REWIND - 2ND ANNUAL ACT INVITATIONAL

Le gagnant Joey Polewarczyk.
Race winner Joey Polewarczyk

The 43 drivers and teams of the American Canadian Tour once again experienced one of the best moments of their competive careers when they raced in the 2nd ACT Invitational race at Loudon, NH's New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

In front of over 50 000 fans young Joey Polewarczyk took home the honours and the winner's trophy, probably the most important win of his career.  He was not the only driver smiling from ear to ear.  Wayne Helliwell Jr who had as an objective walking in to erase last year's poor finish was very happy with second.  Jamie Fisher, who drove a Breast Cancer livery car, was ecstatic with a third place finish considering his sub stellar season.  JF Déry, a self admitted budget racer, has everything to be happy about with a 6th place finish.  Young rookie Alex Labbé was very pleased with a 20th place finish.  David Michaud was still riding on the cloud of getting his invite to the race.  And there were many others.

Patrick Hamel n'a pu compléter un tour.
Patrick Hamel couldn't complete a single lap.

Nick Sweet

Brian Hoar (#37vt) & Eddie MacDonald (#17MA)

Of course, for each of these great stories there is an equivalent sad one.  Patrick Hamel who does not complete one lap.  Nick Sweet, 2010 King of the Road, who ends up in the retaining wall probably just ended his season of racing... missing out the Milk Bowl classic.  JP Cyr who retires after only 25 laps.  Brent Dragon who does not complete the distance due to engine woes.  Brad Leighton, the driver with the most NHMS wins, couldn't do better than 28th.  Ontario driver Dan McHattie who lead a majority of laps faded in the last part of the race to finish 9th.  If the majority of drivers would be pleased with a top five finish, Brian Hoar and Eddie MacDonald will surely examine what prevented them from a podium finish.

In other Quebec drivers news Patrick Laperle who started 23rd was victim of a bump from behind by Scott Payea, during the second caution, which sent him in a spin.  He blended back in 32nd position and finished 10th.  With his charge back to the front it is easy to imagine he could have mixed it in with the others for a podium finish.  Karl Allard finished 12th, in an issue free race, but I am convinced he would have hoped for a top 5.  Donald Theetge finished 20th, looked much better than he did last year, but its difficult to think he had an expected better.

Jamie Fisher (#18vt) battles with Dan McHattie (#71) for the the lead.

The race was entertaining for fans.  At the front, McHattie and Fisher battled for the lead.  The addition of 10 laps to this year's edition allowed Polewarczyk, Hoar and MacDonald to come from the back.  As per Tom Curley, negociations for next year, dreams of extended the race to 100 laps, which would include pit strategy.  NHMS even asked Curley to come twice, but Curley doesn't think he can guarantie 43 starters.  And let's not forget should a "big one" occur in June what the impact would be.  Not every team has 2 cars or can afford to rebuild one.

Once or twice at NHMS... if the program consists of one similar to that of this weekend, which included NASCAR Camping World Trucks, the NASCAR Wheelen Tour Modifieds and ACT, all for 40$ its difficult to ask for more.
