PASS South Drivers Excited For Return To Southern National
For Immediate Release
CHARLOTTE, NC (April 10) – As the thermometer rises, so does the excitement level of Eastern North Carolina race fans as the "Big Boys With The Bad Fast Toys" head back to Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, NC. This weekend's Dogwood Blossom 150 marks the return of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models to Southern National for the first time since 2009. It will only be the third time PASS South has ever raced at Kenly. To show how tough the high-banked, 4/10 mile speedway is look no further than the record books and who came away with those checkered flags, Freddie Query in 2006 and Ben Rowe in 2009, two of the best to ever race Super Late Models.
In the late 1990's and early 2000's, Nashville, NC's John Batten was the man to beat when it came to Super Late Model racing at Southern National. Race wins were commonplace to the driver of the #48 Batten Ceramic Tile/Digital Repair/Hutson Insurance Chevrolet, who also won back-to-back Southern National titles in 2004 and 2005. Batten has been a regular with PASS South since the series started in 2006, finishing in the top 10 in points each of the last six seasons. But, despite being one of PASS South's most consistent drivers, Batten has yet to go to victory lane. And, 2013 has not started the way the veteran had hoped, finishing no better than 14th at Dillon and failing to make the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory due to a blown engine in practice. The veteran hopes his luck can change this weekend at the site of much of his early racing success.
"Really looking forward to going back to Southern National," said Batten. "It's a place where we have been successful in the past and it's a great place to hopefully turn our season around. We would really like to get a great finish in front of the hometown fans."
When Southern National Raceway Park reopened in 2012 after being shuttered for nearly four years, it was a priority to keep Super Late Model racing alive at the track. A Super Late Model "mini-series" was held with goal of once again snagging valuable PASS South dates in 2013. Two drivers that competed in Southern National's "mini-series" were Karl Weber and Bobby Measmer, Jr.
While competing in the PASS Pro Late Model division last year, Weber got his feet wet racing in Super Late Models at Southern National. As a PASS South rookie this year, Weber is seeing many tracks for the first time behind the wheel of the #50 Farm Logic/Silveus Insurance Ford, a decided disadvantage compared to his competitors. But coming to Kenly, Weber feels he will be on an even playing field, perhaps with an advantage.
"We're really excited about Southern National coming up," said Weber, nicknamed the 'Flying Farmer' thanks to his family business. "We ran the local series there last season and got Rookie-Of-The-Year. It definitely gives me an advantage knowing what the car's going to feel like which brings the whole team confidence for the Dogwood Blossom 150."
For Measmer, this weekend's action at Southern National gives him a sense of confidence. There is no other track on the circuit which Measmer has more experience racing on. And, he feels Southern National's track configuration plays right in to his team's hands.
"We ran the series at Kenly last year and ended the season really well, so I'm pumped to be going back," said Measmer. "I'm looking forward to going to a big motor track like Southern Nationnal with nice high banks, a lot of room to race, a lot of speed. It's a place I really enjoy running."
Another full field of the South's top Super Late Model drivers is expected led by PASS South championship contenders Kyle Grissom, Jay Fogleman, and Brandon Ward. Easter Bunny 150 winner Preston Peltier circles Southern National as one of his favorite tracks and will be returning along with teammate, Tyler Church. PASS North veteran Derek Ramstrom will make the trip down I-95 from Massachusetts to race at Kenly along with PASS South veterans Justin Allison, Bill Catania, Jody Measamer and Kevin Powell, returning to the driver's seat of Dicky Woodman's potent Q104 machine. Rookie contenders Brandon Lynn, Tate Fogleman, Bobby Gower, and Cole Timm will be joined at Southern National by a stellar group of talented youngsters including Jared Irvan and Joe Ryan Osborne. Trevor Noles steps into the Coulter Motorsports #2 as he and Tyler Audie make the move up from the PASS Pro Late Model division. And, longtime Southern National competitor Shelton McNair, Jr. hopes to take the M3 to victory lane for the first time in PASS South competition.
Action gets under way on Friday, April 12th for the Dogwood Blossom 420 with rotating practice from 1 – 6:30 PM for the PASS South Super Late Models, PASS Pro Late Models, Limited Late Models, Chargers, Mini Mod Mayhem and Bandoleros. On Saturday, April 13th, pit gates open at 10 AM, with rotating practice for all divisionsfrom 12:45 PM – 4:20 PM, qualifying at 4:45 PM, the pit party at 6:30 PM and feature racing at 7 PM.

8-Time Champion, RPM Motorsports Set Sights Limited 2013 Schedule
GEORGIA, Vt. – After combining to win more races and championships than any driver and car owner tandem in the history of the ACT Late Model Tour, Brian Hoar and Rick Paya are shifting gears in 2013.
The decorated driver and owner/crew chief combination will compete part-time on the ACT Late Model Tour this season, beginning this weekend with the season-opening New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H., on April 20-21.
"I just have a lot going on business-wise and personal-wise, and I've been racing a long time," said Hoar, 40, who has won the last two ACT races at Lee USA. "Life is all about balance and balancing everything between family, work and racing. My family and I are just as busy as ever. Spending so much time racing (became harder) with all of my work requirements and things I wanted to do with the family.
"I've got some other stuff I've wanted to do, and it seemed like the right time to slow it down a bit."
Hoar, of Williston, Vt., and Paya, of Georgia, Vt., teamed to win three consecutive ACT championships from 2009-2011. Each won five championships previously – Hoar with his family-owned team before he went to the old NASCAR Busch North Series and Paya with Jean-Paul Cyr driving for him. While Hoar has 37 career Tour wins, nearly twice as many as the next driver on the all-time win list, Paya has crew chiefed his way to more than 30 victories.
The RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge Charger will compete in the first four ACT events of this season. They will also run a pair of August races in Canada, both the inaugural International 500 at Airborne Speedway and the Milk Bowl at Thunder Road International Speedbowl, and two extra-distance ACT events late in the season.
They may not be chasing the championship again in 2013, but they'll both certainly be looking to add to their impressive win total. Hoar said he doesn't plan to change his approach to race day at all.
"It's a simple answer: no," Hoar said. "It doesn't change my approach at all... I know if you want to win, you still have to have the fenders on it and be there at the end. I always try to race within mine and my car's capabilities. I try to race smart to be in position to win the fight at the end. I'm not going out there saying, 'Checkers or wreckers' – what's been successful for me has been my approach."
With his win in the Governor's Cup 150 last season, Hoar became the first repeat winner in the 23-race history of ACT at Lee USA. It's a track that suits both Late Model racing, and Hoar's driving style.
He'd like to make it three in a row this weekend.
"There's not a lot of grip there, and we've got a good setup for it," Hoar said. "I've always liked the track – the style of it, the way we race and pass there.
"We've had a great race car every year I've race for Rick there at Lee. I'm really pumped. We tested last week, and the car should be really quick. I'm looking forward to it."

Entries Flowing in For 40th Annual TD Bank 250 at Oxford
NAPLES, ME (April 10) – Entries from all across North America are pouring in as team's start looking forward to the 40th Annual TD Bank 250 on July 21st at Oxford Plains Speedway. This year one of short track racing's most historic event will be contested by the popular Pro All Stars Series Super Late Models for the first time since 2006. The list of winners reads like a "who's who" in stock car racing and includes such names as Lindley, Bodine, Hanley, Craven, Rowe, Harvick, and Busch. And, with the richest single-day purse in motorsports, the TD Bank 250 at Oxford is once again attracting the best short tracks racers in the world, all competing for the $25,000 winner's share. With $25,000 in additional lap leader money, this year's TD Bank 250 winner could take home upwards of $50,000 in total.
"We knew the response would be big when we announced the PASS Super Late Models would headline the 40th Annual TD Bank 250, but we're overwhelmingly pleased with the way racers and fans have responded to this event," said PASS President and Oxford Plains Speedway owner Tom Mayberry. "The TD Bank 250 really is an event to behold. Fans will start camping out a week in advance of the race. With the list of talent we have coming growing by the day, I believe this year's race truly will be bigger and better than ever."
Momentum is already building for this year's TD Bank 250 as an exciting list of early entries build daily. The list is led by former two-time TD Bank 250 winner Ben Rowe and five-time PASS North Super Late Model champion Johnny Clark. 2012 PASS National Champion Jay Fogleman and fellow North Carolinian Brandon Ward will be joined by Georgia's Spencer Davis in making the trip north to Oxford Plains. The Q104 entry of Dicky Woodman, which has finished no lower than fourth in the first three PASS South races of the season, will also be at Oxford with a driver yet to be named.
PASS North regulars Cassius Clark, Scott Mulkern, Matt Matheson, and Derek Ramstrom will not only be looking for a win in the prestigious TD Bank 250, but for valuable points towards the season ending championship. Likewise, Joey Doiron and Kyle Desouza will be looking for maximum points for both the PASS North and PASS National Championship.
Naturally, Maine will be well represented in one of the state's biggest sporting events by a strong field of home state competitors including Corey Bubar, Chris Coolidge, Tim and Vanna Brackett and Dave Farrington, Jr. New Hampshire's Dan Colby has already filed an entry in addition to New York's Josh Lloyd, both hoping to keep the money and prestige of a TD Bank 250 title in the Northeast.

Nominees For NASCAR Hall of Fame’s Fifth Class Announced
Famed Engine Builder Petty, Short Track Star Phillips Among 25 Eligible
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 10, 2013) — Larger than life figures who built NASCAR lap by lap and bolt by bolt from the post-World War II era into the 21st century comprise the 25 nominees for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
NASCAR today announced those 25 nominees for the NASCAR Hall of Fame's fifth induction class, and included among the diverse group are five newcomers whose achievements are cornerstones of the sport's origins and continue to fuel its growth in contemporary times.
Of the 25 nominees, 20 return from last year's group. Five are first-timers with varying backgrounds in the sport: second generation NASCAR premier (now Sprint Cup) series champion Dale Jarrett; Maurice Petty, for more than three decades the chief engine builder for Petty Enterprises; five-time NASCAR weekly series national champion Larry Phillips; race track builder and owner Bruton Smith; and 1960 NASCAR premier series champion Rex White.
From that list, five inductees will be elected by the NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel, which includes a nationwide fan vote on NASCAR.COM. Voting Day for the 2014 class will be May 22.Fans can attend the announcement at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C.
This round of nominees was selected by a 21-person Nominating Committee consisting of representatives from NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame and track owners from both major facilities and historic short tracks. The committee's votes were tabulated by accounting firm Ernst & Young.
The NASCAR Hall of Fame's 2014 inductees will be determined by a 54-member Voting Panel, which includes the entire Nominating Committee, media members, manufacturer representatives, retired competitors (drivers, owners and crew chiefs) and recognized industry leaders. In addition, the fan vote will result in the Voting Panel's final ballot. Fan voting on NASCAR.COM opens today, April 10 and closes May 21 at noon.

Dirty Dozen Cup: Reid Lanpher Southern Nat'l Motorsports Park Race Report

KENLY, N.C. – Fourteen-year-old Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, continued his impressive performance with JR Motorsports, finishing third in the second half of the Dirty Dozen Cup Twin 100s at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C., on Saturday, April 6. In addition to his career-best finish in the No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, Lanpher also posted his best career qualifying effort with a fifth-place run in time trials earlier in the day. Lanpher started ninth in the second 100-lap Late Model Stock feature and was running down the leaders after climbing all the way to third by the time the checkered flag flew in the caution-free event. In the first 100-lap race, he was running inside the Top-10 when contact from another competitor shuffled him to the back half of the field before Lanpher rallied to finish ninth. Lanpher now has two Top-5 finishes and four straight Top-10s – all in the last four races – with the team owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

REID, HOW DID IT FEEL TO GET YOUR FIRST PODIUM FINISH FOR JR MOTORSPORTS?
It was awesome. The car was a rocket ship. It was great. I wish I could have had a caution at the end, honestly. By the time I worked my way up there, (the leaders) were probably a half a track ahead of me. I was running faster lap times than them at the end. I was gaining on them slowly, but I wasn't killing my tires trying to get to them. I still wanted to save my tires a little bit, in case we had a caution so we could hopefully be able to give them something. The car was just so fast.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FIRST FEATURE?
I got stuck on the outside on the start and got freight-trained back to ninth.
It was only about halfway in, and I got dive-bombed going off into the corner. The guy came right in under me and stuffed it right in there. I was completely sideways. I straightened it out, but by the time I got recovered and bounced off a couple of cars, I had fallen back to about 14th. Thankfully, I still was able to get back to ninth.
WHY WERE YOU SO MUCH BETTER IN THE SECOND RACE THAN THE FIRST?
Every time we've gone to the track to race, we've slowly gotten better and better. I've had better success in my second races. There's something I like about it better – I like having a strong finish, which I have been doing.
Our only goal is to keep moving forward, getting better and slowly working trying to get a win.
DOES A NIGHT LIKE THIS GIVE YOU REASON TO BELIEVE A WIN IS COMING SOON?
Yeah. We've made major gains, and we've gone back to the shop every time knowing what we can do better for the next race. The competition is tough. Look at Lee Pulliam, he's been practically undefeated this year, and he finished second in that race, and Josh (Berry) is one of the best Late Model drivers around and he got seventh. It's just really hard to win these races.
I definitely think we're on the right track. I don't know when or if, but I think a win is right around the corner. I really do.

New Crazy Horse Chassis Leads All 50 Laps En Route To Victory
WATERFORD, Conn. – It wasn't a bad debut for Keith Rocco's brand new Crazy Horse Racing chassis.
Rocco led every lap to thoroughly dominate en route to victory in the 50-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model feature event as part of the season-opening Budweiser Blastoff at Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Conn., on Sunday, April 7.
It was Rocco's fifth career Late Model victory for car owner Scott Fearn as the two begin pursuit of their first championship in the division.
"This Crazy Horse chassis is unbelievable," Rocco, of Wallingford, Conn., told RaceDayCT.comfollowing the win. "The track definitely freed up from (Saturday), and as free as the track was, this thing still drove hard off the corner and had an awesome nose on it.
"I can't say enough for everybody over at Crazy Horse Racing. They definitely put us together a stellar piece."
Rocco, the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion, also won the 63-lap SK Modified feature event Sunday at Waterford. He has already won SK Modified and Street Stock championships at the track during his career.

Fort Kent Teen Named Maine Driver Of The Year For 2012
AUGUSTA, Maine – Austin Theriault added another laurel to his already impressive resume, as the Fort Kent, Maine, native was named the 2012 Driver Of The Year during the Maine Vintage Race Car Association (MVRCA) annual Hall Of Fame induction ceremony and banquet on Saturday, April 6, at the Augusta Civic Center.
Theriault, 19, competed full-time on the ACT Late Model Tour last season while also running several races for Brad Keselowski Racing and making two PASS North Series starts.
"It's a tremendous honor to be named the MVRCA 'Driver of the Year,'" Theriault said after competing in a Southern Super Series for Super Late Models at the historic Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday night. "It's humbling to have your name up there with so many of the great names that are part of this sport. I want to thank everyone who was involved in the selection process."
Theriault's breakout 2012 season was marked by an ACT Late Model Tour win at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, in July and a PASS North Series victory in the season finale at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, in October. He also posted his second consecutive third-place finish in the prestigious TD Bank Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains.
Theriault finished third in the final ACT Late Model Tour standings, the only driver to post Top-10 finishes in all 10 of the series' points races. He also recorded six Top-5 finishes, tying for the series-high.
His campaign was rounded out with a multi-race effort at BKR, which made starts in such nationally-notable races as the Snowball Derby in Pensacola, Fla., the World Crown 300 in Jefferson, Ga., the Winchester 400 in Winchester, Ind., and the Rowdy 251 in Berlin, Mich. Theriault posted a third-place finish in the Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., in November.
"I really can't thank Brad Keselowski Racing, Crazy Horse Racing, (crew chief) Mickey Green, Gary Crooks, my family, the crews that worked on the cars and everybody involved in ACT and PASS enough," Theriault said. "There are so many people to thank for helping me get to where I am now. I'm almost at a loss for words to have been given such a prestigious award."
During the winter, Theriault moved to North Carolina to work at Brad Keselowski Racing, where he will continue to drive for the BKR development program this season. He will also pilot a family-owned car in six races in Maine this summer, including the Oxford 250, three PASS races at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and two more PASS races at Oxford Plains, beginning with the season-opening 150-lap event on April 21.

La Série Sportsman Lucas Oil sera représentée au 44e Salon de l’Auto-Sport de Québec.

La Série Sportsman Lucas Oil est fière de vous inviter au 44e Salon de l'Auto-Sport de Québec qui se tiendra le 12-13-14 avril prochain au Centre de Foires Expo Cité de Québec.
Le Salon de l'Auto-Sport est la plus grande exposition de véhicules haute performance de la Province de Québec. Hot Rod, véhicule de rue, custom, véhicule de compétition, camions et motos seront exposés pour le plus grand bonheur des quelques 20 000 visiteurs attendus.
Trois voitures de la Série y seront exposées soit celle du champion défendant 2012, #45 Steve Malouin McKibbin de Lévis, la voiture #7 de Réjean Blanchet de Québec et le dévoilement de la voiture #88 de Dave Trevors de Québec, ancien #66 de Simon Roussin.
Les officiels seront présents sur place au kiosque de la Série où il sera possible de vous procurer des autocollants, des casquettes officielles et des calendriers de la saison 2013.

Hoar In Search of Record Third Lee Victory

Waterbury, VT – 2013's American Canadian Tour Season Opener on April 13/14 will mark the 23rd ACT event at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH – and the 14th Season opener at the track – giving today's drivers a chance at being a part of a storied history at Lee USA Speedway with the American Canadian Tour.
Lee USA served as the home for the ACT season opener in 1987 – the 2nd full season of the American Canadian Tour – and saw legend Beaver Dragon take the victory. Dragon wasn't the only driver to kick off a season with a win at Lee though, as stars like Robbie Crouch, Jean-Paul Cabana, Russ Urlin, Dave Dion, Kevin Lepage, and Ralph Nason won them too, cementing their names into the long-standing history of Lee and the American Canadian Tour.
An 8-year hiatus from 1995 until 2003 ushered in a new era of drivers who looked to be on the same list as the greats. Patrick Laperle led the charge with a win in the return race in 2003, and was joined in the years to come by wins from multi-time Thunder Road Champion Cris Michaud, 7-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr, multi-time Stock Car Champion Ben Rowe, and most recently, 8-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar. Lee has proven to be a wildcard, adding surprise winners like Ontario's DJ Kennington, and New Hampshire's Miles Chipman to the list. No driver has won more than two-events at Lee in its 23 ACT events. Robbie Crouch, Russ Urlin, and Brian Hoar all have two apiece, but Hoar is the only one of the three to have done it since ACT turned to Late Models.Since ACT's return to Lee in 2003, over $250,000 has been paid out to competitors.
In 2013, Hoar will search for his third straight victory at Lee. Hoar knows the history of the track well, and understands how tricky it can be.
"I can't wait to get back to Lee. There's something about the season opener. Everybody has a fresh start, they're happy to see each other, and it's a good time to get the cobwebs out," said Hoar. "I love the track, and we've had a lot of success there. Wins are hard to come by here, but we'll be after it. Any shot at history makes it that much more special for me,"he finished.
The season begins on April 13/14 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH.

LA PORTE D’ENTRÉE DES SPORTSMAN LUCAS OIL ASE
version 2013, de l'ANCA
SAINT-EUSTACHE, 7 AVRIL 2013. La cuvée 2013 de la division Grand Régional sera composée de pilotes fanatiques des 8 cylindres qui possèdent des voitures ou camionnettes sur châssis métriques en plus de conserver les anciennes Camaros et autres voitures existantes et conformes à la règlementation qui composaient la division Production des dernières années.
C'est donc dire, qu'en plus de ceux qui faisaient partie des Production avec des Camaro, c'est-à-dire, les Michel Coulombe, la voiture de feu François Bouvrette, Dominic Bergeron et autres, ainsi que toutes voitures et camionnettes munies de châssis métriques seront réunis dans cette division où ils pourront pratiquer le sport qu'ils aiment dans un climat amical et convivial,
Le pilotes recrue ontarien Karol Thibodeau sur châssis métrique munie d'une carrosserie Sportsman et le vétéran Michel Coulombe sur Camaro seront de la partie en Grand Régional en 2013. Peut-être pourront voir revoir en piste quelques Pro-Trucks encore existants en Grand Régional en 2013.
Avec l'ajout de l'acceptation des carrosseries Sportsman sur les voitures Grand Régional avec châssis métriques, les pilotes qui opteront de cette option pourront participer à des compétitions dans la classe maîtresse de l'Autodrome St-Eustache, les Sportsman Lucas Oil ASE.
Autre attrait important pour les pilotes Grand Régional, en plus du moteur règlementé ANCA, ils pourront utiliser, moyennant une « plaque de restriction » qui s'installe en quelques minutes, pour équilibrer les forces, les moteurs 602 qu'utilisent les Sportsman. Ces derniers sont accessibles flambant neufs ou en version « rafraichie ANCA 602 » à des prix accessibles à tous. Les informations sur la règlementation est facile à trouver sur le site www.anca-qc.com.
Il sera donc intéressant pour les amateurs de courses de voir évoluer ces pilotes regroupés des catégories Production, Pro Truck et de la nouvelle division Grand Régional s'affronter lors des événements de stock car de la prochaine saison estivale à l'Autodrome St-Eustache. Il sera aussi intéressant de voir comment se comporteront les pilotes munis de carrosseries Sportsman qui s'ajouteront à la course principale de chaque événement en Sportsman Lucas Oil. Avec cette nouvelle formule on pourrait bien voir ré-apparaître en piste des voitures et des pilotes qui avaient délaissé leur sport depuis quelques saisons.
Les pilotes des catégories Pro-truck, Production et Sportsman sont conviés à une réunion d'informations qui sera tenue le vendredi 26 avril, 19h00 à l'Autodrome St-Eustache pour en savoir plus sur les grandes lignes de la saison 2013 en Sportsman Lucas Oil ASE et Grand Régional.
