Hebert Retains Point Lead, ACT Turns to Devil’s Bowl

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                            ACT-043013-17

Waterbury, VT – The Merchants Bank 150 at Barre's Thunder Road cranked up the heat on the American Canadian Tour, shaking up the point standings before a key showdown takes place at the Spring Green 113 this Sunday, May 5 at Devil's Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT.

Sophomore sensation Jimmy Hebert, who started the year off with his first-ever ACT victory in the New Hampshire Governor's Cup two weeks ago at Lee, backed up his opening day win with a seventh place finish at his home track, Thunder Road.  ACT Rookie-of-the-Year contender Bobby Therrien was impressive in just his third ACT start with a fifth-place finish after battling up front all day, pushing forward a youth movement that continues to gain traction on the Tour.  With his finish on Sunday he secured a position inside the top ten in overall points, joining young standouts Rowland Robinson, Jr. and Ben Lynch who currently sit seventh and eighth and look to ride their opening momentum into West Haven for the Spring Green 113.

Tiverton, RI's Ray Parent brought home a tenth place finish in the Merchants Bank 150, and looks to Devil's Bowl Speedway to continue his best start to an ACT season yet.  He vowed at the beginning of the year to be a championship contender, and after two races, sits third in the overall points - just 17 markers out of the series lead -as the Tour heads into one of his favorite race tracks.

Defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. climbed to fourth overall after the Merchants Bank 150, righting the ship after a tough start to his season at his home track Lee.  It was last year at Devil's Bowl that Helliwell took the point lead after his first ACT victory and went on to win his first American Canadian Tour Title, but Devil's Bowl has proven to be a tricky venue on the Tour.  In the two years that ACT has raced at the fast half-mile, only two drivers have finished in the top ten in both events.

The stars of the American Canadian Tour will go head-to-head once again at West Haven, VT's Devil's Bowl Speedway for the Spring Green 113 this Sunday, May 5.  Post time is1:30pm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                          ACT-042713
The stars of the American Canadian Tour and Thunder Road's local divisions lit up Barre, VT for the annual Car Show on Saturday, April 27 before heading to The Nation's Site of Excitement for a practice in preparation for the 15th Annual Merchants Bank 150 on Sunday, April 28.

Over 80 stock cars were displayed on Main Street in Barre, VT for Thunder Road's Annual Car Show.  A large gathering of fans were treated to blue skies, driver autographs and pictures, remote-controlled cars, Troy Kingsbury's Race to Read program, and WDEV Radio.  The annual Pit Stop contest featured last year's champions battling to see who could complete the fastest two-tire change.  2012 Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman Champion Bobby Therrien stole the show with a fast time of 32.93.

When the festivities concluded, the Catamount Pipe Band led the Champions of Thunder Road and ACT down the street to prepare for the historic parade up Quarry Hill.  When noon struck, the streets lined with fans and the field came to life to begin their one-mile march towards the Nation's Site of Excitement.

Over 40 ACT Late Model Championship Cars were on hand for the optional practice day.  Northfield, VT's Matt White led the initial practice, while Shelburne, VT's Trampas Demers paced the second.  2011 Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman Champion Derrick O'Donnell showed the way in the third practice, but it was Milton, VT's Eric Chase who set the fastest time of the day in the fourth practice with a blistering time of 13.042.  Demers was also the fastest car in the fifth session.  Other fast cars included Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Jean-Paul Cyr, Travis Stearns, and Nick Sweet.

Shawn Fleury, Mike Ziter, Tucker Williams, and Eric Badore led the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen in practice, while Greg Adams, Bunker Hodgdon, and Alan Maynard ran the fastest times in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks.  No accidents occurred during the 5 hour practice session.

The 15th Annual Merchants Bank 150 will begin with the opening Class Day activities.  The Champions will be honored in front of their peers with the raising of their flags, and the top three Car Show winners from each division will be announced.  Post time is set for 1pm, front gates will open at 10am.  Tickets are $20 for Adults, children 12 and under are free.

MacDonald Files Late Entry to Merchants Bank 150

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                            ACT-042613-16

Barre, VT – Eddie MacDonald, a two-time New Hampshire Motor Speedway winner with the American Canadian Tour (ACT), has entered the Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road this Sunday, April 28, adding to a star-studded entry list for Thunder Road's season opening event.

MacDonald, who finished third at the New Hampshire Governor's Cup ACT season opener, has a long racing resume in New England. He currently races on the K&N East Tour as well as ACT.

"The team is very busy preparing the car for this weekend's race," said MacDonald.  "It was great to come out of the gate with a podium last weekend at Lee, so we can't wait to head to Thunder Road," he finished.

MacDonald will join early-season ACT point leader Jimmy Hebert, ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr., and last year's Bond Auto ACT Invitational Winner Ray Parent as favorites looking for their first victories at one of the Tour's toughest tracks.  Milton, VT's Jean-Paul Cyr and Williston, VT's Brian Hoar, who have 15 ACT Championships between them, are also expected to contend for the opening day win.

The weekend will begin with the annual Car Show this Saturday, April 26 from 9-12am, where all of the Thunder Road division's new cars will be lined up on Main Street in Barre.  The car show will feature remote-controlled racecars, Troy Kingsbury's Race to Read Program, WDEV Radio, and a Pit Stop Contest that will spotlight last year's champions to see who can complete the fastest pit stop.  The Car Show will begin at 9am, and at high noon the engines will fire and the field will be led by the war pipes of Thunder Road -The Catamount Pipe Band – up the hill to the track.

"I think the Car Show is a huge tradition for us at Thunder Road, and there's nothing quite like it in the country," said Co-owner and Promoter of Thunder Road Tom Curley. "It's the sign that spring-time is here, and the racers get the added thrill of parading up the roads in Barre on their way to the Nation's Site of Excitement.  It's a sight to see," he finished.

The following day (Sunday, April 28), the Thunder Road season will kickoff with the 15th Annual Merchants Bank 150.  Post time is 1pm.

DID YOU KNOW?

·         Austin Theriault won the PASS South Series South Carolina Clash 150 at Dillon Motor Speedway on March 9 to become the first Brad Keselowski Racing development program driver to win a race since Landon Cling won at South Boston Speedway on June 9, 2012.

·         Austin Theriault hasn't finished outside the Top-10 in each of the last five PASS-sanctioned Super Late Model races he's entered. Prior to the South Carolina Clash 150 win, he was victorious in a family-owned car in the PASS North Series season finale at Oxford Plains Speedway in October of 2012.

·         Austin Theriault added the Racing Radios 125 at Gresham Motorsports Park to his schedule in order to get more track time in advance of the prestigious World Crown 300 at the facility on July 4. Along with the Snowball Derby, All-American 400 and Winchester 400, the World Crown 300 is part of the “Grand Slam” of Super Late Model racing.

·         Austin Theriault made his first PASS North Series start of the season last weekend at Oxford Plains Speedway and finished ninth in a family-owned car. He will return to the PASS North Series on May 4 for a 150-lap event at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

AUSTIN THERIAULT, Driver of the Brad Keselowski Racing No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Ford Fusion, On returning to Gresham Motorsports Park this weekend: “We've struggled a little bit there in the past, but our main focus is going to be trying to find speed. In the past, that's where we were lacking – just being able to find speed in the car. It's important to be able to carry speed through the center of the corner. Because it has a whole bunch of grip and there's so much banking, it you really have to be able to get through those turns quickly.

“It's a really fast track, and there's a lot of grip. I'm looking forward to getting back there with the BKR team. We've had some good runs lately, and we're looking to kind of rebound after some of our struggles at Nashville (on April 6). It's going to be at the same tire we were on at Nashville, so hopefully we can figure that out and use that race as a test for the World Crown 300 coming up. It's one of the bigger races of the year.”

On how he balances trying to win with trying to prepare for a prestigious race later in the season at the same track: “You go to every race with the intention to win, but sometimes you have to balance risk and reward. It's probably best to risk more in a race where there's not as much on the line. If something's not going to work, it's better to find out earlier than later when there is more on the line.”

On whether the team is at a point where he feels it's capable of winning every week: “Yeah, I think we got to that point early on in the year and we haven't looked back. We've fought through a lot that last year would have been a struggle to fight through. That's what makes a winning team – being able fight through the difficult parts of what comes with racing.”

UP NEXT

Austin Theriault heads back to Maine to join the PASS North Series for the Southern Maine Chrysler Dodge Jeep 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, May 4... Theriault has never made a PASS North Series start at Beech Ridge, though he did collect his first career ACT Late Model Tour victory at the track in July of 2012.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 24, 2013) – Penalties have been handed down to the No. 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team as a result of rule violations discovered in the post-race engine inspection April 23 at the NASCAR Research and Development Center.

Cassius Clark Gets 2013 Started Off Right with Victory in Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 PASS North Event

Dixon, Pastore and Hammar Also Win on Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway

Oxford, Maine (4-21-13) - One year ago, the #77 Hight Motorsports team with driver Cassius Clark were looking for their first PASS North Super Late Model victory.  They got that win in the season's third event and advanced to the role of title contenders by the end of the season.  Clark eventually finished second to Travis Benjamin in the final 2012 PASS North standings.

On Sunday afternoon at Maine's Oxford Plains Speedway, Clark and the #77 team started out their 2013 season with a victory in the Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 PASS North event.  By coming out of the gate with a victory, Clark is already hoping that this might be the season where he can score his first career PASS North championship.

"We were pretty pleased with last year.  We just fell short of a goal there," said Clark.  "We worked hard on things over the winter.  Sitting at home and waiting to race since October has been tough.  Winning was a good way to get out there and knock the rust off."

Clark won the  Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 after coming out on top of a spirited battle with Joey Doiron over the closing laps of the race.  Doiron took the lead for the first time on lap 11 and held down the top spot without much pressure for the next 102 laps.  At that point, Clark took the lead – temporarily.  Doiron edged his way back to the top spot and the two racers battled back and forth until the end of the race.  At the conclusion of the 150 lap event, Clark crossed the finish line ahead of Doiron, Benjamin, Ben Rowe and Bobby Timmons.

"It was a tight race," said Clark.  "We were running door to door and never had any problems.  We never put a doughnut on each other.  We kept each other honest and raced hard.  You can't ask for anything better than that."

"We put on a heck of a show for everyone here," agreed Doiron.

The dogfight between Clark and Doiron capped off an action-packed afternoon of racing which also saw Billy Dixon, Joey Pastore and Ryan Hammar score victories.

The PASS Modified feature race was one where survival was the key to victory.  Dixon wheeled his #33 car to victory lane after early contenders Scott McDaniel, Mike Carignan, Mitch Miller, Mark Lucas and Andy Shaw all encountered various problems.  Dixon took the lead late and stayed out of trouble to score the opening day win.  He was followed to the finish by Scott Alexander and Sumner Sessions.

In the 75-lap PASS Sportsman feature, Pastore led every single lap on the way to victory lane, but it was anything but an easy win.  Pastore had command of the race through its early and middle stages, but a hard charging Ricky Burgess ran him down in the final stages of the event.  Burgess closed to Pastore's bumper over the final 10 laps and even got sideways chasing him on the final circuit, but Pastore held on to score the victory. Burgess finished second, while Carey Martin, Rusty Poland and Dan McKeage completed the top five finishers.

Hammar won the NELCAR Legends feature after a fierce battle with his teammate T.J. Laro early in the race.  Connecticut driver Shawn Buffington joined the fight and finished second to Hammar, while Laro hung on for a third-place finish.

ARCA Heads to Talladega for 51st Running of Int'l Motorsports Hall of Fame 250

For Immediate Release:
Thursday, April 18, 2013

NOTES AND QUOTES

ARCA on the March

Straight from a short-track match at Salem Speedway, the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has a tight turnaround for Talladega. After competing in the 93rd ARCA race at Salem on Sunday, April 28, the series immediately steers for Talladega where the 51st annual Int'l Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 is set for Friday afternoon, May 3.

ARCA Champ Chris Buescher to be Honored at Int'l Motorsports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards champion driver Chris Buescher will be among the list of inductees to be inducted into the Int'l Motorsports Hall of Fame Thursday evening during the Int'l Motorsports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Talladega Superspeedway. Buescher's likeness will officially be added to the ARCA Wall of Fame, which was rededicated with a brand new design just last year. The ARCA Wall of Fame includes an impressive assortment of imagery representing 60 years of ARCA racing dating back to 1953. The ARCA Wall of Champions features all 30 different ARCA champions from 1953 forward, Buescher to be the latest addition.

Eddie Sharp Racing Inks Ricky Erhgott for Talladega
2009 ARCA car owner champion Eddie Sharp will partner with rookie driver Ricky Ehrgott for the ARCA race at Talladega. Ehrgott, who finished third in the Daytona opener driving for Coulter Motorsports, is set to drive the No. 6 Chevrolet for Eddie Sharp Racing at Talladega with primary sponsorship from Platinum Partners Plus. Veteran crew chief Jamie Jones will serve as the team's crew chief.

Venturini Motorsports x 4 at Talladega
Venturini Motorsports is headed to Talladega well stocked with four teams entered, including a No. 15 Zaxby's-sponsored Toyota with Daytona winner John Wes Townley driving. The victory at Daytona was Townley's career-first in ARCA competition, and the first at Daytona for the Venturini family, which has been attempting a Daytona victory for 31 years. Venturini Motorsports has also entered its flagship machine with Baltimore, Maryland rookie Justin Boston behind the wheel of the No. 25 ZLOOP Computer and Electronics Recycling Toyota. Other Venturini Motorsports entries include Caracas, Venezuela's Milka Duno in the No. 35 CanTV-Milkaway Toyota and New Castle, Indiana's Caleb Armstrong in the No. 55 Toyota. Duno qualified second at Daytona in the same car, and led the first 11 laps before mechanical issues stopped her run. Armstrong is the cousin of the 2010 ARCA Talladega winner Dakoda Armstrong.

Venturini Led the Charts in April Testing at Talladega
Venturini Motorsports led the charts in the ARCA open test at Talladega, taking the top-four spots with John Wes Townley the quickest overall with an average speed of 180.264 mph. Milka Duno was second fastest overall. The Caracas, Venezuela driver circled the track with an average speed of 179.625 mph. Caleb Armstrong was third fastest at 179.108 mph, ahead of Justin Boston, who was fourth fastest overall at 178.720 mph.

Former Series Champ Kimmel/Talladega Winners Gerhart, Kimmel Ready for Another Talladega Adventure

Frank Kimmel is the only former ARCA Racing Series champion entered. Kimmel, driver of the Ansell-Menards Toyota, will be making his 20th start at Talladega since 1992. Although the nine-time ARCA champion has 76 career ARCA wins total - second all-time to Iggy Katona's 79 - the second-generation racer has just one win at Talladega, in 2006. Kimmel and Bobby Gerhart are the only former ARCA Talladega winners entered. Gerhart, an eight-time winner at Daytona, also has one win at Talladega, in 2001. Stock car legend James Hylton is also on the win list at Talladega; however, the 78-year-old Inman, South Carolina veteran earned his victory in 1972 in the NASCAR Grand National division (current Sprint Cup Series) in the Talladega 500.

Farewell James Harvey Hylton

James Hylton has announced his retirement from driving race cars. The 2013 season will mark his farewell tour behind the wheel of his famous No. 48. "I've been thinking about this for quite a while," Hylton said. "I'm 78, and the time has come." Hylton made 602 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts since 1964, winning twice at Talladega and Richmond. Since 1997, Hylton has made 146 ARCA starts. Hylton also finished 15th in the ARCA race at Talladega, on the lead lap, in 2009 at the age of 74.

Gerhart Double-Teaming Talladega
In addition to entering his own No. 5 Lucas Oil Chevrolet for the ARCA race at Talladega, Gerhart will attempt to make the starting grid in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Talladega in his own No. 85 Lucas Oil-sponsored Chevrolet Camaro.

All in a Name - Gerhart Bringing old Reliables "Sweet Pea" and "Joe"

Bobby Gerhart, noted for his superspeedway success/savvy, especially at Daytona where he has a record eight victories, is returning to Talladega with some old classics. Still undecided as to which car will be his primary machine and which will serve in the back-up role, the Lebanon, Pennsylvania veteran is bringing cars he calls "Sweet Pea" and "Joe". According to Gerhart, Sweet Pea is his most successful race car in his entire fleet with three victories - two at Daytona and one at Talladega way back in 2001. The car has also three earned Menards Pole Awards presented by Ansell, one at Talladega and two at Daytona. Gerhart will also have old reliable Joe, which won at Daytona in 2007 and 2010. Sweet Pea was wrecked in a multi-car pile-up at Talladega during last year's race, but has been reconditioned for 2013. Gerhart tested both cars in early April. "Both of the cars we tested are former Daytona winners. In fact, there are four Daytona wins between these two cars - two apiece. One of our goals was to find out which car is the best, and leave it at that."

Championship Battle Already Taking Shape - Rookie and a Veteran

Albeit early in the 2013 season, nine-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel and 18-year-old rookie Mason Mingus are neck and neck for the championship points battle. In fact, headed into Salem Speedway, just days prior to the 51st running of the ARCA race at Talladega, Kimmel and Mingus were tied for the lead. It's an odd match-up, a teenager who's still in high school and a grown man with kids graduating from college, yet it's there, as loud and compelling as ever. In plain numbers, 33 years separate Kimmel, who turns 51 on April 30th, from Mingus, who won't be 19 until November. "It's kind of the way it's been over the last decade here," Kimmel said. "If it's not Mason, it's some other rookie coming with all the right equipment and lots of talent. Mason might be new around here, but he's been around for a while. He's driven late models quite a bit, and has shown a lot of promise. I consider him a formidable opponent for sure." A formidable opponent indeed. Mingus, in his first full season on tour, is off to a spectacular start in 2013 beginning with a solid seventh place showing in his Daytona debut, followed by a career-best fourth place finish on the Mobile Int'l Speedway short track where he earned his career-first Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell to boot.

Cunningham Motorsports Takes Two - a Rookie and a Veteran
Cunningham Motorsports, renowned for grooming very successful stock car drivers, is coming with two drivers - veteran Tom Hessert and rookie Korbin Forrister. Current NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series drivers Parker Kligerman, Dakoda Armstrong and Alex Bowman all graduated from Cunningham Motorsports. The operation is headed up by co-car owners Kerry Scherer and Briggs Cunningham. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion crew chief Paul Andrews fields the fleet of Dodges for a wide variety of rookies and veterans.

Rookie Matt Kurzejewski and Keselowski team-up at Talladega:

Mansfield, Penn. rookie Matt Kurzejewski has teamed up with the Keselowski family for Talladega. 1989 ARCA national champion Bob Keselowski will serve as Kurzejewski's crew chief. The union of Kurzejewski and Keselowski is more like a reunion. The two joined forces in 2008 for their first ARCA start together at Toledo Speedway where they finished 18th. Kurzejewski then reunited with Keselowski for this year's Daytona opener where they finished ninth on the lead lap.

Rookie Bo LeMastus pairing up with Geoff Bodine for full ARCA Season

Louisville, Kentucky rookie Bo LeMastus is getting assistance for his first season on tour from NASCAR veteran driver Geoff Bodine, who will be serving in the capacity of coach and raceday spotter for Lemastus's No. 42 Crosley Radio Dodge. LeMastus is CEO of Crosley Radio, which manufactures vintage electronics under the Crosley brand. LeMastus recently purchased the complete inventory from Mark Gibson Racing for the 2013 ARCA Racing Series season. LeMastus's racing background includes 20 years in AMA motorcycle racing and five years of SCCA road course racing.

Alabamans Entered
Currently, Fairhope, Alabama's Grant Enfinger and Mobile, Alabama's Thomas Praytor are the only Alabamans entered. Enfinger is one of the more recent ARCA winners with his victory at Mobile Int'l Speedway in early March.

Expected Entries

Expected entries also include the defending car owner ARCA champions Roulo Brothers Racing with rookie driver Mason Mitchell in the driver's seat, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers Brennan Newberry and Sean Corr, Martinsville Speedway track president Clay Campbell (Spraker Racing), ARCA veteran Mark Thompson (Turner Motorsports), and Will Kimmel (Kimmel Racing).

Event Coverage also includes Live Timing & Scoring at ARCAracing.com

All of the on-track activity at Talladega will be featured in Live Timing and Scoring at ARCAracing.com. The event is also live on SPEED TV and live at WTDR Thunder 92.7 FM radio.
