WHERE WILL THE 358 MODS RACE THIS WEEKEND? NORTH OR SOUTH OF THE BORDER?
On Saturday, May 24th, Mike Perrotte and Alan Labrosse will host the first leg of the 3-race Canadian 358 MOD Triple Crown Mini-Championship (other races are June 21 and July 19). When we discussed the upcoming event with Labrosse, he sharded his expectations on the latest addition to his stock car program for 2014. "Some of the best DIRT 358 MOD drivers racing on asphalt have already told us they are coming. Patrick Dupree, Patrice Mcgrail, Pierre Bertihaume, Leon Gonyo, Richard Tisseur, Eric Lauziere, Mikhail Labreche, Chris Cayea, Andy Haywood, Kris Vernold, Michel and Maxime Viens are among the list of drivers who said would be there. Add Mike Perrotte and we can conservatively expect 14, maybe even 15 MODS in the first race and more for the other two races" said Labrosse.
The competitors will not be in unfamiliar territory. As the Triple Crown will be raced under the technical supervision of Yvan Lacroix and long time ACT competitor, Don Forté, will be the race director.
But will American competitors instead choose to race at Airborne and not deal with customs? There is no MOD race scheduled at the Plattsburgh, NY half-mile, but Sportsman MODS are. The Airborne website says "as a bonus" 358 MODS can run with a restrictor plate.
Jessey Mueller, Leon Gonyo, Greg Atkins, Kris Vernold, Chris Cayea, Richard Tisseur, Andy Haywood, Aaron Bartemy, Mike Wells and Maxime Viens make up the top-10 in points at Airborne. Will the ¨ promoter pressure¨ affect who chooses to go North? Will it help or make the case worse? Pit noise continues to be that the Management changes, with Mike Bruno at the helm, are not necessarely pleasing everyone and could ease the decision to run ¨Up North¨.
One thing is certain, people who will attend the Saturday, May 24th, racing program will have plenty to choose from: Legends, Sport Compacts (4 cyl), ASE Sportsman (Limited sportsmans) and the main event a 100-lap ACT Late Models race.
Alan Labrosse, Autodrome St-Eustache owner and promoter, and his sons are kicking it up another notch or two for their 50th anniversary and are refocusing on their stock car activities.
