didn’t have much,” said Lavender. “We got some lucky breaks and came into the pits to work on it. We were good at the end when we needed to be. Obviously when you come here you want to win, but with the trials and tribulations we had the last couple of days, I am glad to get a good finish.”

 

Clark and Anderson rounded out the top five.

DILLEY FINISHES TWENTY THIRD AT CIRCUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, Monday August 22, 2011: Mark Dilley driver of the No. 9 Rheem/Exide/PartSource/Farwell Racing Dodge finished a disappointing 23 in the 37 car field on Saturday at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

In practice, it started to rain just as the field took to the track and NASCAR brought the 37 car field to pit road to allow the teams to prepare the cars for the wet track conditions.  The rain quit with five minutes left in the practice session and Dilley was able to lay down a quick lap posting the ninth quickest time. The team made several adjustments to get the car where they wanted it, and after practice Dilley commented, “Man we have a fast car, it feels really good and with the changes I think we can get more out of it.”

 

For qualifying, the cars were sent out in two groups, according to their practice times, and each group was given twenty-five minutes to tour the track and post their best times. Dilley was 15th quickest posting a time of 1:08.216 and an average speed of 90.153 miles per hour. 

Before the race Dilley commented that, “The car wasn’t too bad for practice, we didn’t want to push it too hard in the rain, but wanted to see what it would be like if we had to race under similar conditions. Fortunately the sun was shining for qualifying and we got some laps under our belt.”

Dilley would start the NAPA AUTOPRO 100 in 15th on the inside of row eight and with the drop of the green flag settled into 16th. 

Twelve laps in and Dilley was running in 13th when two cars ahead of him made contact and spun out.  This forced everyone to check up and Dilley was hit hard on the left rear wheel when the car behind him didn’t get stopped in time.  No caution came out as everyone was able to continue, but Dilley thought he had broken an axle.  He then made his way to pit road to have the crew check it out.   The team made short work of repairs and Dilley was back on track without losing a lap but was at the tail end of the 37 car field.

Dilley had made his way back into the top 20 with five laps to go, when the No. 9 Rheem/Exide Dodge was spun out by a lapped car.  Again, there was no caution and Dilley lost several spots before he was able to rejoin the field.   Dilley would make up a few more positions before the checkered flag, but ultimately finished 23rd.

After the race Dilley commented, “We just had some bad luck again, we got tangled up in someone else’s mess and had to come to pit road because I thought we may have broken an axle. It was just a rear end locker and we were lucky when the caution came out and we were able to catch up to the field.  Just when we were making up some ground we got hit again it and ruined any chance we had for a good finish. I’m looking forward to the next three ovals, I’ve won on all of those tracks and hopefully we can put on a good show for fans and sponsors.”

The NAPA AUTOPRO 100 can be seen in its entirety on TSN on Sunday August 21 at midnight and Monday August 22 at 1:30 p.m.  TSN2 will also air the event on Sunday August 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Dilley is currently seventh in the NASCAR point standings. The next stop for Dilley and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be on September 10th at Barrie Speedway for the Wild Wing 300 presented by Independent Electric.

Micks Maneuvres Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to Finish Second

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, Monday August 22, 2011: Kerry Micks driver of the No. 02 Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion notched another podium finish at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with a second place finish.

Just as the teams were taking to the track Thursday for their one hour practice session, the skies opened up and it started to rain.  NASCAR brought the field to pit road so the teams could get the cars ready for the wet track conditions. Micks however, knows his way around Circuit Gilles Villeneuve taking the win in 2007, and didn’t let a little rain stop him from laying down some quick laps and posting the second quickest time in practice. 

 

On Friday afternoon for qualifying, the sun was shining and Micks didn’t hold back as he manoeuvred the 2.709 mile road course in a time of 105.985 with an average speed of over 92 miles per hour, a time that would see him line up in third place on the starting grid.

Micks started the NAPA AUTOPRO 100 on inside of row two and after taking the green flag followed the first place car of Andrew Ranger No. 27 into turn one taking the second position from the No. 12 of Alex Tagliani.  Micks was able to stay close to the No. 27 and out braked him heading into turn three but just couldn’t make the move on Ranger.  On lap 8, the two leaders were battling it out with each of them trying to out-brake the other, when they both shot through the grass missing the S-turn.  The two drivers were able to hold onto their cars and carried on running one-two.

The third caution came out on lap 15 and Micks was grateful as the gauges in the No. 02 Ford Fusion indicated Micks had no oil pressure. The #02 Ford driver was running in second and decided not to come to pit road to have the crew check the car and took the green flag again on lap 16.

On the restart Micks was able to maintain the second place position while the No. 11 of Jason Bowles was all over the back bumper of the Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion, allowing the leader, Andrew Ranger, to put some distance between himself and Micks.  With three laps to go Bowles made a move on Micks to take over the second position, but with 2 laps to go Micks would take the second position back from the No. 11 and would hold him off to cross the finish line in second place.

After the race Micks was all smiles as he said, “We were having oil pressure problems with the car, and I was doing everything I could, playing with the breakers and flipping switches. The cautions really helped us out today, but the car itself was amazing and if it wasn’t for the problem with our oil pressure Ranger would have had some competition. When we were running with him on the restarts we could out brake him.”

RPM Speedway...David Hébert remporte la 4e tranche Super Séries 2011 Modifiée !

Samedi avait lieu au RPM Speedway la 4e tranche de la Super Séries 2011 pour la classe Modifiée comprenant une finale de 100 tours. Naturellement, d'autres classes figuraient à l'horaire prévue dont les Sportsman, les Mod Lite, les Midget, les VTT, ainsi que la nouvelle classe les Slingshot.

 

LES MODIFIÉS

          Les conditions étaient exemplaires et une piste très collante comme les amateurs le souhaitent afin d'assister à un spectacle électrisant; encore une fois deux et même trois lignes de courses; nul besoin de vous dire la très grande satisfaction du propriétaire/promoteur Jasmin Péloquin. Chez les modifiés la lutte était très serrée à la course au championnat de la Super Séries 2011 avant le début des hostilités voyant Gino Clair # 22J détenir la première position devant  trois autres compétiteurs ex-æquo en deuxième place ce qui rendait cette quatrième tranche des plus importantes.

 

Naturellement des séances d'essaies chronométrés avaient lieu au tout début afin de départager les groupes pour les qualifications; le meilleur temps enregistré fut celui de François Bernier # 49 qui avait battu de justesse celui de Steve Bernard; ces deux pilotes avaient encore une fois battu le record de piste qui est maintenant à 13,343 secondes pour Bernier.

          Les qualifications suivaient et à elles seules elles valaient le prix d'entrée tellement les compétiteurs avaient le couteau entre les dents connaissant l'importance de la victoire de la finale. Tout au long des qualifications, les bolides étaient accrochés l'un à l'autre en double dans les tournants et ce jusqu'au fil d'arrivée. Steve Bernard et Claude Brouillard # 3 vainqueurs.

          Place à la finale mais juste avant, une courte présentation des pilotes fut faite incluant quelques entrevues avec les pilotes qui avaient le mieux performé jusque là. Dany Bilodeau # 23 sonnait la charge flanqué de Steve Bernard; Yan Bussière # 21 et Mario Clair # 22c suivaient tandis que Gino Clair meneur de la série devait partir de la dernière place ayant eu quelques problèmes avec son bolide lors des qualifications.

          Benoit Savoie signaleur officiel abaisse le fameux drapeau vert et c'est parti pour 100 tours et dès les premiers tours de piste nous pouvions sentir la détermination des pilotes en cause. Bilodeau conserve sa position  mais tour à tour Bernard, Brouillard, Hébert le menacent et parviennent à le dépasser; des duels enlevants se suivent voyant les positions de tête tourner à haut régime. D'autres confrontations se dessinent vers le milieu de peloton avec Bussière, Therrien, Dufault et Gougeon pendant que Gino Clair tente par tous les moyens de se rapprocher le plus possible des meneurs.

          Les spectateurs voyaient défiler les tours avec Steve Bernard et David Hébert toujours accrochés un à l'autre et s'échangeant la première place tandis que mine de rien le # 49 de François Bernier parvint à se hisser bon troisième. Neutralisation avec 25 tours à faire; Hébert a une très bonne accélération au départ et distance quelque peu Bernard et au terme de cette confrontation David Hébert #1h termine bon premier suivi de Steve Bernard et du # 49 de François Bernier. En entrevue d’après course nous pouvions voir la défaite de Steve Bernard malgré sa belle 2e position lui qui ne vise que la première place et Steve  nous a même avoué être mauvais perdant ce qui caractérise bien souvent l’esprit d’un grand champion.

          La série se transporte donc samedi prochain à l’Autodrome Drummond pour l’avant dernière tranche et le tout se terminera à l’Autodrome Granby le samedi suivant soit le 2 septembre où le grand gagnant sera connu ainsi que les pilotes qui formeront le TOP-10 et qui se partageront la bourse offerte pat JPS Sports propriété de Jasmin Péloquin.

         

LES SPORTSMAN

          Du côté des Sportsman, encore une fois des qualifications et une finale 25 tours époustouflante. Jacques Pelletier # 98 et Mathieu Desjardins # 1m avaient assez bien performé pour remporter les qualifications d’usage. Dès le départ de la dernière finale de la soirée des corps à corps dans les courbes 1 et 2 tout comme dans les courbes 3 et 4 surviennent tellement les bolides sont accrochés à la piste mais Pelletier garde la position de tête, Desjardins, Martin Pelletier # 92 et Steve Bernier restent aux aguets pour les 10 tours suivants; Martin Pelletier remonte et force tellement qu’il perd le contrôle de son bolide dans la courbe # 4 et repart à la fin du peloton. La relance s’effectue avec toujours Jacques Pelletier bon premier mais cette fois c’est Patrick Picotin # 48 qui force le peloton et se hisse en deuxième place mais pas pour bien longtemps car Bernier et Desjardins veulent un podium ce qu’ils obtiennent dans cet ordre immédiatement après que Jacques « Smiley » Pelletier ait franchi le fil d’arrivée.

 

LES MOD LITE

          Cette nouvelle série en est à ses premières armes et elle attire déjà l’attention des amateurs tellement les bolides sont beaux et performants. Le # 44 de Patrick Leclerc gagne la qualification et est prêt pour la grande finale de 20 tours. Le vert est donné et Jacques Pelletier, celui-là même qui évolue en classe Sportsman, est premier mais doit se méfier de Stéphane Raymond # 57 qui est bon premier au classement cumulatif avec une légère avance de 4 points. Les tours passent  et Pelletier # 85 est toujours le meneur et parvient au quadrillé bon premier suivi de Patrick Leclerc qui ne cesse d’impressionner depuis le début de la saison et finalement Stéphane Raymond au troisième échelon.

 

LES MIDGET

          Cette série bénéficiait de la présence de quelques bolides de la série Lightning Sprint pour l’occasion mais ces derniers devaient absolument enlever leurs ailerons pour se conformer à la règlementation Midget. En finale, Mathieu Bardier # 12 s’est littéralement envolé sur la piste se moquant littéralement de ses opposants qui avaient les autres positions à leur portée et certains bataillaient farouchement afin de se rapprocher de la deuxième position, la seule atteignable.

Mathieu Bardier traverse la ligne d’arrivée bon premier suivi de René Couture # 6 recrue 2010 chez les Lightning Sprints et par André Bardier # 22 qui a livré une lutte de tous les instants pour monter sur le podium partagé par son fils Mathieu. Il est aussi à noter que ces trois bolides sont très présents aux pratiques du mercredi au RPM Speedway et que les pilotes connaissent parfaitement le circuit ce qui leurs concède un avantage certain.

          Simon Couture # 34 Lightning était un spectateur très attentif à cette finale; Couture a totalement démoli son bolide lors d’une spectaculaire embardée vendredi dernier à l’Autodrome Granby mais sera en piste dimanche prochain au RPM Speedway pour une autre confrontation mettant en vedette les Lightning.

         

 

LES  SLIHGSHOT

          Ces nouveaux petits bolides ont très bien performé malgré la longueur de piste au RPM eux qui sont habituellement habitués aux plus petits circuits tel celui de l’Autodrome Drummond construit au centre de la piste. Carl Labonté était tout fier de présenter les 10 bolides en action samedi et il faut avouer que les pilotes ont réellement bien performé avec leurs bolides munis de petits amortisseurs ce qui facilite grandement la tenue sur la piste. La vitesse était au rendez-vous pour voir Robin Loiselle # 1 RevStar terminer au premier échelon suivi par Gaby Thériault et finalement Isabelle Manny qui sait en impressionner plusieurs par son aisance en piste.

Un grand merci à cette belle série de s’être déplacée au RPM Speedway et certainement que ce se sera pas la dernière; félicitations encore une fois à Carl Labonté.

 

LES  VTT

          Pour l’occasion, Éric Léveillé directeur de courses avait jumelé les bolides de la série Amateur à ceux de la série PRO en un seul groupe pour la deuxième finale disputée après l’intermission. Ils sont braves et presque sans protection si une embardée survient dans un des tournants; ils doivent plus que tous les autres surveiller attentivement les conditions de piste et ils doivent performer en conséquence ce que plusieurs oublient; c’est pourtant un élément de base dans leur cas. Steve Mathieu # 72 s’est octroyé la première place en série Amateur tandis que Maxime Charbonneau # 21 en a fait de même en série PRO.

·         Depuis plusieurs semaines, l’équipe de préparation de piste travaille sans relâche ce qui donne des conditions exemplaires de courses et semaine après semaine des records de piste sont abattus; la sécurité en piste est bien présente et les pilotes de toutes catégories peuvent performer à la hauteur de leur talent.

·         Le RPM Speedway est accrédité DIRT depuis le début de la saison.

Plusieurs des meneurs dans les divers cumulatifs de l’Autodrome St-Valère.com ont profité du quatrième programme présenté par le promoteur André Fortier, hier après-midi (samedi), pour accentuer leur avance au premier rang.

 

C’est précisément le cas de Carl Poudrier de St-Christophe qui était sérieusement menacé par Mario Deneault de Victoriaville. En devançant ce dernier à la ligne d’arrivée pour son troisième succès en quatre tentatives, Poudrier a accentué quelque peu son avance alors qu’en 4 Cylindres + 120, Mario Gosselin de Ste-Hélène-de-Chester, à sa deuxième participation a mis un terme à la domination d’Olivier Landry, lui qui avait une fiche intacte avant ce programme. En terminant deuxième, Landry a augmenté sa priorité au classement, car Mario Champagne de St-Norbert, son plus sérieux rival, n’a pu faire mieux qu’une cinquième place.

 

En 4 Cylindres, on a connu un quatrième gagnant différent avec la victoire de Pierre-Marc Janelle de St-Valère devant Jessy Champagne de Victoriaville et Jean Thibault de St-Valère, celui qui est le meneur dans cette catégorie où l’on compte le plus grand nombre d’inscriptions.

 

Deuxième victoire de la saison pour Vincent Hamel de Victoriaville en 6 Cylindres alors qu’il a eu le meilleur devant Benoît Lainesse de Kingsey Falls et Jimmy Houle de Victoriaville. Dominic Allard de St-Valère qui mène le bal dans cette lutte au championnat, n’a pas été en mesure de compléter l’épreuve tandis qu’en 8 Cylindres, Éric Létourneau de St-Valère a savouré les joies d’une première victoire. Ses victimes ont été Bertrand Hébert de St-Valère et Alexandre Paradis de Victoriaville.

 

Jean-François Morin de St-Albert a profité de cette magnifique journée pour enregistrer sa deuxième victoire du calendrier et ainsi augmenter son avance au premier échelon car, Alexandre Leclerc de St-Albert, son plus sérieux rival pour le titre, a été le septième à franchir la ligne d’arrivée lors de cette finale dans la classe des camionnettes (pick-up).

 

Yves Hamel de St-Antoine-de-Tilly a décroché sa deuxième victoire d’affilée lors de la finale en Pro Stock. Il a eu le meilleur devant Marco Lainesse de Boucherville et Mario St-Cyr de Notre-Dame-du-Ham. Lainesse est toujours au premier rang.

 

À sa première présence en classe Sportsman, Richard Tessier de Victoriaville a savouré les joies d’une première visite dans le cercle des vainqueurs. Il a été suivi au fil par Tommy Therrien et Steve Ramsay, tous deux de St-Christophe alors qu’en Modifié, Francis Labonté de St-Christophe y est allé de son deuxième triomphe de la saison en Modifié.

 

C’est à Caroline Landry de Princeville qu’est revenu l’honneur d’avoir mis un terme à la domination de Catherine Boisvert de St-Christophe, chez les dames en 4 Cylindres. Cette dernière a terminé deuxième devant Marilou Hébert de St-Valère, celle qui domine en 6 & 8 Cylindres. Hier après-midi, elle a pris place sur la première marche du podium pour une troisième fois cette saison.

 

L’avant-dernier programme de l’Autodrome St-Valère.com aura lieu, le samedi 17 septembre prochain.

Roy rockets to 3rd straight Airborne win

South Plattsburgh, NY - Nobody takes it higher and deeper into the third turn at Airborne Speedway than DIRTcar Modified point leader Martin Roy. The Napierville, Quebec driver of the Gamache Trucking No.90 used up some right rear tires with the maneuver earlier in the season, but adjustments have now landed him three consecutive victories. He holds a 16-point lead over defending champion Patrick Dupree with two point races remaining.

 

 Dupree, who started alongside Roy in the sixth row of a 28-car field, got a crack at the winner when the yellow came out with two laps to go, but he couldn’t stay with him when the green was thrown. He closed to Roy’s bumper at the end, but had to settle for second.

 

“My car was too loose, just too loose,” Dupree said. “I couldn’t get to him.” Roy took the lead from early pacesetter Greg Atkins on lap 17 after a red flag for Kris Vernold’s machine. Vernold had just yielded second place to Roy when he hit the tractor tire barrier at the bottom of turn two, broke a spindle and shot off the top of turn two.

 

Dupree sat fourth on the restart, quickly passed Andy Heywood to advance to third and then shot under Atkins for second three laps later.

 

George Foley improved to fourth behind Atkins in the closing laps. Heywood recorded his fourth top-5 finish of the season. Positions 6-10 went to Pat McGrail, Leon Gonyo, Aaron Bartemy, Vince Quenneville and Richard Tisseur.

 

Jamy Begor made the best of some good fortune to secure his first J&S Steel Sportsman win of the season in the Connor Sand Pit/Begor’s Supply No.19. Begor was running fourth when 15-year-old Brandon Atkins’ best race of the season came apart with four laps remaining. Atkins had stayed in the outside lane after finally clearing Shawn Duquette at the front of the field after the pair had raced side by side, swapping the lead for eight circuits.

 

His Northfield Utilities No. 4 got turned around by Howard Stoner, who had just overtaken Duquette for second place. Both cars were sent to the rear. That set the stage for Begor to take over and win by four car-lengths over Bucko Branham. Branham beat Duquette to the line by two feet. Robin Wood was a close fourth, followed by Nick Heywood, Travis Bruno, Jamie Atkins and Danny Sulllivan.

 

“I tried to be in whatever lane was going forward,” Begor said. “The preferred line was the outside. It feels really good to get the win. It’s been a while for me.”

 

Rick Doner of Ausable Forks, the former Mini Modified champion, won a Renegade thriller in a photo finish, besting Joe Warren of West Chazy. Point leader Kevin Boutin was a few feet away in third. Lance Rabtoy and Josh Terry completed the top five. It was Doner’s first career win in the Renegade division.

 

Jason Durivage of West Chazy won the Busch Bomber 25-lap special. Johnmichael Bresette and Dale O’Neil placed second and third.

 

Mini Modified point leader Speedy Bresette denied Erick Sayles’ bid for his sixth win by beating him to the wire for his first win of the season. Kris Clark was third. Josh Laporte and Jamie LaFountain were next in line.

 

The Modifieds will go topless (no roofs) on the progressively-banked Airborne half-mile Saturday, August 27 for the Dick Nephew Memorial presented by Liquor & Wine Warehouse. Also on tap, the make-up of the Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade 50 that was rained out in June.

LOUIS-PHILIPPE DUMOULIN TERMINE AVEC BRIO SA PREMIÈRE COURSE NATIONWIDE

Montréal, le 21 août 2011 - Une première course fort mouvementée en série Nationwide de NASCAR pour le plus jeune des frères Dumoulin, qui rallie l’arrivée malgré de nombreux ennuis à Montréal au Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve (samedi 20 août).

LOUIS-PHILIPPE DUMOULIN FINISHES HIS FIRST NATIONWIDE RACE WITH VERVE

 Montreal, August 21st, 2011 – It was an eventful first NASCAR Nationwide race for the youngest of the Dumoulin brothers, Louis-Philippe,  that managed to see the chequered flag despite several issues on Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

 

 Un changement de moteur a empêché Louis-Philippe Dumoulin à prendre part à la séance de qualification de vendredi. Toutefois, peu de temps avant le drapeau vert, la voiture n°52 Hairfax/DaVinci de l’équipe Means Motorsports était sur la ligne de départ en 41e position.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin a su tirer son épingle du jeu, éviter les ennuis et acquérir de l’expérience en série Nationwide alors que les accidents et neutralisations se sont multipliés en course.

 Le bris de deux crics hydrauliques dans les puits a occasionné des difficultés lors du changement des pneumatiques, forçant Louis-Philippe à s’arrêter à sept occasions. C’était sans compter une panne de carburant qui l’a certainement privé, dans les circonstances, d’un meilleur résultat.

 « Nous souhaitons obtenir au minimum un top-20 voire même un top-15, mais nos nombreux arrêts m’ont ralenti et m’ont fait perdre des positions », a expliqué Louis-Philippe Dumoulin. « Je suis satisfait de ma première expérience en Nationwide et cela augure bien pour la suite, surtout que l’équipe Means Motorsport est ravie de ma performance », a-t-il ajouté.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, instructeur de pilotage, repart à la maison à Trois-Rivières, satisfait d’avoir terminé sa première course malgré les multiples avaries (28e place). Il tient à remercier tous ceux qui ont rendu possible cette première expérience en série Nationwide.

 An engine change after testing on Friday stopped him from participating in the qualifying session later in the day, but not long before the race was green flagged, the No. 52 Hairfax/Da Vinci car of Team Means Motorsports was lined up in its 41st position on the grid.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin avoided the many collisions and incidents that caused numerous caution flags and restarts in the race and cumulated a priceless experience in a Nationwide car.

 The loss of two broken hydraulic jacks in the pits made tire changing a challenge for the team and Louis-Philippe ultimately had to stop on seven occasions. He also ran out of gas by the end of the race, depriving him of what would have certainly been a great result in the circumstances.

 “We were confident to obtain at least at top-20 and even a top-15, but our many pit stops slowed us down and made me lose track positions,” explained Louis-Philippe Dumoulin. “I am satisfied with this first experience in the Nationwide series and the future is looking bright since the team is very happy with my performance,” he added.

 Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, professional racing instructor, returns home to Trois-Rivières with the satisfaction of having completed his first race despite several bumps on the way. He wishes to thank everyone that has made possible this first experience in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Jeff Taylor Handed Second ACT Win at Oxford Plains Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                       ACT-082011

Oxford, ME – Jeff Taylor of Farmington, Maine scored his second career ACT Late Model Tour win at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, August 20. Taylor was running second behind Jeff White, who won the last ACT event at OPS, when White ran out of gas with eight laps remaining.

 

White, the current OPS point leader, and Taylor had broken away from the field following the last restart of the event on lap 93. White clearly had the car to beat as Taylor stuck with him but didn’t have enough to make the pass until White’s ride started sputtering after completing lap 142.

 

Taylor led the final eight laps uncontested and was followed to the line by Austin Theriault and current ACT point leader Brian Hoar. Two-time Oxford 250 winner Eddie MacDonald and Glen Luce completed the top five. TJ Brackett, Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Dave Farrington, Jr., Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., and Randy Potter filled out the top ten.

 

Taylor is already on the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Saturday, September 24) invite list along with Brian Hoar, Nick Sweet, Patrick Laperle, John Donahue, Daniel Descoste, Jeff White, Patrick Hamel, Alex Labbe, Donald Theetge and Kyle Busch.

 

The ACT Late Model Tour heads north of the border next Saturday, August 27 for their 10th event of the season. They will join the Série ACT Castrol for the combination Can-Am 200 at Riverside Speedway in Ste-Croix, Quebec.

Joey Roberts Wins Tiger Tour 100 at Canaan Fair Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                          ACT-082011

Canaan, NH – Joey Roberts of Georgia, Vermont picked up his first career Bond/WIX Tiger Tour win at Canaan Fair Speedway on Saturday, August 20. Roberts started on the outside pole and settled in behind pole sitter Joe Steffen for the first 22 circuits. Roberts managed to take the lead on the restart following the first caution of the 100 lap event.

 

Steffen would challenge Roberts until suffering a flat tire coming to the green on the second restart of the race on lap 47. Steffen would lose three laps in the pits while changing the tire. Current point leader Derrick O’Donnell would take over second and stuck with Roberts over the second half of the event. Roberts had his hands full trying to hold off O’Donnell who at one point got around Roberts and led on lap 49.

 

O’Donnell had to settle for second, followed by 2010 Bond/WIX Tiger Tour Champion Jason Bonnett, Troy Gray and Eric Badore in the top five. Mike Ziter, Mike Martin, Dylan Payea, George May and Tucker Williams rounded out the top ten.

 

The 100 lap event was completed in just over 57 minutes. Fourteen of the 21 cars completed all 100 laps with 17 cars on the track for the checkered flag.

 

The Bond/WIX Tiger Tour will head to Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire on Saturday, September 17 for the fourth event in their five race season.

AIRBORNE : Modified title fight resumes tonight

For Saturday August 20, 2011 AS-081911-1

South Plattsburgh, NY – Ernie’s Discount Tools DIRTcar Modified point leader Martin Roy will try to move closer to the 2011 track championship with his fourth win of the season when the Modifieds return to action at Airborne Speedway tonight at 6 p.m.

 

The Napierville, Quebec driver leads defending champion Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake by 12 points. Tonight’s Plattsburgh Ford/Banker Orchards/Huntley Trucking event is the next-to-last Modified point race of the season. George Foley of Saranac Lake, the 2007 Airborne champion, is still within striking distance, 14 points behind Dupree.

 

A new qualifying procedure for Modifieds begins tonight. A consolation, or “B” feature, will be added to the program and the starting field in the 30-lap main event will be limited to 24 cars. The top five drivers in the point standings - Roy, Dupree, Foley, Andy Heywood and Leon Gonyo - are guaranteed starters.

 

An extra-distance 25-lap feature paying $250-to-win for the 4-cylinder Busch Bombers is scheduled, as well as an appearance by the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers. Kiddie Race Cars Rides begin at 5:30 p.m.

 

The Sportsmen, Renegades and Mini Modifieds will also be in action. Speedy Bresette of Plattsburgh heads up a tight point battle in the Mini Modified division. Bresette leads CJ LaVair of Gabriels 484-476. Five-time feature winner Erick Sayles of Lake Placid trails LaVair by a single point.

 

Grandstands open today at 4 p.m. Qualifying heats begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $12/adults, kids 12 and under admitted free. Members of the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOBA) with ID will be admitted at half price.
