Double features produce excitement on Peru Federal Credit Union/Econo Lodge Night

PLATTSBURGH, NY – Double features produced double excitement at Plattsburgh, NY's Airborne Park Speedway on Saturday, June 20, with plenty of hometown representation in victory lane for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere. The Modified, Renegade, and Mini-Modified divisions each ran a pair of feature races presented by Peru Federal Credit Union and Econo Lodge.

Plattsburgh's Jayson Criss copped the second J&S Steel Modified win of his career in the opening 30-lap race. Criss, who has endured a roller coaster start to his season, was aided by a pair of restarts in the late stages of the race, and was able to steal the lead from Mike Wells at lap 21. From there, he was forced to hold off a charging Nick Heywood in the final laps for the victory. Wells finished third, followed by top rookie Danny Sullivan and Bucko Branham.

In the second Modified feature, Branham stole the show by coming from 12^th starting position to take his first Airborne win of the year. Codie Aubin rebounded from a tough outing in the first race to finish second; he led the first 10 laps, then traded the lead twice more with Branham. Rookie Jim "Timex" Morgan earned his first podium finish in third place, with Heywood fourth for a 1-2-3-4 sweep for Plattsburgh drivers. Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY was fifth.

The Key R-D Trailer Sales Renegade division saw sophomore hometown racer Zack Daniels take his second career win in the opening 20-lap event. Daniels was out front the entire distance and scored the victory over Shawn Duquette of Morrisonville, NY and Robert Gordon of Milton, VT. Jim McKiernan and Dylan Rabtoy completed the top five finishers.

In the Renegade nightcap, Josh Terry of Essex, NY became the division's first two-time winner after a drive from ninth starting position. Terry had a front-row seat for some crazy action on lap 16 as leaders Gordon and Richie Turner made contact that sent Gordon spinning. On the following restart, new leaders McKiernan and Duquette made contact that put McKiernan into the wall. Terry inherited the top spot and motored to the win, followed by Jason McClatchie and Keith O'Neil. Tylor Terry, the winner's brother, finished fourth in a car borrowed from Andrew Bordeau, and Daniels completed a solid night in fifth place.

Chris LaVair of Gabriels, NY won his second Busch Beer Mini-Modified feature in a row in that division's first 20-lap race, coming from 13^th starting position. Dale O'Neil and Kris Clark completed the podium, followed by Eddie Bresette and Pete Blaney.

The technical inspection line decided the outcome of the second race, as Tyler Irwin of Peru, NY found himself taking the winner's trophy home. LaVair was the runner-up, ahead of Tim LaFountain, Robert Foley, and Harold LaVair. Clark, the original winner, and Bresette, who crossed the finish line third, were each found to have unapproved ignition parts and were disqualified from their finishes.

The Competition Kart Series ran an exhibition event for the unrestricted Open Heavyweight class, and Nathan Sartwell-Cornell of Sheldon, VT took the victory over Brian Fagan, Brian Kentile, and Mark Aloi. An enthusiastic group of youngsters from Airborne's UFirst Federal Credit Union Kids Club also took part in bicycle races on the frontstretch.

Airborne Park Speedway is back in action on Saturday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. for Riley Ford Night presented by Whelen Engineering. The Modified division will again run twin 30-lap features, along with racing for the Renegade, Mini-Modified, and Enduro divisions. General admission will be $12 for adults with a special buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer on race night. Kids age 12 and under will be admitted free as always. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m., with the first green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Montréal, 21 juin 2015 - S'élançant de la quatrième position lors de la troisième épreuve de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire disputée samedi soir à la piste Sunset Speedway en Ontario, Alex Tagliani a disputé une course d'anthologie en réussissant à prendre un tour à tous ces adversaires.

Le résidant de Lachenaie est devenu le premier pilote de l'histoire de la série Canadian Tire à devancer tous ses adversaires par un tour lorsque sa Chevrolet No 18 EpiPen/CGI /CanTorque est passée sous le drapeau à damier à l'issue de l'épreuve du Leland Industries 300. Tag a été dominant après avoir pris le commandement de la course au 108e tour.

La course de 300 tours sur l'ovale d'un tiers de mille s'est déroulée à un rythme d'enfer. Le premier drapeau jaune est intervenu au 21e tour et le second au 287e. Au cours de cette période, TAG a pris un tour complet à ses 19 adversaires.

« Il y a longtemps que je n'ai pas éprouvé un tel sentiment sur une piste de course, a déclaré Alex lors d'une courte entrevue téléphonique. Ma Chevrolet EpiPen/CGI/Riobel/CanTorque était tout simplement parfaite ce soir. »

Cette victoire est la seconde de Tagliani en 27 départs dans cette série, la première remontant au 26 juillet 2009 sur le circuit routier du Edmonton City Centre Airport. Les amateurs pourront revivre le déroulement de cette course sur le réseau RDS2 le 25 juillet à 14 heures. La prochaine étape aura lieu le 5 juillet sur le circuit ICAR à Mirabel au Québec.

C'est ce samedi 20 juin que ce tenait le programme tant attendu réunissant la série PASS et la vedette Nascar Denny Hamlin pour le Habitation Dany Lagacé 150.

Pour l'occasion, c'est 21 voitures PASS, 26 Sportsman Québec et plus d'une quarantaine de voitures des classes locales Sports Compact Amateur et Élite qui se sont présentées.

Denny Hamlin réjouit la foule

Au grand bonheur des spectateurs venu le voir, le #11 Denny Hamlin roulant aux couleurs de FEDEX a su se rendre accessible à la foule venue lui rendre visite. Un pilote fort sympathique qui a donné de son temps pour signer des autographes et discuter avec ses fans. Terminant en 7^e position après une course ponctuée de drapeaux jaunes, le pilote a démontré ses talents de pilotage et ce avec une voiture jamais conduite et sur une piste jamais visitée.

Laperle revient en force

Le #91 Patrick Laperle avait plusieurs supporteurs dans les estrades et il ne les a pas déçus. Grandement dominant du début à la fin il a mené la majorité des tours ayant comme seule réelle menace à son podium le #17 Travis Benjamin qui a réussi à prendre la pole pour quelques tours seulement. Il remporte donc cette épreuve ajoutant une superbe victoire à son palmarès.

Le champion de la triple couronne PASS North de 2013, le #77 Cassius Clark a su rester dans les meneurs, et ce tout au long du programme lui donnant ainsi accès à la deuxième position du programme.

Le #60 DJ Shaw, qui a terminé en 3^e position, a à nouveau démontré tout son talent sur l'oval de Vallée-Jonction. Lui qui a remporté l'an dernier la triple couronne PASS.

Performances à souligner

Le jeune pilote de la voiture #71 Raphaël Lessard a une fois de plus soulever les estrades de l'Autodrome Chaudière hier en démontrant ses talents exceptionnels de pilotage. Ne se laissant pas intimider par les autres pilotes sur la piste. Menant de chaudes luttes entres autres avec le #11 Denny Hamlin, Lessard a su garder son focus sur sa course accédant pour une 2^e fois à Vallée-Jonction à la 6^e position. Une autre performance à souligner est celle du #27QC Alexandre Gingras qui s'est battu pour son top10 tout au long de la course. Terminant en 10^e position, il est le seul québécois avec Raphaël Lessard à faire partie de ce top10.

Qu'en est-il des autres classes présentes

Pour ce programme nous avions droit à deux finales de la série Mini Sportsman Québec. Ponctué par un solide accrochage lors de la première finale nos jeunes pilotes âgés de 7 à 14 ans ont su épater la foule par le spectacle offert. En classe Élite, le podium se compose du #38 Mathieu Goulet, le #14 Ariane Lacharité et son jeune frère le #21 Antoine Lacharité. En développement, pour une deuxième épreuve, la recrue #8 Victoria Bélanger accède à la victoire au combiné suivi du #81 Jérémie Bergeron qui en était à sa première épreuve. C'est le #7 Wylliam Perron qui complète ce podium.

En Sportsman Québec, le #7 Réjean Blanchet qui avait manqué de peu son podium lors de la première course a accédé à la victoire lors d'une relance de 2 tours à la toute fin du programme. Dans la classe Sports Compact Amateur Oricom, la #71 Ann-Marie Lessard commanditée par la Ferme Bercy a dominé la finale de main de maitre avec une voiture rapide en piste et par sa conduite sans erreur. Pour un deuxième programme consécutif, elle accède au podium, mais cette fois sur la plus haute marche. Se joint à elle en 2^e position le #04 Stéphan Leclerc commandité par Garage GL Ange Gardien suivi du #116 Kharl Landry commandité par ID Graf.

Pour ce qui est de la classe Sport Compact Élite Oricom, il nous devra attendre quelques jours pour connaître les résultats officiels puisqu'il y a eu saisie de pièce lors des inspections techniques.

The Final Fling of Spring Thrills Fans at Peterborough Speedway

With a new season set to debut the very next day, a strong group of Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and INEX Ontario Legend race teams gave the old one a rousing send-off – Saturday, June 20^th – at Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

Feature race action for the night got underway with a 20 lapper for the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun teams, as Tiffany Vanderbelt and Brandon Feeney paced the pack to the Great Canadian RV green flag. Before the first lap had been completed, Ryan Oosterholt moved into the top spot and wasn't challenged for the duration of the event. Even a yellow flag for a lap 13 incident between Cody Fenton and Criss Tuck couldn't slow the charge to his second win of the year. Jeremy Kelly, Sean Kennedy, Ray Schroer and Doug Wills chased the driver of the #79 across the stripe.

Bailey Jacobs and Rob Richards brought the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car drivers from the staging area for their 'A' main, with 20 laps to settle the issue. Early contact between Fedele DiBello and Dan Archibald slowed the pace and by the time there were 4 laps complete, veteran Steve Mayhew was in charge of the field. He was challenged high and low by Archibald and Anthony DiBello with 9 down and DiBello took the spot with 14 circuits on the board and held on for his 3^rd feature win of the year. Archibald, Mayhew, Jacobs and Richards completed the top 5.

With Mark Gordon and Jack Horner leading the way, the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model runners took to the track for their 25 lap shootout. Coming to the stripe to log the first lap, Dave Morgan and Cole McFadden made contact. After a quick pit stop, Morgan continued while McFadden's ride was through for the night. Former OSCAAR Super Late Model runner Al Shepstone took the lead with 3-wide pass on the backstretch and would never give up the spot. Tyler Betts, Gordon, Morgan and Horner chased the winner to the line.

Action wrapped-up for the night with 25 laps of INEX Ontario Legends Series excitement. Cole Ledson and Kevin Foisy brought the field to the green flag. Even though it took 3 attempts to get the race underway, the Legends put a strong show on the track. A late race yellow put Foisy and Nicholas Ledson on the front row with 19 laps complete. Heading through the first and second turns, the pair made contact. Both cars were to be sent to the back of the field, but Ledson was unable to continue. After a 6 lap shootout, Brian Saunders picked-up his second win of the year. Cole Ledson was second, with Jacob Sheridan 3^rd. Foisy rebounded to finish 4^th, just ahead of Jamie Riberdy.

Sean Kennedy, Ryan Oosterholt, Ray Schroer and Keith Parkes took the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun heat races. Both of the night's Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car qualifiers were won by Dan Archibald. Dave Morgan with a pair, Tyler Betts and Mark Gordon shared the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model preliminary rounds, while INEX Ontario Legend heat races went to Brian Saunders, with a pair, Nicholas Ledson and Kevin Foisy.

Bullring bullet points: Dan Archibald make his second Peterborough Speedway start of the year in the Thunder Car ranks. Bradley Robinson took his first career green flag in the same division. Doug Wills took a turn behind the wheel of the #64 4Fun machine, filling-in for Gary Fallis…After winning the event last week, Matthew VanDerBelt was the first car to retire from this week's 4Fun division feature…Kyle Donaldson took a turn at the controls of Howie Crowe's #28 Thunder Car…In a special Father's Day draw, Ronald Sayeau won a Peterborough Speedway fan package, including a race night in one of the track's tower suites.

Peterborough Speedway takes Saturday, June 27^th off, but will host the annual Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifying Event Sunday, June 28^th. The Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model teams will compete in extra distance feature events that will determine the front row starting spots for the 23^rd Annual Autumn Colours Classic. Pit gates will open at 11:00, with spectator grandstand access at 1:00 and the afternoon's first green flag at 2:30.

STECKLY FINISHES FOURTH AT INAUGURAL NASCAR EVENT AT SUNSET SPEEDWAY

Sunday June 21, 2015, Innisfil, ON: Scott Steckly driver of the Canadian Tire Dodge enjoyed the inaugural NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 event at Sunset Speedway and brought home a top finish to round out the experience.

The 22 Racing entry of Steckly was very quick right from the start as they posted times at the top of the charts during practice. "We tested here a couple of weeks ago," said Steckly after practice. "We tried a bunch of different things and we are confident we will get the set up right for qualifying and the race."

Steckly would miss just by a fraction during qualifying and notched at time quick enough for second, lining him up on the outside of the front row for the start of the Leland 300 presented by Johnsonville.

At the drop of the green flag, Steckly with the preferred outside line was able to pass pole sitter Gary Klutt and he would lead the field for the first 60 laps. Lap 21 until lap 287 of the 300 lap event would go green and Steckly was struggling with a slow leaking tire. When the caution flew on lap 287 he was able to duck into the pits to get the problem rectified but with only a handful of laps left in the race there was no time to make up any additional positions. "That was quite a race tonight," said Steckly. "I don't' recall ever going 267 laps without a caution anywhere never mind at a track NASCAR has not raced on before. We had a great car at the start and we just needed a couple of minor adjustments to get back up to the front but with no caution to make pit stops we were stuck with what we had. Fourth is a good finish and a good points day for us so we are happy."

Steckly finds himself third in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 point standings heading into event #4 at Circuit ICAR on July 4/5 in Mirabel Quebec.

The Leland 300 presented by Johnsonville will air on TSN on Sunday June 28^th at 1 p.m. EST and on RDS Friday July 10^th at 10 pm.

INEX Ontario Legends Series Scores a Peterborough Speedway Hat Trick

Close to 20 teams signed-in to battle Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval – Saturday, June 20^th – as the INEX Ontario Legends Series paid their 3^rd visit of the season at Peterborough Speedway.

With Cole Ledson and Kevin Foisy at the front of the field, a 25 lap main event closed-out the night of action on Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval. The first attempt at the green flag lasted less than a lap, when several cars came together on the exit of the second turn. Without an 'official' lap in the books, all drivers got their original starting positions back for a complete restart.

The second try wasn't any more successful, as the pack was sent scrambling when the machine of Willy Howells caught fire on the front stretch. While the driver was unhurt, several cars needed to head pit-side to have their front or rear bumpers checked and the starting grid was re-racked for a 3^rd shot.

The saying 'the 3^rd time is a charm' proved prophetic, with some exciting racing throughout the field. Defending series champion Nicholas Ledson was in control, with Foisy chasing his rear bumper. When the lead duo caught the backmarkers after about 10 laps, Foisy was searching high and low for a way around the #15N, but to no avail. With 19 laps complete, Brian Saunders made contact with Jamie MacArthur and brought out the yellow flag.

Only 6 laps remained in the fray and the crowd was ready for a late race showdown between Ledson and Foisy. As the leaders came through the first and second turns, the pair touched and another caution flag waved. Officials deemed both machines to be 'involved' cars, sending each to the rear. While Foisy took his position, Ledson was finished for the night and cradled off the track.

In the closing stages, Brian Saunders held-off a late charge from Cole Ledson for his second Peterborough Speedway win of the season. Jacob Sheridan, Foisy and Jamie Riberdy rounded-out the top 5. Terry McClelland, Dave Riopielle, Cole McFadden, Bill Mason, Mike Gettliffe, Parker Traves, Jamie MacArthur, Rob Black, Nick Ledson, Don Arnott, Willy Howells and Mark Griffin completed the Legends Series feature event finishing order.

Defending series champion Nicholas Ledson, Brian Saunders with a pair and Kevin Foisy shared the Ontario Legends qualifying events.

INEX Ontario Legends Series notes: Mike Gettliffe, Jacob Sheridan and Dave Riopielle each made their first starts of the 2015 season.

N. Woodstock, NH – Wayne Helliwell Jr. showed that it's best to be lucky and good on Saturday night, winning the White Mountain 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park.

The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) point leader was running third when Brandon Atkins and Eddie MacDonald tangled racing for the lead on lap 115 of the 150-lap event. Dover, NH's Helliwell inherited the lead and then pulled away from rival Joey Polewarczyk Jr. for his third win of the season and 10^th of his ACT career.

"This is one of the toughest races we've had on the Tour in a long time," Helliwell said. "We made some big wholesale changes to the car in practice and learned some stuff in the heat race, which transferred over to the feature. But at the beginning of the race, I thought all the changes we made were the wrong ones, because the car just went backwards...as the race unfolded, it kind of came to us. And then we lucked out on some things and were in the right spot at the right time."

Mike Ziter started on the pole and dominated the early stages of the event, ultimately leading a race-high 96 laps. AuSable Forks, NY's Atkins began to pressure Ziter as they passed the halfway point, finally getting the chance to pull alongside him after a four-car crash involving Corey Mason, Tyler Cahoon, Glenn Martel, and Todd Davis on lap 94. Atkins edged ahead for two laps on the restart, then regained the lead after a lap-98 restart when Mason spun again.

Atkins held serve through a trio of cautions that saw contenders Travis Stearns and Quinny Welch go around in separate incidents. The carnage also allowed Helliwell and MacDonald to enter the fray. MacDonald got underneath Helliwell for second on lap 109 and immediately went to work on Atkins.

After battling for six laps, the two made contact entering turn two, sending Atkins spinning to the infield to bring out the seventh and final caution. MacDonald was sent to the rear for his involvement, while Atkins was parked for the night after retaliating during the caution period.

Helliwell suddenly found himself in front, but had championship foe Polewarczyk at his door for the final sprint to the finish. Though Polewarczyk tried to keep pace, Helliwell expertly negotiated lapped traffic in the final circuits to take the win.

Stearns recovered from his spin to finish third, with Ziter a career-best fourth. Oren Remick, Jeff White, Travis Fadden, Nick Sweet, Quinny Welch, and Kyle Welch rounded out the top-10.

Helliwell, Polewarczyk, and the rest of the ACT Tour take their championship battle back to Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME next Saturday, June 27 for the Oxford Plains 150. Post time is 6:00pm.

Lapped The Field In Sunset's Inaugural Canadian Tire Series Event

INNISFIL, Ont. (June 20, 2015) – Alex Tagliani has had a winning car more than once since his return to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 in 2014, but couldn't close the deal. He left no doubt Saturday at Sunset Speedway.

Tagliani became the first driver in series history to have the entire field lapped at the finish as he captured the checkered flag in the inaugural Leland Industries 300 presented by Johnsonville in dominant fashion behind the wheel of his No. 18 EpiPen/CGI/CanTourque Chevrolet.

It was the second career series victory for Tagliani, who last won on July 26, 2008 at Edmonton City Centre Airport. This was just the 27th Canadian Tire Series start for the native of Lachenaie, Quebec.

Jason Hathaway, last week's winner at Autodrome Chaudiere, finished a lap down in second with rookie Cayden Lapcevich in third. Scott Steckly was two laps down in fourth with J.F. Dumoulin fifth.

Polesitter Gary Klutt, Alex Labbe, Marc-Antoine Camirand, Noel Dowler and L.P. Dumoulin brought home the top 10.

The race was green flag Lap 21 to Lap 287, which led to the field easily getting strung out on the .333-mile oval. Even though Hathaway received the free pass under the last caution, he had no shot to challenge Tagliani with just a few laps left in the race as he would have had to restart at the tail end, so he elected to pit for fuel along with everyone else and protect his position. Thus, even with the late-race caution, Tagliani's victory was essentially a foregone conclusion.

The Leland Industries 300 presented by Johnsonville will premiere on TSN on June 28 at 1 p.m. ET and on RDS2 on July 25 at 2 p.m.

The Canadian Tire Series will return to the track on July 5 for the Ecko Unlimited 100 at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec.
