First-Timers Sign-In for Their Initial Autumn Colours Classic Starts

Racing heroes and hopefuls alike always look forward to the Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing. The 2021 edition of the Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil and Pure Country 105 – is slated for October 8th to 10th at Peterborough Speedway. When the green flag waves, several drivers from the close to 10 different racing divisions competing during the weekend will be making their first career start in the season-ending spectacular. 

 

Peterborough's Kyle Johnson finished 9th in his first full season of action in the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock field. The 28-year-old wheels the No. 02 machine, with sponsorship from Bar-None DJ Service and 12Fifty9 Graphics…Caledonia, Ontario's Spencer Riddell has been in the stands watching the Autumn Colours Classic for the last 6 years. This year, the Bone Stock racer – who calls Flamboro Speedway his home track – will take his first green flag in the race. He says Peterborough looks fast and competitive and he can't wait to see what he can do. He'll celebrate his 27th birthday on the first day of this year's event…In the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock ranks, Carol Dawson will make her first Autumn Colours Classic start. After running a limited schedule in 2020, the 52-year-old from Janetville, Ontario finished 10th in this year's final point standings…With past experience in TQ Midgets, Late Models, OSCAAR Modifieds and ice racing, 54-year-old Tim McKnight came out of retirement to join the Peterborough Speedway Mini Stock field in the No. 06 Mustang. The Tottenham, Ontario racer – whose brother races a Crate Sprint Car at Merrittville Speedway – ran well enough to finish 16th in the final 2021 running order. 

 

From the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series, teammates Josh Inglis and Anthony Einarson will each spend the event with a piece of yellow tape across the back bumper of their No. 51J and 89E machines. 25-year-old Inglis from Coldwater, Ontario has a background in Bone Stock and Mini Stock racing, while Einarson – who is 31 and hails from Orillia – had no racing experience before his Legends Series debut. Both cars carry backing from Simcoe County RV, Wally's Mechanical, Sunshine Car Wash & Detailing, Pinnacle Graphics, Richmond Group, Orillia Metal Fabrication and Einarson Trucking. 

 

The 2021 edition of the Autumn Colours Classic kicks-off Friday, October 8th with the first round of qualifying for Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Super Stock, Ontario Legends, plus the OSCAAR Hot Rod and Modified divisions. APC Auto Parts will also present the annual Young Guns events for the Mini Stock and Super Stock fields. Grandstand gates open at 5:00, with racing underway at 6:00.

NASCAR Pinty's Series Adds Two Delaware Races to Schedule

Championship schedule will be adjusted to 10 races after rainouts, covid restrictions

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR today announced the addition of two races at Delaware Speedway to replace three races that have recently been rained out – the twin features that were set to run at Autodrome Chaudière on Aug. 29 and the second race at Flamboro Speedway scheduled for Sept. 12. As a result, the Pinty's Series schedule will be reduced to 10 races.

 

The Canadian Tire 125 will take place on Friday, Sept. 24 and the Qwick Wick 125 will take place Sunday, Sept. 26 leading into the season finale, the Pinty's Fall Brawl.

 

"While it is unfortunate that we'll be unable to race at Vallée-Jonction this season, we have been proactive in maintaining contingency plans to ensure a full championship season for the NASCAR Pinty's Series," said Chad Seigler, NASCAR vice president, international business development. "We want to thank our partners and tremendous fans at Autodrome Chaudière and look forward to returning to the track in 2022."

 

The previously scheduled Canadian Tire 150 and Budweiser 150 at Autodrome Chaudière were postponed after inclement weather. Due to covid-related guidelines in Quebec, the series was unable to reschedule those events.

La série NASCAR Pinty's ajoute deux courses au programme du Delaware Speedway

 

La série 2021 revient à 10 courses après les interruptions dues à la pluie et aux restrictions reliées à la covid.

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Floride – NASCAR annonce aujourd'hui l'ajout de deux courses au programme du Delaware Speedway le vendredi 24 septembre, afin de remplacer les trois courses qui ont récemment été remises en raison de la météo peu clémente : les deux courses qui devaient avoir lieu à l'Autodrome Chaudière le 29 août et la deuxième course au Flamboro Speedway le 12 septembre dernier. En conséquence, le calendrier de la série Pinty's 2021 passera à 10 courses.

 

Le Canadian Tire 125 aura lieu le vendredi 24 septembre et le Qwick Wick 125 se tiendra le dimanche 26 septembre, avant la course finale de la saison, le Pinty's Fall Brawl tenue plus tard en soirée.

 

« Bien qu'il soit regrettable que nous ne puissions pas courir à Vallée-Jonction cette saison, nous avons été proactifs en réalisant des plans d'urgence pour assurer un championnat complet pour la série NASCAR Pinty's, » a déclaré Chad Seigler, vice-président NASCAR, développement commercial international. « Nous remercions nos partenaires et les formidables amateurs de course de l'Autodrome Chaudière et nous avons hâte d'y revenir en 2022. »

 

Les courses Canadian Tire 150 et Budweiser 150 prévues à l'origine à l'Autodrome Chaudière ont été reportées à la suite du mauvais temps. En raison des directives relatives à la covid au Québec, la série n'a pas été en mesure de reprendre ces événements cette saison.

Tim Kirby Joins the Late Model Field at Peterborough Speedway

Their passion for the sport is what fuels a local racer's desire for competition. Huge sponsorship packages are rare and in most cases, it is the driver and a volunteer group of family and friends who prepare and help maintain the car. 

 

Tim Kirby – who hails from Carleton Place, Ontario – spent the majority of his motorsports career racing in different divisions, including Street Stock and ACT Late Model at Capital City Speedway near Ottawa. That track's closing in 2014 also marked the end of a chapter in the driver's racing career. Kirby says he's excited about running at Peterborough Speedway this year, but thinks being classified as a rookie at 57 years of age and with almost 20 seasons of experience is somewhat ironic. 

 

"I never thought we'd be on a 7-year racing hiatus, but sometimes life just works out that way. The team and I actually started talking about making a comeback around a year ago but COVID put those plans on hold," said the second generation racer whose father Bill raced Modifieds at Evans Mills Speedway during the 70's. "On the positive side of things, the delay gave us more time to work on the car. Since we weren't going to be in a position to run for points, making sure everything was ready for our first event after a lengthy break was more important." 

 

With multiple heat race and main event wins during his tenure in the sport, Tim Kirby – who chose his car number in tribute to Oswego Speedway racer Nolan Swift, his childhood hero – picks capturing the Pro Truck Series championship, along with the best appearing truck/pit crew award and winning a feature at the same track where his Dad raced as career highlights. While he's looking at his return to racing with a day-to-day agenda, he's confident that a combination of experience, some top-shelf equipment and hard work will lead to some positive results. 

 

"I'm very lucky to have positive people like Rick Grahame, Dave Waite and my girlfriend Jennifer Robert pitching-in behind the scenes and at the track to keep our No. 10 ride rolling," admitted the driver, who lists Kawartha Speedway and Evans Mills as the favourite tracks he has raced on. "Dan McHattie has been a wonderful resource to our team. I really have to thank him; not only for the amount of work he put into rebuilding the car to be ready for this year, but also for giving me the push I needed to keep pursuing the sport." 

 

Kirby also thanks his friends and family for their ongoing support and encouragement, with a special acknowledgement to sponsorship partners Grahame's Bakery, Inland Canada and Sign Design. The team's 2021 program is dedicated to the memory of Mike Lamothe, a good friend who loved racing and was very devoted to the No. 10 Late Model program.

NASCAR and National Science Teaching Association Launch New Science and STEM Curriculum for Teachers Nationwide

 

NASCAR-themed lessons and activities to engage diverse range of K-8 students;

educator resource will explore science and STEM applications in racing

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 11, 2021) – NASCAR and the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) today announced the launch of a new science and STEM learning curriculum for K-8 science teachers across the United States. The racing-themed science lessons will be available free of charge to educators nationwide on NSTA.org.

 

The collaboration between NASCAR and NSTA, the global leader in promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning, is designed to arm educators with fun and engaging content and activities for teaching science and STEM. NASCAR and NSTA worked together to create a series of unique science lesson plans including lessons on aerodynamics, friction and motion, light, sound, and more. 

 

"We are thrilled to partner with NSTA, a passionate community of science educators and professionals devoted to teaching and offering science resources to kids across the country," said Pete Jung, Chief Marketing Officer, NASCAR. "This collaboration provides NASCAR an incredible opportunity to make an impact in science education while introducing new generations to the sport."

 

Teachers will be able to access 18 racing-themed lesson plans and a STEM at the Track resource guide featuring an additional three activities through a landing page available on NSTA's website.  Educators will also learn about the newly available NASCAR curriculum through an ad that will run in Science Scope, NSTA's award-winning, peer-reviewed practitioner journal for middle level and junior high school science teachers.

 

For the second consecutive year, NASCAR will support the annual National Conference on Science Education, taking place in Chicago in 2022.

 

"It's very important to get students excited about the everyday science around them and the partnership between NSTA and NASCAR will provide educators with tools they can use to link important science concepts, such as force and motion and energy, to key elements of a sport so many students enjoy," said Erika Shugart, NSTA Executive Director. "We are very excited about this collaboration and urge all teachers to check out the free quality lessons and activities we have ready for them as they go back to school this fall."

 

Through its relationship with NSTA, NASCAR will work to bring elementary and middle school students to race events via free and discounted tickets and special family events hosted at NASCAR racetracks.

John Baker Jr. Captures the 1st Ontario Modifieds Win of the 2021 Season

It may have taken a bit longer than first anticipated but in the tour's first start since late in the 2019 schedule, fans of the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, presented by GEN-3 Electrical saw teams put on a show – Saturday, July 17th – during the Summer Kick-Off at Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval. 

 

Chad Strawn and multi-time series champion John Baker Jr. paced the starting field to the line for the 25-lap affair and within seconds of taking the green flag, Strawn was a man on a mission to claim the year's first checkered flag. With Baker Jr. in his rear-view mirror, the pilot of the No. 77 machine had built-up a strong lead and was working his way through slower traffic as the lap counter showed 9 circuits complete. 

 

The lead duo had moved out to nearly half a track's advantage over 3rd place running Alex Cuzilla, who was named rookie of the year during the 2019 season. A single car spin in the 3rd turn with less than a handful of laps remaining slowed the pace and it was on the restart from that yellow flag that everything changed for the race leader. 

 

"I messed-up the restart and the car was really loose off the corner," admitted Chad Strawn in a social media post. "That gave JBJ a good run going into the first turn. He had cleared me, but I was hoping he thought he wasn't clear and was going to leave me room to get back my spot. I ended up bumping into him trying to jam in back in there, spinning myself out." 

 

John Baker Jr. led the balance of the race distance and collected the win. Strawn regrouped and finished 5th. The pair chatted in victory lane, where Chad Strawn offered a handshake as an apology. Baker Jr. gave his racing friend a hug and called it a day. 

 

OMRS finishing order: John Baker Jr., Alex Cuzzilla, Rick Warnes, Bob Franks, Chad Strawn, James Townsend, Ben Gruntz, Willow Barberstock, Randy Hollingsworth.

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Peterborough Speedway notes: After running No. 62W throughout her career, Willow Barberstock has switched to No. 67 as a tribute to the memory of her friend Melissa Bullen…James Townsend ran the No. 52 OMRS Mod from the Mark Gordon team…The Ontario Modifieds Racing Series is slated to return to Peterborough Speedway Saturday, August 14th. Heating Up a Summer's Night at Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval

Temperatures during the week climbed to familiar mid-summer highs and while it was a little cooler by race-time, action on the track matched the mercury's mid-week levels as the 2021 schedule rolled-on with the Summer Kick-Off, presented by Lucas Oil Products – Saturday, July 17th – at Peterborough Speedway. 

 

Shawn Solomon and Angelo Novis brought the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stockers from the staging area for the night's first 20 lap main event. Solomon grabbed the early lead, with Jake Kelly slipping into 2nd. A quick caution flag for debris slowed the pace and brought Ryan Oosterholt into the fight. It was a 3-car battle for the lead, with Oosterholt taking the top spot with just 7 laps complete. Another yellow brought everyone back together but couldn't delay the eventual outcome. Oosterholt picked-up another checkered flag over Kelly, Novis, Mark Griffin and John Lavalle. 

 

Solomon and Oosterholt shared the Bone Stock qualifying event wins. 

 

Chad Strawn and John Baker Jr. paced the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, presented by GEN-3 Electrical teams to starting line for the tour's first headline dance of 2021. From the drop of the green flag, Strawn took off with just a single thought in mind. Getting to victory lane. The No. 77 ride was fast and the driver hit his marks lap after lap. He and Baker Jr. had nearly a half track's advantage over the 3rd place car when the yellow flag waved for a single car issue. On the restart, the lead duo came together on the way into the 1st turn. Strawn's car needed to be helped off a trackside curb, while Baker Jr. continued on his own. Baker Jr. scored the win over Alex Cuzzilla, Rick Warnes, Bob Franks and Strawn. 

 

Strawn had a pair of OMRS heat race checkered flags, with Cuzilla and Baker Jr. taking the others. 

 

With Kevin Strutt and Jeremy Kelly on the front row, the Jiffy Lube Mini Stockers rolled the Great Canadian RV green flag for their 20-lap feature. Kelly moved into the lead early, with Brad Lavalle taking the runner-up spot. The leaders caught the rear of the field with less than a handful of laps complete as Ryan Oosterholt was marching through the running order. Looking for the lead at lap 17, Oosterholt took over the spot as racers saw the white flag. At the checkers it was Oosterholt, Kelly, Lavalle, Ember Junkin and Strutt.  

 

Oosterholt continued his unbeaten 2021 season with a pair of Mini Stock opening round wins. Kelly and Strutt split the other 2. 

 

Sean Walker and Steve Powell paced the pack of Late Model hopefuls to the line to wrap-up the second week's feature race action. Powell grabbed an early lead, but the yellow flag flew before a single lap was scored. On the restart, Powell was back in front with Bryan Mercer running 2nd. The driver of the No. 81 had a strong piece and had as much as a 3-car length advantage until surrendering the top spot to Dan McHattie on lap 14. Try as he might, Mercer couldn't regain the position and McHattie picked-up the first Late Model win of the 2021 season. Mercer, Robert Cousineau, Kyle Batty and Powell completed the top 5. 

 

McHattie had a pair of qualifying heat victories, with Batty and Mercer splitting the others. 

 

Results are unofficial and subject to scoring review as well as post-race safety and technical inspection. 

 

Bullring bullet points: Even though tracks in other regions of the province cancelled shows because of rain earlier in the day, the Peterborough Speedway team rolled-off its complete show in just over 3 and a half hours…Blair Kelly of Peterborough collected $704 in the night's 50/50 draw…2019 Mini Stock track champion returned to the track at the controls of Kyle Novis' No. 45…James Townsend was at the wheel of Mark Gordon's No. 52 OMRS Mod, with Willow Barberstock running No. 67 on her Modified, in memory of her friend Melissa Bullen. 

 

Next on the agenda will see the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, KOD Disposal Super Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, hometown Late Model divisions and the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series Saturday, July 24th. NASCAR STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF JACK INGRAM

"There is no better way to describe Jack Ingram than 'Iron Man.' Jack was a fixture at short tracks across the Southeast most days of the week, racing anywhere and everywhere. He dominated the Late Model Sportsman division like few others. He set the bar for excellence in the Xfinity Series as its Most Popular Driver in 1982 and champion in 1985. Jack was an "old school racer" and his work on his own car helped propel him to Victory Lane hundreds of times. Of our current 58 NASCAR Hall of Fame members, he is one of only six that was elected based on his career and contributions in the grassroots level of our sport. On behalf of the France family and NASCAR, I offer my condolences to the friends and family of NASCAR Hall of Famer Jack Ingram."

Canadian Tire and Motomaster Batteries Join NASCAR Pinty's Series in Official Capacities

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 24, 2021) – NASCAR today welcomed previous series entitlement sponsor Canadian Tire back to the NASCAR Pinty's Series as the "Official Retailer of NASCAR in Canada." Motomaster Batteries also becomes the "Official Battery of the NASCAR Pinty's Series."

 

As part of the partnership, Canadian Tire and Motomaster Batteries will each be race entitlement sponsors for 2021 NASCAR Pinty's Series races – the Canadian Tire 150 at Autodrome Chaudière on Aug. 29 and the Motomaster Batteries 125 at Flamboro Speedway on Sept. 12.

The NASCAR Pinty's Series will hold two races at CTMP on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4 and 5. The series had raced at the historic venue every year before the pandemic-shortened season in 2020.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 29, 2021) – As part of the annual NASCAR Salutes Together with Coca-Cola initiative, the NASCAR industry will honor United States Armed Forces heroes and their families throughout Military Appreciation Month, beginning this weekend at Kansas Speedway.

 

Now in its seventh year, NASCAR Salutes Together with Coca-Cola begins for the first time at Kansas Speedway with the Buschy McBusch Race 400 (May 2 at 3 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM) and concludes with the return of 600 Miles of Remembrance during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway taking place Memorial Day weekend (May 30, at 6 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN and SiriusXM).

In conjunction with this program, U.S. Naval Officer and NASCAR driver Jesse Iwuji, will be welcomed as the newest Coca-Cola ambassador and will host many of the NASCAR Salutes Together with Coca-Cola events.

 

As part of the 2021 platform, NASCAR and Coca-Cola will celebrate the military community by showcasing stories of everyday heroes from local bases, in partnership with the USO, while also hosting at-track and virtual experiences led by Iwuji for military families through Troops to the Track.

 

Beginning this weekend at Kansas Speedway, a weekly pre-race show will launch on NASCAR.com and Facebook hosted by Iwuji alongside NASCAR personality Kim Coon. The show will highlight NASCAR Salutes for fans who are unable to attend a race in person and feature special celebrity guests, including Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers, race dignitaries and more.

Throughout NASCAR Salutes Together with Coca-Cola, FOX Sports will highlight military service stories from the industry across its NASCAR programming. Fans can participate this year by sharing a military member or family they salute on social media tagging #NASCARSalutes.

 

During the Coca-Cola 600 race weekend, NASCAR and Coca-Cola will host Gold Star Families, many of whom will have loved ones honored during the annual Memorial Day weekend 600 Miles of Remembrance. All 40 NASCAR Cup Series cars will feature the name of a fallen service member on the windshield during the race in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

 

Among the other NASCAR Salutes events and activities are the following:

  • Throughout the platform, fans can follow and engage with the NASCAR Salutes conversation on social media using #NASCARSalutes.
  • At Kansas Speedway and Darlington Raceway, as part of NASCAR Troops to the Track Hosted by Coca-Cola, active servicemembers from local bases will receive grandstand tickets.
  • AMR, the "Official Emergency Medical Services Partner of NASCAR," will feature the NASCAR Salutes Together with Coca-Cola branding on its NASCAR safety trucks and safety team helmets throughout the program.
  • In support of NASCAR Salutes, Charlotte Motor Speedway is again hosting its annual Mission 600 as a prelude to its pre-race salute to the troops prior to the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend. This year's program includes a mix of virtual and in-person experiences to connect members of the Coca-Cola Racing Family and other drivers with military bases.
  • Mack Trucks, the "Official Hauler of NASCAR," will again adorn NASCAR Salutes colors on its flagship NASCAR hauler. This year's Mack Anthem scheme will be chosen by fans through a social media vote taking place until Friday, April 30 and will be unveiled on Saturday, May 1.
  • M&M'S, the "Official Chocolate of NASCAR," will provide 100 tickets to active-duty service members and their families from Fort Hood as a part of their partnership with Operation Gratitude during NASCAR's debut weekend at Circuit of the Americas.
  • For more than 10 years, Goodyear has transformed its NASCAR race tires by replacing its iconic "Eagle" sidewall design with a message to honor America's military.  In 2021, for the third season, Goodyear will feature "Honor and Remember," in recognition of the organization that worked closely with the industry for "600 Miles of Remembrance" to honor military lives lost while serving.
  • Through a new special at-track experience in partnership with Coca-Cola, the USO and Charlotte Motor Speedway, a group of service members and their families will have the opportunity to learn to race simulators from eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series competitors. The simulators will then be donated to the USO.
  • During the NASCAR Xfinity Series Alsco Uniforms 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Xfinity, a Proud Premier Partner, will display red, white and blue Xfinity windshield headers on their race cars to showcase their company's commitment to hiring 21,000 veterans, National Guard and reserve service members, and military spouses who bring unique skills and experiences to Comcast NBCUniversal.
  • During Memorial Day weekend, Camping World will celebrate with red, white and blue windshield decals on all trucks racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Camping World is a strong supporter of all military branches and proudly displays 3,200 square foot American flags at its nationwide retail locations.
  • Leading into the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR drivers will discuss 600 Miles of Remembrance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (channel 90) during a special military tribute show airing at 1 p.m. ET. The Dialed In Salute to the Troops special, hosted by Claire B. Lang, will feature interviews with several drivers as well as service members from different branches of the military.
  • During the broadcast of the Coca-Cola 600, FOX will display the name of every U.S. Armed Forces member who lost his or her life since last year's Memorial Day weekend race as part of a special tribute titled "FOX Sports Remembers," an initiative begun in 2009. FOX's scroll will begin running during its pre-race show at 5:30 p.m. ET.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has announced fan-friendly pricing and policies for the 2021 dirt track season. As Vermonters demonstrate an ability to effectively control and mitigate the pandemic, management at the West Haven track remains optimistic that state health and safety regulations will soon look closer to normal.

State-mandated restrictions last year severely limited group sizes, forcing Devil's Bowl Speedway to make changes to remain financially stable. Those changes included eliminating free admission for children, eliminating discount pricing for seniors and teens, and raising ticket prices to $15 for all ages.

Although many restrictions are expected to remain in place for 2021, track promoter Mike Bruno has made changes to help families enjoy events more affordably. As a result, Devil's Bowl will reintroduce a lower $12 adult price (all ages, 13 and up) for weekly events, and a more affordable $5 child ticket will be offered at all events.

The new infield drive-in parking area – which was created to facilitate social distancing – quickly became an exciting option for fans, and it will remain an important part of Devil's Bowl moving forward. A new access road, a new entry and exit point, and a new infield food and beverage concession stand will be constructed in the spring, which will greatly improve the infield experience. Infield admission will remain $20 for adults and free for kids.

Online advance ticket sales remain a convenient option for the grandstands in addition to at-track sales on race day. Infield tickets will only be sold at the speedway on race day in 2021 due to the uncertainty of rain and resulting soft grounds that would close the infield.

Pit area admission remains consistent at most weekly events at $25 for 2021 Devil's Bowl Speedway license holders and $35 for non-members. Discussions are underway about the possibility of online advance sale pit passes.

Special events will have different pricing in the grandstands, infield, and pit area, and all prices and policies are subject to change dependent upon state mandates.

Season passes are now available for the grandstands and the pit area. Grandstand general admission season passes are $300 for adults and $50 for kids. Reserved general admission seating is also available for an additional $50. Season pit passes area available for $600 for members and $800 for non-members.

Mike's Fuels of Bridport, Vt., presents Devil's Bowl Speedway's 55th season opener on Saturday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m. The 30-lap Sportsman Modified feature will pay a whopping $2,500 to win, and the Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and 500cc Mini Sprint classes will also be in action.

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Unveils a Tentative 2021 Schedule

It's a simple concept that's easy to understand. Racers just want to race. That's what made things so tough for OMRS drivers and teams. Despite the best intentions of tour officials, the 2020 schedule fell victim to government restrictions caused by the COVID-19 Coronavirus and was cancelled before anyone had even turned a lap on the track. With an optimistic look to the future, a tentative calendar of events has been released that could see the popular series – presented by GEN-3 Electrical – run 7 shows. 

 

"Everyone has their fingers crossed and we're hoping things will head in a different direction for 2021," said Ontario Modifieds Racing Series spokesperson Rick Warnes. "Early indications point to about a handful of new teams joining the fold and even though it has been more than a year since he celebrated clinching the title, each driver in the field has their sights set on unseating reigning champion John Baker Jr." 

 

Subject to COVID safety guidelines in place at the host venues, this year's agenda will get rolling with a pair of dates – Saturday, May 29th and Saturday, June 19th – at Peterborough Speedway. Action shifts to Flamboro Speedway Saturday, July 3rd. While all OMRS shows pay the same number of team points toward the overall title, Warnes says the highlight of the schedule will be the inaugural running of the Bill Pickford Memorial – Saturday, August 14th – at Peterborough. 

 

"A good friend of the sport and strong ambassador for the series, Bill passed away toward the end of the 2019 season," explained Rick Warnes. "At the year's awards celebration, we announced plans for an event to honour Bill's memory and his dedication to our brand, as well as stock car racing across the province. Taking the checkered flag in this prestigious race is sure to become an annual badge of honour for OMRS drivers."
