·        Western Swing To Commence With Alberta Has Energy 300

·        Thiering In Familiar Territory

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 7, 2015) – Jostens Rookie of the Year candidate Erica Thiering will put her home track advantage to work Saturday in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1's Alberta Has Energy 300 at Edmonton International Raceway.

 

Thiering, from nearby Sherwood Park, began her racing career at the Alberta quarter-mile, and continues to race late models there on a weekly basis. And she doesn't just race there, she wins. The 25-year-old has captured six NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track championships at Edmonton since 2008, including the last four in a row.

 

Thiering's connection to the track extends beyond just the competition as her family owns and operates the facility. She's actually one of three Canadian Tire Series competitors with family ties to a host tracks on the schedule along with part-time participants Elie Arseneau (Circuit ICAR) and Donald Chisholm (Riverside International Speedway).

 

Home cooking could be just the recipe Thiering needs as she's still looking for her first top-10 finish this year after recording two in five appearances in 2014. She finished 11th in last year's Alberta Has Energy 300.

 

Thiering enters Saturday's event ranked third in Jostens Rookie of the Year points and 13th in the overall championship standings.

Fast Facts

The Race:  The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 is set to visit Edmonton International Raceway for the second year in a row. The Alberta Has Energy 300 will be the fifth of 11 events on the 2015 season schedule.

 

The Procedure:  The maximum starting field is 24 cars, including provisionals. The first 21 cars will have secured starting positions through two-lap time trials while the remaining three spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race is scheduled for 300 laps (75 miles) and will have a five-minute midway break at or near the conclusion of Lap 150.

 

The Track:  Edmonton is the second facility to play host to the Canadian Tire Series in the province of Alberta along with Edmonton City Centre Airport (2007-12). The track was first paved in 1994 and received a new coat of asphalt and other improvements just prior last year's inaugural series event. Edmonton, under the ownership of Ron and Loretta Thiering for nearly 20 years, has been a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series member track since 2005.

 

The Winners:  Andrew Ranger won 2014's inaugural event.

 

The Polesitters:  Alex Tagliani became the series' first Edmonton polesitter when he turned a fast lap of 12.514 seconds (71.919 mph) a year ago.

 

Alberta Has Energy 300 Notes

Hathaway Goes West With the Lead: Jason Hathaway's Ed Hakonson Racing team once considered not going on the western swing, but with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 championship lead, the No. 3 Chevrolet is heading to Alberta. Hathaway, who hasn't missed a race in series history, moved into the points lead for the first time in his career with a win at Autodrome Chaudiere on June 13 and has held it through two subsequent events. He will take a one-point advantage (159-158) on Gary Klutt to Edmonton International Raceway, where he finished third a year ago.

 

Tagliani Looks to Stay Hot: Last year's Edmonton polesitter Alex Tagliani lapped the field en route victory at Sunset Speedway on June 20 and followed that with a pole and podium finish last week at Circuit ICAR. This time around Tagliani will look to finish what he started at the Alberta bullring, where he led a race- and career-high 268 laps but ended up in two late-race incidents and finished 13th. Tagliani's history of success in Alberta also includes his first Canadian Tire Series win in 2008 at Edmonton City Centre Airport.

 

Steady Performances Paying Off for Defending Champ:  Reigning Canadian Tire Series titlist L.P. Dumoulin has yet to register a podium finish in 2015, but he's now up to a season-best fourth place in the standings. Dumoulin is one of just two drivers with top-10 finishes in each of the season's first four races, and he heads to Edmonton just 12 points behind championship leader Hathaway. Dumoulin won the second stop on the western swing last year at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.

 

First Appearances:  The Alberta Has Energy 300 will be the first Canadian Tire Series appearance of the season for Alberta natives Adam Dowler (Sherwood Park), Shania LaForce (Athabasca), Jamie Krzysik (Grande Prairie) and James Van Domselaar (Fort Saskatchewan). It will actually mark the Canadian Tire Series debut for Dowler, younger brother of series regular Noel Dowler. Manitoba's Nick Jewell (Fort Frances) and Saskatchewan's Jason Hankewich (Kindersley) are also slated to make their first start of the year.

WEST HAVEN, VT – Veteran stock car driver Tim LaDuc of Orwell, VT made a triumphant return to victory lane on Sunday, July 5, winning the WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey Independence Day Special at The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway.  LaDuc ended a five-year victory drought and carried the checkered flag in the 50-lap Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli  Sportsman Modified race after a race-long fight with Josh Sunn.  Other winners on the night included Chris Donnelly, Dan Douville, Curtis Condon, and Jesse Durkee.

Sunn, of White River Junction, VT, led the opening 10 laps before "The Orwell Express" LaDuc made his presence known.  The pair swapped the lead five times over the final 40 circuits in a thrilling see-saw battle, and LaDuc made his winning move with a gritty outside lane pass with just five laps remaining.  The top two pulled into victory lane showered by cheers in appreciation of their effort.  The win was the first for LaDuc since an asphalt victory at Devil's Bowl in August 2010, and his first dirt score since May 2009.

Vince Quenneville Jr. of Brandon, VT wrapped up a solid Independence Day weekend with a third-place finish; Quenneville won the Coca-Cola Firecracker 44 on the half-mile asphalt oval at Devil's Bowl on Friday night.  Jackie Brown Jr. of Hurley, NY finished fourth, and Jack Gentile of Cohoes, NY was fifth.  The top 10 was completed by Tim Hodge, Robbie LaCroix, Chris Murray, Todd Buckwold, and Billy Lussier.

Chris Donnelly won a rough 30-lap main event for the Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) tour. Troy Comeau opened up a big lead early while Piermont, NH native Donnelly whipped past traffic on the outside lane from 12th starting position.

A red flag for a scary accident involving Rick Martel brought Donnelly to Comeau's tail for the race's first restart.  Donnelly moved into the lead on lap 13 and held it through two more restarts – including a second red flag when Toby Tatro's car flipped – and cruised to the win.  Neither Martel nor Tatro was seriously injured.

Will Hull of Plainfield, VT finished second, followed by Dan Douville, Kevin Chaffee, and Scott Holcomb.  Douville, of Bristol, NH, was crowned the SCoNE Triple Crown champion with the best point total in a three-night, three-track weekend after events at Legion Speedway in Rumney, NH on Friday and Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT on Saturday.

Curtis Condon of Queensbury, NY picked up the first win of his career in the 20-lap Renegade division race.  Condon outlasted several spirited challenges from asphalt specialist Richie Turner, who finished second.  Darrell Older was third.

The Portland Glass Mini Stocks had the most peculiar event of the evening, and Jesse Durkee of South Royalton, VT was declared the winner when he was the only driver left running in the event.  A rough track surface combined with some full-contact maneuvers eliminated competitors at a rate of nearly one car per lap, including Justin Bishop after a flip on the opening circuit.  Durkee was one of only three drivers left on the track when he took the lead on lap 14 of the scheduled 20-lap distance, just before the cars of Brian Bishop and Robert Garney dropped out of the race with flat tires.  Garney was awarded the runner-up position, and Brian Bishop was third.  Jason Porter and Mike Lique were officially fourth and fifth, each two laps down.

Devil's Bowl Speedway returns to action on Friday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. on the asphalt half-mile with the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.   The Rutland Herald presents the annual double-points Mid-Season Championships, driver autographs, and a hot rod show for the RAVE Classic Car Club.  General admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for children age 12 and under.

RAPHAËL LESSARD: DU CÔTÉ DE NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY

Résumé du programme du 5 juillet

C'est ce dimanche, 5 juillet alors que notre pilote fêtait ses 14 ans que s'est déroulé le 9e programme de la saison à New Hampshire Motor Speedway  à Loudon NH.

La veille l'équipe a participé à la séance de pratiques qui s'y tenaient et de tours en tours Raphaël prenait de l'aisance et améliorait ses temps.

Après avoir fait quelques ajustements de dernières minutes sur la voiture, tous étaient prêts pour la séance de qualification. Partie en 5e position, c'est au 6e rang que la voiture #71 a terminé.  Visiblement désavantagé par le moteur « stock », Raphaël a fait une excellente performance pour garder le rythme.

C'est donc en 21e position sur 26 voitures présentent que c'est élancé sur le tracé de 1.6 milles. Une course de 60 tours qui n'a pas été de tout repos. Évitant à quelques reprises des accidents, au tour 19 alors qu'il était en 14e position, Raphaël a été projeté dans le mur par un autre participant ce qui a brisé la table de conduite. Il s'est donc vu contraint à l'abandon.

La voiture #71 sera en piste le 11 juillet prochain sur le circuit Beech Ridge Speedway, Scarborough ME alors que son « spotter » Étienne Cliche sera au volant de la voiture suite à un règlement interdisant la conduite pour les 15 ans et moins. On vous tient au courant!

DÉBUT D'UNE 8e SAISON POUR L'ASSOCIATION VINTAGE QUÉBEC

St-Eustache 6 mai 2015 - C'est le week-end prochain que les pilotes de l'Association de stock car Vintage Québec seront en piste, à l'Autodrome Chaudière pour leur première sortie de la saison 2015. Un événement qui portera le nom de notre vétéran pilote de la voiture # 35, Langis Caron.

 






L'association de stock-car Vintage Québec est composée d'une vingtaine d'équipes qui ont tous le même but de s'amuser à piloter des répliques de stock-car des années 1972 et antérieures pour faire revivre aux nostalgiques l'époque où les voiture avaient du son et de la «rod», comme ils le disent si bien. On y voit des Camaro, des Firebird, des Nova, des Chevelle, des Javelin, des Mustang et autres préparées à la façon dont le faisaient les pilotes de l'époque des années 60 !

Plusieurs de ces bolides sont des répliques de stock car ayant déjà existé, comme par exemple le B-45 de feu François Chaussé, le 35 de Langis Caron, le 66 de Lucien Rocheleau et autres. Les deux dernières mentionnées sont même pilotées par les même pilotes qu'à l'époque ! Langis Caron et Lucien Rocheleau pilotent des répliques de leurs propres voitures d'antan ! Inutile de mentionner que ces deux amants de la course ont atteint des âges vénérables de plus de 60 et 70 ans ! Il y a aussi d'autres anciens pilotes de stock car qui pilotent pour le plaisir dont Patrick Verner, président de l'ASCVQ, Steve Gamache, Renaud Blais, Pierre Paul Champagne, Claude Ouellet, Bruno Lacroix, Guy Vallière, Daniel Verner, Michel Groleau, Jean Sébastien St-Antoine, Jacques Petitclerc, Daniel Goyette, Robert Goyette et tous les autres occasionnels. Sur la vingtaine d'équipes, une douzaine de rencontrent lors des événements. Cette année, ce sera à 5 occasions.

 

«Le contexte économique étant ce qu'il est présentement, et le fait qu' une bonne partie de nos pilotes pratiquent ce sport par plaisir, étant des salariés avec horaires réguliers avec une vie familiale, et dû au fait que les pistes de courses ont réduit de plus de 50% le nombre de courses à leur calendrier de stock-car, nous avons décidé de réduire la cadence, afin de donner plus de temps à nos engagés de remplir leurs obligations familiales et autres en se limitant à 5 courses»….. de préciser les dirigeants de l'ASCVQ, Patrick Verner et Josée Ratté.

« Nous remercions les pistes qui nous ont fait confiance en 2015 et nous espérons leur donner le meilleur spectacle que possible,,,,,» d'ajouter Patrick  Verner, le président et maître d'œuvre de toute l'organisation.

 

Comme mentionné plus haut, Patrick et Josée dirigent, depuis maintenant 8 ans,  leur série avec une petite équipe d'officiels,  dont Yves et Francyne Ladouceur, le signaleur Mario Dulac et deux ou 3 autres officiels pour l'inspection technique et les pneus.

 

Tout ce beau monde seront à l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction ce samedi 11 juillet, lors du «Langis Caron 150» programme auquel participeront la Série ACT et STR Slingshot. Les détails de l'horaire seront publiés par l'autodrome Chaudière sous peu..

Willow Barberstock is Booked for an Appearance on 'The CHEX Daily'

With a motorsports resume that includes multiple main event victories and the 2014 Peterborough Speedway Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun division track championship, Willow Barberstock has made headlines and earned some solid fan support for her on-track performance. Now, the talented 15 year-old racer from Stirling, Ontario will make an appearance on 'The CHEX-TV Daily' to promote the series of July events for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – on Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

 

The popular open-wheeled tour is scheduled to run 3 events this month on the Central Ontario speedplant. OMRS shows this season have featured close to 20 quality teams at each event, with some highly competitive action. Next on the agenda will be the second of this year's Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Nights – presented by Pepsi – Saturday, July 11th.

 

Since getting her start winning races and championships against much older competition in a go kart at the legendary Mosport/Canadian Tire Motorsport Park road course at the age of 8, Barberstock turned her first laps in a stock car during the 2012 edition of Peterborough Speedway's marquee event – the Autumn Colours Classic – weeks before her 13th birthday. The following season, the 4Fun car became her regular weekly ride and her experience level grew as she turned laps on the track against some older and more knowledgeable competition.

 

"I really enjoy being at the track and spending time around the other drivers," said Barberstock. "Everyone is so friendly and no matter how much they want to beat you once the green flag waves, they're always willing to lend a hand or offer some helpful advice. When I'm not out there in my own car, I like to watch where everyone else is running and time their laps. It helps me provide some information to the people on my team that will make us better throughout the season. I've made so many wonderful friends over the years, there's really no place I'd rather be."

 

Barberstock's promotional appearance will be on 'The CHEX Daily' on Peterborough's CHEX-TV Thursday, July 9thwith program co-anchor Teresa Kaszuba. The show will air live at 5:00 on Cogeco channel 12 in the Belleville/Trenton area. Station programming is also available on Shaw Direct and Bell Expressvu satellite across Canada. Un vendredi « Spécial » Classes Locales

 

Ce vendredi 10 juillet, ce tiendra le prochain programme réunissant nos 3 classes locales soit Sport Compact Amateur, Sport Compact Élite et Limité. Une soirée où ils seront à l'honneur et où les spectateurs auront droit à deux finales dans chaque classe.

 



Effectivement, étant donné l'annulation du programme du 30 mai dernier, la finale prévue ce jour-là sera remise à ce vendredi en plus du programme prévu à l'origine le samedi 11 juillet.

La #71 Ann-Marie Lessard a réussi à obtenir deux podiums consécutifs, dont une victoire convaincante lors du dernier programme. Réussira-t-elle à rafler la 1ere position au classement actuellement détenu par le #18 Jean-Philippe Groleau? Chose certaine, Groleau n'a pas l'intention de laisser sa place; le pilote de Ste-Marie se battra pour le championnat. Avec 20 pilotes présents depuis le début de la saison, la classe Sport Compact Amateur commandité par Oricom Internet gagne le cœur des spectateurs de programme en programme.

 

1ere manche de la Triple Couronne Oricom

La classe Sport Compact Élite Oricom Internet est aussi en pleine recrudescence. On compte depuis le début de la saison 31 pilotes qui ont participé à au moins une des 3 épreuves. Lors du dernier programme, on a pu constater le travail fait par le directeur de course Stéphan Bacon pour ramener la discipline en piste.

Les pilotes auront donc deux finales, dont une qui comptera pour la Triple Couronne Oricom.

 

Mise sur pied cette année, la Triple Couronne Oricom Internet comptera 3 programmes dont un à l'Autodrome Chaudière ce 10 juillet, le second à l'Autodrome Saint-Félicien le 25 juillet et la dernière manche à l'Autodrome Montmagny le 8 août prochain. Trois finales de 50 tours qui rallieront des pilotes de ces régions afin de se mesurer entre eux sur des circuits qui leur sont moins familiers.

On comptera de ce nombre le #21 Vital Bélanger de Saint-Félicien qui était présent lors du dernier programme et qui pourrait bien nous surprendre lors de notre présence dans sa région.

 

Bien qu'il y a une dominance encore cette année du #75 Steve Godbout, le classement est serré et les #43 Julien Bernier et #17 Maxime Gagné n'ont pas l'intention de laisser leur place et compte bien livrer bataille au champion défendant ainsi qu'au #98 Pascal Turgeon qui occupe actuellement la 2e position ainsi qu'au #26 Martin Bisson actuellement en 3e position.

 

Les pilotes Limités lancent un appel

Rencontré plus tôt en début de semaine, les deux représentants des pilotes le #47 Yves Marcoux  et le #48 Yves Perreault font tout en leur pouvoir pour convaincre les pilotes qui ne se sont pas présentés depuis le début de la saison de venir porter main forte à la classe afin d'en assurer sa survie. Espérons que les efforts que certains pilotes font seront récompensés. Commandité principalement par Automobile Wendake, les deux finales prévues ce vendredi pourraient venir faire bouger le classement qui est actuellement très serré.
