LA SÉRIE ACT-QUÉBEC S’ADJOINT DEUX QUÉBÉCOIS

Changement important dans la série ACT-Québec alors que l’Americain Canadian Tour annonce qu’à compter de cette saison, le groupe RPM Management Ltée (RPM), une compagnie de Québec, dirigée par un mordu du stock-car et promoteur, Sylvain Brouillette et son partenaire, Jean-François Fredette s’occuperont des affaires quotidiennes en ce qui concerne la promotion et les responsabilités des événements.

On se souviendra que l’ACT avait pris cette série en 2007 alors qu’elle était dans la tourmente et en a fait un succès attirant des foules considérables et couronnant de réputés champions tels que Donald Theetge de Québec, Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, Karl Allard de St-Félicien ainsi que détenteur de la couronne actuelle, Jean-François Déry de Québec.

Brouillette et Fredette sont les copropriétaires et promoteurs de la série de camionnettes Pro-Cam. Ce championnat sera dorénavant sanctionné par l’ACT selon l’entente survenue avec les deux parties. Ils s’occuperont également de la nouvelle entreprise American Racer tire pour les deux championnats. « Il y a quelque temps que nous cherchions de l’aide d’officiels du Québec. Je connais Sylvain Brouillette depuis plusieurs années. Il a été un ardent défenseur de la l’ACT et les équipes de l’ACT-US anticipent de voir l’équipe RPM se joindre à nous pour assurer aux équipes québécoises que la série ACT continuera de maintenir son standard d’excellence pour les amateurs du Québec» de dire Tom Curley, le président de l’ACT.

Une cédule de dix courses, incluant l’Autodrome St-Eustache maintenant sous la bannière Nascar, le tracé de 5/8 de mille du circuit Riverside Speedway ainsi que l’Autodrome Montmagny et l’Autodrome Chaudière seront les hôtes de l’ACT en 2014.

L’ouverture de la saison aura lieu à l’Autodrome St-Eustache, le 24 mai prochain.

ACT SERIE QUEBEC ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGE

Waterbury, VT – The U.S.-based American Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced a management change for its Canadian Late Model stock car series, beginning in 2014. Racing Promotion Management, Ltd. (RPM), a Quebec-based company, led by long-time racing enthusiast and promoter Sylvain Brouillette and his partner Jean-François Fredette, will take over the day-to-day promotion, marketing and event responsibilities for the 2014 season.

ACT took over the struggling Series in 2007, and it has turned into the most exciting stock car racing in Quebec, drawing large crowds and crowning notable champions of the Series like Donald Theetge from Quebec City, Patrick Laperle from Montreal, Ste. Felicien's Karl Allard, and 2013 defending Champion Jean-François Déry from Quebec City.

Brouillette and Fredette are the owners and promoters of the Pro-Cam Truck Series. The Truck Series will become sanctioned by ACT as a part of the new management team's arrangement with ACT. They will also manage the new American Racer tire business for both series. "We have been anxious to get some established help from Quebec officials for some time now. I have known Sylvain Brouillette for many years. He has been a strong advocate of ACT racing, and the ACT US team looks forward to having the RPM team join us in assuring all the fans and teams in Quebec that ACT racing will continue to set a standard of excellence for the fans and teams of Quebec," said the President of ACT, Tom Curley.

A ten race schedule, including the NASCAR-sanctioned Autodrome Ste-Eustache, the5/8th mile oval outside of Quebec City, Circuit Riverside Speedway, and the third mile and quarter mile ovals in the eastern part of Quebec, Autodrome Montmagny and Autodrome Chaudiere, will all host the ACT Série in 2014.

"We are anxious to get started and are very excited about working with ACT this season. I have been a big fan of short track racing and especially the ACT for many, many years. We feel confident that working with the ACT crew will help us to make this Series even stronger for our many fans in Quebec", said Sylvain Brouillette, the head of the RPM.

Stone, Gonyo Receive Top Honors at Devil’s Bowl Ceremony

Capacity crowd recognizes champions and award winners

RUTLAND, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway honored the achievements of its star stock car drivers on Saturday, February 1 at the annual Banquet of Champions, held at the Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington in Rutland, VT.  The sold-out crowd of nearly 300 guests enthusiastically applauded the champions of the track’s four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions along with the Northern Modified Challenge Series, the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series, and the Enduro Series.

Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT was officially crowned the champion of the headline Bond Auto Parts Modified division after a record-breaking season of 10 victories in 17 starts.  Stone’s crew chief Jeff Carter received NASCAR’s UNOH Ultimate Mechanic Challenge prize, and the owner’s championship, won by Gardner Stone, was accepted by long time team member Rob Lowell.  Hunter Bates was honored as the Modified division’s runner-up, with Vince Quenneville, Jr. third.

Veteran Modified racer Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY received a standing ovation and the track’s highest honor with the second annual John Bruno Award.  Named in honor of the late multi-time champion driver and owner, the John Bruno Award is given in recognition of a lifetime of achievement in racing while maintaining high standards of conduct on and off the track.  Gonyo is a veteran of more than 40 years of racing at several paved and dirt tracks in the U.S. and Canada; the biggest victory of his career came in the 1986 Yankee 200 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and he is still a regular weekly competitor at the track.

Chris Bergeron of Claremont, NH collected the Late Model division championship in his first season racing at Devil’s Bowl.  The long-time racer’s four wins were enough to fend off rookie Josh Masterson by a scant four points.  Another rookie, Brandon Atkins, was third overall.  Richie Turner of Fairfax, VT picked up hardware for his Renegade division title, and Benson, VT’s Jake Noble was crowned the champion of the Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock division.  Rookie of the Year awards were presented to Modified racer Jamie LaFountain, Late Model driver Masterson, Renegade freshman Brad Bushey, and Mini Stock runner Chuck Bradford. 

Brandon, VT driver Quenneville received awards for winning the inaugural championship of the Northern Modified Challenge Series, and Nick Sweet of Barre, VT went home with the Vermont State Late Model Championship.  Eric “Mongo” Messier of Hinesburg, VT was also recognized as the first-ever Enduro Series champion at Devil’s Bowl.

Several other special awards were given during the evening, with sportswriter Tom Haley and Devil’s Bowl staff member Jeff Champine among the honorees.  Haley received the second annual Award of Excellence for his outstanding coverage of the speedway in the Rutland Herald, while Champine – affectionately known by racers as “The Tire Guy” – received the first-ever Dedication Award for his unwavering commitment to the track.  Each received a raucous standing ovation.

Renegade rookie Stephen Donahue provided one of the evening’s several humorous highlights as the Sportsmanship Award winners were announced.  Having been in attendance to receive his fourth-place point trophy earlier in the evening, the soon-to-be-16-year-old was absent when his name was announced as a Sportsmanship Award winner.  Once he was retrieved from the hotel pool, he returned barefoot and wearing swim trunks to accept his award.  Other Sportsmanship awards were given to Modified driver Dave Snow, Late Model rookie Seth Bridge, and Mini Stock veteran Matt Monaghan.

The keynote address was given by Tom Donahue, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce, with closing speeches given by legendary broadcaster and race promoter Ken Squier and Devil’s Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno.  Prizes were also given prior to the awards ceremony from Bond Auto Parts, Five Star Racecar Bodies, and New England Racing Fuel.

In his speech, Mike Bruno revealed the full 2014 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Schedule, which begins on Sunday, May 4 with the historic Spring Green for the American-Canadian Tour Late Models.  Weekly summer Friday night racing begins one week earlier in 2014, on Friday, May 16.  Other highlights include the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series on Friday, May 30, the Coca-Cola Firecracker special on Friday, July 4, the third annual C.J. Richards Memorial 67 on Friday, August 1, and the Vermont 200 Weekend season finale on September 13-14.

Bruno also announced the return of dirt track racing with a three-event post-season schedule beginning in late September.  Events will be held on Friday, September 26, on Saturday, October 4, and on Saturday, October 18.  Further details will be announced soon.

La Série a comme objectif de travailler avec des compagnies d’ici pour que notre stock car continue à s’améliorer et à se développer.

Le nouveau « UNIT TUBULAIRE » # SSQ-2014 sera disponible à compter du 28 février 2014.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway to Host Asphalt and Dirt Racing in 2014

Dirt events in fall, track to remain asphalt long-term

RUTLAND, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has unveiled an exciting and diverse stock car racing lineup for 2014.  The fast half-mile track, located in West Haven, VT just 20 minutes from Rutland City, will pay homage to its past and future with a summer slate of asphalt racing and a three-race return to its original clay dirt surface in the fall.  The announcement was made before a crowd of nearly 300 at the Banquet of Champions on Saturday, February 1.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series pavement season will open on Sunday, May 4 with the historic “Spring Green” event.  The Bond Auto Parts Modified, Renegade, and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock divisions will open their championship schedules, and will be joined again by the exciting American-Canadian Tour Late Models.

The weekly Friday night season kicks off one week early in 2014, on Friday, May 16 at 7:00pm.  Special events dot the summer schedule, beginning with the first of two appearances by the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series on Friday, May 30.  The Coca-Cola Firecracker extravaganza returns on Friday, July 4, with the double-points Mid-Season Championships on Friday, July 18.  There will be two “off weeks” during the season, on Friday, June 13, and again on Friday, July 25.

The third annual C.J. Richards Memorial 67, a special Modified event run in honor of the track’s late founder and in tribute the inaugural 1967 season, has been scheduled for Friday, August 1.  The Friday night schedule ends on August 22 with a double-feature blowout for all four weekly divisions.

The asphalt season draws to a close with the blockbuster Vermont 200 Weekend on September 13-14.  The event includes championship finales for all regular classes as well as the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series, and has quickly become a “must see” event in the Northeast.

Following the completion of the regular season, a professional team of dirt track preparation experts will transform Devil’s Bowl Speedway into a newer version of its former self by laying natural clay over the existing pavement.  The track operated with that same dirt surface for its first four years and again from 1975 to 2009.  The Richards family paved the track in 2010 as part of a long-term vision of overall growth at the speedway.

Dirt events will be held on Friday, September 26, on Saturday, October 4, and on Saturday, October 18, with the division lineup to be announced soon.

Track co-owner and promoter Mike Bruno has stressed that Devil’s Bowl Speedway will forever remain in its current asphalt layout, but that he realizes that a strong segment of local race teams and fans enjoyed dirt racing at Devil’s Bowl for many years.  Two years of extensive research combined with the recent closure of nearby Canaan Fair Speedway in New Hampshire prompted Bruno’s decision.

“We are proud of the growth of our asphalt program over the last few years, and we remain committed to weekly NASCAR asphalt racing at Devil’s Bowl.  Nothing will change that,” Bruno said.  “We have one of the best paved facilities in the area, and it happens to be surrounded by 75 acres of the best natural racing clay in the country.  We will keep supporting the outstanding asphalt racing that we enjoy every week, but we also want to give back to the dirt fans that supported Devil’s Bowl for almost 40 years.”

Bruno has sought advice from industry experts including dirt track promoters Lyle DeVore of Albany-Saratoga (NY) Speedway, Jeremie Corcoran of Canandaigua (NY) Speedway, C.V. Elms of Bear Ridge (VT) Speedway, and several others.  Corcoran has headed up a similar asphalt-to-dirt transformation of Michigan’s Berlin Raceway in each of the last two Septembers, and said that adding the clay – at least in his experience at Berlin – has actually improved the asphalt racing.

“[Corcoran] told me that the clay is removed from the asphalt almost immediately after the race [at Berlin], and then the winter weather sort of cures the track,” Bruno explained.  “In the first pavement race at Berlin after the clay was removed, lap times were faster than the previous track record.”

La course pour le titre de Champion Procam Super Truck 2014 sera des plus âprement disputer !

 

Le Champion 2012 et vice-Champion 2013 Steve Lavigne sera en piste pour gagner le championnat avec un camion tout neuf !

Jimmy Roy qui est sorti de nulle part l’an passé voudra continuer sur son élan.

Steve Côté crie haut et fort qu’il s’en vient chercher le Gros Trophée !

Simon Roussin, ancien champion Sportsman, n’est surement pas la pour la deuxième position ?!

Marc-Antoine Demers a lui aussi l’intention de se battre en avant, Christian Provost qui est toujours une menace, Christopher Daigle et Charles Harvey des jeunes bourrés de talent qui surprennent !

 

Voila maintenant que le Champion 2013 veut revenir pour battre tout ses prétendants au titre !

Après avoir vendu son camion en octobre dernier, Steve Simoneau

vient tout juste de faire l’achat d’un nouveau camion. Et il met toute

les chances de son coté puisqu’il semble s’être formé une excellente équipe pour travailler sur ce camion plus récent.

C’est grâce à un style de pilotage très propre et sa patience que Steve Simoneau mis la main sur le titre en 2013. Son ancien camion datait de quelques années, à vrai dire, ce camion était en piste lorsque que Justin Bieber, alors agé de 7 ans n’avait encore aucune arrestation pour facultés affaiblies à son actif !

 

L’achat de son nouveau camion envoie en message très clair à ses

compétiteurs : C’a ne sera pas facile de se battre contre le Champion !

 

Toute une saison attends les pilotes, les équipiers et les fans de la seule série de camionnette au Québec !!!

CHARLOTTE, NC (February 1) – Due to circumstances out of their control and with great disappointment, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials announced today the cancellation of next weekend’s Winter Meltdown at New Smyrna Speedway.  Miscommunication which resulted in the speedway website not being updated with information about the event, the speedway marquee not being changed to promote the event and a test session scheduled by the speedway that would have extremely limited PASS teams practice time on Friday led to the cancellation.  For any teams that pre-entered for the Winter Meltdown, those entries will be refunded and mailed out on Monday.  Any teams that would like to transfer entries to the Greenville-Pickens Speedway event on March 1 need to contact the PASS offices by Monday.

            “We are extremely disappointed in having to cancel the Winter Meltdown at New Smyrna Speedway,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry.  “I know that this is very inconvenient for our teams that have prepared their cars and booked travel to Florida, but we felt this decision was best in light of the circumstances.  With that said, we’re very excited to kick our season off at Greenville-Pickens on March 1.”

            The Fox Carolina 150 at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on March 1 will now become a PASS National Championship Series event and will also serve as the opener for the PASS South Super Late Models and PASS Pro Late Models.

Le vice-champion 2013 de retour pour la prochaine saison

Supporté par son entourage, particulièrement son père, son frère et sa conjointe, c'est en 2006 que Gerry Bilodeau fait ces débuts en Stock Car. C'est dans la classe Semi-Pro de l'Autodrome Chaudière qu'il roulera de 2006 à 2009. Gagnant de plusieurs prix de la plus belle voiture et terminant en 2e position en 2008 et 2009; Gerry Bilodeau était prêt à relever de nouveaux défis!
 
En 2009, on peut le voir faire quelques apparitions avec les Sportsman mais c'est en 2010, alors qu'il achète l'ancienne voiture de Rock Poulin qu'il fait le saut définitivement dans cette classe. Pour sa première année; alors que l'organisation avait mis en place 2 catégories, il termine la saison avec 4 victoires dans la division Sportsman Québec intermédiaire. Un beau tableau pour ce pilote qui n'en est qu'à sa 4e saison de course !
 
L'année 2011 fût marqué par le départ de son père; il ne fera que quelques sorties mais réussira tout de même à compléter un podium. En 2012, Gerry Bilodeau décide de participer à la saison en Sportsman mais avec la classe locale de Vallée Jonction. Il obtient alors 1 victoire et compte plusieurs podiums. Il se démarque pour offrir à chaque programme une voiture impeccable.
 
On peut dire que 2013 a été une superbe année pour le #24, Gerry Bilodeau. Comptant 5 podiums sur 10 courses dont 2 victoires, il réussit à se classer au 2e rang du classement général. Combatif tout au long de la saison, Gerry est particulièrement fier de son podium à l'Autodrome de Montmagny; piste sur laquelle il n'avait pas connu beaucoup de succès jusqu'à ce jour. C'est sans aucun doute sa détermination et l'expérience acquise au fil des années qui a permis à Gerry Bilodeau de se classer parmi les meilleurs !
 
Que nous réserve le #24 pour la saison 2014? Lorsqu'il a fait l'acquisition de la voiture de Michaël Lavoie, son idée était claire; être encore plus compétitif. Il est certain que cela vient avec de nouveaux défis dont celui de s'adapter à la nouvelle voiture tant au niveau de la conduite que des finir toutes les courses! Qu'est-ce qu'on peut souhaiter à celui qui a terminé si près du championnat 2013? Si vous lui demandez, vous verrez un sourire qui en dit long; gageons que ce pilote de la Guadeloupe se battra pour obtenir son 1er championnat en Sportsman Québec.

ILR CAR CONTROL SCHOOL TO EXHIBIT AND OFFER A DRIVER SEMINAR AT THE CANADIAN MOTORSPORTS EXPO

The Canadian Racing Season Begins February 7, 8, & 9, 2014 at Toronto’s International Centre

 

(TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 27, 2014) Almost every news report reinforces the fact that public roads and highways can be dangerous places, especially when you add in ever-changing road conditions. The unfortunate truth is that most drivers rely on luck, limited experience and maybe some rudimentary training to help them avoid problems. The daily accident reports clearly demonstrate that more needs to be done.

 

One person doing what he can to address the situation is Ian Law. His ILR Car Control School (ILRCCS) specializes in ‘ProActive’ driver training. For those interested in giving themselves and their family members more tools to be able to safely navigate the roads, regardless of conditions, ILRCCS will have a booth and offer a seminar at the upcoming Canadian Motorsports Expo Powered by Inside Track Motorsport News. The CME runs takes place February 7, 8 & 9 at Toronto’s International Centre.

 

“Vehicle and tire design have made cars much safer over the years,” explains Law (at right). Even road design has been improved to keep drivers safe. The only thing that hasn’t advanced is the driver portion of the equation. Kids taking driving schools are taught enough to allow them to get their licenses, but not enough so that they can be safe on the roads.”

 

ILR’s ‘ProActive’ driver training goes beyond ‘defensive driving’ by teaching methods of controlling not only the vehicle, but also the driving situation.

 

“People don’t realize that behind the wheel, everything is counter-intuitive,” continued Law. “The human brain doesn’t always give you the right answer. A lot of what we do is ‘vision training,’ which teaches drivers where to look so they can either avoid – or get out of – trouble.”

 

For more than 20 years, Law’s Car Control School has offered both summer and winter courses and has taught thousands of people, between the ages of 15 and 85, to be better drivers.

 

But Law and his 21 highly-trained, hand-picked instructors also share a competitive background. Therefore, the Car Control School has added to its curriculum by offering instruction in Advanced Autoslalom and at Track Days. These courses are held at Brampton, Ontario’s Powerade Centre and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

 

Catering to the motorsport enthusiast – and drawing on his own, extensive racing experience – Law will use his appearance at the Canadian Motorsports Expo to offer a Sunday seminar on driving techniques, with the theme: ‘Techniques to help you get the most from your technology.’

 

“I’ve been around Autoslalom for years, and I see a lot of guys spending money on technology, but their skills don’t match their cars,” notes Law. “What we do at our school is work on the driver so they can get the most out of their wheels.”

 

He concludes, “Whether you want to be a safer and more confident driver, or learn performance driving techniques, the ILR Car Control School has the advanced driving courses for you.”

ISMA Supermodifieds return to Airborne

ISMA Supermodifieds return to Airborne

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Park Speedway had added an International Supermodified Association (ISMA) event to its 2014 stock car racing schedule on Saturday, May 24.

 

It will be the 3rd-ever appearance on the South Plattsburgh half-mile for the winged, big-block methanol fuel-injected 800HP Supermodifieds.

 

The Supermodifieds Airborne debut produced the closest finish of the 2010 season - in a race won by multi-time ISMA champion Russ Wood. In 2011, Ted Christopher of Plainfield, Conn. drove to victory for car-owner Clyde Booth. That same year, Rob Summers of Vernon, Conn set a fast-lap track record in 14.020 seconds. ISMA Supermodifieds average over 100 mph per lap at Airborne and reach speeds in excess of 130 mph on the straightaways.

 

Lou Cicconi Jr. of Aston, PA, the defending ISMA champion, will pilot a Clyde Booth car at the Airborne event.

 

“I’m looking forward to that one, absolutely,” Cicconi said. “I’ve turned some laps in a DIRT 358 Modified at Airborne while working with Todd Stone, but mechanical problems kept me out of the ISMA race the first time I was there.”

 

“It’s a great track for us,” ISMA President Howie Lane said. “This is a stand-alone weekend event. All the teams love the place and they have notes from the earlier races. They should run even tighter this time.”

 

Airborne’s 61st season weekly schedule begins Saturday, May 3 with a 50-lap feature for DIRTcar 358-Modifieds as the main event.

 

On Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. – regardless of track conditions, Airborne plans a “Meltdown” Demo Derby and Enduro for 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder cars. Both the Demo Derby and the Enduro will pay $500-to-win – for more info, visit www.airborneparkspeedway.com.
