It was a triumphant start to Steve Robblee's return. After he won the pole with a time trial lap of 18.974, the defending Late Model champ told us his back was feeling a lot better and that the 28's seat held him in and offered support during the race. During the first NASCAR Late Model feature, Robblee gained a half-straightaway lead on Scott Lindsay (20) who was quickly overtaken by Ron Sheridan (52). Lindsay turned on the heat to regain his lost second spot but he never did manage to do it. The first caution came at lap 13 as David Elliot (37) went for a spin. Elliot brought the car in to pit for a sway bar adjustment. The 69 of Lloyd Rawlings also came in to pit, but it was unrelated. On the restart, Doug Stewart (2) got caught up as someone hit the brakes and there was a chain reaction. Stewart took some front end damage when he ran into Jay Doer driving Jay Christie's #5. It's just another in a string of mishaps for the teacher's #2 this season. At lap 19, David Elliot (37) and Shawn Thompson (72) connected in some tight racing on the back straightaway. Whitworth Towing took Elliot's car in and Thompson went back out to finish. A lap later a crash on turns three and four brought Whitworth and the safety crews out again. Matt Pritiko (21) appeared to have been running a bit low and started to spin. , Gord Shepherd (10X) ran into him and, Jamie Grover (33), Andrew Gresel (81) and Marc Jacobs also spun. The right hand side of Shepherd's car was torn off. Pritiko's back end was crunched. Some hastily applied duct tape and Pritiko was able to get back out before the green flag. Stewart also rejoined the race at this time. (Shepherd was able to make it out to start the second NASCAR Late Model feature but pulled back into the pits early on.) Another caution at lap 22 as Lloyd Rawlings (69) spun on turn two. They say cautions breed cautions and at lap 23 another caution was born as Shawn Thompson's 72 spun on turns three and four. Robblee held on through it all and took the win. Ron Sheridan was second and Scott Lindsay third. Mathew Box was fourth; Jamie Ramsay, fifth. In the second NASCAR Late Model feature, Andrew Gresel (81)kept onto the lead from the green flag through the first caution at lap five, for a spin by the 33 of Jamie Grover. By lap eight, Steve Robblee was making a hard run, seemingly out of nowhere, and landed in second. Gresel had a healthy lead on the rest of the pack but lap by lap Robblee chipped away at it. Meantime, it was Sheridan and Lindsay battling again – this time for the right to hold fourth place, which Lindsay had and Sheridan wanted. At lap 17, on Gresel's bumper, Robblee caused a gasp in the crowd with a wobble at turn one but he held on and kept up his assault on the 81. But the 28 just didn't have enough for the 81 and Andrew Gresel held Robblee off for his first ever win at Delaware Speedway. Robblee had to settle for second. Jamie Ramsay landed in third and Ron Sheridan fourth. Fifth place went to Matt Box (27). Powerade Modifieds had three leaders, no cautions and Paul Shipway (88) who was fifth in points heading into the night, rode to victory lane. Shipway took the lead from Stephen Richmond (24) at lap two who had taken it almost immediately from pole-sitter Tony Viera (6). Shipway was followed by Jamie Cox (3) and Justin Demelo (82). The best line of the night came from 4th place finisher Barry Newman (1), commenting on how spread out the lead cars were. Newman said he was so far behind he thought he was winning! The first half of the Demar Aggregates Trucks feature had three different leaders. The last half had just one, Jeff Showler (56) who took the checkered flag. Mickey Brydges (17) had the pole for this caution-free 25 truck lap race. At lap 3 he was overtaken by Mark O'Connor, driving the #7 of Derek Clark. Chad Rijnen led laps five through thirteen before Showler took it over. Points leader and defending champion Paul Fothergill made his move into the top five by the race's halfway mark and fifth is where he would stay. With Showler (56) expanding his lead over Rijnen (16), the battle was on for third with former points leader Gary Adriaensen (55) occupying the spot and Michelle Koricina (99) wanting it badly. In the next lap Adriaensen solidified his place as Koricina slid back a few positions. She finished 6th. Showler rode to Victory Lane along with Rijnen in second place and Gary Adriaensen, third.
