Ben Rowe Hoping To Salvage Season With Another North-South Shootout Win

Ben Rowe Hoping To Salvage Season With Another North-South Shootout Win

-       For Immediate Release

CHARLOTTE, NC (October 29) – Since the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models first began turning laps on the short tracks of New England and Canada in 2001, Ben Rowe has been there virtually from the beginning.  Rowe, a 4-time PASS North Super Late Model Champion and 2-time winner of the prestigious Oxford 250, has become a modern day short track racing legend thanks to his exploits in PASS over the last 15 years.  But, PASS Super Late Model racing's all-time winningest driver, with nearly 40 checkered flags to his credit, has struggled in recent seasons. Last year, Rowe came South to Caraway Speedway for the North-South Shootout hoping to end the year on a strong note.  And, following a late-race caution that eliminated several contenders for the win, Rowe did just that, taking his first win of the season and first in the North-South Shootout.

"It was kind of our strategy to back off, but the leaders got out front and we couldn't run with them," said Rowe, following last year's come from behind win at Caraway.  "I knew all hell was going to break loose with 10 or 15 laps to go and we just wanted to be in the right position.  I'd rather be lucky than good any day and low and behold we got through the wreck and were leading with just a few laps to go."

Rowe comes to Saturday afternoon's 12th Annual John Blewitt III Memorial North-South Shootout Presented In Memory Of Charles Kepley in a similar position as last year.  The Turner, Maine veteran struggled through another PASS North Super Late Model season in 2014, going winless and without scoring a single top five finish.  Despite all that, Rowe still finished sixth in the final standings and appeared to be getting the program turned around on the famed Richard Moody & Sons Construction #4.  Now, with two North-South Shootouts at Caraway Speedway under his belt, including the win last year, Rowe hopes to end the season on a high note by contending for another win.

"Last year was kinda strange really," says Rowe.  "It seemed pretty clean until the end then everyone went nuts.  Getting another win in the North-South Shootout would be a huge lift for all of us, especially after the season we've head."

And, despite his New England roots, PASS South has been good to Ben Rowe.  In fact, he won the PASS South Super Late Model Championship in 2009 on the way to his first PASS National Championship. Of his 8 career PASS South wins, two have come in the Mason-Dixon Meltdown, at Concord Speedway in 2007 and at South Boston Speedway in 2009.  As he did last year, Rowe will stay in North Carolina following the North-South Shootout for the 9th Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown which will be held at Southern National Motorsport Park on Satuday, November 15.  Rowe leads the PASS National Championship standings heading to the final race of the season hoping to hold off rookie Tyler Dippel for his third National title.

But before they do that, Rowe and Dippel will have to attend to this weekend's business at Caraway Speedway.  This year's North-South Shootout has all the earmarks of another classic as Tyler Church, Cole Timm, and Jared Irvan look to bounce back after lackluster performances at Orange County Speedway as they compete for the PASS South Super Late Model championship.  Tate Fogleman, Trevor Noles, and Brandon Setzer will each be seeking their first career PASS South wins.   Other drivers who have pre-entered for Saturday afternoon's race include veterans Jimmy Doyle, Randy Gentry, Brandon Lynn, Jody Measamer, Ted Mickelson, Kevin Powell, and Brandon Ward.  Massachusetts driver Derek Ramstrom is planning on double-duty in the North-South Shootout competing in both the PASS South Super Late Model race and Tour-type Modified feature.

Action at Caraway Speedway gets started early for the 12th Annual North-South Shootout with an optional practice for all divisions onThursday, October 30th from Noon – 6 PM.  On Friday, October 31 practice will go from 11 AM – 4:10 PM, with grandstand gates opening at 4 PM, and qualifying set to start at 5 PM for the PASS South Super Late Models, Tour-type Modifieds, USAC Eastern Midgets, and Limited Late Models, followed by the PASS last chance race, Tour-type Modified heat races and support division features at 7 PM.  On Saturday, November 1, practice will start at 9:30 AM, with grandstand gates opening at 11 AM, the pit party at 12:30 PM and racing slated to start at 2 PM.  The PASS South Super Late Models will race for 150 laps, along with 125 laps for the Tour-type Modifieds, and 100 laps for the Limited Late Models.

PASS South Super Late Model entry forms as well as the complete weekend schedule for the 12th Annual North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway can be found at ProAllStarsSeries.com.

The Pro All Stars Series is recognized as North America's premier sanctioning body for asphalt Super Late Models and boasts such marquee events as PASS South's Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway, the Autobus La Quebecoise Triple Crown at Autodrome Chaudière, and the legendary Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.  For technical information concerning all PASS divisions please send questions to passracing@roadrunner.com.  For media or marketing questions, please contact Alan Dietz at 704-231-2039 oralandietzpass@live.com.  Please visit ProAllStarsSeries.com for more information.  And, don't forget to "Like" the Pro All Stars Series on Facebook or follow us on Twitter to keep up with breaking news as it happens.

TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND TO KICK OFF ITS 2015 PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN AT MOTORAMA

TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND TO KICK OFF ITS
2015 PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN AT MOTORAMA

A Brand New Show on a Weekend You Know!
March 13, 14 & 15, 2015 at Toronto's International Centre

TORONTO, ON // OCTOBER 24, 2014 • Within weeks of wrapping up another successful edition of Targa Newfoundland, organizers are already preparing for the 2015 event. That includes the announcement that the promotional campaign for Targa 2015 will kick off at the inaugural Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo. The show takes place March 13, 14 & 15, 2015 at Toronto's International Centre.

For the past several years, Targa Newfoundland has been a fixture at the Canadian Motorsports Expo (CME), which was held annually in February at the same venue. There, Targa officials connected with competitors, sponsors and the media to discuss the unique, world-class event which takes place every September in beautiful eastern Newfoundland.

For 2015, the Canadian Motorsports Expo will be incorporated into the new Motoramashow, which will occur on the same mid-March weekend that has – for four decades – featured Canada's largest custom car and hot rod show. The new Motorama show appeals to a wider range of automotive and racing enthusiasts, making Motorama an even better promotional fit for Targa Newfoundland. Next year's Targa Newfoundland takes place September 13-18 (2015).

"Opening up the show to the custom car crowd is an additional bonus for us," said Robert Giannou, the President and founder of Targa Newfoundland. "Our 'Fast Tour' division is geared to the 'car guy,' and they'll be the ones who will be interested in our kind of adventure."

As in past appearances, the Targa Newfoundland display will feature multiple examples of race-ready machinery, along with their drivers and support crews. Organizers of the Targa will also be on hand to answer any questions, while encouraging potential entrants into giving this unique automotive experience a try.

According to Giannou, participants in the annual 'Race Around the Rock' will come away with three life lessons. "First, it's the experience of a lifetime. Second, it will change your life. And last, it's awfully addictive."

These factors are behind one of Targa's well-known promotional lines: "We know you'll be back; your first time will not be your last."

Targa's annual appearance in Toronto is a key component of Targa's promotional campaign. Giannou continues, "This show is the major motorsports exposition in the country, and the Targa Newfoundland is one of the major motorsports events in Canada. For us, the best part of being at the Motorama show is that the attending competitors will be the ones selling the programme. That leaves us, the race organizers, to enjoy the show and network with other people from different racing disciplines."

ABOUT TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND: Targa Newfoundland is the only race of its kind in the northern hemisphere; the other Targa events take place in Tasmania and New Zealand. It is a six day, 1,600 kilometre, cross-country rally, which takes place annually in mid-September. There are three eligible divisions, the Targa class is for hard-core racers; the Grand Touring division caters to traditional rallyists, and the Fast Tour is a non-competitive class, geared to those entrants preferring to enjoy a quick run through the eastern and southern portions of the spectacular island province. Past Targa participants include such notables as: Chrysler development guru Ralph Gilles, former Canadian driving champion Eppie Wietzes, journalist Jim Kenzie, television personality Dennis Gage, and the Trailer Park Boys.Further information about Targa Newfoundland, call (toll-free) 1-877-332-2413, or visit them on the web at TargaNewfoundland.com.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway Postpones Dirt Track Finale Again

Devil's Bowl Speedway Postpones Dirt Track Finale Again

Wet grounds force rescheduling to November 1

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                        DBS-102414-1

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil's Bowl Speedway is again postponing its final dirt track stock car race of the season.  The Autosaver Ford/Springfield Buick-GMC "Vermont Freedom & Unity" event has now been moved three times from its original date due to weather-related conditions; one final attempt will be made at running the race on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.

With steady rain in eight of the last nine days at the facility, the clay surface of the dirt track has become too saturated for crews to be able to prepare a quality racing surface in enough time for competition on Sunday afternoon.

"We want to give our racers and fans the best quality show that we can, and any attempt at running a race on Sunday would just result in a rutted, muddy track," promoter Mike Bruno said.  "The good news is that the weather forecast looks great for next week, and we're optimistic that we'll be able to finish the season on a high note."

The Autosaver Ford/Springfield Buick-GMC "Vermont Freedom & Unity" event is the third and final leg of the "Battle at the Bowl" dirt track series and features a 100-lap, $2,000-to-win Sportsman Modified race that crowns champions for both the Battle at the Bowl and the Northern Modified Challenge Series.  Champions will also be crowned in the Renegade and Mini Stock divisions, and the Bond Auto Parts Sprint Cars of New England tour will also wrap up its point chase with a $1,000-to-win race.  A special $1,000-to-win event for the Bear Ridge Speedway Sportsman Coupe division is also on the card.

Grandstand general admission on Saturday, November 1 is $20 for adults and free for kids 12 and under, with pit passes at $40.  Pit gates will open at 9:00 a.m., with the grandstands open at 11:00 a.m.  Hot laps will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by Sportsman time trials at 12:30 p.m.  Green flag racing action starts at 1:00 p.m.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT, four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4.  For more information, visit www.DevilsBowlSpeedwayVT.com or call (802) 265-3112.  Devil's Bowl Speedway is on Facebook atfacebook.com/DevilsBowlSpeedway and on Twitter and Instagram at @DevilsBowlSpeed; follow the action using the #DevilsBowl and #BattleAtTheBowl hashtags.

Caraway’s North-South Shootout Brings Out The Best In PASS South Racers

Caraway's North-South Shootout Brings Out The Best In PASS South Racers

-       For Immediate Release

CHARLOTTE, NC (October 23) – In its 12-year history, the John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout presented in memory of Charles Kepley has become known for attracting the best in short track racing.  And, as the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models enter its third season being a part of the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway, this has also proven to be the case as well.

PASS South has competed at Caraway Speedway five times since 2008 when Justin Wakefield took the first checkered flag there. But, it's been in the North-South Shootout when the best PASS has to offer has shined.  In 2012, North Carolina legend Jay Fogleman battled throughout the 150 lap event with Ross Kenseth before finally prevailing for his second win of the season.  That win at Caraway sent Fogleman on his way to his first of two straight PASS National Championships.

Last year's PASS South Super Late Model portion of the North-South Shootout at Caraway is still a race fans are talking about today.  Two-time PASS South Caraway winner Kyle Grissom appeared to be on his way to a third win at the speedway, but a characteristic late race surge by Daniel Hemric propelled him to the lead and seemingly on the way to a victory.  But, a late race caution changed all of that, as Hemric and Grissom made contact entering turn one on the restart and collected several other lead lap contenders.  Maine legend and 4-time PASS North Champion, Ben Rowe, avoided the carnage, advancing from seventh place on the restart to claim his first victory in the prestigious event.

This year's event has all the earmarks of another classic as Tyler Church, Cole Timm, and Jared Irvan look to bounce back after lackluster performances at Orange County Speedway as they compete for the PASS South Super Late Model championship.  One of the most impressive group of Super Late Model drivers ever assembled for the North-South Shootout is expected as they look to defend the bragging rights for their respective regions.

Action at Caraway Speedway getsstarted early for the 12th Annual North-South Shootout with an optional practice for all divisions on Thursday, October 30th fromNoon – 6 PM. On Saturday, November 1, practice will start at 9:30 AMwith grandstand gates opening at 11 AM, the pit party at 12:30 PM and racing slated to start at 2 PM.  The PASS South Super Late Models will race for 150 laps, along with 125 laps for the Tour-type Modifieds, and 100 laps for the Limited Late Models
