The curtain is about to fall on another month of Peterborough Speedway's 2024 schedule as the Ontario Sportsman Series rolls into Central Ontario for its only visit of the year.
With the travelling group's history dating back to 2007, some of the sports most talented racers in the province have been part of the tour's line-up. Steve Roblee, Shawn McGlynn, Jay Doerr and former Peterborough Speedway regular Brandt Graham are just a few of the names fans would recognize. After sustaining injuries in racing incident, 2023 titleholder Cory McAllister was forced to step away from his Sportsman Series ride, but will be replaced by another championship winning alumni Connor James, who captured the crown in 2019.
Heading into the 100-lap headliner, presented by Ecotek – Saturday, July 27th – at Peterborough Speedway, McAllister's No. 71 leads the point standings by a 51-point margin over Brendan Patrick. Chad McGlynn, Kevin Trevellin and Michael Hryniuk Jr. complete the top-5 positions in this year's point chase. 21 different drivers have competed in at least 1 Ontario Sportsman Series date in 2024.
The local portion of the night's line-up – presented by Tirecraft – will include the home track Bone Stock, Super Stock, Late Model and Junior Late Model divisions, along with the Outlaw Midgets. This week's intermission feature will be Kid's Barrel Races. Spectator gates will open at 5:00, with the Great Canadian RV green flag at 6:00.
Saturday, August 3rd Peterborough Speedway's 2024 schedule continues with the OSCAAR Modified and Hot Rod tours joining the local Bone Stock, Mini Stock and Renegade Truck classes, with a free pre-race corn roast and Kid's Rides as the intermission attraction. Grandstand gates open at 4:00, with the first round of qualifying leaving the staging area at 6:00.
