Stewart-Haas Racing Names Regan Smith

Interim Driver for No. 41 Team at Atlanta

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Feb. 23, 2015) – Stewart-Haas Racing has named Regan Smith interim driver of its No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet SS for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend Feb. 26-March 1 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Smith will begin driving the No. 41 car during the open test session on Thursday. The race on Sunday will be Smith's seventh Sprint Cup start at Atlanta. His most recent Sprint Cup start at the 1.54-mile oval was on Sept. 2, 2012 when he finished 14th.

Atlanta will be Smith's second race in the No. 41 car. He drove the Haas Automation Chevrolet to a 16th-place finish last Sunday in the Daytona 500. Smith already had some history with Stewart-Haas Racing prior to Daytona. He subbed for Tony Stewart in the team's No. 14 car last August at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.

Smith was the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year and won the 2011 Southern 500 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. He is a fulltime driver in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and finished second in the 2014 championship standings. Smith, 31, is from Cato, New York.

An interim driver for the No. 41 team at next weekend's Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and subsequent races has not been determined.

Pre-Season Hard Work ‘Shows’ for Peterborough Speedway

Pre-Season Hard Work 'Shows' for Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke. Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

For close to half a century, motorsports fans in Central Ontario have looked to one specific venue as their source of entertainment. From humble beginnings – with cars built in backyard garages, with equipment and parts acquired from the local salvage yard – to today's high-tech, mass-produced machines, the racing world has grown and continues to thrive on a tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road west of the Liftlock City.

Whether your introduction to competition at the venue eventually nicknamed Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval came via the original Westgate Speedway banner or under its current moniker, Peterborough Speedway has been in continuous operation since 1967 and has claimed an enviable position on motorsports landscape. Under the direction of current owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse beginning with the first green flag of the 2000 campaign, the track is a popular Saturday night destination throughout the region.

"We've had a great run over the years and show no signs of slowing down," said Josiasse. "This will be my 16thseason at helm and we have an amazing team in place to give our supporters an action-packed campaign. From the ticket takers, to the popcorn makers and the drivers in each of our divisions, we're all working toward a common goal of giving our fans outstanding value for their entertainment dollar."

Peterborough Speedway's 2015 schedule kicks off Saturday, May 16th when Country 105 presents the opening ceremonies and a full night of racing with free spectator grandstand admission and action in the 4Fun, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Thunder Car, Late Model and Legend divisions and a fan appreciation autograph session at intermission.

Fans can get details on this year's full calendar when the track participates in the first ever Canadian International Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo – Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 13th to 15th – at the International Centre in Toronto. There will also be pre-season displays April 10th, 11th and 12th at the 37th annual Kawartha Home, Cottage and Country Show at the Evinrude Centre in Peterborough and April 12th through 18th at the Lindsay Square Shopping Mall.

"Some people might have the impression that there isn't much going on between the end of one season and the start of another, but nothing could be further from the truth," stated Josiasse. "Actually, once the green flag flies, things settle down a little, but there is always something happening and things that need to be done. Operating a speedway is far from a Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00 proposition."
