Helliwell Holds off Field, Beats Rain for Devil's Bowl Threepeat

Stone, Bushey, LaVair grab repeat victories

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                     DBS-072813-1

WEST HAVEN, VT – American-Canadian Tour stock car driver Wayne Helliwell, Jr., captured an historic victory at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, July 28, taking his third consecutive win at the West Haven, VT track in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 150 presented by Cat Country 105.3 FM.  Todd Stone, rookie Brad Bushey, and Chris LaVair also picked up NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins at the event.

Helliwell, of Dover, NH, outlasted a race-long fight with Ray Parent.  The pair traded the lead eight times during the 150-lap race, which was halted twice for rain including for 23 minutes with 93 laps complete.  After the race resumed, Parent, of Tiverton, RI, was running second with just four laps remaining when his engine sputtered, out of fuel.  Helliwell pulled away for the win after the final restart to earn the two-race ACT sweep at Devil’s Bowl in 2013, having won the Spring Green 113 in May; he also won the Spring Green in 2012 to make it three-straight wins at the track.

Travis Stearns, a rookie from Auburn, ME, picked up where Parent left off, earning a career-best runner-up finish.  Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., of Hudson, NH finished third, followed by Glen Luce of Turner, ME, and rookie Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, VT, Ben Lynch of Huntersville, NC, and Jimmy Hebert of Williamstown, VT.

Rookie Josh Masterson of Bristol, VT, led the local Devil’s Bowl contingent in eighth place.  Brent Dragon of Milton, VT was ninth, followed by another weekly Devil’s Bowl competitor, rookie Brandon Atkins of AuSable Forks, NY.

Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT dominated the 35-lap Bond Auto Parts Modified feature, cruising to his sixth victory of the year.  Stone drove from 11th place to second, then capitalized on the race’s lone restart at lap nine to take the lead.  Stone also won his qualifying heat and the bonus-points Sunoco Race Fuels Semi-Feature for a rare “triple crown” victory.

Joe Williams of Scotia, NY shrugged off a month of bad luck with a runner-up finish.  Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville, NY won a spirited battle for third place after racing with Joey Roberts of Fletcher, VT for most of the event.  Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT finished fifth behind Roberts.  Kenny Tremont, Jr., Hunter Bates, Leon Gonyo, Ron Proctor, and Jeff Haskins completed the unofficial top ten.

Brad Bushey of Cambridge, VT posted the second Renegade win of his freshman season, taking the overall victory in a two-segment race.  Bushey finished second in the first 12-lap segment and won the final 12-lap round for a low total score of three points.  Fifteen year-old rookie Richard Lowrey, III, of Charlotte, VT, was a career-best second overall.  Lowrey won the first segment and finished third in the second round for four points.  Richie Turner of Fairfax, VT was third overall (five points), followed by Stephen Donahue of Graniteville, VT (10 points), and Ray Germain, Jr., of Bristol, VT (10 points).

Chris LaVair of Gabriels, NY took his second-straight win in the Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock division, taking the 15-lap feature.  John McCarron of Rensselaer, NY earned a season-best runner-up finish, with Mike Whalen, Jr., of Plattsburgh, NY third.  Chuck Bradford of Addison, VT and Jake Noble of Benson, VT were next in line.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is back in action on Friday, August 2 at 7:00pm with the second annual C.J. Richards Memorial 67 presented by Carrara Masonry & Concrete, the second round of the new Northern Modified Challenge Series.  The event also includes twin 20-lap Late Model features and the Mini Stock division.  Regular general admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for children 12 and under.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, VT, four miles north of Exit 2 on U.S. Route 4.  For more information, visit www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com or call (802) 265-3112.  Devil’s Bowl Speedway is on Facebook at facebook.com/DevilsBowlSpeedway and on Twitter at @DevilsBowlSpeed.

Ranger Takes ARCA Win Again at New Jersey Motorsports Park Road Course

For Immediate Release:

Sunday, July 28, 2013

(MILLVILLE, N.J.) - Andrew Ranger passed Chase Elliott with 10 laps left in Sunday's Barbera's Autoland 150 presented by Driven Racing Oil, then sailed to his third ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards career win.

"When I was behind Chase I was trying to save my car," Ranger said. "He pushed really hard with 25 to go, which surprised me. I tried to save the car. Then, when I was pretty close to him with 15 to go and then I passed him. I was a little nervous because I knew with that many laps to go a lot could happen."

With no late race cautions, Ranger was able to widen his gap on Elliott, who was also passed by runner-up finisher Tom Hessert in the Cunningham Motorsports No. 77 Barbera's Autoland Dodge.

"You never know what can happen with the last lap, 10 to go or five to go," Ranger said. "I tried to be relaxed in the car and not make a mistake. Definitely I think we did a really good job - all the team did."

Ranger has now won three straight ARCA events at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

With his second place finish, Hessert came home with his career-best road course finish.

"It was definitely a good day," Hessert said. "In the end, second place is awfully good. It's always great to run well close to home. It's great to have the support."

Elliott, in the No. 9 Aaron's-Hendrickcars.com Chevrolet, led the most laps (34) and was the SCOTT Rookie Challenge winner of the race. Toward the end of the race, he said, he had a tire concern that caused him to drop to third.

"We definitely needed to be a little bit better," Elliott said.

Will Kimmel finished fourth in his No. 69 Messina Wildlife Ford and Frank Kimmel, in the No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota finished fifth. Justin Boston, in the No. 25 ZLOOP Computer & Electronics Recycling Toyota was sixth in the final running order with Venturini Motorsports teammate Brian Wong seventh, Mason Mingus eighth in the 811 Call Before You Dig Toyota, Steve Minghenelli in the Dylans RV Center Ford ninth and Austin Wayne Self 10th in the AM Technical Solutions Dodge. Venezuela Tourism Toyota driver Nelson Canache was the last car on the lead lap, in 11th.

Ranger sat on the pole for the race but it was Elliott grabbing the lead in the first turn and staying there until Ranger passed him on lap eight. Will Kimmel led three laps in the middle of the race until Elliott passed him after the third and final caution of the race.

Ranger, Hessert and Elliott stayed out front for most of the day.

"We probably had the three best cars," Elliott said. "It's not the way it always works - that the best cars finish 1-2-3. I just wanted to come in here today and not do what I did at Road America and be a little bit smarter."

The race took just one hour and 27 minutes, nearly 30 minutes faster than the first five ARCA Racing Series events at NJMP. There were only three cautions for 10 laps and the average speed of the winner was 81.753 mph, also an ARCA record.

Ranger, driving the No. 53 Waste Management Bagster Dodge, led 30 of 67 laps. The Roxton Pond, Quebec native, has now won three consecutive races on the Thunderbolt Course at NJMP.

"I feel so great, good for the team," Ranger said. "We bought that car three years ago. We came here and won my first race in it. I think that car is built for here. It's pretty cool."

The ARCA Racing Series has a short week off before traveling to Long Pond, Pa. for the ModSpace 125 at Pocono Raceway Friday, Aug. 2. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin signe son cinquième top-10

English below

PRESS RELEASE

(For Immediate Diffusion)

SECOND IN DRIVER STANDINGS

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin signs his fifth top-10

St-Eustache (Quebec, Canada) – July 28th, 2013. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin has crossed the finish line in sixth place yesterday on St-Eustache’s Autodrome. Everything was in place for the WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare team to end up on the podium. However, a mechanical problem which occurred at the end of the event forced the Quebecer to slow down in order to be able to cross the finish line.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin was competing for the first time on St-Eustache’s oval track, and started the National 250 in eighth place behind the wheel of the #47 Dodge WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare. During his strategic overtakes (between the 98th and 206th laps), Louis-Philippe Dumoulin has patiently made his way to the top-3. During the 207th lap, the Dumoulin Competition driver was forced to make a pit stop due to an engine part failure.

“We once again had a great car, like for every other race. Tyler Case [crew chief] and the WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare mechanical team had prepared a very competitive car and I am proud to collaborate with each of them. What happened is really a shame, we were well positioned on the starting grid, and we were patient and managed to stay on the lead lap until late in the race. Furthermore, we hadn’t made the pit stop for the tire change. Everything was on track for us to have an extremely fast car at the end to be able to fight for the victory. Unfortunately, a part in the engine failed and I had to maintain the same place to finish the race”, explains Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

Behind Scott Steckly (22Racing who prepare 47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare cars), this fifth top-10 of the season gives Dumoulin the second place in the NASCAR Canadian Tire series standings.

Special mention

During yesterday’s event, the medical team’s intervention was necessary to bring assistance to Phil Arnold (Josh Arnold’s father - WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare team member). Fortunately, it was without consequence. Dumoulin Competition wishes him a speedy recovery.

“Home Sweet Home” - Third event on road circuit

From logistics to mechanics, Dumoulin Competition is working towards finalizing its preparation for the hometown event that will occur on the road circuit of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (August 9th-11th). Jean-François (#04 Dodge Bernier Crépeau/ Bellemare/ Manac/ ACASS) and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (#47 Dodge WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare) invite you to this week-end event that promises great action for drivers and fans alike.

The National 250 presented by Public Mobile will premiere on TSN at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 4. The French-language telecast will air on RDS2 at 11 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 24 and at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 25 on RDS.
