PLATTSBURGH, NY. -- Chris Raabe won Thursday's 60-lap American Racer North Series Feature at Airborne Park Speedway over David Hebert and Mike Mahaney, leading all but one lap and collecting $3,250USD ($4,500CAD) for his efforts. Bucko Branham won the Sportsman Feature with Tylor Terry, Kris Clark and Jamie Whitney, Jr. all reaching victory lane.
Adam Pierson and Raabe had the front row for the modified feature. Raabe won his heat race and Pierson finished 4th in his, making the redraw. Raabe led the first lap while Pierson slid back to 4th spot as Hebert and Felix Roy got on the move early. A trio of caution flags fell in the first half of the race. One for Jeffrey Lapalme, who had smoke and the occasional flame underneath his car. Another for Brianna Ladouceur with a rear suspension issue and another for George Foley, who stopped on the frontstretch. Ladouceur returned, Foley was not able to.
Roy took the lead from Raabe on lap 15 right before one of the cautions flew. He chose the inside for the restart, and it appeared he may be set to lead the way as the bottom had been dominant, but Raabe worked the middle to perfection on the restart and led lap 16. From there he did not look back, lapping up to 9th position and winning by nearly a half-track. Hebert moved around Roy late as the pair battled for 2nd, eventually allowing Mahaney to get around Roy as well to cap off the podium. Roy was 4th with Tim Fuller 5th. Gage Morin finished 6th with Carey Terrance 7th, William Racine 8th and Adam Pierson and Steve Bernier completing the top-10.
In the J&S Steel Sportsman, Bucko Branham passed Tanner Forbes late to pick up his first win of the year. Forbes shared the front row with Caleb Durgan and led from the early going. Branham started 10th and began making his way forward early, using a lap 15 caution and restart to catch Forbes and pass him a few laps later. In the final two laps, Joey Scarborough took over 2nd position and was reeling Branham in but ran out of time as Branham returned to the winners' circle. Scarborough was 2nd and Michael Wright was 3rd. Evan Roberts surged to 4th from 9th. Donovan Lussier completed the top-five. Forbes was scored 9th at the finish, being docked five positions for contact with another car after the checkered flag.
Tylor Terry won the 9th State Cannabis Renegade Feature, his fourth win of the season. Tyler Irwin and Mark Caron led the field to green for their 20-lap feature. Irwin was the early leader, looking as good as he has all year, leading the first three laps with Richie Turner entering the mix on the outside. Turner took the lead from Irwin for the next three laps, but Terry was on the move down low and led from lap seven until the checkered flag. Nat Guay was 2nd with Turner 3rd, scoring his second podium in a row. Shawn Duquette survived mechanical issues early in the night to finish 4th. Josh Terry was 5th. Tylor Terry also collected the $50 Precision Heating and Air Conditioning Hard Charger bonus, going from 9th to win, passing eight cars.
Kris Clark won the Moore Recycling Mini Stock Feature despite starting 20h. Clar drove around the outside of Speedy Bresette on lap 11 and pulled away for his second win in a row. Bresette was 2nd with Senecal 3rd. Caleb Tourville was 4th with Josh LaPorte, Jr. completing the top-five.
Clark wasn't the only mini stocker to go back-to-back on Thursday, either. Jamie Whitney., Jr. won the B-Feature for the second week in a row, despite being turned on the opening lap. Whitney took the lead in a three-way battle between himself, Kyle Botala and Brett Manor, with Whitney coming out on top. Botala was 2nd and Manor was 3rd. Tyler Bell and Haiden Bordeau completed the top-five.
Airborne Park Speedway is back with more Thursday Night Thunder, powered by New England Ford Dealers, on Thursday, August 1 for Riley Ford Night. There will be a $500-to-win Moore Recycling Mini Stock Feature, along with a full card of the regular divisions, including the Be Cool Heating and Air Conditioning 358 Modifieds. PLATTSBURGH, NY. -- St. Hyacinthe, Quebec's Steve Bernier dominated Thursday's Be Cool Heating and Air Conditioning 358 Modified Feature at Airborne Park, leading all 30 laps and winning by more than three seconds over Felix Roy. Mike Phinney survived a series of late yellows to win his first J&S Steel Sportsman feature of the year. Other winners on the night included Shawn Duquette (Renegade), Kris Clark (Mini Stock A) and Jamie Whitney, Jr. (Mini Stock B). All winners from Thursday were celebrating their first win of the season.
Bernier started on the pole of his heat race by virtue of a pill draw. The modifieds ran for no points due to other races in the region. Bernier was clearly fast in his qualifier, winning by four seconds over George Foley. A six-car redraw gave Bernier the pole for the feature, and he drove away with the win in the caution-free affair, lapping up to 8th position and closing in on 7th at the end. Flex Roy followed him across the line in 2nd with Justin Stone 3rd. Chris Raabe and Foley rounded out the top-five.
In the sportsman ranks it was Willsboro, NY's Mike Phinney picking up the win. Caleb Durgan started on point and led until lap 21 when Phinney passed him on a restart. Durgan then suffered a flat tire a few laps later and retired to the pits. Phinney held off Joey Scarborough, who started 13th, for two restarts in the final four laps to score the win. Scarborough was 2nd with Travis Bruno 3rd, Evan Roberts 4th and points leader Nick Heywood 5th.
Morrisonville, NY's Shawn Duquette won the 9th State Cannabis Renegade Feature, extending his points lead. Duquette has been a model of consistency in 2024, topping the point standings by finishing every race inside the top-five. He and Highgate, V.T.'s Richie Turner battled side-by-side for virtually the entire 20-lap distance with Turner way up top on the cushion and Duquette down low. Eventually, Turner's ride appeared to fade in the final three laps, allowing Duquette to scoot by on the bottom. Turner buried his car into the final corner on the outside, but could not pass Duquette, settling for 2nd. Josh Terry was 3rd. Nate Guay and Billy Thwaits completed the top-five. Tylor Terry was 6th, driving Tyler Irwin's truck after a mechanical failure in hot laps. The Precision HVAC $50 Hard-Charger Bonus was awarded to Duquette. He went from 6th to 1st, passing five cars.
The Moore Recycling Mini Stock A-Main was won by Keeseville, NY's Kris Clark. Clark started 13th while Jason Bradley and Kyle Botala enjoyed the front row. Bradley led initially with Botala in tow, but eventually broke and headed pit-side. From there, Glenn Engstrom took over the top spot, holding it until lap seven when Clark assumed control of the pack. Josh Blake, Cale Manor and Josh LaPorte, Sr., all tried to track down Clark, but their efforts were not fruitful, and Clark cruised to his first win of the year. Blake was 2nd with Manor 3rd for his best run of the year. LaPorte was 4th and Engstrom finished 5th. Jamie Whitney Jr. won the B-Feature. Rick Doner surrendered the points lead after a flip in his heat race, but issues in the A-Main for other contenders like Ryan Senecal, Ken Tourville and the Bresette cousins made Doner's loss minimal, he trails Senecal now by four points.
Airborne Park Speedway returns to racing with 'Thursday Night Thunder' on July 25. The American Racer North series makes its way to Plattsburgh with a 60-lap, $3,000USD-to-win feature for the 358 modifieds. Hoosier Tires are permitted for this event, which will pit Airborne Park's best regulars like Mike Mahaney and Tim Fuller against some of Canada's best 358 drivers like Ryan Arbuthnot and David Hebert. Pit gates open at 4PM with racing at 7!

For the sportsman, renegades and mini-stocks, Thursday's race is a regular show. Sportsman ace Nick Heywood will look to expand his 30-point lead over Joey Scarborough while Donovan Lussier looks to get back in the hunt after finishing seven laps down last week. He is 41 points back of the lead.
In the fender cars, Tylor Terry has some work to do to cut into Shawn Duquette's 28-point advantage in the renegades. Duquette has yet to finish outside the top-five this season. Nate Guay is 3rd in the standings, only two points behind Terry. Ryan Senecal leads the Moore Recycling Mini-Stock standings by four markers over Clintonville's Rick Doner, who endured a nasty roll last week. Kenny Tourville took advantage of several of the top drivers' misfortunes last week, going from 19th to 8th in the A-main. He is 17 points out of the lead in 3rd place.
General Admission price for Thursday's race is $20, kids 12 and under are free as always. Pit pricing will be $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Pits open at 4PM with the stands opening at 5:30PM. Racing starts at 7.
