Daytona 500 Winner Trevor Bayne Enters TD Bank 250

OXFORD, Maine - - The 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne has entered the TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.  The race will be held on July 22, 2012.

Since 2004, Oxford has attracted the elite of NASCAR to the TD Bank 250.  The trend was started with Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch competing in the event that year.  In 2005, Kenseth was joined by Kyle Busch.  The 2006 event drew Kyle Busch, Ricky Craven, Denny Hamlin and JJ Yeley.  2007 saw Terry Labonte and Kevin Lepage challenge the Late Model pilots.  In 2008, Kevin Harvick raised the bar for the NASCAR crowd, winning the event.  The 2009 event saw a Wallace family invasion, with Rusty as the Grand Marshall and Kenny and Steven competing on the track.  Breakout Cup star Brad Keselowski competed in 2010.  2011 saw the return of Kyle Busch, competing in his third TD Bank 250.  Kyle did not disappoint, winning the race in style.

 

 “I am excited to run the TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.  It is one of those events that every short track racer from around the country knows about and hopes to get a chance to run one day.  The race is super competitive, but I feel like I have a good shot,” Bayne stated.  “Kevin and Kyle have set a high standard the past few years and I will definitely check in with them to get some advice.”

 Oxford Plains Speedway owner Bill Ryan said, “We are excited to have Trevor come to Oxford to race.  It is a thrill for our fans to see the best NASCAR has to offer right here on a short track in Maine.  Trevor is a great driver and I am sure he will be in the mix all race.”

 Bayne, who hails from Knoxville, Tenn., competed for eight years on the go-kart circuit earning three World Championships, with over 300 feature wins and 18 State and track Championships combined.   Bayne moved to NASCAR in 2009 and has regularly competed in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series since.  He became the youngest Daytona 500 winner in history with his effort in 2011.  He also won at Texas Motor Speedway in the Nationwide Series in 2011.   For more information on Trevor, go to www.trevorbayne.com.

Airborne Speedway recap 6/30/12

McGrail lands 1st Airborne victory

Branham, Boutin also winners

South Plattsburgh – After a dozen laps of close-quarters racing for the lead between Craig Reyell and the father-son duo of Michel and Maxime Viens, Pat McGrail of Candiac, QC arrived on the scene, took control and scored his first Airborne Modified win.

 

McGrail was sporting a new Troyer chassis. He shot the gap between Andy Heywood and Todd Ormsby on lap 12 to move into striking position and put the Fastenal No. 10 on the point for keeps two laps later. While the other early contenders began to fade, Maxime Viens held his ground to claim runner-up honors.

 

George Foley rallied late up the outside to edge Heywood for third. Greg Atkins and Leon Gonyo finished a few feet apart in 5th and 6th.  Adam Bartemy, point leader Todd Stone, Aaron Bartemy and Vince Quenneville filled out the top ten. Reyell, who led for 13 laps, wound up 11th.

 

Patrick Dupree brought out a caution with four laps remaining, but Viens could not stay with McGrail when the green came back out. “I’ve had fast car and some 2nd’s and 3rd’s, but this is my first win here and it feels very good,” McGrail said. The second-place finish was a seasonal best for Viens.

 

Bucko Branham padded his slim point lead in the J&S Steel Limited Late Model division by recording his fourth win after several door-to-door laps with Shawn Duquette perched on his outside. Branham used an early restart to rush to the front in the low lane in the Plattburgh Paving/Bud Lite No. 20.

 

When Duquette pushed up high on a turn two exit midway through the race, Jamy Begor and Robin Wood got into the hunt. Wood passed Begor for second in the closing laps. Duquette held onto fourth. Brandon Atkins overhauled Keith Pelkey to round out the top five.

 

Kevin Boutin of Fairfax, VTcame out on top in the Renegade feature after getting ready to pounce as Robbie Favreau and Rick Doner battled for the lead. It was win number three for the defending Renegade champion. Doner, Favreau, Joe Warren and Robert Gordon ran 2-3-4-5.

 

Nick Heywood won his fourth Sportsman Modified feature in the Plattsburgh Distributing No 29. Lonnie Rivers and Sebastien Fournier were next in line. Fournier led the first six laps. Rivers worked underneath him for second on lap 17 of the 20-lap race.

 

Busch Mini Modified point leader Erick Sayles of Lake Placid was first to the line in the night’s finale ahead of Dale O’Neil of Mooers and Josh LaPorte of Peru. Sayles is now 3rd on the Mini Modified career win list (9).

 

Next Saturday, July 7, the J&S Steel Limited Late Models take on their Autodrome St-Eustache rivals in round three of the USA/Canada Masters Series. Maxime Pelletier of Mascouche, QC is the series point leader.

Une troisième place à Black Rock et neuvième à Merrittville.

Saint-Pie, QC …Alain Bergeron et son équipe étaient à Dundee NY vendredi soir, à la piste de Black Rock Speedway avec la série Patriots. Le pilote de Saint-Pie à toujours connu de bons résultats à cette piste de la région des Fingers Lakes. Le lendemain, c'est du côté canadien que l'équipe 8b participait à une course avec la série ESS.

 

À Black Rock vendredi, c'est de la deuxième place sur la grille de départ que Bergeron prenait le départ de la course A-Main. Restant dans la mire du meneur, le pilote québécois a été en mesure d'attaquer ce dernier à plusieurs reprises alors que les meneurs étaient parmi les retardataires, venant aux côtés de ce dernier à quelques reprises. Devant pousser à la limite sa voiture 8b Transport Benoit Lafleur, Bergeron alla un peu trop à l'extérieur et perdit une place lors des derniers tours. C'est donc au troisième rang qu'il passa le quadrillé. 'Je suis quand même satisfait, puisque j'étais avec le meneur et pu suivre le rythme tout au long de la course' de dire Bergeron. C'est en terminant au deuxième rang lors de sa qualification que Bergeron se qualifia pour la finale A-Main.

Le lendemain, samedi, la soirée s'annonçait plus difficile puisqu'avec 36 voitures dans les puits et une septième place de départ en qualification, beaucoup de travail était à venir. C'est au quatrième rang que Bergeron termina la course ce qui le qualifiait pour la finale, mais il devait prendre le départ du seizième rang. Avec une piste offrant peu de dépassements, Bergeron offrit tout de même une bonne performance en remontant jusqu'en neuvième position.

Cassius PASS King at Canaan

Second PASS North win of 2012 for Hight team - Wilson PASS Mod winner

 

CANAAN NH (6/30) Cassius Clark drove around Ben Rowe with twelve to go in Saturday night's Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Firecracker 150 at Canaan Fair Speedway to earn his second PASS super late model win of the season. Clark took advantage of the night's second restart to claim the position and the win by a .812 second margin. Rowe was out front for the majority of the night but the defending Canaan race winner had to settle for second. Travis Benjamin kept his streak of top three finishes alive, finishing third and padding his lead in the series point standings.

 

It was Rowe and Lonnie Sommerville on the front row and Rowe took the lead when the green flew .That pair took off , racing nose to tail lap after lap. The race went caution free until lap 72, taking less than 18 minutes to complete that distance. Lonnie Sommerville put his ride out front on the restart and led the way at the half way mark with Rowe, Benjamin,Cassius Clark, Matt Frahm, Derek Ramstrom, and Johnny Clark trying to chase down the leader. Rowe was quick to reclaim the lead on lap 77 as another long stretch of green flag racing ensued. Sommerville slipped high on lap 101 and Benjamin took advantage to move up to second and the top two battled nose to tail for the next 30 laps.

 

Meanwhile Cassius Clark was biding his time. Clark took over third on lap 106 and closed down on the front pair by lap 125, making his move on Benjamin for second five laps later. The second caution flag of the night waved shortly thereafter, and the restart would be pivotal. A clutch problem was hindering Rowe; Clark took advantage and cleared the 4 after a three lap side by side battle for the point.

 

Problems plagued a number of the PASS front runners. Kyle DeSouza lost an engine early on, leaving him 20th at the finish. DJ Shaw ran up front early but mechanical woes bit him as well, ending his night in 17th. Johnny Clark had a right front down just as the night's final caution flew, and that caution allowed the defending series champ to salvage a ninth place finish on the lead lap.

 

Benjamin and Sommerville each won a heat race; Dustin Hubbard was the last car on the lead lap in 12th. Two caution flags slowed the pace and the field completed 150 green flag laps in 45 minutes.

 

 

The PASS Mods field was strong once again and it looked like Bill Dixon might score a second Canaan Fair win. Dixon took the lead from Alan Wilson on lap 14 and kept Wilson in his mirror most of the way despite a rash of restarts .But Wilson got the jump on Dixon when the final green waved on lap 33 and seven laps later he was in victory lane for the first time in 2012. Dixon settled for second with Andy Shaw third, Dale Shaw fourth and Scott Alexander fifth.

Quatrième manche de la série ACT-CASTROL à l’Autodrome Montmagny

Champion en titre de la série ACT-Castrol, Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu a finalement vu la lueur au bout du tunnel en remportant cet après-midi le Montmagny 200 présenté par Méchoui International. C’est à vingt-cinq tours de la fin que Laperle a soufflé le poste de commande à Jean-François Déry pour ensuite effectuer sa première visite de la saison dans le cercle des vainqueurs. Pour sa part, Donald Theetge, le meneur au cumulatif, s’est classé troisième.

 

Par cette prestation, officieusement, Laperle serait rendu au deuxième rang du cumulatif, car cet après-midi, le Félicinois Karl Allard et Dany Trépanier ont éprouvé leur part d’ennuis. Alors qu’il était parmi les dix premiers, Trépanier a été contraint d’entrer aux puits au 17e tour. Il a connu d’autres ennuis au 48e passage et il aurait terminé en dix-huitième position. Quant à Allard, après avoir roulé en deuxième avant la mi-course, il s’est arrêté sur le tracé au 153e. Il a fallu la remorqueuse pour ramener la voiture Larue Équipement de Déneigement dans les puits. Ennuyé par des problèmes d’ignition, Allard a terminé dix-neuvième. Avec sa deuxième place et avoir mené durant 55 passages dans la deuxième moitié de ce Montmagny 200, Déry a également amélioré son classement cumulatif.

 

Du talent

Le jeune Élie Arseneau dont le paternel est propriétaire du circuit ICAR, a prouvé son immense talent cet après-midi et ce, à sa première présence sur un tracé véritablement ovale. Au volant de la voiture de son copain Alex Labbé, Arseneau qui s’était fixé comme objectif de franchir la ligne d’arrivée, l’a non seulement atteint. Auteur de la meilleure remontée Arseneau qui avait pris le départ de la 20e position, a terminé septième sur le même tour que les meneurs.

 

Victime d’un bris de moteur lors de la dernière course, le vétéran Claude Leclerc a suivi Arseneau au fil pour être le dernier à compléter les 200 tours de piste.

 

Cette épreuve a été ponctuée de sept drapeaux jaunes.

 

À l’occasion des qualifications, Yannick Tremblay de Chicoutimi, la recrue de 2011, a remporté la première devant Réjean Bissonnette et Élie Arseneau qui par la suite a perdu sa position en vertu d’une voiture trop basse. Éric LeHoux a gagné la médiane aux dépens de Patrick Cliche et Patrick Hamel tandis que lors de la troisième, la victoire est allée à Jean-François Déry de Québec qui a eu le meilleur sur Patrick Laperle et David Michaud.

 

Pour sa part, Donald Theetge a reçu le quadrillé lors de la consolation. Ses victimes ont été Jonathan Desbiens et Gaétan Lauzier.

 

Samedi prochain, il y aura la reprise du Castrol 100 à l’Autodrome St-Eustache.

Laperle Claims First ACT Serie Castrol Win of 2012 at Montmagny

Montmagny, QC – Defending Serie ACT Castrol champion Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC stole the late victory in the Montmagny 200 at Autodrome Montmagny on Sunday, July 1. Laperle had a mirror full of Quebec City’s Jean-Francois Dery and ACT Serie Castrol point leader Donald Theetge when he crossed the finish line to take his first checkered flag of 2012. 

 

Pole-sitter Patrick Boyer snatched the lead early before losing it on lap four to a dominant Patrick Hamel. Hamel held onto the lead until opening day winner Karl Allard surged to the front from eleventh on lap 23.  After a lap 48 caution, Theetge out-dueled Allard on the outside lane and grabbed the point. Theetge looked like the car to beat, dominating the next 79 circuits until a caution on lap 118 that brought nearly all the competitors to pit road.

With a fast pit stop, Dery claimed the lead and looked as though he would vindicate a near-win in the Montmagny season opener, but the seventh and final caution of the race brought Laperle to his outside for a 27 lap battle to the finish. Laperle, who recovered from a mechanical failure early Sunday morning that left him with only half a practice, wheeled the outside lane around Dery and claimed the win by just .855 seconds. The 200 lap race was completed in 1 hour and 20 minutes and 49 seconds with just seven cautions.

St-Annes-des-Plains’ David Michaud came home fourth, and Patrick Hamel rounded out the top five.  Patrick Cliche, Elie Arseneau, Claude Leclerc, and rookies Patrick Boyer and Etienne Cliche rounded out the top ten. Eight cars were left on the lead lap in the 23 car starting field. 

With his win, Laperle earns himself an invite to the Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September, 22. He becomes the seventh different qualifier so far in 2012. He joins Brian Hoar, Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Ben Ashline, Nick Sweet, Karl Allard and Donald Theetge.

The Serie ACT Castrol returns to action this Saturday, July 7 at Autodrome St-Eustache in St-Eustache, QC for a previously rained out 100 lap event. -

Ranger Passes Elliott on Final Lap for Second Road Win in ARCA

(MILLVILLE, N.J.) - On Canada Day, etching his name into ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards history seemed only fitting for Roxton Pond, Quebec's Andrew Ranger.

 

Ranger (No. 53 RRT Design & Construction Dodge) became the first driver in ARCA's 60 years to win two road course races after passing 16-year-old phenom Chase Elliott (No. 9 Aaron's Dream Machine/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet) on the last lap to win at New Jersey Motorsports Park's Thunderbolt Raceway.

 

Ranger, 25, also won on New Jersey's road course last year. His late move past Elliott was reminiscent of his pass over George Miedecke only slightly earlier last year, as the two drove to the white flag. This year, Ranger passed at the other end of New Jersey's main straightway, just as he and Elliott drove into the first turn on Lap 67 of 67.

 

"I'm really happy," said Ranger, who used a second pit stop to his advantage and had to claw back from 12th place just after the race's halfway point. "RRT supported us this weekend and I'm really, really happy to win another race for them. It's a fun team and a fun track. The 53 team and RRT have been awesome this weekend."

 

Chad Hackenbracht (No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet) led the first five laps after winning the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell over Ranger on Saturday afternoon, but gave way to Ranger on Lap 6 and experienced mechanical trouble. He finished just 13 laps and ended the race 26th.

 

The Canadian quickly increased his advantage to 4.238 seconds at Lap 10 and more than twice that four laps later. Alex Bowman (No. 22 St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Dodge) had moved to second on Lap 12 by passing Tom Hessert (No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet), but he trailed Ranger by more than 18 seconds at Lap 24.

 

Matt Lofton (No. 16 Strutmasters.com Chevrolet) spun into a guardrail on Lap 25 to bring out the race's first caution period, and the leaders drove to pit road. Ranger exited first, with Chris Buescher (No. 17 Reliance Tool/David Ragan Ford Ford) and Bowman behind him.

 

Bowman passed Buescher for second right away, and started to trim Ranger's advantage. He passed Ranger on Lap 33, just as another caution flag flew for a stalled car on the track. Buescher spun on the second lap of green flag racing after the track was clear, and it was on that third caution of the race that Ranger made one of the race's decisive moves.

 

Ranger used a second pit stop, closing Lap 39, to give him slightly fresher tires than the other leaders, who pitted to close Lap 26. Ranger came out of the pits 12th to start Lap 42 and worked his way to the top five within seven laps. At that time, though, Elliott passed Bowman for his first lead of the day before giving way to Hessert, a hometown favorite from Cherry Hill, N.J.

 

Elliott passed Hessert back to take the lead on Lap 57, by which time Ranger had moved to third. Ranger moved to second the next lap when Hessert slipped off the course in the second turn, and set his sights on Elliott. To close Lap 59 - with eight to go - Elliott led Ranger by 1.384 second.

 

Ranger nearly halved the gap one lap later, and narrowed it to 0.339 second with six to go. Elliott maintained and even slightly extended the advantage over the next several laps, occasionally kicking dirt out of one of the final turns to obstruct Ranger's vision temporarily.

 

Elliott led by 0.316 second at the white flag, but Ranger caught him at the end of the front straightaway and out-braked Elliott for a pass in the final turn. Elliott slipped off course soon after, and Ranger ran away over the 2.25-mile course to a 4.475-second victory.

 

The runner-up finish was Elliott's second top-five and third top-10 result in just three ARCA Racing Series starts.

 

"I knew we were capable of running this well," Elliott said. "It was just a matter of me figuring it out. The car was great. It was just my lack of experience. The car could have won the race if it had somebody who knew what they were doing, but I'm definitely pleased."

 

Buescher edged Roulo Brothers Racing teammate Brandon Davis for third with a pass on Lap 63, and Will Kimmel (No. 68 Clarksville Schwinn & Cyclery Ford) finished fifth. Points leader Brennan Poole (No. 25 CJ Solar Band Toyota) kept a slight advantage over Buescher by finishing sixth, and Frank Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell/Menards Toyota) was seventh. Mason Mingus (No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota), Hessert, and Milka Duno (No. 94 Milka Way Toyota) filled out the top 10.

The ARCA Racing Series will be off next weekend before traveling to Iowa Speedway for the Prairie Meadows 200 on Friday, July 13. The race will air live on SPEED at 9 p.m. Eastern, with live timing and scoring available at ARCARacing.com. All practice activity and Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell will take place that day, and ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring coverage of those sessions as well. The race will be the seventh for ARCA at the 0.875-mile track.

 

2012 is the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards' 60th Anniversary Season, featuring 20 races at 18 tracks. The complete 2012 event schedule is available at ARCARacing.com.

 

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season. This year, the series visited Alabama's Mobile International Speedway and Minnesota's Elko Speedway for the first time.

 

Founded by John and Mildred Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in three professional touring series and local weekly events.
