Turning Some Hot Laps Under the Warm Sun at Peterborough Speedway

Turning Some Hot Laps Under the Warm Sun at Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Race fans got everything they could possibly want from a late spring Saturday night at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. The lightning quick Can Am TQ Midgets joined the hometown favourites in the Mini Stock, Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Renegade Truck and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions for a stellar show Saturday, June 13th.

Feature race action got underway with a 20 lapper for the Mini Stock field, as Ross Couture and Darryl Anthony paced the pack to the Great Canadian RV green flag. With just a single lap on the scoreboard, the yellow flag flew for a turn 2 incident involving Anthony and Brandon Hannah. With 6 laps complete, Paul Hannah and Dwight Lavoie came together on their way into the 3rd turn in a crash that also collected Brandon Hannah. On the restart, Kevin Strutt and last week's feature winner Tyler Junkin were in control of the field. With a late race pass, former track champion Ryan Oosterholt took the checkered flag over Tyler Junkin, Kevin Strutt, Donovan Price and Paul Hannah.

Steve Foster and Amanda Connolly – each making their first starts of the year, brought the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Models to the stripe for a 25 lap headline dance. With a pair of laps on the board Kevin Buscher, Matt Spence and Cole McFadden were involved on the front stretch. Near halfway, Steve Foster took control the issue, but gave up the top spot to Ryan Kimball with 14 laps down. As the lap counter rolled 16 complete, the yellow flag flew again as Bryan Sudsbury spun on the backstretch. On the same caution period, Jack Horner headed pit-side for a quick fix. Kimball would restart flanked by Foster, with Dave Morgan and Tyler Betts a row behind. A hard hit by Spence and Al Shepstone into the 3rd turn wall saw the red flag displayed, but neither driver was injured. There was hard racing throughout the field as Kimball took the win. Morgan, Mark Gordon, Betts and Foster finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

With Ray Schroer and Jeremy Kelly on the point, the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun teams were set for a 20 lapper. Ryan Oosterholt jumped out to an early lead – of sometimes as much as a half a track – with Schroer and Cody Fenton filling out the top 3. The yellow flag flew with 12 complete for debris in the 2nd turn. Over the closing stages, Oosterholt maintained his advantage, but Matthew VanDerBelt was closing quickly on the leader. The driver of the #69 would take the win by the width of a front bumper, over Oosterholt. Sean Kennedy, James Townsend and Tiffany VanDebelt completed the top 5.

A pair of former track champions – Bill O'Hara and Jack Dallin – brought the Renegade Truck division starters from the staging area for their 15 lap main event. A number of yellow flags sorted out the finishing order, with Jack Dallin taking the win over Tim Burke. Chris Burridge, Jordan Dallin and Bill O'Hara Jr.

The night's final feature event of the night belonged to the Can Am TQ Midgets, who brought 17 starters to the line. After surviving a late race yellow flag for an incident between Todd Cresswell and James Marche, Mack DeMan took the win over Darren McLennan, Ryan Fraser, Brandon Zavarella and Lucas Smith. Follow the series through their 50th anniversary season at www.canammidgets.com.

Qualifying heat race wins went to Ryan Oosterholt, Brandon Hannah, Steve Brier and Dwight Lavoie in the Mini Stock field. Bryan Sudsbury, Tyler Betts, defending track champion Ryan Kimball and Jeff Toms took the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model preliminary rounds. Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun qualifiers went to Sean Kennedy with a pair, Cody Fenton and Matthew VanDerBelt. Jack Dallin and Tim Burke shared the Renegade Truck division opening rounds. Darren McLennan and Adrian Stahle took the Can Am Midget heat races. Mack DeMan won the 'B' Main last chance qualifier.

Bullring bullet points: Peterborough Speedway regular John Ferguson pocketed the $461.00 payoff in the 50/50 draw…The 3 Parkes Racing cars in the 4Fun division were all in attendance, but with different drivers due to a family commitment…Several drivers including Brad Lavalle, Donovan Price, Matthew VanDerBelt and Cody Fenton participated in the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series 'Test a Mod' program earlier in the day.

Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval hosts action with the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and INEX Ontario Legend divisions Saturday, June 20th. Pit gates open at 3:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and the night's first green flag at 6:00.

JF Dumoulin - Credit Christian Auger

Sunset Speedway (Innisfil, Ontario) – The Leland Industries 300 présenté par Johnsonville

Veteran Wins Historic 100th Canadian Tire Series Race

For Immediate Release

Hathaway Celebrates A Milestone Victory

Veteran Wins Historic 100th Canadian Tire Series Race

VALLÉE-JONCTION, Quebec, Canada (June 13, 2015) – Jason Hathaway said prior to the Budweiser 300 that to win the 100th race in the history of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 would be something special.

He was able to do just that Saturday at Autodrome Chaudiere.

After race leader Scott Steckly experienced mechanical trouble battling Hathaway for the lead while leading on Lap 270, Hathaway sailed the final 30 laps to score his second consecutive win at the track and first of the season in the historic event.

The St. Thomas, Ontario, native is one of three drivers – along with DJ Kennington and Steckly – to start all 100 events in the series, which began in 2007.

Pole sitter Alex Labbe was able to close the gap on Hathaway in the final laps before settling for second. D.J. Kennington, Andrew Ranger and Alex Tagliani completing the top five.

Hathaway qualified 13th for the race. He quickly drove his No. 3 Fast Eddie/Brakeworks/HGC Chevrolet into the top five just past halfway of the race and was challenging Steckly for the lead by Lap 189.

Steckly had led a race-high 154 laps and was at the point following the race's final restart, but his car began smoking on Lap 269. He wound up 16th.

Steckly's issues opened the door for Hathaway to pick up his sixth career NCATS win.

Anthony Simone finished sixth, followed by Gary Klutt, Larry Jackson, Joey McColm and defending series champion L.P. Dumoulin.

Klutt and Hathaway both have 84 points after two races, two points ahead of third-place Kennington. Ranger is eight points behind the leader and Dumoulin another three points back.

The Budweiser 300 will air on TSN Saturday, June 20 at 12 p.m. ET and also on RDS2 Friday, July 3 at 10 p.m. ET.

The next race for the series will be the Leland Industries 300 pres. by Johnsonville at Sunset Speedway on June 20.

STECKLY LEADS MOST LAPS AGAIN BUT COMES UP A FEW LAPS SHORT

STECKLY LEADS MOST LAPS AGAIN BUT COMES UP A FEW LAPS SHORT

Sunday June 14, 2015, Vallee-Jonction, QC:  Steckly headed to Autodrome Chaudiere for the second event of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season with hopes of a top finish to keep him near the top of the point standings.  Making his 100th start in the series (one of only three drivers to make all 100 starts) he hoped to be on the top rung of the podium to celebrate. But after leading the most laps for the second race in a row he came up a few laps short of the finish.

The Canadian Tire Canada's Garage Dodge was very quick right from the start.  Steckly was at the top of the charts for both practice sessions and laid down a lap in time trials good enough for the 6th starting position.  "We messed up a little on our time trials but we know the car is good as we practiced on old tires and were posting times as quick as other teams who had put new rubber on.  We will be good for the race."

At the drop of the green flag for the Budweiser 300, Steckly was on a mission.  He gradually picked off the five competitors in front of him and on lap 109 took over the lead.  After a competition caution at lap 153 for tires and fuel, the Canadian Tire Dodge lined up on point again.  Steckly would continue to lead until lap 265 of the 300 lap event when a small part failure caused them to finish a disappointing 16th.  "We know we build great cars so that's a positive," said Steckly after the race.  "Sometimes you can do everything right and something small like this takes you out.  We have been the quickest and led the most laps on both a road course and an oval this year so our day will come – just not today."

The 22 Racing Team have a week to get ready for the inaugural NASCAR event at Sunset International Speedway in Innisfil, ON next Saturday June 20th

Scott Steckly and 22 Racing Team are supported by Canadian Tire, MAXIMUM Tools, Mobil 1, Erb Group, AW Millwrights, Reefer Sales & NOCO Lubricants.

Fans can follow Scott Steckly throughout the season on his website at 22Racing.ca or on Twitter @ScottSteckly22 or you can Like the 22RacingTeam Fan Page on Facebook.  For team updates on Scott and the other 22 Racing team entries follow us on Twitter @22RacingTeam.

The Budweiser 300 will air on TSN Saturday June 20th at 12 p.m. EST and RDS on Friday July 3rd at 10 p.m.

#47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare Car - Credit Matthew Murnaghan

LP Dumoulin - Credit John R Walker

Sunset Speedway (Innisfil, Ontario) – The Leland Industries 300 présenté par Johnsonville
