Wade Purchase Re-Tools in a Charge Toward the 2016 Pro Stock Crown

Wade Purchase Re-Tools in a Charge Toward the 2016 Pro Stock Crown

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

Brighton Speedway's new season of action is underway and after some late night's at their Prince Edward Country shop, Wade Purchase is ready to rock. With a year of running the fan favourite 1962 Chevrolet Belair in the rear-view mirror, the team has converted the #53 machine – that finished 5th in the final 2015 point standings, after suffering engine problems in the final double points night of the year – into a more conventional Monte Carlo bodied ride.

"The Belair got a lot of attention at the track and on social media," said the 20 year-old second generation speedster. "While the car was a fun project for us to put together, it was a much heavier than the others in the field and wasn't as competitive as we had hoped. Still, after being awarded the Pro Stock division's best appearing car and getting nominated as one of the best appearing in the province, we deemed the experiment as a success. Now, its time to focus on the future."

Switching to a body kit that will blend-in with a highly competitive field at the popular local clay oval, Wade Purchase – who'll be entering his 4th season of action – says he's looking forward to getting back behind the wheel.

With Mat Purchase – the driver's father and crew chief – calling the shots and orchestrating the switch, team members Kali Michael, Stephanie Purchase, Travis Coates, Jessy Doornbos, Katie McKinley and Kevin Rallison are also helping to get things ready for battle. Wade Purchase says that no success on the track comes without some teamwork behind the scenes and its great to have so many people pitching-in to make sure he's ready for opening night.

"There is always a lot to do and my entire team is putting in some long hours in the shop," said the driver. "It seems like a lot of work now, but every second we've spent tweaking body panels and fitting pieces together will all have its own reward when we're relaxing after a strong run after the year's first main event."

For 2016, the #53 Purchase Racing Pro Stock will be proudly supported by Independent Alternator & Starter, Team Re/Max Real Estate of Wellington, K-D Transmissions, PartSource, Millpond Music & Entertainment, Tag Ironworks & Fabrication, The Vinyl Solution and Dino's Pizza. Team media and promotional services are provided by Clarke Motorsports Communications.

22 RACING & SCOTT STECKLY TO FIELD THREE TEAMS AT CTMP IN MAY

For Immediate Release

22 RACING & SCOTT STECKLY TO FIELD THREE TEAMS AT CTMP IN MAY

Scott Steckly Expands Role as Team Owner

Friday April 29, 2016:  Four time NASCAR Pintys Series Champion (2008, 2011, 2013 & 2015) Scott Steckly will be at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the opening event of the 2016 season, however it will be in a slightly different role than in the past. Steckly will field three teams as a team owner and not a driver.

Steckly is one of only three drivers to have made all 109 starts in the NASCAR Pintys Series to date.  "I am not saying I have finished with competing as you never know what can happen," said Steckly from his shop in Milverton, Ontario.  "However I can honestly say I feel I have proved everything I need to as a driver even though you never lose the drive to win, so if my helmet is hung up for good then I will fill this new role and do what's best for the business of 22 Racing."

Returning full time out of the 22 Racing shop for the third year will be former Indy 500 pole sitter Alex Tagliani in the #18 Epi Pen car. Tagliani will miss the opening event as a driver due to his duties preparing for the Indy 500. The replacement driver for him will be announced at a later date. Follow Alex Tagliani on his website at www.tagliani.com or on Twitter @Tagliani or @TagAutosport.

Racing in the #46 entry in 2016 will be Brett Taylor from Calgary, Alberta.  Taylor will compete in the 22 Racing fielded #46 car for four events including, CTMP in May and September as well as Toronto Indy and GP3R.  Taylor is coming off a successful season in the CACC series where he won Rookie of the Year. For more information on Brett Taylor visitwww.bretttaylorracing.com or follow on Twitter @brett_taylor46.

Seventeen-year-old Kaz Grala from the NASCAR K & N Pro Series East will debut in the #22 car at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on May 21/22.  Grala hails from Westborough, Mass.  He has raced in the K & N Pro Series East since 2014 and has posted a career high second place finish at Dover in 2014 and Virginia in 2015. For more information on Kaz Grala check out his website www.kazgrala.com or follow on Twitter @KazGrala or on Facebook KazGralaRacing.

Donald Theetge of Boischatel, QC will drive a 22 Racing entry at the second NASCAR Pintys Series event at Autodrome Chaudiere on Saturday June 11th.  Theetge is a two-time ACT Series Champion and is the Tour's all-time winningest driver.  Follow Theetge on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/Donald.Theetge

Steckly continues the search for partners in 2016. "If a sponsorship opportunity comes along I would definitely get back in the car as I know I can still win races and championships for my partners," commented Steckly. "But for right this moment my team is focused on giving these drivers cars they can win with in the upcoming two events."

The 22 Racing Team is supported by the following sponsors:  Erb Group of Companies, AW Millwrights, Sturdy Formed Concrete, Reefer Sales, Wendell Motors, Twin City Graphics, Lincoln Electric, Auto Glym, Mechanix Wear, Great Dane Glasvan, Safety Kleen & Permatex.

Fans can follow the team on Twitter @22RacingTeam or you can Like the 22RacingTeam Fan Page on Facebook.

The NASCAR Pintys Series is made up of 12 events across Canada with events in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.  A notable addition to the 2016 schedule is the Toronto Honda Indy July 14-16th

Danny Benedict Breaks New Ground in Sunset Speedway’s Late Model Field

Danny Benedict Breaks New Ground in Sunset Speedway's Late Model Field

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

His performance at the controls of a Mini Stock racecar saw him dubbed as 'The Showstopper' after he claimed the final regular season feature events at Kawartha Speedway and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's half-mile oval. When the green flag flies to start the 2016 season, Danny Benedict will face a new challenge, as the Orono, Ontario resident joins the Late Model division at Sunset Speedway.

Fresh from finishing his second year of studies in the Powerline Technician Program at Ottawa's Algonquin College, the 19 year-old Benedict says he's looking forward to wheeling his new ride at the track where he finished 6th in last year's final point standings and was 52nd out of 100 North American drivers in Division 3 of NASCAR's Whelan Racing Series.

"The car arrived in our shop late in the 2015 season and its been almost completely rebuilt since then," said the talented youngster. "Dad and I made a lot of changes of our own and we've had input from some good friends, including Dan McHattie. We'll be running in a very competitive field and faced with a steep learning curve, but I think as long as we're able to gain some knowledge a little at a time, it'll be a great season."

During a mid April open test session at Sunset Speedway with McHattie and Scott Shaw on-hand to lend assistance, Benedict was able to put his new piece through its paces in race trim for one of the first times. Experimenting with some different lines and a variety of set-ups, the team was able to get a good idea of what they can expect during the year.

"Even though I was out there for just a few laps at a time, it was great to get back behind the wheel," said Benedict. "A good set of notes is always important; especially when you're in a new car or moving to a different division and this year, we're doing both. We've started with an empty book, but the pages are filling up very quickly. There is still some work to do, but whatever time we spend in the shop allows us to get more out of the car on the track and that's what this level of racing is all about."

For 2016, Benedict Racing is pleased to welcome new sponsors Only Solutions and Dan McHattie Racecars to their existing group of marketing partners that includes Hoy's Garage, Kim Irwin of Irwin Tax & Accounting, Baudo Auto Service, B & W Enterprises, Mark Rainford Auto Centre, Camsport Truck Caps & Accessories, Dent Dynamics and Mayhew Graphics. Team media and promotional services are provided by Clarke Motorsports Communications.

Fans can follow the team on Twitter throughout the season, by checking @dannybenedict54.

Mike Wallace Steps into the Ring for the Late Model Championship Fight

Mike Wallace Steps into the Ring for the Late Model Championship Fight

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

When Peterborough Speedway's 2016 season takes the green flag, a hometown kid hopes to be one of the leading contenders for the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model track championship.

Mike Wallace isn't just a familiar face in the pit area at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. Its where he grew up. His passion for the sport began during the 12 years that his family owned the Mount Pleasant Road raceway and after advancing through the driving ranks with some solid seasons in the Mini Stock division, the 37 year-old scored his first career Late Model main event win Late Model victory in the later stages of the 2015 campaign. With the new season less than a month away, Wallace will make a fresh start with an invigorated program.

"That feature race win couldn't have come at a better time," admitted Mike Wallace. "So much of what gets done in weekly racing is about attitude and that checkered flag was the spark that ignited the fuse for my team. I'd already started thinking about making some changes in our operation and now we're definitely headed in the right direction."

One of the first steps Wallace, a 3rdgeneration racer – whose father and grandfather also logged seat-time in the sport – took is to acquire a new car to begin the 2016 calendar. The machine is a McColl Racing Enterprises chassis from the shops of former Kawartha Speedway Late Model runner Bryan Watts. Usually one of the more reserved drivers in the highly competitive field, Mike Wallace is proud to say that he's fired-up about the new season and can't wait to hit the track.

"Self confidence is a wonderful thing," said Mike Wallace. "I can start the year with the knowledge that I've been to victory lane and there aren't a lot of drivers in the field who can say that. The experience of getting out of the car after a big win is amazing and something I never want to forget. It makes you sit a little taller in the seat, looks great on a resume and is a strong conversation starter when you're meeting with potential sponsors."

For 2016, the #27 Late Model program is proudly supported by marketing partners JRB Engines & Performance, JBEX Construction, Kirk Morris State Farm Insurance, Puckrin & Latreille Real Estate Group, Custom Mobile Wash, Sitescape Landscape, Merrett Home Hardware Building Centre, Mister Transmission Peterborough, Shawn Micks Investments, Morgan-Amber Photography and Spencer Lewis Promotions. Mike Wallace Racing is actively seeking additional advertising assistance for the upcoming season.

Prospective sponsors can reach and follow the team through the Mike Wallace Racing page at www.facebook.com or @Blueprint27MW on Twitter.

Lee USA American Racer Three Stars Announced

Lee USA American Racer Three Stars Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                          ACT042516-22

<<ATTACHED PHOTO (lee4241617.jpg): Lee USA American Racer Three Stars Announced. (Alan Ward)

Waterbury, VT – The American Racer Three Star program will continue in 2016. The program is designed to recognize three teams in no particular order of performance that had outstanding races at ACT US tour events. There are no specific criteria for deciding who might receive the award of a free American Racer Tire (value $125.00), but a special effort by a team, exceptional race, just plain old hard luck, or other accepted reason to give the award is used to decide the recipients.

The three stars are chosen by officials and winners will receive certificates for the use of a free American Racer tire at a future Tour race of their choosing during 2016.

The awarding of the stars does not allow for anybody in the top three to receive the recognition. Again this week it would be difficult not to recognize the outstanding effort, strategies, and excitement that Scott Payea brought with his RPM team victory. Payea joined Wayne Helliwell Jr., Ray Parent, Alex Labbe, Quinny Welch, and Todd Davis who made the 30th opening day at Lee one of the most exciting races during the long history of ACT at Lee USA.

Congratulations to Red, Judy and the entire Lee staff on their 30th anniversary opener. We at ACT have been happy to be along for the entire trip!

LEE USA SPEEDWAY

NEW HAMPSHIRE GOVENOR'S CUP 150

ADAM GRAY, Granby, MA-- 97MA—  The 97MA team ventured out to Lee as a new team with veteran leadership racing in Pro-Stocks, but never in an ACT Late Model. Most veteran racers who take on the challenge of limited horsepower, limited shocks, and limited tires find the ACT cars far more difficult to drive than many other forms of short track racing. Certainly for Adam and his team the practice session on Saturday at Lee was an indication that this was going to be a different experience. As with most new teams there was some frustration, anxiety, and when combined with a very healthy field of ACT veterans, they knew they were in for a challenge. The team worked all day to improve, but Sunday, they really made a statement. Racing in a 32 car field on the fast 1/3rdmile at Lee, in what turned out to be a mostly caution free event (only one caution on lap 46 in the first 140 laps) the 97MA team came to the finish line completing 149 laps, and for a first effort that looked pretty tough on Saturday should be very happy with that result. For the positive attitude and effort over two days, one of the stars of the Lee USA New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150 is awarded one of the American Racer Star awards.

Congratulations to the Granby, MA team.

EMILY PACKARD, East Montpelier, VT – 9ME, — Another consistent drive for Emily. The 9ME team is not new to earning the American Racer Stars in ACT competition. A year ago they had several great outings and earned multiple stars. Again under a new team Emily is looking like a contender to have a break-out season. A late decision to compete at the Lee USA opener turned out to be a very good decision. Coming off another great run at Oxford a week ago, the new combination of Joe and Joey Pole seems to be clicking out of the starting gate. Emily brought her usual patience and skill to the 150 laps. Late in the race, caught in a three wide sandwich, she powered through the lap to position herself for a solid top sixth place finish. A late race lane with some lapped cars denied her a top five at Oxford, but both events to date have shown a skill set combination that assures that this team is going to be a contender this season. For a second week of great effort, the American Racer Star is awarded to what is now a veteran racer who will return to her home track of Thunder Road this weekend for another 150 lap event.

QUINNY WELCH, Lancaster, NH – 78NH— Veteran independent Quinny Welch took the lead from Ray Parent around the half way point in the New Hampshire Governor's Cup and dominated the event for the next 30 laps in what looked like a run-away. The 78NH eventually came back to the field and things got very interesting for the former White Mountain Motorsports Park track champ. Although he dropped back five spots, when the final yellow came out on lap 141, the veteran still had some car left and plenty of experience from years of experience of weekly dash racing. Quinny was in the hunt until the end and earned a very respectable 5thplace finish. The award goes to this independent team for his early charge and spirited come back when the final laps offered him another chance. It was just a good day at the race track for this team and the affable Quinny Welch. A well-deserved American Racer Star award to the very competitive 78NH team.
