PASS Championships To Be Decided At Concord’s North-South Shootout Finale

PASS Championships To Be Decided At Concord's North-South Shootout Finale

-       For Immediate Release

CHARLOTTE, NC (October 31) – As the weather cools and the seasons change, another Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model season will go into the books this weekend at Concord Speedway.  This year two great events will come together as the PASS Super Late Models will compete for 125 laps in the Mason-Dixon Meltdown as part of the 14th Annual North-South Shootout.  In addition, both the PASS National Championship and PASS South Super Late Model titles will be decided on Saturday afternoon in the Meltdown.

Since 2008, the PASS National Championship has become Super Late Model racing's only true undisputed national title. Coming into this weekend's action, Turner, ME's Ben Rowe will be seeking an unprecedented fourth PASS National Championship crown.  In his first start at Concord Speedway in 2007, Rowe edged out Corey Williams to take the win in the second ever running of the Mason-Dixon Meltdown.  While Rowe enjoys a fairly healthy 72-point advantage, New Hampshire's Jeremy Davis will be making his first trip down to Concord Speedway in hopes of upsetting Rowe for the national championship.

The race for the PASS South Super Late Model title, however, is much closer.  Kodie Conner and Matt Craig are separated by only four points entering Saturday's 125-lapper and there are plenty of ironies that surround the two drivers.  In addition to both being teenagers, each are from nearby Kannapolis and both started racing across the street from the Concord Speedway half-mile at the facility's quarter-mile track; Conner in Bandoleros and Craig in Legends cars.  When either driver wins the championship this weekend, they will join Alex Haase, Ryan Blaney, and Tate Fogleman as teens that have been able to claim the South's oldest Super Late Model title.

Conner comes into this weekend's Mason-Dixon Meltdown finale as the unlikely points leader, considering that this is his rookie season competing in PASS Super Late Models.  But, a strong runner-up finish early in the season at Dillon Motor Speedway and his first start in the prestigious Oxford 250 have shown that Conner has what it takes to compete alongside short track racing's best.

"I know going into the Meltdown at Concord, it's going to be tough, but to be competing for the championship and having a four point lead does help," says Conner, driver of the Champion Spark Plugs/Trump For President Toyota #45.  "It's been a great year, we became teammates with Matt Craig, so a battle among friends will determine the champion."

Likewise, Craig has had a breakout season that has seen him emerge as one of the top Super Late Model racers in the country.  Like Conner, things started quickly for Craig, charging back from an electrical problem to capture his first career PASS South Super Late Model win in April at Caraway Speedway.  Craig led the points at times during the summer and just missed out on more checkered flags at Anderson Motor Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway.  Craig returns to Concord Speedway on Saturdaydriving for his family-owned team.  The same team that drivers such as Clay Rogers, Rodney Childers, and Jeff Fultz have driven to victory lane at Concord in the past.

"I really hope we can pull it off this weekend and win the championship," says Craig, who drives the C&C Boilers Sales & Service #54 Chevrolet.  "I think the best thing for me this week is to go through my regular routine, try not to think about it all week, and be ready to go on Saturday at Concord."

While the championship leaders will be fighting for the titles, drivers from across North America will be looking to get to victory lane on Saturday.  Trevor Sanborn will make the trip down from Maine driving the potent Woodman Racing #4, while fellow Mainer Dave Farrington, Jr. will be making his first trip to compete in the south.  JP Josiasse once again makes the 20-plus hour trip from Ontario, while on the other end of the spectrum, Dustin Dunn heads up from Florida for his second PASS South start, as well as Terry Horak.  Georgia's Spencer Davis returns to PASS for the first time this season, and will be joined by Oklahoma's Tanner Berryhill and New York's Christian Eckes.  Local favorites looking to go to victory lane will be Jared Irvan, Wes Burton, and Jake Spillers.

All the action gets under way on Thursday at Concord Speedway with an optional practice for all divisions from Noon – 6 PMOn Friday, practice begins at 10 AM, with qualifying at 5 PM, and features for the Vintage Modifieds, Street Stocks, Vintage Sportsman, and Mini Stock starting around 6:30 PM.  Then, on Saturday, practice starts at 9 AM, followed by the Pit Party at 12:30 PM, and main events going green at 2 PM for the PASS South Super Late Models, Tour-type Modifieds, Limited Late Models, SK Modifieds and Vintage Cars.

The Pro All Stars Series is recognized as North America's premier sanctioning body for asphalt Super Late Models and Modifieds and boasts such marquee events as the legendary Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway and PASS South's Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway.  For technical information concerning all PASS divisions please send questions to passracing@roadrunner.com.  For media or marketing questions, please contact Alan Dietz at 704-231-2039 or alandietzpass@live.com.  And, don't forget to "Like" the Pro All Stars Series on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @PASSSLM14 to keep up with breaking news as it happens.

Raphaël Lessard se rapproche du titre de champion de CARS Super Late Model Tour!

RAPHAËL LESSARD

# 99 FRL Express/Team Coach Imaging /Toyota/JBLAudio

ARCA releases 2017 General Tire Superspeedway Challenge schedule

TOLEDO, Ohio (Oct. 26, 2016) - ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards officials have released the 2017 General Tire Superspeedway Challenge schedule featuring eight race dates across seven states at seven superspeedways.

"These tracks provided exciting race action in our inaugural season and just as we hoped, the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge came down to the end," said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for General Tire. "We can't wait to get back to these tracks to see what the 2017 season will bring. We know it will be worth watching."

A tradition that began in 1964, ARCA's General Tire Superspeedway schedule kicks off at Daytona Int'l Speedway with the 54th running of the Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire Saturday afternoon, February 18. ARCA's season opener precedes NASCAR's Unlimited, which follows under the lights.

Talladega Superspeedway will host the tour next with the 55th annual General Tire 200 on the 2.66-mile superspeedway May 5. ARCA's first race at Talladega was in 1969.

Michigan Int'l Speedway is back on board for its annual Corrigan Oil 200 on Father's Day weekend Friday, June 16, the 36th ARCA race at Michigan since 1980.Kentucky Speedway race action 2016

Pocono Raceway, an ARCA tradition since 1983, returns with two races, the General Tire #Anywhere Is Possible 200 on June 9, followed by the ARCA Series 150 on July 28. The ARCA races at Pocono will be the tour's 64th and 65th on the 2.5-mile triangular superspeedway.

The 2017 season wraps with three consecutive superspeedway races at Chicagoland Speedway (Sept. 14), Kentucky Speedway on General Tire Super Weekend (Sept. 22) and the season finale at Kansas Speedway October 20. The events at Chicagoland and Kansas mark the 17th consecutive ARCA races at each track. The event at Kentucky is the 24th ARCA race on the Sparta, Kentucky mile-and-a-half track since 2000.

"High speed racing events at tracks over one mile in length have been a vital component of the ARCA Racing Series schedule since 1964, and the ARCA General Tire Superspeedway Challenge recognizes top performance across these venues," said ARCA President Ron Drager. "We value the opportunity to race at some of the greatest tracks in the world, and with every race car running General Tires it's fitting that the General Tire brand entitles the Superspeedway Challenge."

ARCA will share the announced race venues with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

"General Tire has truly stepped up to support ARCA's superspeedway events," said ARCA's Vice President of Business Development & Corporate Partnerships Mark Gundrum. "In addition to the naming rights and financial support for the superspeedway challenge, General Tire has engaged in several of the race events via title sponsorship, presenting sponsorship and weekend sponsorship."

ARCA has crowned a General Tire Superspeedway Challenge champion every year since 1984, the late Davey Allison the inaugural superspeedway champion. Other superspeedway champions include Bill Venturini, Bob Keselowski, Mike Wallace, Tim Steele, Frank Kimmel, Erin Crocker, Chris Buescher and Brennan Poole. Dalton Sargeant, driving for Venturini Motorsports, is ARCA's most recent speedway champ (2016).

The General Tire Superspeedway Challenge champion team receives a $10,000 cash award at the year-end championship awards banquet each December.

ARCA officials expect to release the remainder of the 2017 ARCA Racing Series schedule in the near future.

NASCAR Updates Driver Participation Guidelines for 2017

NASCAR Updates Driver Participation Guidelines for 2017

New Guidelines Further Elevate Next Generation of Stars; Strengthen Series Identity

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 26, 2016) – In an announcement that will put an even brighter spotlight on the next generation of stars and bolster the identity of all three of its national series, NASCAR announced on Wednesday driver participation guidelines for the 2017 season. The new guidelines limit the number of events a premier series driver can race in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Starting next season, premier series drivers with more than five years of full-time experience will be eligible to compete in a maximum of 10 races in the XFINITY Series and seven races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Additionally, drivers with more than five years of full-time premier series experience will be ineligible to compete in the final eight races in each series, as well as the Dash 4 Cash races in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. The final eight races are comprised of the regular season finale and the entirety of the Chase in each series.

Drivers earning premier series points in 2017 also are not eligible to compete in the 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship Races at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

"The updated guidelines will elevate the stature of our future stars, while also providing them the opportunity to compete against the best in professional motorsports," said Jim Cassidy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. "These updated guidelines are the result of a collaborative effort involving the entire industry, and will ultimately better showcase the emerging stars of NASCAR."

Drivers with more than five years of full-time experience in the premier series still can run for an XFINITY Series or Camping World Truck Series championship, provided they have declared for championship points in the respective series.

Wednesday's announcement signals the next step in NASCAR's driver participation guideline evolution. Prior to the 2016 season, NASCAR announced that members of the 2015 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup field would be ineligible to compete in the 2016 Championship Race in both the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. In 2011, NASCAR implemented a rule requiring drivers to select one of the three national series in which to collect championship points.

Burt Myers Claims Caraway Win And Inaugural SMRS Modified Championship

Burt Myers Claims Caraway Win And Inaugural SMRS Modified Championship

  • For Immediate Release

SOPHIA, NC (October 22) – Walnut Cove, NC's Burt Myers pulled the double Saturday night at Caraway Speedway by claiming the win in the Kenny Minter Memorial 125 and, in so doing, taking the inaugural Southern Modified Racing Series (SMRS) presented by PASS points championship.  Myers second career SMRS win caps off a remarkable 2016 season which also saw him take the titles at Bowman Gray Stadium and in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

"This is just a dream come true because I feel like in my lifetime nobody will be able to say they won all three titles in the same season," said Myers in victory lane, who entered the race tied for the championship lead with John Smith.  "It took us a long enough time to figure out the halfway adjustments and tonight we made the right ones and this car was just awesome."

For the fifth time this year, Brandon Ward was able to capture the Precision Built Spindles Pole Award with a lap of 15.910seconds (102.954 MPH) around the .455 mile facility.  Ward's good fortune early on continued as he drew pill number one in the redraw to start on the pole alongside veteran racer Gary Putnam.

Prior to the start, fans and racers paused in a moment of silence to remember Kenny Minter who lost his life in a racing accident at Caraway Speedway in 1995.  Following the command to start engines by Kenny Minter, Jr., Ward continued to flex his muscle as he jumped out to the early lead.  Brian Loftin would keep pace with Ward early on, until being bypassed for second by Myers on lap 47.  Just three laps later, the first caution of the night would wave for the stalled car of Mike Norman.  Several cars pitted for adjustments including Myers, Smith, Cale Gale, and LW Miller.

Back under green, Ward would continue to lead over Loftin and Jason Myers.  On lap 61, J. Myers would move by Loftin for second.  Loftin would be freight trained by the lead group of cars and fall to eighth.  Putnam was making his way back to the front too, passing Tim Brown for third on lap 75.

The caution waved again for debris in turn two with 33 laps to go, allowing the entire field to pit for new tires, adjustments, and fuel.  Putnam, Gale, Miller, and Ward would be the first off pit row to lead the field to green on the next restart.  Putnam led on the restart until the caution waved two laps later for Smith, who spun in turn two after slight contact from Loftin. Smith pitted, but made an illegal tire change and was penalized for two laps.

On the next restart, Putnam spun his tires and touched J.Myers as he tried to regain control, causing J. Myers to make contact with the front stretch wall.  While they continued on without bringing out a caution, Gale moved to lead over Putnam and Ward.  But, they would make contact in turn one while battling for second with 23 laps to go, causing Putnam to spin.  Ward would retire from the event due to suspension problems.

On the restart, B. Myers was able to get the advantage over Gale from the outside to take the lead.  The final caution of the night would wave with 13 laps to go when Miller spun in turn four after contact from Putnam.  B. Myers was able to get a better restart than Loftin and would lead the rest of the way to take the Kenny Minter Memorial win over Loftin, J. Myers, Brown, and Miller.  Rounding out the top 10 were Gale, Mod Lite winner, Scott Hall, Tom Buzze, Putnam, and Smith.

While the SMRS Tour Modifieds presented by PASS are finished for the year, Tour Modifieds will be racing for $10,000 to win and the PASS South and PASS National Super Late Models champions will be crowned on November 4-5 as part of the 14th Annual North-South Shootout at Concord Speedway.  For more information please go to northsouthshootout.com.

U.S. District Court Dismisses Case of Suspended Dirt Late Model Dream Drivers

U.S. District Court Dismisses Case of Suspended Dirt Late Model Dream Drivers

Posted: 19 Oct 2016 06:58 AM PDT

Drivers can return to competition with payment of fines and reinstatement of suspended DIRTcar membership

CONCORD, N.C. – Oct. 18, 2016 – U.S. District Judge Mae A. D'Agostino today issued a stipulation of dismissal in the case of plaintiffs Scott Bloomquist, Gregg Satterlee, Jimmy Owens, and Ricky Thornton vs World Racing Group and subsidiary DIRTcar Racing, Eldora Speedway, and its owner Tony Stewart regarding suspension following tire analysis after Eldora Speedway's Dirt Late Model Dream.

Drivers will be allowed to return to competition with payment of the fine and fees imposed, following a request for reinstatement of their suspended DIRTcar membership.

"We're happy this is over," said DIRTcar Racing COO Tom Deery. "It is a waste of resources that should have been invested in the sport rather than damaging it and polarizing fans."

The attorney for the five plaintiffs and their team owners, R&W Motorsports, LLC, W.G. Satterlee & Sons, Inc., Best Performance Motorsports and J.R. Motorsports, LLC, filed a voluntary motion for dismissal on Monday.

Brandon Sheppard, among the five drivers originally involved, voluntarily withdrew from the case on September 9, 2016.

The New York law firms of Lester Schwab Katz & Dwyer, LLP and Ahmuty, Demers and McManus represented DIRTcar Racing, Eldora and Stewart in the Northern District of New York. Counsel from IceMiller, LLP (Indianapolis) and Apollo Sports & Entertainment Group Law (Charlotte) complemented the team.

On June 20, 2016 DIRTcar Racing officials disqualified five competitors following failed post-race inspections at the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway.

Tire samples collected from the #B5 driven by BSheppard, #22 driven by Satterlee, #20 driven by Owens, #33X driven by Thornton and #0 driven by Bloomquist and tested by an independent laboratory did not meet established benchmarks in a chemical analysis. A total of 32 samples were taken throughout the weekend, June 9, 10 and 11, from participants.

All five competitors were found to be in violation of rule 15.11-G and were fined in accordance with rule 11.1.

Rule 15.11-G.) Chemical alterations, vulcanizing, tire softening, defacing and/or altering the face of the tire lettering and/or tire stamping will not be permitted. Chemicals or tire softening is not permitted at any time. Tires may be inspected at any time. Any violation with any tire presented for competition may result in immediate disqualification from the events and/or other penalties including but not limited to; loss of money, fine, loss of points and/or suspension.

All five drivers were disqualified from the event, including the loss of all purse money and championship points earned during the event, fined $1,000 and penalized 1,000 DIRTcar Late Model points for the 2016 season. The total penalty, including loss of money, fine and the cost of the tire analysis was $19,630 for Sheppard, $4,655 for Satterlee, $7,630 for Owens, $10,930 for Thornton and $6,105 for Bloomquist.

Each was also placed under a three-month suspension from all DIRTcar sanctioned events, but this was delayed by their appeals.

On June 29, 2016, the World Racing Group Commission upheld the penalties issued. The three-member panel heard appeals in Indianapolis, and after deliberation, panel members agreed that the collection and testing of the samples followed accepted protocols and the samples did not meet accepted benchmarks.

As stated in the rule book, DIRTcar members in good standing can request a final appeal be heard by the World Racing Group Commission Commissioner Potestas. The five plaintiffs pursued this option.

On July 23, 2016, World Racing Group Commission Chairman Potestas, motorsports executive John Darby, again upheld the penalties issued by DIRTcar Racing.

Darby interviewed all five competitors, DIRTcar Racing Officials, and visited the testing facility to inspect the testing procedure.

In an effort to promote consistency for the length of suspensions, Darby decided that the final suspension should be defined by weeks, not months as prescribed in the original penalty. The original three-month suspension became a 12-week suspension from all DIRTcar sanctioned events, including World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series competition. The suspensions commenced on June 21, 2016 and concluded on Sept. 13, 2016.

Also announced was a multi-year agreement with Old World Industries (OWI) to make PEAK® title sponsor of the NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series, only the third title sponsor in series history. Additionally, PEAK becomes an Official NASCAR Partner along with other key brands such as BlueDEF®.

"The NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series is a place where young drivers are honing their skills and competing for a championship against the toughest competition in Latin America," said Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. "The series drives interest in stock car racing in Mexico, while cultivating talented drivers and pit crew members aspiring to compete at the NASCAR national series level."

The NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series will make its return with an exhibition race on Dec. 3-4 in Mexico City. Celebrating its 10th season, the series will officially get underway in 2017, with a full championship schedule that will be announced at a later date.

The NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series has helped develop some of NASCAR's best young drivers, including Daniel Suárez, who is the first Mexican-born driver to capture Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors; win a NASCAR national series race; lead a national series in points; and compete in the NASCAR XFINITY Series Chase for a championship – which he is currently pursuing. Roy s'approche du top-25 malgré une défectuosité de radiocommunications

NASCAR Xfinity – Kansas Lottery 300
