Maryeve Dufault; Tony Marks Racing Solid In Pocono Debut

LONG POND, Pennsylvania (June 13, 2011) - - ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year candidate Maryeve Dufault had an impressive showing in her Pocono (Pa.) Raceway debut continuing her Tony Marks Racing (TMR) team’s run of consistent finishes in the Pocono ARCA 200.

 

Never have seeing the defying 2.5-mile triangle before practice on Friday morning, fellow Dodge teammate and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kurt Busch offered the Sorel, Quebec native a private tour around the “Tricky Triangle.” Undoubtedly, the advice paid off.

 

In practice, Dufault in her No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger mounted the 17th fastest practice lap. Throughout practice, she showed massive improvement which climbed the freshman team through the running order.

 

The TMR team led by Darren Wolfe and Ryan Chism elected to make minor changes to her No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger hoping to give her a little more speed in Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying. In time trials, Dufault found more speed and negotiated a 15th place qualifying position, a career best in seven races.

 

The strategy for Dufault and her TMR team was to learn and finish the race.

 

Through the race’s first 15 circuits, the No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger maintained a spot in the top-15. With the leaders on a torrid pace, Dufault would lose a lap under green but would fight off her other challengers for the Aaron’s Lucky Dog. The caution flag waived on lap 17, with Dufault rightfully earning her lap back.

 

A solid pit stop by the TMR team would return the former NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competitor into the top-15. With light rain falling and fog present though, the caution period extended over the next 12 laps, and initially, ARCA officials decided to drop the green flag on lap 32. After restarts to begin laps 32 and 33 were aborted, officials instructed drivers to drive down pit road to close lap 35 where the red flag would be issued as everyone waited for the fog to lift. 

 

A short time later, the cars would be re-fired and moved from pit road. The green flag would fly on lap 38 with Dufault on the move. Making work of her challengers, Dufault would move into the 13th position when the caution flag would waive on lap 50. The team followed the leaders and made the trip to pit road for four tires and fuel. Dufault called for no adjustments as she was very comfortable with her race car.

 

Restarting the event on lap 57 in the 12th position, Dufault would get yet another lap under her belts before a caution flag waived two laps later for again dense fog around the facility. Red flag conditions would again adorn the field but ultimately the fog would force ARCA officials to consider the race complete on lap 59 with Dufault scored in the 12th position.

 

“It was a very good day for Tony Marks Racing, VR-12 and Dodge,” said Dufault, who notched her fourth top-15 finish in seven races. “I learned a lot this weekend that will help us when we come back in August. Tony (Marks, owner) did a great job spotting and the team was strong in the pits. I’m happy with a 12th in my first Pocono start. Hopefully we can keep these solid finishes going.”

 

As for Marks, who played a double-duty role at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, he was exceptionally pleased with the outcome. “It was nice to see the progress of Maryeve from start to finish this weekend,” he said. “Darren, Ryan and the whole TMR team did a great job giving her a competitive car that she was able to maneuver through a very difficult track in some uncharacteristic conditions.”

 

With her finish on Saturday, Dufault remains 10th in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings after seven races.

 

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is round eight of nine on the 2011 schedule. The RainEater Wiper Blades 200 from the two-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway is set for Friday, June 17th at 5:00 p.m. Eastern live on SPEED. Dufault will make her inaugural debut at the track nestled in the “Irish Hills.”

SÉRIE SPORTSMAN QUÉBÉC - RACE NO2

Le champion en titre de la Série Sportman Québec, Sylvain Labbé, a remporté au combiné deux segments disputé le 11 juin au Riverside Speedway de Ste-Croix-de-Lotbinière.

 

Les vainqueurs en qualifications ont été  Simon Roussin, Rock Poulin et Eric Giguère.

The defending Champion in the Sportsman Quebec Series, Sylvain Labbé, won the combined two segment race held at Riverside Speedway/Ste-Croix on June 11.

 

The qualifying race winners were Simon Roussin, Rock Poulin and Eric Giguere.

Les deux finales (51 et 49 tours) ont été remportées par Sylvain Labbé et Réjean Blanchet.

 

Une fois la comptabilité terminé, Sylvain Labbé, Pier-Luc Labbé et Steve Lesage ont monté sur le podium.

RPM Speedway...Chris Raabe.nouveau record de piste !

Nous avons eu droit à une journée très venteuse, nuageuse au possible et à quelques gouttelettes d'eau ici et là ce qui a sans doute ralenti les ardeurs de plusieurs fans de courses sur terre battue; Jasmin Péloquin et toute son équipe du RPM Speedway voulaient absolument faire des courses et ce avec des conditions de piste exemplaires….ce qui fut fait !

          Avant que la pluie ne vienne mettre un terme au programme, les tours de réchauffement, les qualifications de toutes les classes et deux superbes finales STR et Mod Lite furent présentées aux amateurs.

 

LES MODIFIÉS

          Les conditions étaient remarquables et une piste très collante comme les amateurs se souhaitent afin d'assister à un spectacle électrisant. Chez les modifiés, Claude Brouillard # 3 et Kevin Hamel # 13 avaient devancé leurs adversaires lors des qualifications. Clément Therrien, Chris Raabe et Claude Brouillard furent les trois premiers au départ suite à une pige devant le grand estrade pour la première des deux finales prévues de 40 tours.  

 

          L'accélérateur à fond, la jeune recrue Chris Raabe # 01 (Naapanee, Ontario) prend la pole position et file en avant de peloton à une vitesse folle pour ainsi battre l'ancien record de piste de 13.844 qui était détenu par Claude Brouillard pour l'abaisser à 13.758 secondes.

          Cette épreuve n'a pu être complétée dû à la pluie et cette finale sera complétée à une date ultérieure en ajout d'un programme déjà cédulé et avec seulement les pilotes inscrits à cette épreuve qui auront une place pour le départ. La date de reprise vous sera dévoilée sous peu dans un prochain communiqué. Naturellement, la deuxième finale n'a pas eu lieu et ne sera pas reprise.

 

LES SPORTSMAN

          Du côté des Sportsman, seules les qualifications ont pu être terminées et les détails de la finale reportée seront eux aussi connus dans un prochain communiqué. Le bolide #48 de Patrick « Pico » Picotin s’est très bien comporté pour en remporter la qualification. Plusieurs autres pilotes étaient présents dont l’unique et spectaculaire Steve Bernier # 25. Jacques Pelletier # 98, un habitué du RPM, était pour sa part au volant d’un bolide Mod Lite.  Le prochain programme des Sportsman aura lieu le 2 juillet prochain.

 

LES MOD LITE

          Cette nouvelle série en était à sa toute première apparition officielle au RPM Speedway et 10 bolides s'y sont présentés afin de récolter le premier drapeau à damier. La qualification fut l'affaire de Jacques "Smiley" Pelletier au volant du bolide # 85. Des bolides qui composent cette série, 4 nous provenaient de la région de Gatineau.

          Une finale complète fut présentée et comme on s’y attendait, Jacques Pelletier # 85 en est ressorti gagnant suivi de Stéphane Raymond # 57 et Patrick « Patleck » Leclerc # 44 qui agit à titre de recrue et est déjà en bonne voie de se mériter les grands honneurs.

          Un spectaculaire carambolage est survenu lorsque des bolides se sont frôlés pour voir Alain Piché # 16 faire pas moins de 6 tonneaux avant de s’immobiliser à quelques pas de l’ambulance et des remorqueuses. Tant qu’à « flipper », c’est la meilleure place!

LES STR

          La série « voyageur » STR était aussi de la partie ainsi que leurs petits frères Slingshot; Carl Labonté agit à titre de leader pour cette série croissante et qui évolue sur plusieurs pistes au Québec. Qualifications et finales complétées chez les STR voyant le pilote de la région de Sorel se mériter les grands honneurs sur un tracé idéal pour ces bolides à l’alcool. Il a eu fort à faire pour maintenir sa position et terminer bon premier; le # 28 de Yanick Poirier a terminé au deuxième échelon et Jonathan Archambault # 24 bon troisième. Il s’agissait du deuxième podium de Yanick Poirier cette fin de semaine, se méritant cet honneur le vendredi à l’autodrome Granby.

Midget, Mini-Modifiés et Mod Lite !

 

Dans la groove….     

·         Super Séries au RPM le 25 juin pour une finale Modifiée de 100 tours.

·         Selon les amateurs, très nette amélioration côté restauration.

·         Des emplacements pour camping sont à votre disposition avec bois pour feu de camp gratuit.

·         Le RPM Speedway est maintenant accrédité DIRT.

 

Super Séries 2011

          La Super Séries 2011, composée de 6 épreuves distinctes de 100 tours chacun chez les Modifiés, comporte 2 segments disputés au RPM Speedway la première se tiendra le samedi 25 juin prochain…mettez ce spectacle à votre horaire.
