OMRS Thrills a Near Capacity Fan Appreciation Night Crowd at Peterborough Speedway

OMRS Thrills a Near Capacity Fan Appreciation Night Crowd at Peterborough Speedway

Any entertainer will honestly tell you that they save their best performance for a full house. Saturday, August 15th the popular Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – delighted a strong crowd on Fan Appreciation Night at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

A strong field of Ontario Modifieds Racing Series teams rolled from the staging area, with Gary Tryon and Jamie Wagar showing the way. After experiencing some tough luck in earlier events, Wagar – a former Thunder Car racer at Peterborough Speedway – was fast during the opening stages, but was no match for John Baker Jr., who took over the top spot with a handful of laps showing on the scoreboard. Donny Beatty – who is having a successful freshman campaign in the open-wheeled division – followed J.B.J. across the line. Nick Lees, Wagar and Cory Horner completed the fast 5 finishers. It was Baker's 3rd consecutive Ontario Modifieds Racing Series win at the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3rdof a Mile Paved Oval.

OMRS qualifying heat race winners were Nick Lees, Cory Horner, Brad Stevenson and Donny Beatty.

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Peterborough Speedway notes: It was a tough night for several OMRS teams. While Nick Lees recorded a 3rd place finish in the main event, his twin brother Alex had an evening he'd rather forget about. It started with a flat tire on his trailer and continued on the track, when transmission issues sidelined the #07 ride. Rookie of the Year hopeful Willow Barberstock's #62w machine made heavy contact with the first turn retaining wall, but thanks to some help from other drivers in the OMRS family, the popular 15 year-old was able to make the main event starting grid but parked on the infield pit lane before the checkered flag. 2014 series champion Robert Warnes experienced issues with his equipment during practice and missed the show…When early evening showers forced speedway officials to cancel the on-track portion of Fan Appreciation Night, a number of drivers including Barberstock and main event winner John Baker Jr. handed out treats and signed autographs in the grandstand.

OMRS will be part of the rescheduled Chase for the Colours pole qualifier Saturday, August 22nd and will conclude the Peterborough Speedway portion of its 2015 calendar Saturday, August 29thbefore action shifts to Flamboro Speedway for the balance of the schedule.

NASCAR Teams with Latino Superstar Eugenio Derbez to Develop Original Comedy Film

Project brings together the biggest name in Motorsports and Mexico's brightest movie star to create a full-length feature

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 17, 2015) – NASCAR® announced today it has teamed up with Eugenio Derbez, one of Mexico's most-recognizable stars, to collaborate on an original, full-length comedy movie.

Long heralded as one of Mexico's most popular actors, writers, directors and producers, Derbez broke-through on a global level with the 2013 hit film Instructions Not Included. Derbez was named No. 1 on Variety's Power of Latinos List in 2014, along with actress Sofia Vergara. NASCAR's popularity among Latinos has increased in recent years, as drivers such as Cuban-American Aric Almirola and Mexican Daniel Suarez have seen increasing success in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ and NASCAR XFINITY Series™. Derbez raced competitively in Mexico and has a deep passion for the sport.

"I'm really excited about doing a movie with NASCAR," said Derbez. "They have built an amazing organization with an undeniable fan base. I'm humbled that they want to work with me and think we can do something very special together."

Benjamin Odell, partner with Derbez's production company, 3Pas Studios, will serve as producer of the project along with Derbez. Zane Stoddard, vice president of NASCAR's entertainment, marketing and content development division, will serve as executive producer.

"Eugenio is one of the biggest Hispanic stars in the world and we are extremely excited to partner with him on this project," said Stoddard. "NASCAR's Hispanic fan base has grown tremendously in recent years and we believe this project is a fantastic opportunity to further engage this audience with a great story inside our sport."

Based in Los Angeles, NASCAR's Entertainment Marketing and Content Development division develops and produces quality television, film and digital projects on behalf of the sport. The Entertainment Marketing and Content Development division seeks to access a younger and more diverse audience through the development of original content, the integration of NASCAR drivers into existing programming, and talent acquisition for races and industry events.

Derbez is represented by UTA and attorney Howard Abramson of Behr Levehson Levy. 3Pas Studios has a first look deal with Pantelion Films, the joint venture between Lionsgate and Mexico's Televisa Studios.
