Bryan Mercer Adds Another 2nd Place Peterborough Speedway Finish to His 2017 Resume

Bryan Mercer Adds Another 2nd Place Peterborough Speedway Finish to His 2017 Resume

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Chasing checkered flags at the local race track, in front of your family members, friends and fans is a lot of fun. During Peterborough Speedway's 2017 season, few drivers have enjoyed the experience as much as Port Hope, Ontario's Bryan Mercer. Saturday, July 29th, the 44 year-old second-generation wheelman put another runner-up finish into his back pocket with a strong performance in the track's Organics & Glass Late Model 30 lap feature event.

Faced with the somewhat daunting task of taking the initial green flag from the outside line, Mercer played the waiting game and looked for the chance to get to the bottom groove. Settling into 3rd spot, he found his racing rhythm and turned-in some solid, consistent laps in pursuit of the next position in the running order. Patience has been a key to Bryan Mercer's success this year and his team is reaping the benefits on and off the track.

"Sure, I'd like to win every race; who wouldn't," said Bryan Mercer. "I don't call it settling, but there is nothing wrong with finishing in the top 5. We're able to roll the car into the trailer in one piece at the end of the night and the crew can perform routine maintenance, instead of fixing body panels and other crash damage during our time in the shop. It's a more positive experience for everyone."

The leaders caught the tail-end of the field with about 7 laps on the board, with the front trio logging some quick laps. With just over a handful of circuits remaining, Mercer saw an opening and managed to wrestle-away the second spot, holding station there until the main event's checkered flag waved.

"Its been a great season so far and I'm happy to be in the championship hunt with the Late Model division running just 4 regular season events before the end of the year."

Earlier in the event, Bryan Mercer won the night's first heat race and finished second in the next round of qualifying.

For the 2017 season, Bryan Mercer's program is supported by Sine's Flooring, Durmach Tooling, Beyond Signs & Design, Cressman Tree Service, Glass One Autoglass, Facility Services, National Shunt Services, MASS Environmental, Everwood Property Maintenance, Murray O'Brien – Re/Max, Eric's Auto Body and Pioneer Gas Bar – Port Hope. Clarke Motorsports Communications provides media and public relations services for the #81 Late Model team.

Bryan Mercer returns to action Saturday, August 12th at Peterborough Speedway. Follow the team behind the scenes and at the track by liking the Mercer Motorsports page at www.facebook.com.

Title Hopes on the Line at Times Argus Mid-Season Championships

Title Hopes on the Line at Times Argus Mid-Season Championships

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                         TR072517-39

<<ATTACHED PHOTO (tr07201735.JPG): Hinesburg's Bobby Therrien (#5VT) tops the Thunder Road Late Model point standings heading into the Times Argus Mid-Season Championships on Thursday, July 20, while Barre's Jason Corliss (#66VT) will be one of the drivers trying to chase him down on double-points night. (Alan Ward photo)>>

Barre, Vt. – Barre's Thunder Road closes out the month of July with the annual Times Argus Mid-Season Championships this Thursday, July 27. Double points will be on the line in all events for the Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks, giving the night the potential to be a deciding factor in many drivers' championship hopes.

All three divisions will run extra-distance features, highlighted by a 75-lap main event for the Late Models. But with twice as many points going to all positions – including 150 points for the feature winner versus 75 points for winning a regular weekly event – drivers know they will need to get to the front in order to maintain their spot in the standings or to make a move.

"There's always some added hype coming into the Mid-Season Championships because of double points on the line, and it's close at the top right now between us and Trampas (Demers)," Late Model point leader Bobby Therrien. "The key to having a good night is to be mistake-free. That's obviously the biggest part both as a driver and as a team. We've got to go in there and know that we need to execute like we have the first half of the year because that's what's gotten us in the position that we're in."

Hinesburg's Therrien holds a 29-point lead in the standings over South Burlington's Trampas Demers on the strength of a Memorial Day Classic win, three second-place finishes and four semi-feature victories. But Demers has been hot of late, winning the Vermont Governor's Cup on July 13 and posting three other top-five finishes in the last four events.

Barre's Jason Corliss earned his second feature win of the season last week to vault to third in the standings. Eric Chase, defending "King of the Road" Scott Dragon, Darrell Morin, Marcel J. Gravel, and Kyle Pembroke are among the other drivers who could vault into serious title contention with a strong performance this Thursday.

In the Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, 2015 Champion Brendan Moodie of Wolcott has been the class of the field with eight top-five finishes in nine events. He currently holds a 27-point lead over 1991 Champion Dwayne Lanphear of Morrisville, who has racked up six top-five results in his own right. 2014 Champion Jason Woodard, leading rookie Jaden Perry, last week's winner Mike Martin, and two-time 2017 winner Trevor Lyman all sit within striking distance should Moodie and Lanphear stumble on double-points night.

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks have been closely bunched all season and remain so heading into the Mid-Season Championships, with just 52 points separating the top-12 in the standings. 2015 Champion Jamie Davis of Wolcott enters the event holding a five-point advantage over Fairfax's Alan Maynard, with cousins Brandon and Reilly Lanphear close behind. Drivers such as Cooper Bouchard, Kevin Streeter, and Gary Mullen could also vault to the top of the charts.

Qualifying for the Times Argus Mid-Season Championships goes to post at 7:00pm on Thursday, July 20. In addition to added distance and double points for the Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks, fans will get the chance to meet their favorite competitors during the annual driver autograph session. Admission is just $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).

22 RACING TEAMS POST STRONG FINISHES AT EDMONTON

22 RACING TEAMS POST STRONG FINISHES AT EDMONTON

July 31. 2017:  The final leg of the three race Western Canada swing for the NASCAR Pinty's Series teams took place on Saturday night at Edmonton International Raceway.  Alex Tagliani would enter the race as the defending race winner for the Luxxor 300 while Donald Theetge would make his inaugural start at this ¼ mile bullring.

After the hard crash at Saskatoon on Wednesday night, the #18 Tagliani EpiPen/Lowes Canada/St-Huberts crew worked furiously on the off days to get the car ready for the 300 lap event.  During practice, they had some minor issues that caused Tagliani to be slower than expected and the 15th quickest time was the best they could do.

Donald Theetge in the #22 Circuit Acura/Le Soliet/L'Antidote Media Dodge likes this type of track and he didn't disappoint. After running the entire practice session in the top five he finished up the session in 2nd position.

After making the necessary changes to the #18 Tagliani machine he went out to qualify with the result being the 3rd quickest time.  Theetge in the #22 would follow that up with the 4th fastest result lining them up side by side in row two for the start of the 300 lap event.

Starting on the outside on this track is very challenging and you can find yourself shuffled to the rear of the field quite easily but Tagliani & Theetge both managed to get down to the bottom quickly.  They ran in the top six for most of the first 150 laps when NASCAR threw the mandatory caution for pit stops.  When they relined up on track for the final 145 laps, Theetge was scored in 3rd and Tagliani in 8th.  On the resulting restart, Tagliani was accessed a drive through penalty to which there has been no full explanation as to why but he was able to maintain the lead lap albeit at the tail end. He would then start his march back to the front pack. Theetge would continue battling with Labbe, Kennington and Lacroix eventually taking the lead on lap 193.  He  continued to share the lead with Labbe & Lacroix until the caution flew again on lap 278 when NASCAR deemed that Labbe was the leader, a ruling which the 22 team vehemently challenged but to no avail.  The final laps were very exciting for the fans as Theetge challenged for 1st and 2nd and Tagliani continued to pick off his competitors gradually moving up through the field.  The final scoring would give the #22 of Donald Theetge 2nd place and the #18 of Tagliani a 4th place result.

While a 2nd and 4th are great finishes, neither driver was happy with the NASCAR decisions that were made during the event.  However, they will both move on to their next events knowing that they have cars to run up front and challenge for the wins.  Tagliani will compete next at Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres in two weeks, while Theetge will be behind the wheel of the #22 next for Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, NS on Aug. 19th

The Luxxor 300 from Edmonton International Raceway will be televised on Sat. Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. ET.

Tremont Back-To-Back at Devil’s Bowl Dirt Track

Tremont Back-To-Back at Devil's Bowl Dirt Track

Murray makes it three straight in Super Stocks

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                                 DBS-073017-1

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Kenny Tremont Jr. keeps stacking up victories at Devil's Bowl Speedway.  The veteran stock car driver put on a clinic at the 3/10-mile Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl on Sunday, July 30, winning his second-straight NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race on Brown's Quarried Slate/Brown's Orchard & Farm Stand Night.  Other winners during the event included Chris Murray, Chris Conroy, Aaron Mulready, and Bill Putnam.

Tremont, of West Sand Lake, N.Y., started 12th in the 35-lap feature race for the Central Vermont Motorcycles division and quickly moved forward on the smooth, dry-slick track.  Hard-luck driver Jimmy Ryan took command at lap 4 after polesitter Tomas Kimball spun out, and ran the best race of his season, but was no match for Tremont and gave way at lap 22.

Tremont blistered the pack over the final 13 circuits to wrap up his second consecutive win at Devil's Bowl and third on the season.  Ryan held on for a season-best runner-up finish, turning his campaign around in fine shape.  Tim LaDuc bounced through two crashes but drove a fast car to the front and ended the race in third place.  Justin Comes rode the outside lane to fourth place, and Randy Howe completed the top five.

Unofficially, LaDuc and Tremont vaulted past previous championship point leader Vince Quenneville Jr., who crashed early and finished 12th after rejoining the field several laps behind.  LaDuc's 434 points lead Tremont (419) and Quenneville (416).

Chris Murray of Fair Haven, Vt., made it a three-peat to sweep the month of July in the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Super Stock division, winning the overall top prize in an exciting two-segment race.  Bill Duprey won the first 15-lap leg to earn one "segment point" in the cumulatively scored race, with Murray taking two points in second place ahead of Curtis Condon, Scott FitzGerald, and Lou Gancarz.

After a full-field invert between segments, Murray and Duprey put on a wild show coming from the back of the pack with several three-wide moves in traffic.  Duprey spun out with three laps left, but Murray soldiered on to win the segment over FitzGerald, Josh Bussino, and Matt Mosher; Duprey rebounded quickly to finish fifth.

Murray's combined low two-segment score of three points (2nd + 1st = 3 pts.) topped all others and gave him the overall victory.  FitzGerald (4th + 2nd = 6 pts.) finished second overall, with his better second-round finish breaking a point tie with Duprey (1st + 5th = 6 pts.).  Bussino and Mosher, each with 11 points, completed the official top five finishers.

Chris Conroy of Newport, N.H., scored his first win of the season in the 15-lap Portland Glass Mini Stock race.  Conroy took the lead from 14 year-old rookie Johnny Bruno on lap 3 and never looked back.  Bruno took a career-best runner-up finish, and fellow rookie Dakota Desabrais ran third in only his fourth appearance.  Chris Charbonneau extended his championship lead with a fourth-place effort, and Tim St. John was a season-best fifth.

Aaron Mulready of Buskirk, N.Y., wasted little time in earning his first Devil's Bowl win, taking the 15-lap race for the Catamount Mini Sprints in just his second start at the track.  Fresh off a stint in the U.S. Marines, Mulready stole the lead from Austin Chaves with only two laps remaining.  Chaves and Colby Beinhaur – each just 15 years old – finished second and third, respectively.  Nadine Coates was fourth, and 12 year-old Cody O'Brien was scored in fifth place for his best showing.

Bill Putnam of Chester, Vt., won a fun final round in the annual Street-Legal Spectator Races, driving his 2000 Subaru Impreza to victory over a wild-driving Tim Whitney of Cornwall, Vt.; Whitney was broadsliding his 2003 Pontiac Sunfire through the corners trying to reel Putnam in, which thrilled the grandstand crowd.

Devil's Bowl Speedway kicks off a busy month of August on Wednesday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m. with the third round of the Wednesday Night Drag Racing Series.  The 1/2-mile oval Asphalt Track is in action on Saturday, August 5, at 7:00 p.m. with the sixth annual "C.J. Richards Memorial" event, and the 3/10-mile Dirt Track cranks back up with double features in all divisions on Sunday, August 6, and 6:00 p.m.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of U.S. Route 4, Exit 2.  For more information, visitwww.DevilsBowlSpeedwayVT.com or call (802) 265-3112.  Devil's Bowl Speedway is on Facebook at @DevilsBowlSpeedway and on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat at @DevilsBowlSpeed; follow the action using the hashtag #DevilsBowl.

Jocelyn Roy Credited with DIRTcar Pro Stock Win at Autodrome Drummond

Jocelyn Roy Credited with DIRTcar Pro Stock Win at Autodrome Drummond

Posted: 30 Jul 2017 08:04 AM PDT

The DIRTcar Pro Stock tour top-three from Autodrome Drummond on July 29 prior to post-race technical inspection.

By Martin Belanger

Drummondville, QC, CAN – July 29, 2017 – Last-minute decisions can pay off sometimes. CD Beauchamp decided on Saturday morning to travel to Autodrome Drummond for the DIRTcar Pro Stock tour event. He took the lead in the early portion of the Feature and resisted a last minute charge to claim the win. Unfortunately, Beauchamp was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Second-place finisher Jocelyn Roy was declared the winner.

Beauchamp said following the race he was surprised to see Roy battle him in the final laps

"I really thought I was alone, I saw Roy pulling next to me and I said 'uh oh', but I was able to win," Beauchamp said. "I will try again (Sunday) at Cornwall."

Roy battled hard to finish in the second position.

"I came here to win," Roy said before learning of the disqualification. "I tried everything in the final moments. I can't thank my team enough for all the hard work put in on the car today. We will be back tomorrow night to aim for the win."

Rob Yetman was also satisfied with his podium result as the third-place finisher.

"I thought I could finish in second tonight but the 48 of Roy surprised me. All in all, it is good for the Series points," Yetman said. "We already have something planned for tomorrow night (at Cornwall)."

Pascal Payeur and Jeffrey Lapalme were on the front row of the 50-lap event as Payeur took the lead over the field of 22 Pro Stock machines with Yves Hamel is second and CD Beauchamp in third. A good battle occurred between the three drivers for the lead as they parted ways with the rest of the field with 10 laps in the books.

Beauchamp was strong on the inside and challenged Payeur for the lead before both collided a bit on lap 13 without any damage as Payeur held the lead. The first caution came out on lap 19 as Francois Adam slowed on the backstretch.

On the restart, Beauchamp took the top spot as he got a great jump with Payeur and Hamel in the top 3 as Dan Older and Rob Yetman completed the podium. Yetman had a strong run on the top and was quickly moving up to second spot as the flagman showed the halfway signal to the field.

As Beauchamp kept his distance from Yetman for the lead, Roy made his way to fourth as the event reached the 30-lap mark. Roy then moved up to third as Payeur faded to fourth with less than 20 laps to go.

Roy had the fastest car on the speedway at that moment and passed Yetman for second on lap 36. Both drivers were side by side for a few laps as Roy was able to pull away from the current series high point man, Yetman.

Roy gained some ground on Beauchamp with less than 10 laps to go and was on his back bumper, but could not complete the pass before the checkered flag.

The DIRTcar Pro Stock tour will end a busy weekend as the drivers will travel to Cornwall Motor Speedway tomorrow evening for the sixth round of the Series. Race time for the 50-lap event is 6:00pm.

Autodrome Drummond Notebook

A good field of 22 cars signed-in for the fifth round of the tour. Ten of the top 11 drivers in the DIRTcar Pro Stock series championship were in the pits. Local standout Stephane Lemire had the quickest time in the time trial session with a lap of 20.282 seconds.

1- Charles-David Beauchamps * 2- Jocelyn Roy
3- Rob Yetman
4- Pascal Payeur

5- Dan Older
* C.D. Beauchamps sera disqualifié suite à l'inspection

Finale Sportsman 32 tours

Cayden Lapcevich a terminé troisième devant Tagliani.
