Thaw Is Over As PASS North Racers Get Set To Crank Up Season at Oxford Plains

NAPLES, ME (April 17) – After what seemed to be a never ending off season, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North competitors in the Super Late Model, Modified, and Sportsman divisions will begin the 2013 season this Sunday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway. This weekend’s Ripley and Fletcher 150 will take on added importance for the PASS North Super Late Models since they will head back to Oxford on July 21st for the 40^th Annual TD Bank 250. A fact not lost on 6-Time PASS North Champion Johnny Clark.

“There will be a lot of heavy hitters and all the teams will be raring to go at Oxford,” said Clark. “Everyone wants to make a statement that they're ready for the 250. I can't think of a better way to kick off the season then rolling into victory lane at OPS.”

The 2012 season was a bit of disappointment for Johnny Clark. Finishing fourth in points with two wins would be a great year for most drivers, but not for the man trying to stake his claim as one of the greatest racers New England has ever seen.

“I'm really excited for the start of the 2013 season,” said Clark. “We have been in the shop working hard prepping our equipment to have a successful year. The team is anxious to get going and make a solid run for a seventh PASS North championship.”

But, two of the drivers he will have to contend with at Sunday’s Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 are the two men that came to Oxford last fall battling for the championship…Travis Benjamin and Cassius Clark. Benjamin was a picture of consistency throughout the 2012 season, while C. Clark made a late-season surge for the title. In the end, Benjamin prevailed by 19 points over C. Clark to etch his name in the PASS record books as only the fourth different driver to ever claim the series title.

“It’s going to be pretty exciting being announced as the defending champion,” said Benjamin. “This weekend’s race will be a good race with a lot of cars. Everyone is trying to get a good setup for the 250. I think starting up front is going to play a huge roll in who will win this race. It could definitely come down to the luck of the draw.”

For Cassius Clark, last year was another near miss at the PASS North championship. But, his series leading three wins is even more impressive when considering that 2012 was his first full season racing with the Hight Motorsports team and crew chief Brian Burgess. Anything less than consistently winning and threatening for another championship will be considered failure for the veteran from Farmington, Maine.

“We won some races last year and came up just a little short of the championship,” said C. Clark. “All in all, we had a great first year together but we all want more and have worked hard over the off season to achieve that. We are more ready than we were last year and have all worked together for a while now. Plus, Brian and I are getting a good feel for our Port City chassis.”

Starting at Oxford Plains with the Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 could make for a long season for C. Clark’s fellow PASS North competitors. Maine’s most famous racetrack is one Cassius’ favorite and a place he has found success at often.

“I’m really looking forward to getting the season started at Oxford, one of my home tracks and a track I've had a lot of success at in the past with 3 wins,” said the 2008 PASS National Champion. “Hopefully the weather is great and we get a great turnout bringing the PASS Super Late Models back to one of Maine's premier tracks.”

Car counts for the PASS Southern Late Model tour have averaged well over 30 cars through the first four races and PASS North looks to be no different with a great field expected on Sunday. Former TD Bank 250 winners and father-son duo Mike and Ben Rowe return looking for more Oxford success. Speaking of former Oxford Plains winners Austin Theriault and Scott Mulkern have also filed early entries. DJ Shaw, Trevor Sanborn, Joey Doiron, and Kyle Desouza will represent the ever growing PASS youth movement looking to make a statement. Former track champion Tim Brackett will try to hold the homestead down as will fellow Maine drivers Bradley Babb, Corey Bubar, Curtis Gerry, David Farrington, Jr., Reid Lanpher, David Oliver, and Bobby Timmons. A strong Canadian contingent will be represented by New Brunswick’s Matt Matheson and Quebec champions Alexandre Gingras, and Jean Francois Dery. Derek Ramstrom hopes to parlay a top 10 finish in the most recent PASS South event into a good run at Oxford along with fellow Massachusetts driver Tony Ricci. New Hampshire racers Dan Colby and Bryan Kruczek also hope to get the season started off on a good footing in the Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 along with many more drivers expected.

Action gets under way on Saturday, April 20^th for the Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 with rotating practice from 11 AM – 4 PM for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, PASS Sportsman, Street Stocks, Minis and Outlaws. On Sunday, April 21st, pit gates open at 8 AM, with rotating practice for all divisions from 10 AM - 12:45 PM, heat races at 2 PM, and main event racing to follow.

C'est confirmé! Le champion fait l'acquisition d'un Super-Late Model pour particper à la Triple Couronne : Donald Theetge

La rumeur se confirme finalement, Donald Theetge participera aux trois épreuves de La Triple Couronne PASS La Québécoise et la course Invitation Super-Late Model à L'autodrome Chaudière. C'est au volant de la fameuse voiture numéro 80 que le pilote de 46 ans se mesurera aux meilleurs pilotes de la série PASS afin d'en mettre plein la vue à ses partisans sur l'ovaled'un quart de mile de Vallée-Jonction. L'homme d'affaire de Boischatel ne compte pas seulement participer aux épreuves de la Triple Couronne mais bien être un aspirant sérieux au championnat. En effet, Donald à fait l'acquisition d'une voiture neuve du réputé fabricant de voitures américain Mitch de Race Basics. La voiture sera entretenue et préparée pour chacune des épreuves dans les garages de Race Basics dans l'état du Maine.

Donald Theetge est un excellent pilote et il a un résumé plus qu'impressionnant : Il possède trois championnats de la série LMS Québec et 17 victoires depuis l'année 2005.

Le pilote se sent d'attaque pour la triple couronne : «Après l'annonce de Vallee-Jonction concernant la venue de Kyle Bush, la pression de mes coéquipiers et sans fut très forte afin que l'on soit présent à cette course ainsi que les autres événements, je vous annonce que l'entente est réglée depuis un mois et demi. Personne n'était au courant car je voulais faire ce plaisir à mon équipe et mes fans. Ceci représente un nouveau défi et un retour aux sources avec des moteurs hyper puissants. Je suis conscient que la compétition sera élevée mais j'ai l'intention de donner mon 110% afin d'être compétitif et c'est pour cette raison que j'ai collaboré avec Mitch et Judy de Race Basic pour me procurer une voiture performante. De plus, Mickey, le garçon de Mitch prépare également la voiture d'Austin Thériault en Pass nord. Je dois souligner que Mickey est en constante discussion avec les gens qui préparent la voiture de Thériault dans le sud, qui est la propriété de Brad Keselowski.»

Hebert Surges To First ACT Victory

Lee, NH -- American Canadian Tour Rookie of the Year Jimmy Hebert disproved any ideas of a sophomore slump by earning his first-career ACT victory in style at the New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 14^th. North Haverhill, NH's Travis Fadden and Rowley, MA's Eddie Macdonald finished out the podium for the season opening event.

The race began with Tiverton, RI's Ray Parent going door-to-door with pole sitter Fadden for the first six laps, until overtaking him for the early lead. Fadden stayed hooked to Parent's back bumper as the field stretched out, bringing defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. into third behind the two leaders. As the pair worked through lap traffic, Hebert worked his way from the 15^thstarting position to tenth, highlighting a string of daring moves with a 3-wide blast on lap 32. By lap 57, Hebert had maneuvered his way through the field to 6^thplace. Parent and Fadden continued to battle for the lead through lap traffic until a quick move by Fadden left Parent pinned behind a lapped car. Fadden stole the lead back, and showed the way until the first of six cautions on lap 89.

When the race returned to action, Fadden ran with the lead while Milton, VT's Scott Payea worked on Parent for second with Hebert in tow. After a handful of laps door-to-door, Payea earned the spot, but half-a-lap later found Hebert diving underneath him to take over the runner-up position. By lap 116 Hebert had caught Fadden for the lead, but an attempt to take it came up short when Fadden used the lapped cars to his advantage once again. While the two young guns battled at the front, two-time Bond Auto ACT Invitational winner Eddie Macdonald silently worked his way up to third from the 18^th starting position.

On lap 125, the battle paused as Quebecer Alex Labbe and Somerville, MA's Jimmy Linardy spun in front of the field in turns one and two. When the race resumed, leader Travis Fadden had a mirror full of hometown hero Macdonald as he tried to pull away from Hebert who started outside. The race was slowed once again by a third caution, this time for Helliwell, who took an uncharacteristic spin in turns three and four after tight contact in the pack. Hebert learned from the first restart, and this time around, stole the lead using the outside lane while Macdonald dove underneath Fadden for second. A pair of spins slowed the race again on laps 130, and 131, leaving sophomore Hebert to fend for himself against the veteran Macdonald with Fadden on his bumper. On lap 136, Turner, ME's Glen Luce – who had been solidly inside the top ten all day – took a heartbreaking spin in front of the field to set up the final caution of the event.

When the green flag flew, Hebert powered ahead and brought Fadden with him, pushing experience aside and forcing Macdonald to third. Steuben, ME's Rowland Robinson and Parent shared career days finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Ben Lynch, Dave Farrington, Jr., Rookie Travis Stearns, Brian Hoar, and Scott Payea rounded out the top ten.

"This is just incredible I can't believe we did it," said an ecstatic Hebert in Victory Lane. "That's the first time this car has been on the track, and I'd say it's bad fast!"

Runner-up Travis Fadden was just as excited.

"Yesterday was the first time I've ever been around this place," said Fadden. "Earning the pole for today and getting second place is just awesome."

The race was completed in 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 27 seconds, and was slowed by just six cautions.

Hebert becomes the first Bond Auto Parts ACT Invitational Qualifier with his New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150 victory. The American Canadian Tour will head to Barre, VT's Thunder Road for the 15^th Annual Merchants Bank 150 on Sunday, April 28.

Un sportsman Québec change de main.

La rutilante SS #43 propriété de Julien Bernier de Ste-Marie à maintenant une nouveau propriétaire.

Vincent Maheu et Jason Morand ont fait l'acquisition de cette voiture hier. La voiture deviendra le #59 et sera piloté par Jason Morand de Ste-Marthe-Sur-Le-Lac.

Morand, un jeune pilote issu d'une famille de stock car, a une belle fiche à son palmarès. Champion Sport Compactes 2012 à l'Autodrome St-Eustache, Champion de la TRIPLE COURONNE BESTBUY PIÈCES D'AUTOS RIVE SUD SPORT COMPACTES EN 2012 et gagnant de quelques finales sur les autres ovales du Québec dans cette même classe.

Jason sera surement un fier compétiteur pour le championnat des Recrues CONCTRUTION GCEG 2013 en Sportsman Québec.

ACT Pit Report – Lee USA Speedway

Lee, NH - The American Canadian Tour Late Models hit the track for the first time in 2013 with an optional practice at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH. Thirty-six (36) cars took advantage of the practice day in preparation for tomorrow's (Sunday, April 14) NH Governor's Cup 150 season opener.

Former ACT champions dominated the top of the speed charts in each of the four practice sessions. Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT led one of the four sessions while seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT topped the final two. Multi-time Lee USA track champion and defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH held down the second fastest spot in each of the four sessions.

Luke Hinkley, Eric Chase, Ray Parent, Ben Lynch, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., Chip Grenier, and Travis Stearns all spent time near the top of the speed charts.

Boischatel, Quebec's Donald Theetge and Alex Labbe of St-Albert, Quebec represented the Série ACT Castrol. A brake failure on the Theetge automobile sent him hard into the turn 1 and 2 wall during the second practice. Theetge and his team worked hard to make the necessary repairs just in time for the final session of the day and they will be ready for the event tomorrow.

Waterbury, VT – Race season is finally upon us as the American Canadian Tour kicks off their 2013 season with the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 14^th. The pressure will be on for last year’s winner Brian Hoar and 8-time Lee USA Speedway Champion and defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr., but the competition will be hungry after a long offseason away.

Rowley, MA’s Eddie Macdonald, a 2-time Bond Auto ACT Invitational winner, will make the trek to Lee, NH, making him one of the early favorites. He led laps late in last year’s opening event, but was caught up in an altercation with Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. that ended both drivers’ hopes at the win.

Two-time Série ACT Castrol Champion Donald Theetge will be crossing the border to represent the Canadians, along with fellow Quebec racer Alex Labbé, who will be driving the familiar ride of former Castrol Series Champion Karl Allard out of the Larue Motorsports stable.

Emily Packard will also join the list, racing for the first time at Lee in ACT competition. She impressed with a top ten run at Thunder Road, and Rookie of the Year honors at Canaan Speedway in 2012, and now looks to the American Canadian Tour to continue her resume.

ACT Rookie of the Year contender Travis Stearns will begin his first full season with the Tour at Lee, NH, sporting his brand new car owned by long-time car owner Richard Green. He will be joined by seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr ,Oxford Plains Champion Shawn Martin, ACT veteran Glen Luce, and many others.

Car Show Returns to Barre

Barre, VT – The snow is finally melting as race teams and fans prepare for the first real sign of springtime: The 15^th Annual Merchants Bank 150 at Barre’s Thunder Road on the weekend of April 27/28.

The race serves as the opening point-counting event for the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks, but will also bring in the stars of the American Canadian Tour to challenge the local Late Model division. Last season fans saw 8-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar pick up his second win of the season at the Nation’s Site of Excitement, with eventual ACT champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. on his tail. Helliwell will be looking to score the victory at his home track, but he joins a long list of favorites to steal the opening event.

7-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr knows the toils of the Merchants Bank event all too well.

“Last year I thought we had it won before a mis-communication on pit road,” said Cyr, referring to when he pitted late in a caution, giving up the lead and starting at the back of the field mid-race. “I love Thunder Road, so I’m ready to go out and win it this time around,” he finished.

Defending King of the Road Nick Sweet will lead the charge of Thunder Road regulars looking to defend their home track, including young star Cody Blake, 2-time King of the Road Dave Pembroke, and multi-time Champion Phil Scott. Sweet won the previous two Merchants Bank 150 events back-to-back before a tenth place finish in last year’s race.

The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen saw long-time veteran Blair Bessett pick up his first victory in his 34-year career in last year’s opener, while Allen Lumber Street Stock driver Tommy “Thunder” Smith picked up his division-leading 23^rd victory.

“I love the opening day race. It’s just awesome to get strapped in again and go,” said Smith. “Every race counts in the season, and I want it all this year. This race is a great one to win and get a leg up,” he finished.

The event will start with the Annual Car Show, which will be held in downtown Barre on April 27 once again after a 1-year hiatus for construction. Nearly 100 pristine stock cars will be lined up on Main Street along with drivers and crews, pit crew challenges, and more.

The Merchants Bank 150 will be held the weekend of April 27/28 at Barre’s Thunder Road.

Organization To Back PASS North, Beech Ridge Teams This Season

FALMOUTH, Maine – For the second time in as many seasons, Mulkern Racing have representation in both the PASS North Series and in weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in 2013.

Veteran pilot Scott Mulkern of Falmouth, Maine, will make his return to full-time PASS racing for the first time in a decade after several seasons of part-time efforts, while Bobby Timmons III of Windham, Maine, will return to the seat at Beech Ridge where he was a rookie in 2012.

"I can say 'thank you' over and over again, but it doesn't really truly show how appreciative we are – me, my father and my team – of what everybody at Mulkern Racing is doing for us," Timmons said. "It's everybody at Mulkern Racing that's part of this. They help us out and give us everything we need.

"I think we'll be forever indebted."

It's a change at the top for Mulkern Racing, which has fielded multi-car PASS efforts over the previous three seasons but will pare down to one car for the majority of the tour's schedule this year. Mulkern himself hasn't competed full-time in the series, which he has been a longtime supporter of, since he finished fifth in the final standings in 2003.

"I've never really been a points racer," Mulkern said. "I've always wanted to do the whole thing again at some point, and this felt like the right time to give it one good shot."

Mulkern will have Gary Crooks of Mooresville, N.C., – who served the same position for the team's second car a year ago – as his crew chief on the familiar No. 84, with sponsorship from Southern Maine Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Community Pharmacies.

Mulkern made just seven PASS starts a year ago, after winning the 2011 season finale at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Timmons finished sixth as a rookie in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series standings at Beech Ridge in 2012, including his first career win in July. He'd like to improve upon that showing this season in the ultra-competitive top division at the track.

"Last year was pretty much as good as could be expected for our first season in these cars," said Timmons, who'll drive the No. 48 Southern Maine Chrysler Dodge Jeep/Community Pharmacies/Timmons Machine Dodge. "There were some nights where I felt we left a little bit on the table, but overall – looking at the whole season in one picture – it went about the way we wanted it to go. Yeah, we left some on the table, but it could have been a lot worse some nights, too.

"I don't think (the championship) is out of the question this year. That's my goal – but that's every racer's goal. To come out and say, 'I want to win a championship,' I think it's a no-brainer. I want to win one. Everybody who races does. You have to have good cars and be good every week, but you have to have good luck, too. Take nothing from (Brad Babb) last year, but he had some luck, too."

Timmons will enter the first PASS North Series race of the season, at Oxford Plains Speedway on April 21, but has no firm plans to run PASS races beyond that. He finished eighth in his PASS debut at Oxford Plains Speedway last October.

"It's all about seat time and having fun," Timmons said. "We're coming off a Top-10 run there last year, and we're bringing the same thing this time around – just with a lot more confidence. I'm really just looking to improve on that.

"We're really focused on what we're doing with Mulkern Racing. When we're not racing ourselves, we'll go and help Scott's team at the track with whatever they need."

Toledo's 7-Up 150 media spotlight getting brighter; add live audio, live timing & scoring at ARCAracing.com

(TOLEDO, Ohio - April 10, 2013) - Toledo Speedway's home-opener - the "Border Wars" 7-Up 150 - is getting bigger by the day. With more than 50 quality entries expected from 10-plus states across the country for the Saturday afternoon, April 20 big show late model race, the media spotlight is also getting brighter by the moment.

In addition to coverage on the BCSN TV network and Speed51.com, ARCAracing.com is getting in the game in a major way with live timing and scoring and live flag-to-flag streaming audio coverage. The combination of the two media platforms atARCAracing.com will mark the first time in history that the ARCA CRA Super Series and the ARCA Midwest Tour will be featured simultaneously in live streaming audio, accompanied by live timing and scoring.

It's already the first time in history the combined tours will compete together in the same race at the same track.

"We'll treat the 7-Up 150 for the ARCA CRA Super Series and the ARCA Midwest Tour exactly as we would the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards with respect to the live timing & scoring and live audio streaming on ARCAracing.com," said ARCA President Ron Drager.

The live timing and scoring element at ARCAracing.com begins Friday afternoon, April 19 with an optional practice session from 3 p.m. to 7. The combination of live timing and scoring in tandem with live streaming audio comes together Saturday for all the on-track activity, including practice at 11 a.m., followed by qualifying at 3 p.m. With so many entries pouring in, as many as two 'last chance' races will begin at 5 followed by an on-track autograph session that leads to pre-race ceremonies, and ultimately, the 7-Up 150 main event.

ARCA Racing Network anchor man Charlie Krall and color commentator Tim Clagg will provide the audio coverage.

PASS South Drivers Excited For Return To Southern National

For Immediate Release

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 10) – As the thermometer rises, so does the excitement level of Eastern North Carolina race fans as the "Big Boys With The Bad Fast Toys" head back to Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, NC. This weekend's Dogwood Blossom 150 marks the return of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models to Southern National for the first time since 2009. It will only be the third time PASS South has ever raced at Kenly. To show how tough the high-banked, 4/10 mile speedway is look no further than the record books and who came away with those checkered flags, Freddie Query in 2006 and Ben Rowe in 2009, two of the best to ever race Super Late Models.

In the late 1990's and early 2000's, Nashville, NC's John Batten was the man to beat when it came to Super Late Model racing at Southern National. Race wins were commonplace to the driver of the #48 Batten Ceramic Tile/Digital Repair/Hutson Insurance Chevrolet, who also won back-to-back Southern National titles in 2004 and 2005. Batten has been a regular with PASS South since the series started in 2006, finishing in the top 10 in points each of the last six seasons. But, despite being one of PASS South's most consistent drivers, Batten has yet to go to victory lane. And, 2013 has not started the way the veteran had hoped, finishing no better than 14^th at Dillon and failing to make the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory due to a blown engine in practice. The veteran hopes his luck can change this weekend at the site of much of his early racing success.

"Really looking forward to going back to Southern National," said Batten. "It's a place where we have been successful in the past and it's a great place to hopefully turn our season around. We would really like to get a great finish in front of the hometown fans."

When Southern National Raceway Park reopened in 2012 after being shuttered for nearly four years, it was a priority to keep Super Late Model racing alive at the track. A Super Late Model "mini-series" was held with goal of once again snagging valuable PASS South dates in 2013. Two drivers that competed in Southern National's "mini-series" were Karl Weber and Bobby Measmer, Jr.

While competing in the PASS Pro Late Model division last year, Weber got his feet wet racing in Super Late Models at Southern National. As a PASS South rookie this year, Weber is seeing many tracks for the first time behind the wheel of the #50 Farm Logic/Silveus Insurance Ford, a decided disadvantage compared to his competitors. But coming to Kenly, Weber feels he will be on an even playing field, perhaps with an advantage.

"We're really excited about Southern National coming up," said Weber, nicknamed the 'Flying Farmer' thanks to his family business. "We ran the local series there last season and got Rookie-Of-The-Year. It definitely gives me an advantage knowing what the car's going to feel like which brings the whole team confidence for the Dogwood Blossom 150."

For Measmer, this weekend's action at Southern National gives him a sense of confidence. There is no other track on the circuit which Measmer has more experience racing on. And, he feels Southern National's track configuration plays right in to his team's hands.

"We ran the series at Kenly last year and ended the season really well, so I'm pumped to be going back," said Measmer. "I'm looking forward to going to a big motor track like Southern Nationnal with nice high banks, a lot of room to race, a lot of speed. It's a place I really enjoy running."

Another full field of the South's top Super Late Model drivers is expected led by PASS South championship contenders Kyle Grissom, Jay Fogleman, and Brandon Ward. Easter Bunny 150 winner Preston Peltier circles Southern National as one of his favorite tracks and will be returning along with teammate, Tyler Church. PASS North veteran Derek Ramstrom will make the trip down I-95 from Massachusetts to race at Kenly along with PASS South veterans Justin Allison, Bill Catania, Jody Measamer and Kevin Powell, returning to the driver's seat of Dicky Woodman's potent Q104 machine. Rookie contenders Brandon Lynn, Tate Fogleman, Bobby Gower, and Cole Timm will be joined at Southern National by a stellar group of talented youngsters including Jared Irvan and Joe Ryan Osborne. Trevor Noles steps into the Coulter Motorsports #2 as he and Tyler Audie make the move up from the PASS Pro Late Model division. And, longtime Southern National competitor Shelton McNair, Jr. hopes to take the M3 to victory lane for the first time in PASS South competition.

Action gets under way on Friday, April 12^th for the Dogwood Blossom 420 with rotating practice from 1 – 6:30 PM for the PASS South Super Late Models, PASS Pro Late Models, Limited Late Models, Chargers, Mini Mod Mayhem and Bandoleros. On Saturday, April 13th, pit gates open at 10 AM, with rotating practice for all divisionsfrom 12:45 PM – 4:20 PM, qualifying at 4:45 PM, the pit party at 6:30 PM and feature racing at 7 PM.

8-Time Champion, RPM Motorsports Set Sights Limited 2013 Schedule

GEORGIA, Vt. – After combining to win more races and championships than any driver and car owner tandem in the history of the ACT Late Model Tour, Brian Hoar and Rick Paya are shifting gears in 2013.

The decorated driver and owner/crew chief combination will compete part-time on the ACT Late Model Tour this season, beginning this weekend with the season-opening New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H., on April 20-21.

"I just have a lot going on business-wise and personal-wise, and I've been racing a long time," said Hoar, 40, who has won the last two ACT races at Lee USA. "Life is all about balance and balancing everything between family, work and racing. My family and I are just as busy as ever. Spending so much time racing (became harder) with all of my work requirements and things I wanted to do with the family.

"I've got some other stuff I've wanted to do, and it seemed like the right time to slow it down a bit."

Hoar, of Williston, Vt., and Paya, of Georgia, Vt., teamed to win three consecutive ACT championships from 2009-2011. Each won five championships previously – Hoar with his family-owned team before he went to the old NASCAR Busch North Series and Paya with Jean-Paul Cyr driving for him. While Hoar has 37 career Tour wins, nearly twice as many as the next driver on the all-time win list, Paya has crew chiefed his way to more than 30 victories.

The RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge Charger will compete in the first four ACT events of this season. They will also run a pair of August races in Canada, both the inaugural International 500 at Airborne Speedway and the Milk Bowl at Thunder Road International Speedbowl, and two extra-distance ACT events late in the season.

They may not be chasing the championship again in 2013, but they'll both certainly be looking to add to their impressive win total. Hoar said he doesn't plan to change his approach to race day at all.

"It's a simple answer: no," Hoar said. "It doesn't change my approach at all... I know if you want to win, you still have to have the fenders on it and be there at the end. I always try to race within mine and my car's capabilities. I try to race smart to be in position to win the fight at the end. I'm not going out there saying, 'Checkers or wreckers' – what's been successful for me has been my approach."

With his win in the Governor's Cup 150 last season, Hoar became the first repeat winner in the 23-race history of ACT at Lee USA. It's a track that suits both Late Model racing, and Hoar's driving style.

He'd like to make it three in a row this weekend.

"There's not a lot of grip there, and we've got a good setup for it," Hoar said. "I've always liked the track – the style of it, the way we race and pass there.

"We've had a great race car every year I've race for Rick there at Lee. I'm really pumped. We tested last week, and the car should be really quick. I'm looking forward to it."
