Kawartha Speedway Welcomes the New Year with the Release of Their

2012 Schedule

By Jim Clarke, Kawartha Speedway PR/Clarke Motorsports Communications

A clean slate.  A blank canvas.  A fresh sheet of paper.  A new calendar is just waiting to document the special events of your life.  Birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, your uncle’s brother’s cousin’s wedding...and the 2012 racing schedule at Kawartha Speedway.  From the time of the final checkered flag in September, drivers, teams and fans wondered what the next year might have in store for the 3/8th mile oval at Fraserville, Ontario.  Promoter/General Manager Derek Lynch says they’ll stick with the same tried and true formula that has proven successful since the track’s 10th anniversary campaign in 2010.

“We took a gamble when we first introduced our 10 race season, but it’s worked incredibly well,” said Lynch.  “The car counts have been strong in each of our 3 regular divisions and although it’s nothing we can control, there has been only 1 rainout in the last 2 years.  When we wave the green flag to open the year in June – with a couple of minor exceptions – we’ll be following the same format as 2011.”

An open practice session is on the books for Friday, May 25th.  Opening night of the season is Friday, June 1st, with the OSCAAR Super Late Models – and the new OSCAAR Open Wheeled Modifieds – joining the track’s 3 regular classes.  The second OSCAAR show of 2012 is the 75 lap Don Biederman Memorial event Friday, August 10th.  It will be the third consecutive year that the prestigious race has been part of Kawartha calendar.

As always, the track’s regular divisions will take the spotlight once the New Year fires-up.  A trio of NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model shows are on the agenda, highlighted by the $3,000.00 payday on the line for the 9th annual running of the 150 lap Summer Sizzler Friday, July 6th.  The Better Carpet Thunder Cars will run a pair of 50 lap invitationals – Friday, July 27th and August 26th.  Kawartha Speedway’s entry level division, the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks will host their 50 lappers, including Friday, July 20th – as part of the annual Fan Appreciation Night.

The ever-popular Ontario Legends Series will again have 4 shows in 2012 and will be joined by the Pro Challenge Tour for the Friday, August 26th event.   250 laps of NASCAR Canadian Tire Series action – Saturday, September 22nd – will bring the year to a close and if the race follows with its previous history, will determine the annual champion.

Kawartha klips:  OSCAAR president Dave Gainforth says that Kawartha’s June 1st event will be the second showing for their new modified division.  The Don Biederman Memorial race – which had been staged at different tracks on a rotating basis – seems to have found at home in Fraserville.  Gainforth says that series drivers love the track, with the casino and dining room providing the perfect venue to entertain sponsors.....The first action of 2012 is the 3rd annual edition of the Long John 200 endurance event Sunday, February 5th.  The full schedule and latest off-season news updates can be found anytime by visiting www.kawarthaspeedway.com.....Kawartha Speedway will also be part of the Canadian Motorsports Expo – presented by Inside Track Motorsports News – February 10th, 11th and 12th at Toronto’s International Centre.
