WINS THE P.A.S.S. NORTH CHAMPIONSHIP

 

            It was day two of the P.A.S.S. North championship weekend, and a beautiful weather day attracted a full field of cars into the huge Oxford Plains Speedway pit area. Fifty Super Late Models entered the garage area to compete for thirty-six positions in the Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150.

 

            Johnny Clark and Shawn Martin brought the field to green with Clark assuming the point from the get go. Clark held the lead until Scott Mulkern took over the top spot on lap 17 and set a torrid pace until lap 75 when Joey Doiron slipped by Mulkern for the lead. Doiron and Cassius Clark were tied in points heading into the main event, and Doiron was ecstatic as the crowd erupted when he grabbed the top point. Mulkern regained the lead after a caution for a minor spin by Dylan Gosbee on lap 94. Mulkern held off all chargers including Doiron, Cassius Clark and DJ Shaw until the final caution flew on lap 130 as Shawn Martin broke a suspension part and flew over the top of turn three. This caution set up an unbelievable set of circumstances as the top three, Mulkern, Clark, and Doiron were three wide for three consecutive laps before Clark snared the lead. The lead time for Clark was short lived as DJ Shaw raced by, and held the lead to the finish. Mulkern raced home second, followed by Cassius Clark, Travis Benjamin and Doiron. By finishing in the third position, Cassius Clark was crowned the 2013 P.A.S.S. North champion. In victory lane Clark thanked the world, especially his Hight Chevrolet family for their support. Heat checkers flew for Johnny Clark, Mike Rowe, Joey Doiron and Shawn martin. Consolation victories went to Tony Ricci and DJ Shaw, while the "B" feature checkers flew for Mike Landry.

 

            Mark Lundblad Jr. changed a motor in his P.A.S.S. Mod on Saturday morning, and dominated the fifty lap main event on Saturday afternoon. Ron Henry raced home second ahead of Scott Alexander, Evan Armington and Travis Buzzell. Heat victories went to Carey Martin and Lundblad Jr, Scott Alexander was crowned the 2013 P.A.S.S. Modified champion.Due to possible post race infractions, this P.A.S.S. Modified finish is totally unofficial.OFFICIAL FINISH WILL BE POSTED WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE!

 

            Richard Burgess led all 50 laps of the P.A.S.S. Sportsman feature, as he defeated Rusty Poland, Steve Bennett Sr., Joe Pastore Jr. and Billy Childs. Burgess and Poland won their respective qualifiers. Carey Martin was crowned the 2013 P.A.S.S. Sportsman champion, and in victory lane announced that he will be behind the wheel of a P.A.S.S. Modified full time in 2014.

 

            The support division features saw Calvin Rose Jr win the Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Mini Stocks, Kurt Hewins the Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stocks, and Josh Childs won the Ripley and Fletcher Ford Outlaw Sportsman main. Complete finishes are listed below.

Helliwell Wins Second Consecutive ACT Championship by 16 points

Waterbury, VT – Alex Labbe of St. Albert, Quebec won the 39th annual American Canadian Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY on Sunday, September 28, 2013.Labbe became the spoiler in the season-long championship title bout between defending Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH and contender Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH. Polewarczyk took the lead on lap 34 and led the most laps, held off numerous challenges from Labbe until lap 186 when the fourth and final caution of the day flew for a major wreck involving Helliwell, Jonathan Bouvrette, and shuffled many cars, including Polewarczyk.

Labbe led the final 16 laps, while Polewarczyk had to contend with a hard-charging Brian Hoar for 2nd place. Helliwell pitted after the 186 damage, and nursed his car to finish as the last car on the lead lap, finishing ninth (9th), and his pre-race 41-point lead ended up unofficially at 16 points securing his second ACT Championship.

Brian Hoar finished 3rd, 3-time Airborne Champion Brent Dragon finished 4th, and Steuben, Maine's Rowland Robinson, Jr. had a career-best finish, rounding out the top 5.

ACT competitors will next return for the 51st running of the People's United Bank Milk Bowl which will take place next weekend, October 5th and 6th, 2013 at the home track of the American Canadian Tour, Thunder Road International Speedbowl, in Barre, VT.

ALEX LABBÉ REMPORTE LE FALL FOLIAGE 200

Alex Labbé de St-Albert a ajouté un autre fleuron à son palmarès alors qu'il a remporté, cet après-midi, le Fall Foliage 200 disputé à la piste Airborne Speedway de Plattsburgh. Il s'agit d'un premier succès pour Labbé dans le championnat américain ACT-US aux États-Unis. Ses victimes ont été Joey Pole et Brian Hoar alors qu'avec une neuvième place, Wayne Helliwell a conservé son championnat pour une deuxième année consécutive.

C'est une journée parfaite pour Labbé puisqu'il l'avait emporté lors de la première préliminaire, épreuve à laquelle Jonathan Bouvrette de Blainville n'a pu participer en raison d'un problème avec le joint à rotule (ball joint) à la roue avant gauche. Il a du avoir recours à la deuxième consi pour se tailler une place dans ce Fall Foliage 200. Auparavant, lors de la deuxième séance, Labbé avait enregistré le meilleur chrono, soit 16,882 secondes.

Neuvième sur la grille de départ, Labbé a utilisé la prudence pour son ascension vers le sommet. Dès le 30e passage, il était rendu en sixième position pour ensuite se retrouver troisième alors que Joey Pole était le meneur au 47e et au 55e, il était dans le sillon de Pole. Cependant, ce n'est qu'au 180e passage que Labbé a été en mesure de prendre la mesure de Joey Pole pour filer vers sa première victoire en sol américain.

Accident pour Bouvrette

Tel que mentionné précédemment, la journée de Jonathan Bouvrette a mal commencé après les essais libres. Lors de la deuxième consi, parti de la huitième place, il a remonté en quatrième pour une 20e position sur la grille de départ. Tout semblait s'être calmé et il commença sa remontée. Au 84e, il était en 7e, puis au 144e, il se retrouvait en 5e.

Alors qu'il suivait Wayne Helliwell Jr et qu'il mettait de la pression sur ce dernier, Helliwell a glissé et Bouvrette n'a pu l'éviter. Cela aurait pu avoir des conséquences graves pour Helliwell qui aurait pu perdre son championnat à cet instant. Heureusement, qu'il avait un peu d'avance et qu'il a pu franchir la ligne d'arrivée en neuvième position.

Pour Bouvrette ce fut une fin abrupte et il a été classé 25e. Deux autres Québécois étaient sur les lieux soit Stéphane Descoste et Claude Leclerc. Ils ont terminé respectivement 19eet 26e accusant du retard sur les meneurs.

Le week-end prochain la saison de l'ACT prendra fin avec la présentation de la 51e édition du Milk Bowl. Les nouveaux pneus American Racers seront de rigueur.

American Racer Tire Debuts at 2013 Milk Bowl

            Waterbury, VT – One of the country’s most unique events, billed as the ‘toughest short track race in America’, Thunder Road’s Milk Bowl just got tougher. The American Canadian Tour recently announced that they will be making a tire change for the first time in nearly a decade. The American Racer tire will become the tire of choice beginning in 2014 for the large network of weekly tracks and the two popular touring series sanctioned by ACT. The season-ending 51st Milk Bowl will unveil the new product for use in the Fall classic the weekend of October 4-6, 2013.

“We have spent the entire summer developing and testing a tire to serve our needs for future years. American Racer has done an outstanding job of getting us exactly what we asked for to replace our current brand of Late Model tires. We have full confidence that the teams will be enthusiastic about the new tire that was developed and ‘rolling’ it out at Thunder Road’s most historic event should let everyone know how confident we are about this product”, said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour and Promoter of Thunder Road International Speedbowl.

When the ACT learned that the present tire in use was not going to be available to their various tracks throughout New England, Eastern New York, Quebec and Ontario, they contacted American Racer, the company that ACT previously had a long relationship with, to fill the void.

The newly appointed Director of Racing at American Racer, Scott Junod said, “We told Tom that we would do whatever was necessary to get the kind of product his group of tracks needed to continue what has arguably been one of the most successful independent sanctioning bodies for over two decades. We see this as a win-win for both our companies and are looking forward to working with all the ACT competitors to make sure they are 100% satisfied. Having seen a good number of Milk Bowl races at Thunder Road, all of us at American Racer are anxious to be part of the 2013 edition”.

The primary test team throughout the summer was two-time Thunder Road Track Champion, Nick Sweet. Sweet is a local Barre, VT racer who grew up at Thunder Road, first as a fan, and after competing in the two other divisions has become one of the most respected drivers not only at Thunder Road but throughout New England. Sweet said, “This was a really neat experience for our team. Going through the process of first frustration, then thinking we were on target, only to be disappointed in the longevity of one of the test sessions, to the final product was really a neat thing to be part of. I think the ACT Late Model Teams are really going to like this tire. It is going to be a fun Milk Bowl weekend.

Sweet, who has won nearly every major Late Model event held at Thunder Road, says the Milk Bowl has eluded him over the years. When he was asked if all that testing of the new tire might give him an edge going into the Milk Bowl this year, Sweet said, “Well, I would like to think so, but the hype about it being the ‘toughest short track race in America’ is really true. You need a lot more luck than anything else to win a Milk Bowl, but maybe this year my luck will come from having done all that testing”!

The Booth Brothers/ Hood qualifying begins on Saturday, October 5th, with once-a-year time trials and then triple 50-lap qualifying features. Then the Milk Bowl, presented by the Peoples United Bank, will take place on Sunday, October 6. Post time is 1:00 and Adult tickets are just $25. Kids are free both days and a two-day adult ticket is only $30.

Guenette Garners NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie Honors

Edges Seibert By One Point In Season Long Battle

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 26, 2013) – After a back-and-forth battle throughout the season, Alex Guenette has earned the 2013 rookie of the year award for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 by just one point over Ryley Seibert.

 

Guenette, the 17-year-old from Terrebonne, Quebec, was the top-finishing rookie on five occasions this season while piloting the No. 39 Motos Illimitées/DLGL/Polaris Dodge for Dave Jacombs Racing. For the season, Guenette finished 10th in the final series point standings and recorded two top-five and five top-10 finishes including a season-best finish of second on July 27 at Autodrome St. Eustache (Quebec).

 

The accomplished karting competitor, who had limited stock car experience, came into the season as a complete newcomer to the Canadian Tire Series

 

"I wasn't at all familiar with the tracks or the cars, so we had to learn a lot very quickly," he said. "The adjustments weren't difficult, but every race was something new to me."

 

Assisting with the sometimes steep learning curve was veteran car owner Dave Jacombs, who helped transition another young Quebec driver, Andrew Ranger, into to stock-car competition in 2007. Ranger and Jacombs won two series titles in four full seasons together.

 

"We're proud of what we accomplished this year and I congratulate Ryley on a great season, as well," Guenette said. "This is a great honor and I hope to do bigger things next year."

 

Seibert, from Williams Lake, B.C., finished 11th overall with three top 10s and also was the top rookie five times.

 

Rookie of the year standings are determined by a driver's finishing position versus other rookies in the race. The top-finishing rookie in a race receives 10 points, second receives nine and so forth. The rookie of the year honor goes to the driver with the most rookie points on the year.

 

Past winners of this award include Jason White (2008), Joey Hanssen (2009), Derek White (2010), Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (2011) and Martin Roy a season ago.

 

The official presentation of the 2013 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 Rookie of the Year Award will take place at the NASCAR Touring Series Awards on Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Crown Ballroom of the Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center at the NASCAR Hall of Fame along with the top rookie drivers from NASCAR's other touring series.

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour rolls into Airborne Speedway this Saturday, September 28 for the Fall Foliage 200 season finale. The 2013 ACT Championship battle has been narrowed down to three contenders. Defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. leads the way over Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. and Jimmy Hebert, who are both eager to take home their first championship title.

Helliwell and his E-Keys 4 Cars Ford claimed the 2012 ACT Championship with a win in the Fall Foliage 200 last season. This year he has to fend off Hudson, NH's Polewarczyk, who claimed the biggest win of 2013 in the ACT International 500 at Airborne back in July. Breakout star, Hebert is also in the mix with two ACT wins of his own already this year.

All three drivers are coming off solid performances in the Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last Saturday (September 21). Helliwell came home second after contending for the win with eventual winner Eddie MacDonald and Brian Hoar. Polewarczyk drove his Pole's Automotive Ford from 22nd to finish fifth, while Hebert earned 15th.

The Fall Foliage event has a steep tradition with the American Canadian Tour. It began as part of the NASCAR North in 1972 when Catamount Stadium in Milton, VT was the host. After Catamount closed in 1987 it was held at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME. The event was moved to its current home of Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY in 1991. Its past winners include many New England stock car racing legends. Bobby Dragon won the inaugural event in 1972. Robbie Crouch has won the Fall Foliage a total of seven times. Other notable winners include Butch Lindley, Stub Fadden, Dick McCabe, Jean-Paul Cabana, Dave Dion and Junior Hanley.

All the stars of the American Canadian Tour will be on hand for the season finale Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway this Saturday, September 28. Post time is set for1:30pm. The ACT Late Models will be joined by the Airborne Sportsmen Modifieds and Renegades.
