AMERICAN CANADIAN TOUR ANNOUNCES 2010 'TIGER' SPORTSMAN TOUR

For Immediate Release:                                       ACT – 113009-57

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) Tiger Sportsman division will compete in a mini-series in 2010. The popular Limited Late Model division will have a new tire by Goodyear, an expansion division at the beautiful White Mountain Motorsport Park (WMMP), and a four event Tour at four different race venues.

The opening event will be held on Saturday, June 5 at the White Mountain Motorsport Park ¼ mile oval in Woodstock, New Hampshire. White Mountain was one of the original tracks that helped start the ACT Late Model division touring back in 1998. That series has been going back to WMMP ever since. “We have adopted the ACT Sportsman rules for 2010 at WMMP, and with the large number of these cars at Thunder Road, we are hoping to show our race teams and fans how much fun this division can be for weekly racing,” said Donnie Avery, owner of the family run granite state facility.

The home of the Tiger Sportsman since 1964, Thunder Road in Barre, VT will host the second event on Thursday, July 1. The Tiger Sportsman division generally has between 40-45 teams that compete on a weekly basis at Thunder Road. One of the highlights for the division each season has been the 100 lap events. Brendan Moodie, a veteran of the division, said, “I think it’s great that we have this Tiger ‘mini-series’ for our division. Going to different tracks is not only fun but it presents a great learning experience. We really have to do some homework to find set-ups, and now with three other tracks participating, it will be a level playing field for all the teams.”

On Saturday, August 21, the Tour will make a return visit to Canaan Speedway in Canaan, New Hampshire. Sportsman teams from New York and Vermont converged on the smooth 1/3 mile track a year ago. Canaan management asked ACT for a Tiger Series return engagement in 2010. Teams all felt Canaan was the ‘perfect Tiger track’. Several years ago, the ACT Tiger teams visited Canaan on four occasions and had four different winners.

The Tiger Sportsman Tour will close the season at the Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH on Saturday, October 9. This has been a favorite for many of the ACT Tiger Sportsman teams over the past few years. The 2010 Championship and final point standings will be decided with the finale event of 2010 at the new Riverside Speedway.

The metric chassis 602 GM crate motor division boasts many graduates from its ranks that have become the stars of the American Canadian Tour over the years. Eric Williams, John Donahue, Cooper MacRitchie, and David Pembroke were all former champions of the division. The recent youth movement from both the NEKC carting organization and Thunder Road’s Allen Lumber Street Stocks has made the division one of the most competitive and healthiest in the region. Now many fans from throughout the region will get to see Thunder Road’s famous ‘Flying Tiger Sportsman’ in 2010.

MOTORCYCLE LEGENDS MIGUEL AND YVON DUHAMEL ARE COMING TO THE CME

(TORONTO, ON // DECEMBER 15, 2009) There is no question that Canada’s first family of motorcycle racing is the Duhamel clan, and two of its legendary members will make an appearance at the Canadian Motorsports Expo Jan. 22-24, 2010.

Yvon Duhamel, the patriarch of the family, and his son Miguel, will be at the International Centre in Mississauga, ON to meet racing fans, sign autographs and talk about their storied careers.

A native of Montreal, Yvon Duhamel made his name as a versatile racer who tackled virtually every form of the sport, from motocross and ice racing to flat track and road race. He earned international acclaim, however, for his road racing exploits. Riding for the Deeley Yamaha team, Duhamel finished second in the Daytona 200 in 1968 and qualified on pole for the 1969 Daytona 200 with the first ever qualifying lap above 150 mph.

In 1971 Yvon joined the Kawasaki factory racing team and became famous for his ability to tame the daunting H2R three-cylinder two-stroke. He won five American Motorcyclist Association Nationals for Kawasaki between 1971 and ’73 and represented the company on the international stage.

Miguel Duhamel is one of the most successful racers in AMA history. He has won the Daytona 200 on five occasions, claimed five AMA Supersport titles, two AMA Formula Xtreme crowns and was AMA Superbike champion in 1995.

He was the AMA Superbike Rookie of the Year in 1990, riding for the Yoshimura Suzuki team. He raced for Honda in 1991 and competed in Grand Prix racing in 1992 on a Yamaha. After a year with Kawasaki in the U.S. in ’93, he helped Harley-Davidson’s fledgling Superbike team in 1994 before joining the American Honda factory squad in 1995 for a relationship that would last 14 years.

Miguel is the winningest rider in AMA road racing history with 86 victories in Superbike, Supersport and Formula Xtreme competition.

“Having Yvon and Miguel Duhamel join us at the Canadian Motorsports Expo brings a whole new element to this event,” said CME show founder and president Glenn Butt. “They are without a doubt two of this country’s most successful racing exports and have represented Canada with great distinction internationally.”

ABOUT THE CME: The Canadian Motorsports Expo is a three-day celebration of Canadian racing that runs January 22 to 24 at the International Centre (6900 Airport Road in Mississauga). The show is powered by Inside Track Motorsport News and supported by companies like Lucas Oil Canada, NASCAR Canada, Mosport International Raceway and Canadian Tire. In addition to booths and racing vehicles representing the entire spectrum of Canadian motorsports, the show is loaded with seminars and forums to entertain and inform racers and fans alike. Star drivers Matt Kenseth, Paul Tracy, Ron Fellows and Jessica Zemken will be at the CME to sign autographs and meet the fans.

REIGNING DAYTONA 500 CHAMPION AND PAST NASCAR SPRINT CUP CHAMP COMING TO THE CME

NASCAR star Matt Kenseth has accomplished a lot during his racing career. The 37-year-old Wisconsin native won the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship in dominant fashion, and he will head to Daytona International Speedway, next February, as the defending winner of the world’s most coveted stock car race; the Daytona 500.

But before he does that, Matt Kenseth will be coming to Toronto’s International Centre on Saturday, January 23, 2010 to meet with fans and sign autographs at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Kenseth has many enthusiastic fans in Canada, many of whom were at Cayuga Speedway in 2002 when he emerged victorious in a thrilling CASCAR race, beating a field comprised of several other NASCAR stars and talented Canadian racers.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to the Canadian Motorsports Expo,” said Kenseth, in announcing his appearance at the CME. “Canadian racing fans are very passionate about NASCAR and it’ll be great to have an opportunity to talk racing with them again, and to sign some autographs. One of the last times I was near Toronto, it was for a CASCAR race at Cayuga Speedway, which I was fortunate enough to win. So much has happened since then; it’ll be fun to catch up with everyone at the Canadian Motorsports Expo.”

Speaking on behalf of the CME, show founder and President Glenn Butt said, “We are extremely proud to announce Matt Kenseth’s participation at the 4th Annual Canadian Motorsports Expo. There are very few people in the world who have won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship or stood in victory lane at the Daytona 500. Matt Kenseth is a member of a very exclusive club of individuals who have done both. We are all thrilled that he will be coming to the CME.”

Specific details about Matt Kenseth’s appearance will be released in the coming weeks.

ABOUT MATT KENSETH: Matt Kenseth drives the No. 17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Roush Fenway Racing. Kenseth’s victory in the 2009 Daytona 500 was the first-ever for the Roush Fenway team. Kenseth, who has 18 Sprint Cup victories to his credit, hails from Cambridge, Wisconsin. He won the NASCAR Sprint Cup title in 2003, just three seasons after being honoured as the series’ top rookie (in 2000). Prior to that, he competed in the ARTGO, ASA, Hooter’s Late Model and Nationwide Series. Kenseth won the International Race of Champions (IROC) title in 2004.

NOUVELLE DIRECTION @ CAPITAL CITY SPEEEDWAY

Since Friday, you can read on Capital City Speedway’s website that Arnie Malcom, promoter and general manager, since 2005 will no longer be working for the track.

Let’s recap : he was given the keys to the facility by the Drummond group to turn things around after the Mottodrome episode. The last two years you could see the results of the turn around: better crowd, more cars on the track – especially Late Models and a much improved racing show on the track.

No news on who will take over for the Malcom familly. As for Arnie Malcom in an email response to me said he was still evaluating opportunities.

In the same posting we find out that track announcer Brian Goudge will also not be back at the CSS facility. No news on who is replacement will be.

Here is what can be read on CSS’ website:

WE SAY GOOD BUY FROM CAPITAL CITY SPEEDWAY .CA: DEC 12. 2009
Well folks as we announced at the banquet, we would not be back in 2010 and this write up is to officially confirm that to the stock car community. Its been a blast and even though we have not made friends with everyone along the way, (you never can running a race track) we hope we have done something's that have made you pleased. When we took over the speedway in 2005 at the encouragement of the Drummond Family we really thought we would be around for a long while like we have at Luskville Dragway and that was the plans. Motorsports has been part of our entire Families lives for the past 40 years, our kids have never spend a weekend at a cottage by a lake, as a race track as always been their weekend cottage's. And that was no different when we where asked to revive Capital City Speedway, all of us put our hearts and souls into doing just that. However I guess in some ways we did too good a job, as it seems that now that we have rebuilt the speedway a certain degree from where it was when we took over, it looks appealing to others. Too all of the advertisers, all of the staff the drivers, the teams and the fans, the last four years has been fun but now the end has come for us. We will miss the track and most of those associated with it, leaving is not easy and not what we wanted, I hope we will be remembered for what we did. Monster Jam will always be a highlight, as will being part of Loudon NH with one of our drivers out there competing on a super speedway, also watching so many new people come into the sport and do so well that included many new female drivers for the sport. We have heard that the track will be repaved and that is something we asked for each and every year, so if that happens then maybe the last four years played a part in that happening, and that is great for you racers, you deserve it. We wish nothing but good things to all you drivers and teams and I certainly expect too see many of you next summer at one track or the other.

*BRIAN GOUDGE RE
TIRES FROM CAPITAL CITY SPEEDWAY: When we where asked by the Drummonds in 2005 to take over Capital City Speedway and see if we could rebuild it, we knew we had our work cut out for us. And one of the first people we contacted was Brian "Motor Mouth" Goudge, who I had known and worked with many times at Capital City Speedway in the Past. We firmly believed that Brian was a Key ingredient in any rebuilding that was too go on at the speedway and I think the past four years have proven that. Considered one of, if not thee best race track announcers anywhere, Brian played a huge part in any success we saw at the track and was a key factor in the rebirth of CCS. As things start to change at the speedway Brian has decided it is time for him too move on also. I think it is safe too say that Brian was a major part in all the "Good Times" that Capital City Speedway has had over the years, whether it was under Dave Booth, Penny Bell or the Malcolm Family. As far as Im concerned Brian's Voice at Capital City Speedway shouting out, "and here they come out of corner #4, wheel to wheel, bumper to bumper to bumper" is Capital City Speedway and it will never be the same with out him. I have also added a brief email message that is added below from Brian:
Hi Arnie,

I’m okay with my retirement being included in your announcement. I have enjoyed the multi-year relationship with the various promoters and thought that we were on to something bigger and better as we moved forward. It’s been a great ride... who knows what the future will bring for “MotorMouth”?

All the best!

Cheers,

Brian
