Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series Set to Hit Sunset Speedway

Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series Set to Hit Sunset Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

After starting the season with a pair of rainouts in 3 attempts, teams with the Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series are excited about heading to Sunset Speedway Saturday, June 25th for their first visit of the year. The event is sponsored by AC Plus Automotive, 1638 Penley Road in Orillia.

Heading into this weekend's show finds former Series champion Matt Haufe at the top of the point standings on the strength of a pair of qualifying heat wins and his runner-up effort in the Saturday, June 4th main event. Dawson Drimmie is 2nd, with opening round winner Parker Traves 3rd, just 7 points behind the leader. Rookie of the Year candidate Jordan Latimer sits 4th, Mark Griffin is 5th. Series owner and spokesperson Kevin Foisy says he expects many of the teams will use the event at Sunset to build some set-up notes for this year's running of the Canadian Legend Car Asphalt Nationals.

"Some of the drivers in our starting field may have been at Sunset before in a different type of car, but this will be their first exposure to the track in one of our machines," explained Kevin Foisy. "Its never too early to start getting ready for a first start at a new track so having the opportunity to do some homework with an event like the Asphalt Nationals on the horizon just makes good sense."

Don't miss the next round of open wheeled motorsports excitement as the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, presented by GEN-3 Electrical returns to Peterborough Speedway Saturday, June 25th.

Since its inception on 2010, OMRS teams have offered fans thrilling and entertaining motorsports action. Close to a dozen runners took the green flag in the 2022 season opener – Saturday, May 28th – at the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile. On the strength of his daring, 3-wide opening lap pass for the lead, Chad Strawn grabbed the top spot and hung on for his first trip to victory lane for the year. Series official and spokesperson Rick Warnes says it was a great start to the schedule.

"We'll have 8 dates on the calendar and will be looking to build on the momentum of our opening night's success," explained Warnes. "Some fresh faces are expected to be in the starting line-up for the next kick at the can and our drivers can't wait to get back on the track."

Warnes says that while every event on the timetable offers the same number of points toward the overall title, nothing will come close to being crowned the first winner of the Bill Pickford Memorial. The Saturday, August 20th shootout at Peterborough Speedway – in honour of the former OMRS racer and series founder – will be the highlight of the 2022 season. Full details are still in the planning stages and will be announced shortly.

Autism Awareness Night Returns June 25th at Peterborough Speedway

Autism Awareness Night Returns June 25th at Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

By its nature, the sport of short track stock car racing can be described as a rough and tumble – and sometimes, even aggressive – spectator attraction. Saturday, June 25th fans at Peterborough Speedway will get to see the softer side of Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval as the track plays host to an Autism Awareness Night. President of CNAF – the Canadian National Autism Foundation – Tina Fougere says its all about having family fun for a great cause.

"Kid's Race is about accepting our loved ones with Autism," Fougere said. "We couldn't ask for a better place in Central Ontario to host our special event. The wonderful people at Peterborough Speedway have opened their doors and more importantly, their hearts to our cause."

Kid's Race was started in 2010 as an idea to create a new platform for Autism research and awareness. It wasn't too long after speaking with – and working alongside track owners, officials, drivers, crews and fans – that a common bond was formed. Everyone associated with the event quickly realized that passion, dedication, family and a love for what they do is something that everyone shared. Peterborough Speedway owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says that Autism Awareness Night – Saturday, June 25th – is an informative and educational event for everyone who comes through the gates.

"Our drivers, teams, crew members, sponsors and fans are quick to throw their support behind a worthwhile cause," Josiasse said. "Even if a member of your family hasn't been affected by autism, you probably know someone who has. Whatever you can do to help the Canadian National Autism Foundation is a win-win for everyone involved,"

On track action for Saturday, June 25th at Peterborough Speedway will feature the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, KOD Disposal Super Stock and Late Model divisions, plus the GEN-3 Electrical Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and the Qwick Wick Fire Starter Can Am TQ Midgets. Pit gates will open at 2:30, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and racing at 6:00.
