Wayne Helliwell, Jr. Captures 4th Ford Blue Oval Cup Title

Wayne Helliwell, Jr. Captures 4th Ford Blue Oval Cup Title

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                              ACT-102113-69

Waterbury, VT – Dover, NH’s Wayne Helliwell, Jr. earned his 4th consecutive Ford Blue Oval Cup title after finishing 5th in the Fall Brawl at Riverside Speedway (Groveton, NH). Helliwell has now won the Ford title in each of its four seasons to date.

The 2013 Ford Championship saw the closest battle ever heading into the final eligible race. Helliwell lead by just one point over Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. Polewarczyk was involved in an accident in the second half of the 200 lap event, which effectively ended his title hopes. Helliwell was leading late until fading back to 5th following the final caution flag on lap 196.

The Ford Blue Oval Cup program awards ACT Late Model competitors who use Ford S347JR engines in competition on ACT, Serie ACT and at ACT-affliated tracks. Competitors earn money for top three finishes on the two tours and winning special events as well as a point fund for the season long standings.

Helliwell used a total of three feature wins in his E-Keys 4 Cars Ford to earn the championship and the $2,000 point fund check. The point fund brings his 2013 total earnings from Ford to over $3,000. He was also the 2013 American Canadian Tour Champion.

Inaugural Northern Modified Challenge Championship up for Grabs at Canaan

Top five drivers only 11 points apart entering 100-lap dirt track finale

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                     NMCS-101413-1

CANAAN, NH – The inaugural Northern Modified Challenge Series stock car champion will emerge from a crowded group of star open-wheel short track drivers at Canaan Dirt Speedway on Saturday, October 19.  The first-year series heads to its season finale with five drivers separated by only 11 points.

The Northern Modified Challenge Series, sanctioned by Devil’s Bowl Speedway, is unlike any other championship tour, utilizing center-seat, dirt-style Modified cars on both asphalt and dirt tracks.  Three feature events have been contested on the series’ home track in West Haven, VT, an asphalt half-mile, with additional asphalt races at Thunder Road in Barre, VT in May and Canaan Fair Speedway in August.  The finale will be run at Canaan Dirt Speedway – a flat, quarter-mile clay oval adjacent to the asphalt track.

Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT carries a microscopic one-point championship advantage entering the 100-lap Charlie Elliott Memorial Canaan Cup during the “OctoberFast” event on October 19.  Quenneville has been preparing for the Challenge finale by racing on dirt at Canaan and Bear Ridge Speedways in recent weeks, earning podium finishes at both tracks.  Quenneville has finished eighth or better in all five NMCS races, registering a runner-up showing on the Canaan asphalt.

With Challenge victories at Thunder Road and Devil’s Bowl, 18 year-old Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville, NY trails Quenneville by only one point.  An asphalt specialist, Mueller has run dirt races at Legion and Albany-Saratoga speedways to prepare for the Canaan finale.  Joe Williams of Scotia, NY ranks third only three points out of the lead, aided by podium finishes in both halves of the NMCS Twin 50 event at Devil’s Bowl on September 15.

Hunter Bates of Middlebury, VT is fourth in points, only seven markers behind Quenneville, and began his Modified career on dirt; he recently raced at Utica-Rome and Albany-Saratoga in advance of the Canaan race.  Two-time Devil’s Bowl champion Ron Proctor of Charlton, NY – who raced successfully on dirt for 30 years – sits fifth overall, just 11 points out of the lead.  Veteran driver Leon Gonyo, two-time NMCS winner Todd Stone, and Canaan asphalt winner Kenny Tremont, Jr., are all in contention as well.

The OctoberFast event will operate under the Canaan Dirt Speedway rulebook, and will award Northern Modified Challenge Series points to the series’ current Top 20 drivers who attempt to qualify.  The event is scheduled to be the final race ever held at the historic two-track Canaan Fairgrounds complex.  Racing begins at 1:30pm on Saturday, October 19.  For event information, call (603) 523-4502 or visit www.canaanspeedways.com.  For more information on the Northern Modified Challenge Series, call (802) 265-3112, visit www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com, or follow @NorthernModCS on Twitter.

NASCAR Announces 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Schedule

NASCAR Announces 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Schedule

Innovative Air Titan Track Drying Technology At Every Sprint Cup Race Next Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2013) NASCAR announced today the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule for the 2014 season, the 66th year of racing for the sport’s premier series.

In addition to the schedule unveiling, NASCAR announced that its revolutionary Air Titan track drying system will be available at every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend throughout the 2014 season.

For the 13th consecutive year, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule will consist of 36 points races as well as two additional weekends featuring non-points events. The Sprint Unlimited (Feb. 15) and two Daytona 500 qualifying races (both on Feb. 20) will take place before the season officially gets underway. The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway will take place on May 17, broadcast on FOX Sports 1.

“This season has delivered plenty of drama and excitement, and we’re anticipating even more for our fans in 2014 now that the Gen-6 car has competed at every track,” said Steve O’Donnell, senior vice president of racing operations. “Having the Air Titan at each NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend allows us to meet a very important goal set by our Chairman and CEO, Brian France: to drastically decrease track-drying time to the best of our ability and ensure our fans in the stands and those watching on TV get to see each race on its scheduled day.”

The season will open with the 56th running of the Daytona 500 live on FOX on Feb. 23 before moving west to Phoenix International Raceway (March 2) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway (March 9). Four tracks will undergo spring date changes: Texas Motor Speedway will hold its event one week earlier and move from Saturday to Sunday (April 6). Darlington Raceway will feature its race on April 12. Kansas Speedway will hold its first NASCAR Sprint Cup Saturday night race, with its event shifting to May 10, while Martinsville Speedway will host the series on March 30, a week earlier than in 2013.

For the fourth consecutive season, the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup will start at Chicagoland Speedway (Sept. 14) and conclude live on ESPN on Nov. 16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Developed in-house at NASCAR’s R&D Center, the Air Titan progressed quickly following France’s directive to improve the racing product and fan experience in every form. Following testing in the summer and fall of 2012, Phase 1 of the technology was on-site at Daytona International Speedway in February. The 2012 Daytona 500 was the first to be postponed to the following day because of inclement weather.

Its race event debut was in April at Martinsville where it successfully decreased drying time in order to hold NASCAR Sprint Cup practice rather than have it cancelled. Air Titan’s biggest save to date was at Talladega Superspeedway’s rainy spring races where it shaved nearly an hour off drying time for both the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, allowing those events to be completed on their scheduled days. It also was in use Oct. 3 at Kansas for track conditioning purposes while also trimming nearly 45 minutes from drying time prior to the Goodyear zone tread tire test.
