Laperle and MacDonald Enter 51st Milk Bowl

Laperle and MacDonald Enter 51st Milk Bowl

                                                ACT Champion Helliwell Withdraws Entry

For Immediate Release                                                            ACT – 093013-64

Waterbury, VT – Quebec’s Patrick Laperle and the “Outlaw” Eddie MacDonald from Rowley, MA are the latest entries in the 51st Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl, to be held at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6, 2013.

Newly crowned ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. from Dover, NH and his Bruce Bernhardt team have withdrawn their entry from the event. “Our sponsor backed out so we don’t have the money to make the Milk Bowl weekend,” the 2013 Champion said.

Laperle is a three-time winner of the ‘toughest short track’ race in North America and will seek his 4th win in the fall classic on Sunday, October 6, 2013. When the hard charging three time Série ACT and 2008 ACT US Champion was asked why he was coming to this year’s Milk Bowl, Laperle said, “The money! Ten Thousand ($10,000.00) to win is a lot of money. I am excited to try out the new American Racer tire too.”

MacDonald, fresh off his third Bond Auto ACT Invitational win at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway two weeks ago, will look for his first win when he tackles the high banks at the ‘Nations Site of Excitement’.

The Booth Bros. /Hood qualifying day is Saturday, October 5, 2013. All teams will qualify under the clock for starting positions in the traditional triple 50 lap qualifying races to be held Saturday. Thunder Road’s Bond Auto Tigers and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will also have the unique experience of time trial qualifying for the ‘mini Milk Bowls’ to be held on Sunday, October 6, 2013.

Thirty teams will make up the starting grid on the tricky quarter mile on top of Quarry Hill and will compete in three 50-lap dashes, with the final two segments inverted. Combined lowest scores of the three segments will win over $10,000.00 and hoist the milk can trophy before kissing the ‘beauty queen’, a genuine Vermont Ayrshire dairy cow.

Gates will open both days at 10am. Post time each day is 1:00. Adult tickets for the Peoples United Milk Bowl are $30 for two days and $25 for Sunday only. Kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge.

DELAWARE: Championship Night Recap

Championship Night Recap

Sept 28, 2013
Delaware Speedway PR
View Online with Photos (Available for use) https://delawarespeedway.com/?p=12401

Championship night is always special at Delaware Speedway and the 2013 edition was no exception.  Drivers of the weekly divisions made up for lost time after last week's rain out and arrived anxious to run one last event in chase of the championships.  The winner of the V8 Stocks feature and the unofficial champion of his division was Derek McCullough (#38) of Glencoe. Trevor Collver (#51) of Lucan finished first in the Demar Aggregates Trucks feature (his first win of the season), while Gary Adriaensen (#55) of Belmont is the unofficial championship winner. The Coca-Cola Super Stocks Race was won by Shae Gemmell (#3) of Dorchester.  Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin claimed the unofficial championship. The FT Garage Late Models feature was won by Stephen Richmond (#24) of Appin (his second career Late Model victory), while the unofficial championship winner was Jamie Cox (#22) of Dorchester, his tenth Delaware Speedway title and first in the Late Models.

Stephen Richmond (#24) of Appin won the FT Garage Late Models 40-lap race. Doug Stewart (#2) of London led the first twelve laps of the race when Richmond took the lead and held it to the end. All eyes were on the battle between Jamie Cox (#22) of Dorchester and Matt Pritiko (#21) of London.  Cox brought a solid points lead to the night that went up in smoke after a heat race crash.  Coming into the feature Cox's lead was down to a slim seven-point margin.  Finding himself starting at the back, his championship rival Pritiko found himself involved in a lap one collision that sent him to the back and the fight for the championship was on.  Cox, although passed by Pritiko, managed to keep him in his sights for the remainder of the race: enough to clinch his tenth Delaware Speedway title, his first in the top-tier FT Garage Late Model series.

Shae Gemmell (#3) of Dorchester took home the checkers in the 35-lap Coca-Cola Super Stock feature after taking the lead on the second lap. Kenny McNichol Jr. (#17) of Exeter placed second and Kris Lawrence (#28) of London placed third. Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin unofficially won the 2013 points championship but was unable to bring his vehicle to victory lane for photos.  The reason: his car caught fire during his celebratory donuts after blowing a power steering line.  The Delaware Speedway safety crew was able to extinguish the fire and the trophy presentation was able to take place.

Trevor Collver (#51) of Lucan won the 25-lap Demar Aggregates Trucks feature.  The win was particularly special for the team who has struggled with terrible luck all season long.  Gary Adriaensen (#55) of Belmont finished second and in doing so unofficially claimed the points championship for 2013.  The championship is Adriaensen's second in a row in the truck class. Brady Smith (#39) of Coldstream placed third in the race. Collver held the lead from lap one but kept the position despite Smith's and Adriaensen's furious attempts to push forward.

Derek McCullough (#38) of Glencoe won the 35-lap V8 Stocks feature as well as the unofficial points championship. Steve Arrand (#37) of Ailsa Craig placed second and Gary Zwygers (#93) of Cambridge placed third. Before the feature Arrand and McCullough were tied for points and Zwygers was only eight points behind.

Championship weekend continues tomorrow with the GAW Recycling Enduro and the Bone Stock Chaos Cars. The gates will open 1:00 PM and racing will start at 2:00 PM. The season will wrap up on October 19 with the annual Pumpkin Smasher. There will be races for the Bone Stock Chaos Cars, Open Ontario Four Cylinders, and GAW Recycling Enduro. There will also be a demolition derby.  Full event details are available on the track website.

PASS North Series: Austin Theriault

Oxford Plains Speedway Race Report

OXFORD, Maine – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, finished 25th in the PASS North Series Ripley & Fletcher Ford 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, September 28. Theriault suffered flat right-side tires on two different occasions after racing his way into the Top-5 by the midway point of the event. Though the AT Racing No. 57 Pelletier Ford/Daigle Oil Ford raced up as high as sixth on the track by the time the checkered flag flew, Theriault was four laps down and unable to recover from the earlier setback. Theriault qualified ninth out of 48 cars in the field and started 13th by virtue of PASS' handicapping procedure.

AUSTIN, WHAT HAPPENED ON LAP 78?

We had just gone green and the right front tire started to go down. The caution came out, and we came in and put a right side tire on – and under the same caution, we had another tire go down. It as obviously not the result we wanted.

It's too bad. I thought we had a good weekend, but the results are not going to show that we did. It's too bad.

HOW GOOD WAS THE CAR BEFORE THAT?

We had to start outside of the Top-10, and I knew it was going to be difficult. Between Beech Ridge and Oxford, it's difficult to pass. At the start of the race, we were too tight, but the car kept getting better and better and everyone else started falling off. We got up into the Top-5, and it's unfortunate what happened after that.

It makes you feel better when you have cars capable of winning, but it's still not a good thing when you can't show it and you can't get the results you want.

WOULD YOU HAVE HAD A CAR THAT COULD CONTEND IF YOU'D GOTTEN BACK ON THE LEAD LAP?

We would have gotten a decent finish, but we had the tires mismatched. I think we were good enough to run Top-10 if we'd gotten the Lucky Dog, but it's so competitive, you need to have everything 100 percent. When you start thrashing and finding different tires and different sized tires with different laps on them, you're just trying to salvage a good finish.

We were close to getting one, but we just ran out of time. Everything didn't fall in our favor.

Autumn Colours Classic Sets the Provincial Standard for Short Track Stockcar Racing Success

Autumn Colours Classic Sets the Provincial Standard for Short Track Stockcar Racing Success

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

It is easily one of the most recognized events on the Canadian motorsports landscape.  The Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – at Peterborough Speedway is a 3 day spectacle of speed, drawing fans and competitors from one end of the province to the other.  This year's edition – taking centre stage from Friday to Sunday, October 11th to 13th – is guaranteed to take its rightful place in racing history.

The pit area will be packed and the spectator grandstands jammed asCanada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Oval becomes its own community during the Thanksgiving Weekend. Whether your favourite driver wheels a Hurricane Midget or a turns Thunder Car.  An Open Wheeled Modified or Pro Late Model, with 8 divisions in action, you're to find something to satisfy your need to speed.  Peterborough Speedway owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says the Autumn Colours Classic is the largest event of its kind in the province.

"Previous promoters had laid some excellent ground work and when I took over in 1999, our team took things to the next level," said Josiasse.  "If you mention 'Autumn Colours' to even a casual race fan, their response will be 'Peterborough Speedway'.  If they haven't been here yet, it's an event that's on their racing bucket list."

As in previous years, a handful of drivers will be doing double duty in hopes of landing an Autumn Colours Classic championship trophy.  Norwood, Ontario's Ryan Kimball will start from the inside front row position – driving the Janzen Racing #73 – in the Limited Late Model main event.  It's a spot he earned during the Chase for the Colours qualifying event Sunday, June 30th.  He'll also wheel his own #16 machine during Pro Late Model portion of the show.

Even though he captured the Mini Stock hardware in 2011 and 2012, fans won't see Daryl Face on the track during this year's edition of Autumn Colours.  The OshawaOntario speedster sold his race winning Cavalier during the off-season and despite making a couple of late season Thunder Car starts, he doesn't feel his new ride is ready to take on the best racers in the province.  By contrast, Craig Graham – who won the 2013 Late Model track championship – will make some changes to his regular ride and shoot for the Pro Late Model winner's cheque.  The Orono, Ontario racer – whose son Brandt will be in the Mini Stock starting line-up – says he looks forward to the 113 lap feature race distance.

"This show has always been scheduled to be the last hoorah of the year for drivers and fans," said Josiasse.  "We're pulling out all the stops to make sure it's a memorable racing experience for everyone.  Teams have had a few weeks to make sure their equipment and crews ready for anything this weekend can throw their way and make a charge that can put them into the history books as an Autumn Colours Classic champion.  Our team of track officials and staff is ready to handle any challenge that can present itself.  You can't prepare for everything, but I think we'll be ready for almost anything that can happen."

The 21st Annual Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – is expected to draw competitors from one end of the province to the other and while there is no way to determine exactly who'll roll through the pit gates until the weekend's first green flag, car counts are expected to be strong in every division.  Fans can find the latest news and track Autumn Colours Classic results by checking www.peterboroughspeedway.com and following Peterborough Speedway on Facebook and Twitter.

SHAW WINS THE RACE, CASSIUS CLARK WINS THE P.A.S.S. NORTH CHAMPIONSHIP

SHAW WINS THE RACE, CASSIUS CLARK

WINS THE P.A.S.S. NORTH CHAMPIONSHIP

It was day two of the P.A.S.S. North championship weekend, and a beautiful weather day attracted a full field of cars into the huge Oxford Plains Speedway pit area. Fifty Super Late Models entered the garage area to compete for thirty-six positions in the Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150.

Johnny Clark and Shawn Martin brought the field to green with Clark assuming the point from the get go. Clark held the lead until Scott Mulkern took over the top spot on lap 17 and set a torrid pace until lap 75 when Joey Doiron slipped by Mulkern for the lead. Doiron and Cassius Clark were tied in points heading into the main event, and Doiron was ecstatic as the crowd erupted when he grabbed the top point. Mulkern regained the lead after a caution for a minor spin by Dylan Gosbee on lap 94. Mulkern held off all chargers including Doiron, Cassius Clark and DJ Shaw until the final caution flew on lap 130 as Shawn Martin broke a suspension part and flew over the top of turn three. This caution set up an unbelievable set of circumstances as the top three, Mulkern, Clark, and Doiron were three wide for three consecutive laps before Clark snared the lead. The lead time for Clark was short lived as DJ Shaw raced by, and held the lead to the finish. Mulkern raced home second, followed by Cassius Clark, Travis Benjamin and Doiron. By finishing in the third position, Cassius Clark was crowned the 2013 P.A.S.S. North champion. In victory lane Clark thanked the world, especially his Hight Chevrolet family for their support. Heat checkers flew for Johnny Clark, Mike Rowe, Joey Doiron and Shawn martin. Consolation victories went to Tony Ricci and DJ Shaw, while the "B" feature checkers flew for Mike Landry.

Mark Lundblad Jr. changed a motor in his P.A.S.S. Mod on Saturday morning, and dominated the fifty lap main event on Saturday afternoon. Ron Henry raced home second ahead of Scott Alexander, Evan Armington and Travis Buzzell. Heat victories went to Carey Martin and Lundblad Jr, Scott Alexander was crowned the 2013 P.A.S.S. Modified champion.Due to possible post race infractions, this P.A.S.S. Modified finish is totally unofficial.OFFICIAL FINISH WILL BE POSTED WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE!

Richard Burgess led all 50 laps of the P.A.S.S. Sportsman feature, as he defeated Rusty Poland, Steve Bennett Sr., Joe Pastore Jr. and Billy Childs. Burgess and Poland won their respective qualifiers. Carey Martin was crowned the 2013 P.A.S.S. Sportsman champion, and in victory lane announced that he will be behind the wheel of a P.A.S.S. Modified full time in 2014.

The support division features saw Calvin Rose Jr win the Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Mini Stocks, Kurt Hewins the Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stocks, and Josh Childs won the Ripley and Fletcher Ford Outlaw Sportsman main. Complete finishes are listed below.
