PASS Sets 2018 Dates To Crown Super Late Model's National Champion

  • 45th Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway to pay PASS Super Late Model winner $25,000, plus $25,000 in guaranteed lap leader money
  • Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Top 3 Finishers Get Guaranteed Spots For Oxford 250 & Richmond's Commonwealth Classic
  • Dillon, Thompson, Richmond, North-South Shootout At Concord And Meltdown At Hickory Fill Out Remainder Of Championship Schedule

NAPLES, ME (January 26) – Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials have released the six dates and locations that will make up the 11th Annual PASS National Championship Series.  The schedule is comprised of six premier Super Late Model events, at a diverse group of tracks in both PASS North and PASS South, that will determine an overall PASS National Champion.  The PASS National Championship Series will see the champion crowned in the final race of the 2018 season at Hickory Motor Speedway in the 13th Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown 200.  And, for the first time ever, the PASS National Championship Series will visit Richmond Raceway in Virginia to headline the inaugural Commonwealth Classic on October 19-20.  Additionally, the Spring's most prestigious short track race in the country, the 13th Annual Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway, will now see the top three finishers get guaranteed starting spots, not only for the 45th Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway, but also for the Commonwealth Classic at Richmond.

Since 2008, some of the best short track racers in North America have captured the PASS National Championship including Cassius Clark, Ben Rowe, Preston Peltier, Jay Fogleman, and Joey Doiron.  While awards are currently still being finalized, the champion will once again receive a one-of-a-kind championship trophy featuring the American Bald Eagle.  Additional awards will be announced at a later date.

"11 years ago, with our presence across the Eastern Seaboard and Canada, we felt the time was right to crown Super Late Model racing's only National champion," said PASS President Tom Mayberry.  "This is probably the most diverse schedule we've ever put together with tracks of varying sizes and shapes to compete on.  The Oxford 250 continues to be one of the crown jewels of short track racing.  And, the addition of Richmond, will put all the competitors on a neutral site for the first time.  "

The PASS National Championship Series, along with the 2018 PASS South championship season, gets underway in just one month with the 13th Annual South Carolina Clash at Dillon Motor Speedway in South Carolina on February 24.  Fans will get to see drivers from across the spectrum of short track racing as the PASS Super Late Models will race for 200 laps and $6,000 to win and $700 to start, plus a major event for the Dillon Motor Speedway SuperTrucks paying $1000 to win and a UCAR/FWD race paying $500 to win as part of the South Carolina Clash.

From Dillon Motor Speedway in February, the 2018 PASS National Championship Series will kick off the New England racing season and will be contested again at one of the fastest tracks in the country.  The PASS Super Late Models will compete for 75 laps at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in Connecticut as part of the annual Icebreaker weekend April 7-8, along with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.  The Icebreaker will also once again double as the PASS North Super Late Model championship season opener.

The PASS National Championship Series will stay in New England for perhaps the most legendary of all short track races.  The 45th Annual Oxford 250 at Maine's Oxford Plains Speedway on August 26 will continue a tradition that started in 1974 and has seen such winners as Butch Lindley, Geoff Bodine, Junior Hanley, Ricky Craven, Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch.  And, with one of the richest purses in all of Super Late Model racing, the Oxford 250 should once again attract North America's best drivers, all competing for the $25,000 winner's share, plus an additional $25,000 in lap leader money.  The 2017 winner, Waterboro, ME's Curtis Gerry, bested over 60 other drivers to claim over $30,000 for his first win in the prestigious race.

The Fall will be busy with the PASS National Championship moving South for the final three events of the season.  The PASS Super Late Models will headline the inaugural PASS Commonwealth Classic at Richmond Raceway on Saturday night, October 20.  The PASS Super Late Models will compete in a 100-lap event on the famed three-quarter mile oval, paying $10,000 to win and $700 to start.  Additionally, Late Model Stocks will return to Richmond Raceway for the first time in a number of years, competing in a 75 lap race, paying $7,000 to win and $700 to start.  Both the Limited Late Models and Street Stocks will make their first ever starts at Richmond Raceway with the Limiteds racing for 50 laps and $4000 to win and the Street Stocks racing for 25 laps and $2000 to win.

The PASS National Championship Series then moves to Concord Speedway for the 16th Annual North-South Shootout on Saturday, November 10. PASS will be the exclusive Super Late Model tour at Concord Speedway in 2018, with a PASS South event scheduled there for Friday night, May 25.  The 2018 North-South Shootout will again be a test of man and machine for 125 laps around the treacherous half-mile triangular speedway.  It will be a big weekend of racing that will see the Tour-Type Modifieds also competing for 125 laps in one of the biggest races of the season.

Finally, the PASS National Championship Series will conclude just one week later with the 13th Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown 200 on Saturday, November 17 at the legendary Hickory Motor Speedway.  The 200 lap contest will once again crown both the PASS National Championship Series and PASS South Super Late Model champions.

The Pro All Stars Series is recognized as North America's premier sanctioning body for asphalt Super Late Models and boasts such marquee events as PASS South's Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway and the legendary Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway, and new for 2018, the inaugural Commonwealth Classic at Richmond Raceway.  For technical information on the PASS National Championship Series please contact Charlie Rockwell after 5 PM at 802-754-2822.  For media or marketing questions, please contact Alan Dietz at 704-231-2039 or alandietzpass@live.com.  Please visit ProAllStarsSeries.com for more information and don't forget to "Like" the Pro All Stars Series on Facebook or follow us on Twitter at @PASSSLM14 to keep up with breaking news as it happens.

ACT Announces Point Fund Increase for 2018 Season

ACT Announces Point Fund Increase for 2018 Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                         ACT012518-03

<<ATTACHED PHOTO (tr06111731.JPG): The ACT Late Model Tour champion will receive $10,000 in point fund money in 2018, with almost $41,000 in total posted awards for the top point finishers and rookie drivers. (Alan Ward photo)>>

Waterbury, VT – American-Canadian Tour (ACT) officials announced today that they have finalized the point fund for the 2018 ACT Late Model Tour season. A total of $40,750 has been posted in season-ending awards, a total increase of nearly $10,000 over the 2017 season.

The 2018 ACT Late Model Tour champion will receive the same $10,000 point fund award has they have in recent seasons. However, substantial increases have been posted for much of the top-10. Second place in the final standings for the upcoming season will receive $6,000, while the third-place finisher is slated to earn $4,500. Fourth and fifth place will collect $3,500 and $3,000, respectively.

Additional declinations will continue down to $1,000 point fund awards for those that finish between eighth and 15th in the standings. Teams must attend 100 percent of all point-counting ACT Late Model Tour events to be eligible for a point fund check.

A separate Rookie of the Year point fund will also be available. The top driver in the final rookie standings will receive an extra $1,000, with additional awards for the remainder of the top-five. As with the regular standings, rookies must be "100%'ers" to qualify for point fund money.

"It's important for a touring series to reward teams that support it for the entire season," ACT co-owner Cris Michaud said. "Increasing the point fund is a way of showing that we appreciate them showing up at every event and supporting ACT. It will also give the drivers who may be just outside of championship contention something extra to race for, which we believe will lead to more exciting action down the stretch of the season."

The ACT Late Model Tour will open its 27th season of competition with the New Hampshire Governor's Cup at Lee USA Speedway. Ten events are scheduled at tracks throughout New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Connecticut.

For more information, please contact the ACT offices at (802) 244-6963media@acttour.com, or visit www.acttour.com.

Devil's Bowl Speedway Opens New Dirt Track Era with Exciting 2018 Schedule

Historic $10,000-to-win Sportsman Modified "Vermont 200" headlines 19-race calendar

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                                 DBS-012018-1

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Vermont's Devil's Bowl Speedway has unveiled its highly anticipated 2018 stock car racing schedule, sparkling with a mix of 19 exciting weekly and special events.  The Rutland County track, in its 52nd season, will return to full-time dirt racing on a half-mile surface for the first time since 2009, and competition will again be sanctioned by the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The biggest event in Devil's Bowl Speedway history will be held on the weekend of September 15-16, with a race format never attempted before at any track: The "Vermont 200" for Sportsman Modifieds.  The race, which will be open to any driver, is for Northeast-style Sportsman Modifieds with the "602 crate" engine package and will pay a minimum of $10,000 to the winner.  At 200 laps in distance and with a record total purse estimated at $35,000, the race will be the longest, richest event ever held for the division at any track.

All of Devil's Bowl Speedway's divisions will be in action at the event, along with the track's annual Saturday night year-end bonfire and barbeque party.  Additional details surrounding the Vermont 200 Weekend event will be announced in the coming weeks, including the weekend schedule, rules, entries, and purses.

The Vermont 200 is far from the only major event; the weekly Sunday night racing season opens with a Memorial Day special on the evening of Sunday, May 27, to kick off the new half-mile dirt track era.  The winged Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) tour will make its first of four appearances for the season at the opener, and the King of Dirt Racing Series (KOD) organization will have its first stop of the year as well, with a Sportsman Modified race that drew 42 entries last year.

The SCoNE Sprint Cars will also be in action at the Coca-Cola Independence Day Firecracker, with a special mid-week date on Tuesday, July 3; at a rare Twin 20 double-feature event on Sunday, August 12; and at the Labor Day Special on Sunday, September 2.

All three KOD tours will each make stops at Devil's Bowl as well.  The Sportsman opener on May 27 kicks off the season, and the ground-pounding KOD Small Block 358 Modifieds will have a special mid-week event on Wednesday, June 6.  The KOD 358s will also headline the "C.J. Richards Memorial 67" on Sunday, July 29, and the KOD Pro Stocks will run their "Carl Vladyka Memorial 29" during the Vermont 200 Weekend in September.

Devil's Bowl Speedway will also hold two independent special events for 358 Modifieds: Twin 20-lap feature races on Sunday, July 15, and a 30-lap feature on Sunday, September 2.

The weekly Sunday night schedule is highlighted with special extra-distance races for all of Devil's Bowl Speedway's regular Sportsman Modified, Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and 500cc Mini Sprint divisions, as well as special promotions for fans at nearly every event.

Following the Vermont 200 Weekend on September 15-16, the season wraps up on Sunday, September 23, with the re-created "Mountain Man 200" Enduro event.  The survival-of-the-fittest race will feature bone stock,

nearly-street-legal vehicles with amateur drivers racing for 200 laps and $2,000 to win.  The race is green-flag only, with the red flag only displayed in emergencies.  Full Enduro rules and entries will be announced in the future.

And today, NASCAR announced an update to the Sunoco Rookie of the Year points structure in all three national series, placing a brighter spotlight on some of those young stars.

Beginning this season, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year point system will mirror the points structure that awards the season-long championship, including stage points and playoff points, with the eventual Sunoco Rookie of the Year earning the most points throughout the season.

As is the case with the season-long points structure, a race win will earn a Sunoco Rookie 40 points and five playoff points. A second-place finish will earn a Sunoco Rookie 35 points; a third-place finish nets 34 points, and so on. A Sunoco Rookie who wins a stage will earn 10 points and one playoff point.

"The focus on our rising stars has never been stronger and simplifying the Sunoco Rookie of the Year system made perfect sense," said Jim Cassidy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. "Our fans track closely the progress of our young drivers and matching the Sunoco Rookie of the Year points structure with the championship points will help them follow this prestigious program and award more closely than ever before."

The new Sunoco Rookie of the Year guidelines will take effect in all three NASCAR national series – the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
