Brandt Graham Returns to Asphalt Late Model Action at Peterborough Speedway

Brandt Graham Returns to Asphalt Late Model Action at Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Not every racer looks at an off weekend as a chance to relax.

After following RUSH Late Model dirt track events as part of a 2-car team with his father, Brandt Graham sees a break in his 2023 schedule as the perfect chance to find another place to race. The 25-year-old from Orono, Ontario will load the team's No. 14 asphalt equipment into the hauler and head to the Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night – Saturday, July 1st – at Peterborough Speedway.

No stranger to the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval – where he raced in the Mini Stock division and picked-up wins during his back-to-back Ontario Sportsman Series championship seasons – Graham is looking forward to the chance to race close to home. While the team's dirt track starts have been south of the border, this weekend's Peterborough Speedway green flag is about half an hour away from his front door. The driver says he's looking forward to heading back to the popular Central Ontario oval, where he scored a 3rd place finish earlier this season.

"I had some great runs there earlier in my career and Dad has trophies from his 6 combined Thunder Car and Late Model championship seasons in the shop. Its always been one of our favourite places to run," explained Brandt Graham. "We made some great friends in our years there and considering this weekend's event is Fan Appreciation Night with $4.00 grandstand admission, I'm looking for the opportunity to make some new ones."

Following Brandt Graham's Canada Day Peterborough Speedway return, Graham Racing's next date on the RUSH Late Model tour will be Saturday, July 15th at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Whether on blacktop or dirt, the team is proudly supported by Hot Rod Swag, Arcade Pools & Spas, Beavis Excavating & Haulage, White's Equipment Service and Training, Chrontario, Dig Tech Infrastructure, GOAT Transport, Full Circle Automation, PJ Larkin Salvage and Clarke Motorsports Communications.

Family, friends and fans can follow Craig and Brandt Graham and the Graham Racing team throughout the 2023 season at the track or by visiting www.graham98racing.com, @Graham_Racing or www.facebook.com/graham98racing.

Treyten Lapcevich Scores Third Win of 2023 in Epic Newfoundland Finish

Treyten Lapcevich Scores Third Win of 2023 in Epic Newfoundland Finish

Avondale, N.L. – Treyten Lapcevich sailed away with his third win of the 2023 at Eastbound International Speedway, in a spectacular 250-lap event.

Out of the first four events of the year, Lapcevich has an average finish of 1.25 and has led a total of 590 laps, 69 of which came during the PRO●LINE 250.

"We had to earn that one, that's for sure," said Lapcevich. "We never stopped adjusting, came down during one caution, and made a lot of adjustments at the break too."

The only race that Lapcevich has not won this season, was the previous race at Autodrome Chaudiere, which was won by defending champion Marc-Antoine Camirand.

"We had to serve a penalty because I jumped the initial start," said Camirand, after finishing second. "We made an adjustment at the halfway break, and then the car was a lot better."

Lapcevich was able to survive a late-race restart with five to go, holding off the No. 96 GM Paillé/Chevrolet Canada Chevrolet of Camirand, who restarted alongside Lapcevich and Alex Labbe in the No. 24 Evirum/Home Hardware Ford.

Labbe, making his first start of the season, subbed for Thomas Nepveu who had a previous racing commitment, finished second, barely beating Camirand to the line.

"We didn't need that long red flag, I felt like the tires cooled off. It took a little for my stuff to get going," said Labbe. "But we fought hard, I think I got second place by like 0.005 of a second, it was a big drag race off of four on the last lap."

J.P. Bergeron, who finished 10th in the No. 1 Prolon Controls/Rousseau Metals Ford, sustained major damage following a crash with the No. 23 Oceanex/Miller Lite/Make-A-Wish/Wing N It Chevrolet of Brandon McFarlane.

Both crews made repairs to their cars and were able to continue, but multiple drivers who led laps during the race faced problems.

Pole sitter Donald Theetge in the No. 80 Groupe Theetge Inc/XPN Chevrolet, retired from the race after only 57 laps, marking his second retirement due to rear-end issues in two races.

Andrew Ranger, a teammate to Camirand, had several problems throughout the day, including a spin on lap 64, and eventually finished 17.

During the spin, Ranger was able to avoid contact and get the car going in the right direction without the need for the officials to throw a caution.

The No. 9 Leland/GMS/RGC/Shear Metal Products Chevrolet of Bandon Watson spun out with 30 to go after leading 33 laps earlier in the day.

Following the spin, the No. 9 ended up leaking fluid on the track causing a long red flag to clean up.

Alex Guenette came home fourth, with Kevin Lacroix in fifth after he led the most laps of the race. Alex Tagliani, Larry Jackson, L.P. Dumoulin, Dexter Stacey, and J.P. Bergeron rounded out the top-ten.

The PRO●LINE 250 Pres. by your Chevrolet Dealers will air tape-delayed on TSN on Saturday, July 1 at 3:00 p.m. ET and on RDS2 on Saturday, July 8 at 11:30 a.m.

Cinq pilotes terre-neuviens inscrits

NASCAR Pinty’s Series News & Notes: NASCAR Pinty’s Series Returns to Newfoundland & Labrador with Excitement

NASCAR Pinty's Series News & Notes:

NASCAR Pinty's Series Returns to Newfoundland & Labrador with Excitement

The NASCAR Pinty's Series haulers have arrived on the island of Newfoundland & Labrador for the PRO●LINE 250 Pres. by your Local Chevrolet Dealers at Eastbound International Speedway.

Just shortly after 10 a.m. NDT, the Series and team haulers disembarked the MV Atlantic Vision in Argentia, N.L., and headed towards the Confederation Building, downtown St. John's.

The haulers will remain there until early Friday (June 23, 2023) morning, when they head to the track for the weekend.

On Friday evening, fans can head to downtown St. John's for the Official Welcome Party on George Street for live Q&As with the series drivers, an autograph session and live music. The event is free to attend and starts at 6:30 p.m. NDT with the concert beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m.

After the checkered flag for the PRO●LINE 250 has fallen, the winner of the race will head back downtown to George Street, for a special trophy presentation in front of fans and the city of St. John's.

Five Newfoundland Drivers Entered

As the only asphalt oval in Newfoundland and Labrador, Eastbound International Speedway has become the main destination for drivers and fans in the province.

Last season's race featured only two local drivers, Sara Thorne and Brandon McFarlane who made their first career starts.

Thorne made series history last year when she became the youngest female to make a start in the NASCAR Pinty's Series.

Now in the second annual event in the province, five Newfoundland locals are entered in the PRO●LINE 250. The five drivers are also the only rookies entered in the event.

McFarlane and Josh Collins have already completed two races this season at Sunset Speedway and Autodrome Chaudiere, while 19-year-old Thorne will be making her first start of 2023.

Two more Newfoundlanders, Wayne Hanlon Jr., and Owen Groves will be making their series debut.

Alex Labbé Subbing for Thomas Nepveu

Due to a previous racing commitment, Thomas Nepveu will not be racing this weekend at eastbound.

Piloting the No. 24 Envirum/Home Hardware Ford instead will be 2017 Series Champion and current NASCAR Xfinity driver, Alex Labbé.

Last year, Labbé made two in the NASCAR Pinty's Series, at Circuit ICAR where he finished fourth and Delaware Speedway, where he finished sixth.

Labbe has been racing part-time in the Xfinity Series, where he has finished 11th twice in seven starts so far this year.

NASCAR Pinty's Series etc.

Reigning race winner, Marc-Antione Camirand, who also just won the previous race at Autodrome Chaudiere, will be a fan favourite and look to go back-to-back on Saturday.

However, the No. 96 team was given a P4 penalty following the race, due to a technical infraction found during post-race inspection, resulting in the loss of 18 driver points, demoting Camirand to fifth in the standings.

The PRO●LINE 250 Pres. by your Local Chevrolet Dealers at Eastbound International Speedway will stream live on TSN+ in Canada and on FloRacing in the United States at 4:15 p.m. NDT on Saturday, June 24, 2023. The race will broadcast on tape-delay on TSN (TBD) and on RDS2 on Saturday, July 8 @ 11:30 a.m. ET

Autism Awareness Night Returns June 24th at Peterborough Speedway

Autism Awareness Night Returns June 24th at Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

By its nature, the sport of short track stock car racing can be described as a rough and tumble – and sometimes, even aggressive – spectator attraction. Saturday, June 24th fans at Peterborough Speedway will get to see the softer side of Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval as the track plays host to an Autism Awareness Night. President of CNAF – the Canadian National Autism Foundation – Tina Fougere says its all about having family fun for a great cause.

"Kid's Race is about accepting our loved ones with Autism," Fougere said. "We couldn't ask for a better place in Central Ontario to host our special event. The wonderful people at Peterborough Speedway have opened their doors and more importantly, their hearts to our cause."

Kid's Race was started in 2010 as an idea to create a new platform for Autism research and awareness. It wasn't too long after speaking with – and working alongside track owners, officials, drivers, crews and fans – that a common bond was formed. Everyone associated with the event quickly realized that passion, dedication, family and a love for what they do is something that everyone shared. Peterborough Speedway owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says that Autism Awareness Night – Saturday, June 24th – is an informative and educational event for everyone who comes through the gates.

"Our drivers, teams, crew members, sponsors and fans are quick to throw their support behind a worthwhile cause," Josiasse said. "Even if a member of your family hasn't been affected by autism, you probably know someone who has. Whatever you can do to help the Canadian National Autism Foundation is a win-win for everyone involved,"

To learn more about Kid's Race, visit www.kidsrace.ca or call 888.977.RACE (7223). The Canadian National Autism Foundation website is www.cnaf.net.

On track action for Saturday, June 24th at Peterborough Speedway will feature the home track SwitchTire Mini Stock, KOD Disposal Late Model, Kingsway Auto Centre Junior Late Model divisions, plus the Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series and the Qwick Wick Fire Starter Can Am TQ Midgets. Pit gates will open at 2:30, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and racing at 6:00.

Pro Late Model & Super Stock Travellers Share Peterborough Speedway Stage

Pro Late Model & Super Stock Travellers Share Peterborough Speedway Stage

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Strong car counts were the order of business as the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock and Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck divisions were joined by the touring APC Pro Late Model and Qwick Wick Fire Starter Super Stock fields as KOD Disposal presented a great night of action at Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval.

With 20 laps on the table, Kyle Gordon and Paul Boundy brought the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck field to the Great Canadian RV green flag. Gordon took the lead early, with Boundy putting the 'Superman' pick-up on the inside lane. As the previous week's feature winner, Chad Strawn started deep in the field but had moved to 5th at the time of a caution for debris with less than a handful of laps complete. Gordon continued to lead on the restart, with Strawn marching toward the front after a battle with Shawn Murray. As the frontrunners caught the tail-end of the field, Strawn was closing on the leader but ran out of time. Reigning track champion Kyle Gordon picked-up his 2nd win of the year, with Boundy, Murray and Jordan DesRoches rounding-out the top 5.

Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock teams came to the stripe nearly 15 cars strong, with John Bates and Sean Kennedy on the front row for a 20-lap feature tilt. The field got off to a strong start but the pace was quickly slowed by yellow flag with just 3 laps on the scoreboard. Kennedy and newcomer Jacob Booth began fighting for the lead on the restart, with Booth taking the position with 6 laps complete, with Mark Griffin and Jacob Kelly joining the battle at the front of the pack. The leaders encountered slower traffic with about a handful of laps remaining. While Booth and Griffin were the first cars across the line, both were discovered to have violations in post-race inspection. Jacob Kelly was credited with the win over Kennedy, Tegan Stanley, Calvin Reesor and Christen Lavalle.

After the pre-race inversion, Shawn Chenoweth and fast-time qualifier Anthony DiBello came to the Qwick Wick Firestarter Super Stock green flag with 50-laps to settle the score and open the first date of the tour's 2023 schedule. Chenoweth – who has always had some strong runs at Peterborough Speedway – led through the early stages and had DiBello and Lane Zardo looking for a chance at the leader. A red flag with just over 20 laps complete for track clean-up provided a break in the action but Chenoweth was back in charge on the restart, with Carson Nagy joining him in a 2-car breakaway. A yellow flag for an incident in the 3rd turn changed the outcome, as Nagy was the new leader on the restart. He held-off a late race charge from Zardo and Miles Tyson for the win. Gord Shepherd and Chase Pinsonneault completed the top 5.

Blair Wickett and Shawn Chenoweth were on the front row for the APC Auto Parts Centre AP Emissions Technologies 100. From his front row starting spot, Wickett led the early stages of the 100-lap headliner, with Kyle Steckly taking over the top spot with 15 laps complete. His time at the point was hardly a walk in the park, with some hard chargers including hometown favourite Ryan Kimball and 2020 series champion Jo Lawrence looking for the win. Just passed the halfway mark, Steckly had built-up about a half a track's lead, with Lawrence holding-down the runner-up position. With about 5 laps remaining, teams at the front of the field were split into 2 groups, with Steckly and Lawrence being chased by Jake Sheridan and former Peterborough Speedway Mini Stock runner Danny Benedict. Steckly managed to keep Lawrence in his rear-view mirror to claim the checkered flag. Benedict got around Sheridan for 3rd, with Shawn Chenoweth taking 5th.

For complete event details and schedules for the APC Auto Part Centre Pro Late Model and Qwick Wick Fire Starter Super Stock tours, see www.apcracingseries.com.

Chad Strawn, Stacy Switzer, Kyle Gordon and Paul Boundy shared the Renegade Truck qualifying heat wins, with Sean Kennedy, Jake Kelly, John Bates and Tegan Stanley each claiming a Bone Stock preliminary round checkered flag.

All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review as well as post-race safety and technical inspection.
