MONTRÉAL, le lundi 7 novembre 2016 | Le jeune pilote québécois de stock car Alex Labbé obtient aujourd'hui le feu vert de l'écurie Go FAS Racing pour disputer sa deuxième saison à temps plein en série NASCAR Pinty's. De plus, il pourra effectuer ses cinq premiers départs en série NASCAR XFinity dont le Ticket Galaxy 200,  ce samedi soir 12 novembre, au Phoenix International Raceway, en Arizona. 

 

« Alex a très bien progressé en 2016 au volant de notre Ford Fusion Can Am-Kappa-Cyclops Gear et il nous fait plaisir de lui permettre de poursuivre son développement au sein de notre organisation. Il reprendra donc le collier à temps plein en NASCAR Pinty's », a dit Alain Lord Mounir, dirigeant de Go FAS Racing, des vêtements Kappa et des caméras Cyclops Gear. 

 

Débuts en Xfinity dès ce week-end

Grâce à ses activités américaines de NASCAR, Go FAS Racing pourra offrir à son poulain la chance de continuer son apprentissage dans cinq courses de la série Xfinity, la deuxième série en importance de NASCAR derrière la coupe Sprint.  Ce programme débutera dès ce week-end alors que la série NASCAR Xfinity roulera en prélude au Can-Am 500 du Phoenix International Raceway.

 

« En plus de lui confier à nouveau le volant de notre voiture en série NASCAR Pinty's, nous voulons qu'Alex continue de gravir les échelons vers les sommets de la course automobile. C'est pourquoi nous lui permettrons de se frotter aux meilleurs pilotes de la relève de NASCAR avec au moins cinq départs au volant d'une de nos Ford Can-Am-Kappa-Cyclops Gear de série NASCAR XFinity. »

 

Pour Alex Labbé, c'est l'occasion inestimable de se faire voir en piste aux côtés des Erik Jones, Elliott Sadler, Daniel Suarez et autres vedettes de la deuxième série de NASCAR.

Fort Worth, le 6 novembre 2016 - Martin Roy s'est fait plaisir, samedi, en prenant part à sa dernière course de NASCAR Xfinity en 2016. Le pilote a rallié l'arrivée en 30e place sur l'ovale rapide du Texas Motor Speedway, mais ce résultat n'est pas représentatif de sa progression au cours de l'épreuve.

La malchance s'est abattue sur l'équipe québécoise King Autosport dès le début du week-end, alors que le moteur de la voiture Gamache/Côté/Arcopel/Entreposage Fantastik n°90 a rendu l'âme au début de la séance d'essais.

« Je n'ai pas du tout pu pratiquer avec la voiture, donc j'ai préféré rester très prudent en qualifications, ne sachant pas trop comment elle allait réagir », a indiqué Martin Roy.

Ayant pris le départ en 35e place, le pilote a connu un très bon début de course, samedi après-midi, sur l'ovale d'un mille et demi. « J'étais rapide avec des pneus neufs. Mais ça s'est rapidement détérioré. Je ne pouvais pas rouler sur la ligne intérieure de la piste », a commenté le pilote de Napierville.

Roy, au volant de la voiture Gamache/Côté/Arcopel/Entreposage Fantastik n°90, s'est toutefois rapidement adapté. « Je me suis fait vraiment plaisir en roulant à l'extérieur. Ça me permettait d'être rapide et de ne jamais lâcher la pédale de l'accélérateur. De plus, ça évitait au moteur d'avoir des temps morts et ça nous rendait compétitifs. Mais ce que je retiens, c'est vraiment le fun que j'ai eu à faire tous ces tours à l'extérieur! », a partagé celui qui est également propriétaire de l'écurie King Autosport.

La voiture Gamache/Côté/Arcopel/Entreposage Fantastik n°90 a rallié l'arrivée en 30e place. « Ça ne représente pas la course que nous avons faite. Nous nous améliorions constamment. Encore une fois, nous avons appris énormément cette saison. C'est un bon résultat pour nous, et nous démontrons de belles choses, et ce, malgré les moyens limités dont nous disposons en comparaison avec les équipes de pointe », a conclu Roy.

Le O'Reilly Auto Parts Challenge a été remporté par Kyle Larson, suivi de Brad Keselowski et Kevin Harvick. 

Il s'agissait de la dernière course en 2016 pour le pilote Martin Roy, qui conclut sa saison en dressant un bilan positif. L'équipe King Autosport sera de retour en action dès la semaine prochaine, au Phoenix International Raceway.

Sargeant Claims Meltdown At Concord; Rowe, Craig Win PASS Titles

MIDLAND, NC (November 5) – Dalton Sargeant held off Preston Peltier in a near photo finish to claim his first career Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model win Saturday afternoonin the Mason-Dixon Meltdown as part of the North-South Shootout at Concord Speedway. Maine's Ben Rowe also celebrated his fourth career PASS National Championship, while Matt Craig edged out Kodie Conner for the PASS South Super Late Model title.

"First off, I really want to thank Preston [Peltier] for driving me as clean as he did, I really respect that," said Sargeant in victory lane.  "I think we had a little bit better drive off the corner than he did, but it's just amazing to get this win as part of the PASS North-South Shootout.  I've got to thank my guys for all the hard work they've put in all year long." 

            In qualifying, Jared Irvan blistered the half-mile triangle for his fourth career PASS South quick qualifying lap with a time of 15.822 seconds (113.766 MPH).  After the top 10 qualifiers redraw, Irvan would slot into the third starting position, while Clay Rogers and Sargeant would move up to the front row.  PASS South points leader Kodie Conner would have an uphill slog racing for the championship as he would start 21st and second place points driver Matt Craig would start fifth.  For Ben Rowe, he secured the PASS National Championship by merely starting the race.

            Rogers led the field at the drop of the green flag, but was quickly overtaken by Irvan on lap five as they raced through the dogleg.  The big mover early on was the winner at Concord in May, Ryan Moore.  After starting 12th, Moore moved by Tate Fogleman for 10th on lap 15 and was making his way up towards the leaders.

            The first caution of the afternoon waved on lap 34 for a solo spin by Terry Horak in turn three.  Just two laps later, Horak would again spin, along with Ontario's JP Josiasse, in turn three.  Irvan continued to lead, now over Sargeant, who moved by Rogers for second. The caution would wave again on lap 50 for the third time during the race as Wes Burton spun down the frontstretch.

After struggling on several restarts due to a broken shifter, Peltier made his way up to third as Sargeant began closing in on Irvan for the lead.  The final caution of the afternoon would wave with 45 laps to go when former Meltdown winner Trevor Noles spun in turn three.

On the restart, Sargeant got a slightly better start than Irvan and was able to use the advantage to take the lead.  As Irvan continued to struggle with the handling on his Chevrolet, Peltier moved by to take second and set his sights on Sargeant for the lead with 30 laps to go.  Both drivers masterfully worked through slower traffic, but Sargeant was able to maintain just a one car length advantage over Peltier. 

Peltier made one final run at Sargeant on the last lap, but the Boca Raton, FL driver held the advantage at the finish for his first career PASS South Super Late Model win.  Irvan finished third, with Moore in fourth and Rogers in fifth.  Rounding out the top 10 were Craig, Josh Berry, Christian Eckes, Jake Crum, and Trey Jarrell.

With his sixth place finish, Craig was able to overtake Conner to become the PASS South Super Late Model titlist by just 12 points.

"All week I just put in my mind that it wasn't a big deal, but every day I got more and more nervous and this morning was pretty rough," said a relieved Craig afterward.  "A lot of good guys have come through this series and a lot of the tracks are tough and prove yourself as a racer and I'm very proud to be the PASS South champion."

For Rowe having only to start the race, his championship run might have been a bit anti-climactic.  But for him and his team, a chance to call himself the nation's only true national champion is an honor he truly relishes.

"You know we all start off the beginning of the year with the goal to be the PASS National Champion and luckily we were able to do it again this year," said Rowe.  "We really enjoy coming down to race with the southern guys, but we were just a little bit off today.  My guys did a great job all year long and we're looking forward to celebrating some more when we get back to Maine."

While the 2016 season is in the books, next year is just around the corner.  The first race for both the PASS National Championship and PASS South will be on Saturday, February 4, 2017, with return of the Winter Meltdown featuring the South Carolina Clash at Dillon Motor Speedway.

La piste de Airborne Park Speedway, par l'entremise d'un communiqué, cite le promoteur John Walker, qui vient d'officialiser que l'anneau ovale de 1-mile sera transformée en terre battue pour la saison 2017. Les classes modifiés 358 , Sportsman 602 sont confirmées. Des discussions pour l'avenir des renagade et bombers (4 cylindres) sont à venir.

Airborne Headed to DIRT

 

PLATTSBURGH- Airborne Park Speedway has officially announced their transformation from an asphalt surface to a dirt surface for the 2017 season.

The official announcement comes after many rumors about the track changing over. Airborne Promoter, John Walker, made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.

"We have been waiting to make a final decision about this," Walker said. "After exploring options and speaking with many people, this is the right decision and were moving forward with it."

        Airborne's 2016 regular season came to a close on September 18. The track saw tremendous improvements last season after working to restore the local car count and fan base. The goals for 2016 were met and Walker was pleased with his first season as a promoter.

        The need for change is to get Airborne in the best position for longevity. Dirt racing is a hot product and this opens an avenue for great success at the local racetrack. Airborne plans on working together with other tracks and building not only the local car count, but entertaining outsiders as well.

        DIRTcar will be the new sanctioning for the progressively banked half-mile track. The DIRTcar rule book will be used to allow drivers from other DIRTcar tracks to race at Airborne without having to make any major changes to their equipment.

        DIRTcar Northeast Director of Series and Sanctioning, Mike Perrotte, is a Plattsburgh resident and commented on the news from the local track.

        "I'm very excited to have Airborne on board as a DIRTcar member." Perrotte said. "Airborne has always been a special place for me, I started my racing career there and also ran the track for 9 seasons."

        DIRTcar has various touring series that Airborne will look to lineup for the 2017 season.

        "I'm excited about the opportunities that DIRTcar can bring to Airborne." 

        The 358 Modifieds will return as the headline division on a weekly basis. 602 Crate Sportsman Modifieds will be included in the weekly racing action. Track officials will be meeting with drivers in the former Renegade and Mini Mod divisions to discuss their alignment for next season.

        "I think it's imperative that we bring the 358's back," Walker noted. "The fans love them and a number of the 358 teams, old and new, have been in contact with us with the rumors out there."

        Airborne Park Speedway Media Director, Robby Knowles, had been receiving calls all weekend long inquiring about the potential change for next season. All those inquiries were positive and hopeful that the rumors were true.

        In addition to the calls, Airborne drivers at the end of this season were extremely supportive about the possible switch and were committed to changing their setups over for the following season.

        Talks with sponsors have already gotten underway for next season. The response and support has been extremely positive and has great momentum moving forward.

"Some sponsors have already renewed and increased their commitment in response to this decision," Walked added. "Our sponsor's input was vital in this decision."

When Airborne first opened back in 1954, the track had a dirt surface. Since that time, the track has changed from dirt to asphalt, back to dirt, only to go back to asphalt in 1990. The last 26 years have been spent as an asphalt track and now a new chapter will begin with the surface change.

TORONTO, ON // OCTOBER 27, 2016 • The Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo Presented by Mothers returns to Toronto's International Centre March 10, 11 & 12, 2017. PASS Championships To Be Decided At Concord's North-South Shootout Finale

CHARLOTTE, NC (October 31) – As the weather cools and the seasons change, another Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model season will go into the books this weekend at Concord Speedway.  This year two great events will come together as the PASS Super Late Models will compete for 125 laps in the Mason-Dixon Meltdown as part of the 14th Annual North-South Shootout.  In addition, both the PASS National Championship and PASS South Super Late Model titles will be decided on Saturday afternoon in the Meltdown.

Since 2008, the PASS National Championship has become Super Late Model racing's only true undisputed national title. Coming into this weekend's action, Turner, ME's Ben Rowe will be seeking an unprecedented fourth PASS National Championship crown.  In his first start at Concord Speedway in 2007, Rowe edged out Corey Williams to take the win in the second ever running of the Mason-Dixon Meltdown.  While Rowe enjoys a fairly healthy 72-point advantage, New Hampshire's Jeremy Davis will be making his first trip down to Concord Speedway in hopes of upsetting Rowe for the national championship.

The race for the PASS South Super Late Model title, however, is much closer.  Kodie Conner and Matt Craig are separated by only four points entering Saturday's 125-lapper and there are plenty of ironies that surround the two drivers.  In addition to both being teenagers, each are from nearby Kannapolis and both started racing across the street from the Concord Speedway half-mile at the facility's quarter-mile track; Conner in Bandoleros and Craig in Legends cars.  When either driver wins the championship this weekend, they will join Alex Haase, Ryan Blaney, and Tate Fogleman as teens that have been able to claim the South's oldest Super Late Model title.

Conner comes into this weekend's Mason-Dixon Meltdown finale as the unlikely points leader, considering that this is his rookie season competing in PASS Super Late Models.  But, a strong runner-up finish early in the season at Dillon Motor Speedway and his first start in the prestigious Oxford 250 have shown that Conner has what it takes to compete alongside short track racing's best.

"I know going into the Meltdown at Concord, it's going to be tough, but to be competing for the championship and having a four point lead does help," says Conner, driver of the Champion Spark Plugs/Trump For President Toyota #45.  "It's been a great year, we became teammates with Matt Craig, so a battle among friends will determine the champion."

Likewise, Craig has had a breakout season that has seen him emerge as one of the top Super Late Model racers in the country.  Like Conner, things started quickly for Craig, charging back from an electrical problem to capture his first career PASS South Super Late Model win in April at Caraway Speedway.  Craig led the points at times during the summer and just missed out on more checkered flags at Anderson Motor Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway.  Craig returns to Concord Speedway on Saturdaydriving for his family-owned team.  The same team that drivers such as Clay Rogers, Rodney Childers, and Jeff Fultz have driven to victory lane at Concord in the past.

"I really hope we can pull it off this weekend and win the championship," says Craig, who drives the C&C Boilers Sales & Service #54 Chevrolet.  "I think the best thing for me this week is to go through my regular routine, try not to think about it all week, and be ready to go on Saturday at Concord."

While the championship leaders will be fighting for the titles, drivers from across North America will be looking to get to victory lane on Saturday.  Trevor Sanborn will make the trip down from Maine driving the potent Woodman Racing #4, while fellow Mainer Dave Farrington, Jr. will be making his first trip to compete in the south.  JP Josiasse once again makes the 20-plus hour trip from Ontario, while on the other end of the spectrum, Dustin Dunn heads up from Florida for his second PASS South start, as well as Terry Horak.  Georgia's Spencer Davis returns to PASS for the first time this season, and will be joined by Oklahoma's Tanner Berryhill and New York's Christian Eckes.  Local favorites looking to go to victory lane will be Jared Irvan, Wes Burton, and Jake Spillers.  

All the action gets under way on Thursday at Concord Speedway with an optional practice for all divisions from Noon – 6 PM. On Friday, practice begins at 10 AM, with qualifying at 5 PM, and features for the Vintage Modifieds, Street Stocks, Vintage Sportsman, and Mini Stock starting around 6:30 PM.  Then, on Saturday, practice starts at 9 AM, followed by the Pit Party at 12:30 PM, and main events going green at 2 PM for the PASS South Super Late Models, Tour-type Modifieds, Limited Late Models, SK Modifieds and Vintage Cars.

Newton, Caroline du Nord, 29 octobre 2016 --  Raphaël Lessard, le jeune pilote 15 ans protégé de Toyota/TRD, est passé proche de gagner le championnat des conducteurs du CARS Super Late Model Tour samedi soir au Hickory Motor Speedway alors qu'il a terminé en 3e position lors du Cloer Construction 300. Il s'en ait fallu de peu pour le pilote de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce qui est passé de 12e à la 2e position lors d'une épreuve pleine d'action. Il se retrouve donc avec 30 points d'avance sur son plus proche rival, et gagnant de la course - Brandon Setzer, ce qui lui facilitera la tâche de remporter le championnat lors de la dernière épreuve le 12 novembre.

 

Raphaël, au volant de sa Toyota Camry #99 FRL Express/Team Coach Imaging/Toyota/JBLAudiopréparée par l'équipe David Gilliland Racing, s'est qualifié en 12e position pour cette avant-dernière épreuve de la saison. Fidèle à son habitude, il est remonté en 2e position avant de glisser au 3e rang dans le tout dernier virage de la course. Ce fut une course âprement disputé pour Raphaël qui fut victime de plusieurs touchettes de la part de ses adversaires . C'est donc avec une voiture légèrement abîmée, qu'il s'est hissé dans le peloton des meneurs où il ne l'a pas eu facile. Malgré tout, Raphaël a su garder sa voiture en piste. 

 

Finalement, lors d'une relance dite "green-white-checker", qui veut dire drapeau vert, drapeau blanc et drapeau à damier, un à la suite de l'autre, Lessard a perdu la 2e place face à Riley Herbst. Le championnat est toujours à la portée de Raphaël qui détient maintenant 271 points face à Brandon Setzer et ses 241 points. En principe, Raphaël n'aurait qu'à prendre le départ de la prochaine course pour gagner le titre. 

 

« On s'est qualifié en 12e position cette fois-ci. À chaque fois que l'on court sur cette piste, la voiture ne semble pas bien aller au début. Après 15 ou 20 tours, après que les pneus se soient usés un peu, là ça va mieux » de dire Raphaël. 

 

« Lors de l'épreuve, je n'étais jamais au bon endroit au bon moment, on dirait. J'ai été pris dans plusieurs situations en piste qui m'ont fait perdre des positions. La voiture n'était pas parfaite, mais ça allait tout de même bien. On espérait une victoire, mais une troisième position ce n'est pas mal! » 

 

Quant à ses espoirs au championnat, le pilote reste confiant : « Je suis pas mal confiant, mais on va faire comme toujours lors de la dernière épreuve. Si on fait comme d'habitude, ça va bien aller! »

RAPHEL LESSARD: POURRAIT REMPORTER UN PREMIER TITRE

Toujours meneur, avec une avance de 35 points sur son plus proche rival, au championnat de la série CARS Super Late Model Tour après huit (8) courses, le natif de St-Joseph-de-Beauce, Raphaël Lessard, sera de retour en Caroline du Nord cette semaine sur le site de sa première victoire de la saison au Hickory Motor Speedway, à Newton, pour le Cloer Construction 300.

 

Le Hickory Motor Speedway est d'une longueur de 0.363 de mille (0.584 km) avec des inclinaisons de 14 degrés dans les courbes 1 et 2, 12 degrés dans les courbes 3 et 4, et 8 degrés sur les lignes droites. Le circuit porte le sobriquet '"World's Most Famous Short Track" et "Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars".

ARCA releases 2017 General Tire Superspeedway Challenge schedule

TOLEDO, Ohio (Oct. 26, 2016) - ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards officials have released the 2017 General Tire Superspeedway Challenge schedule featuring eight race dates across seven states at seven superspeedways.

"These tracks provided exciting race action in our inaugural season and just as we hoped, the General Tire Superspeedway Challenge came down to the end," said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for General Tire. "We can't wait to get back to these tracks to see what the 2017 season will bring. We know it will be worth watching." 

A tradition that began in 1964, ARCA's General Tire Superspeedway schedule kicks off at Daytona Int'l Speedway with the 54th running of the Lucas Oil 200 driven by General Tire Saturday afternoon, February 18. ARCA's season opener precedes NASCAR's Unlimited, which follows under the lights.

Talladega Superspeedway will host the tour next with the 55th annual General Tire 200 on the 2.66-mile superspeedway May 5. ARCA's first race at Talladega was in 1969.

Michigan Int'l Speedway is back on board for its annual Corrigan Oil 200 on Father's Day weekend Friday, June 16, the 36th ARCA race at Michigan since 1980.Kentucky Speedway race action 2016

Pocono Raceway, an ARCA tradition since 1983, returns with two races, the General Tire #Anywhere Is Possible 200 on June 9, followed by the ARCA Series 150 on July 28. The ARCA races at Pocono will be the tour's 64th and 65th on the 2.5-mile triangular superspeedway.

The 2017 season wraps with three consecutive superspeedway races at Chicagoland Speedway (Sept. 14), Kentucky Speedway on General Tire Super Weekend (Sept. 22) and the season finale at Kansas Speedway October 20. The events at Chicagoland and Kansas mark the 17th consecutive ARCA races at each track. The event at Kentucky is the 24th ARCA race on the Sparta, Kentucky mile-and-a-half track since 2000.

"High speed racing events at tracks over one mile in length have been a vital component of the ARCA Racing Series schedule since 1964, and the ARCA General Tire Superspeedway Challenge recognizes top performance across these venues," said ARCA President Ron Drager. "We value the opportunity to race at some of the greatest tracks in the world, and with every race car running General Tires it's fitting that the General Tire brand entitles the Superspeedway Challenge."

ARCA will share the announced race venues with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

"General Tire has truly stepped up to support ARCA's superspeedway events," said ARCA's Vice President of Business Development & Corporate Partnerships Mark Gundrum. "In addition to the naming rights and financial support for the superspeedway challenge, General Tire has engaged in several of the race events via title sponsorship, presenting sponsorship and weekend sponsorship." 

ARCA has crowned a General Tire Superspeedway Challenge champion every year since 1984, the late Davey Allison the inaugural superspeedway champion. Other superspeedway champions include Bill Venturini, Bob Keselowski, Mike Wallace, Tim Steele, Frank Kimmel, Erin Crocker, Chris Buescher and Brennan Poole. Dalton Sargeant, driving for Venturini Motorsports, is ARCA's most recent speedway champ (2016).

The General Tire Superspeedway Challenge champion team receives a $10,000 cash award at the year-end championship awards banquet each December.

ARCA officials expect to release the remainder of the 2017 ARCA Racing Series schedule in the near future.

NASCAR Updates Driver Participation Guidelines for 2017

New Guidelines Further Elevate Next Generation of Stars; Strengthen Series Identity

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 26, 2016) – In an announcement that will put an even brighter spotlight on the next generation of stars and bolster the identity of all three of its national series, NASCAR announced on Wednesday driver participation guidelines for the 2017 season. The new guidelines limit the number of events a premier series driver can race in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

 

Starting next season, premier series drivers with more than five years of full-time experience will be eligible to compete in a maximum of 10 races in the XFINITY Series and seven races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

 

Additionally, drivers with more than five years of full-time premier series experience will be ineligible to compete in the final eight races in each series, as well as the Dash 4 Cash races in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. The final eight races are comprised of the regular season finale and the entirety of the Chase in each series.

 

Drivers earning premier series points in 2017 also are not eligible to compete in the 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship Races at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

 

"The updated guidelines will elevate the stature of our future stars, while also providing them the opportunity to compete against the best in professional motorsports," said Jim Cassidy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. "These updated guidelines are the result of a collaborative effort involving the entire industry, and will ultimately better showcase the emerging stars of NASCAR."

 

Drivers with more than five years of full-time experience in the premier series still can run for an XFINITY Series or Camping World Truck Series championship, provided they have declared for championship points in the respective series.

 

Wednesday's announcement signals the next step in NASCAR's driver participation guideline evolution. Prior to the 2016 season, NASCAR announced that members of the 2015 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup field would be ineligible to compete in the 2016 Championship Race in both the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. In 2011, NASCAR implemented a rule requiring drivers to select one of the three national series in which to collect championship points.
