NASCAR Announces 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Schedule

NASCAR Announces 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Schedule

Innovative Air Titan Track Drying Technology At Every Sprint Cup Race Next Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2013) – NASCAR announced today the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule for the 2014 season, the 66th year of racing for the sport’s premier series.

In addition to the schedule unveiling, NASCAR announced that its revolutionary Air Titan track drying system will be available at every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend throughout the 2014 season.

For the 13th consecutive year, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule will consist of 36 points races as well as two additional weekends featuring non-points events. The Sprint Unlimited (Feb. 15) and two Daytona 500 qualifying races (both on Feb. 20) will take place before the season officially gets underway. The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway will take place on May 17, broadcast on FOX Sports 1.

“This season has delivered plenty of drama and excitement, and we’re anticipating even more for our fans in 2014 now that the Gen-6 car has competed at every track,” said Steve O’Donnell, senior vice president of racing operations. “Having the Air Titan at each NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend allows us to meet a very important goal set by our Chairman and CEO, Brian France: to drastically decrease track-drying time to the best of our ability and ensure our fans in the stands and those watching on TV get to see each race on its scheduled day.”

The season will open with the 56th running of the Daytona 500 live on FOX on Feb. 23 before moving west to Phoenix International Raceway (March 2) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway (March 9). Four tracks will undergo spring date changes: Texas Motor Speedway will hold its event one week earlier and move from Saturday to Sunday (April 6). Darlington Raceway will feature its race on April 12. Kansas Speedway will hold its first NASCAR Sprint Cup Saturday night race, with its event shifting to May 10, while Martinsville Speedway will host the series on March 30, a week earlier than in 2013.

For the fourth consecutive season, the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup will start at Chicagoland Speedway (Sept. 14) and conclude live on ESPN on Nov. 16 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Developed in-house at NASCAR’s R&D Center, the Air Titan progressed quickly following France’s directive to improve the racing product and fan experience in every form. Following testing in the summer and fall of 2012, Phase 1 of the technology was on-site at Daytona International Speedway in February. The 2012 Daytona 500 was the first to be postponed to the following day because of inclement weather.

Its race event debut was in April at Martinsville where it successfully decreased drying time in order to hold NASCAR Sprint Cup practice rather than have it cancelled. Air Titan’s biggest save to date was at Talladega Superspeedway’s rainy spring races where it shaved nearly an hour off drying time for both the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, allowing those events to be completed on their scheduled days. It also was in use Oct. 3 at Kansas for track conditioning purposes while also trimming nearly 45 minutes from drying time prior to the Goodyear zone tread tire test.

Street Stock Disqualified after Mini-Milk Bowl

Street Stock Disqualified after Mini-Milk Bowl

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                              TR-101013-67

Waterbury, VT – The 2012 Thunder Road Track Champion, Nick Pilotte, from Jefferson, NH was disqualified from the People’s United Bank ‘Mini-Milk Bowl’ after an engine teardown unveiled an illegal engine, according to the 2013 ACT rules for the Street Stock division. The violation was a mismatched set of pistons and heads.

During the same teardown inspection, Groveton, New Hampshire’s Jason Kenison was awarded the win. “We will have to examine the rulebook for 2014 as it relates to the Nissan 240SX,” said Dean Gallison, the ACT Director of Competition.

Third place finisher Tommy “Thunder” Smith from Williamstown, VT was torn down for the second time in the past couple of months and again was within the specs of the rulebook for the division. Smith was awarded second place following the disqualification.

Pilotte will lose purse, points for the season, and suspension for April-June events in 2014, if he chooses to compete at Thunder Road in 2014.

The Street Stock results from the 51st Milk Bowl, as well as the point standings, have all been adjusted and can be found at www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com.

JASON MORAND GAGNE LE CHALLENGE 200

COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE                                  POUR DIFFUSION IMMÉDIATE

Dimanche dernier à l'ASE

JASON MORAND GAGNE LE CHALLENGE 200

CE DIMANCHE, L'ENDURANCE 250 POUR VOITURES DE RUE 4-6-8

CYLINDRES

SAINT-EUSTACHE, 13 OCTOBRE 2013.

Quebec’s Alex Labbe Scores Booth Bros./H.P. Hood Pole Award

Quebec's Alex Labbe Scores Booth Bros./H.P. Hood Pole Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TR-100513
Barre, VT - Racing stateside is becoming very agreeable with 2013 Série ACT Runner-up Alex Labbe of St-Albert, QC.
One week after winning the ACT Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Park Speedway, the 20-year-old Canadian racer won the Booth Brothers/HP Hood pole award at Thunder Road and will start on the point in Sunday's (October 6) 51st Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl. He became the first Quebec driver to earn the pole award and the $1,000 bonus since Patrick Laperle in 2002.
Labbe best 49 other ACT Late Model teams when he turned Saturday's fastest lap (13.159) in qualifying. Three-time Milk Bowl winner Brian Hoar (13.206) will be his partner on the front row.
"This was my second time trying to qualify for the Milk Bowl," the former go-kart racer said. "The first time, in 2010, I didn't make it. I just wanted to get into the race, but the car felt really good. I practiced on older tires, but I went out on new tires for the time trial. In the 50-lap race, I let (Patrick) Laperle go. I want to keep my stuff for tomorrow."
Laperle, like Hoar a three-time Milk Bowl winner, handily won the first of three 50-lap qualifying events. He will start 3rd, alongside 2013 Thunder Road Late Model champion Derrick O'Donnell of North Haverhill, NH. O'Donnell edged Barre's Cody Blake in a tight battle in the second 50-lapper.
Row three will be comprised of Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, NH and Trampas Demers of South Burlington. Joey "Pole" ran the final half of his 50-lap qualifier up on the rim of the race track while Nick Sweet pressed him from the low groove. Polewarczyk Jr negotiated lapped traffic well enough to beat Sweet to the finish line by 0.03 seconds.
The Milk Bowl B-Feature Last Chance race rounded out the day's events. Barre's own Jim "Boomer" Morris won the 25 lap event, while Bobby Therrien took second. Both were good enough to qualify. Brooks Clark and Labor Day Classic winner Travis Stearns claimed provisionals to round out the 30 car field.
The first half of the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman "Mini Milk Bowl", consisting of 35 raucous, high-attrition laps, was won by Jason Woodard of Waterbury. Seasonal point leader Shawn Fleury moved closer to claiming the 2013 track championship by placing second at Woodard's bumper, just ahead of his closest rival Mike Ziter of Barre.
Groveton, NH's Jason Kenison claimed the first leg of the Allen Lumber Street Stocks Mini-Milk Bowl. He edged out Donnie Yates and Nick Pilotte.
Post time for the running of the 51st People's United Bank Milk Bowl, comprised of three 50-lap segments, is set for 1:00 p.m tomorrow (Sunday, October 6). The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will run their final segments of their Mini-Milk Bowls and the Rough Riders will be on hand for a special event of their own. Opening ceremonies begin at 1:00pm.

ACT Young Stars Ready to Spoil Milk Bowl for Veterans

ACT Young Stars Ready to Spoil Milk Bowl for Veterans

For Immediate Release:                                                           ACT – 100313-66

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) young stars heading to the 51st Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl has a list deep in numbers and talent. Looking for first wins in what is arguably one of the most famous short track races in the country, first time winners include young local and young touring stars from throughout New England and Quebec.

Thunder Road hopefuls who have not held up the Milk Can are led by two-time ‘King of the Road’ Nick Sweet. Sweet is the home-town kid who made Thunder Road his own playground, coming up through the ranks of 4-cyl racing, then graduating to the intermediate Limited Late Model Tiger Sportsman division. He is always a favorite to win at his home track in any event. “I guess I would like to win this race as much as any I have ever been in. I almost won at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s ACT Invitational a couple years ago. I’ve done well and been in a position for a win a couple times at the Oxford 250, and have been lucky to have won a few of Thunder Road’s big ACT events, but I am still missing the biggest one!. Maybe this is my year,” said Sweet.

Brooks Clark from the Mad River Valley has enjoyed a break-out season at Thunder Road. Clark is a steady 50-lap racer who fits the Milk Bowl format perfectly. “I have watched a lot of Milk Bowls, and been lucky enough to race in a few. I think the biggest thing is to have a strategy, take a few chances, and get really lucky. If you have that kind of day, you have a chance to be a Milk Bowl winner. It would certainly be special to our team if we could ever pull it off”, said Clark.

Early 2013 ACT point leader and winner of the Lee USA opening event to start the season off was Jimmy Hebert from nearby Williamstown, VT. Hebert also won on the SANAIR mile in mid-summer. The former Bond Auto Tiger Champion at Thunder Road knows his way around the high banks of the ‘Nation’s Site of Excitement’. Derrick O’Donnell, the newly-crowned 2013 Thunder Road Late Model Champion, is the only rookie ever to win the title. Another Tiger Champion, from Bradford, VT, O’Donnell made everyone take notice by winning the Memorial Day Classic is his first point race of the year, on his way to the title. Cody Blake, a second generation driver from Barre has proven he can get to the front under pressure. Earlier this summer he won the Governor’s Cup 150, beating Clint Bowyer and 29 other teams.

The young touring talent who will look to give their race team a big win heading to the off-season includes teams from both sides of the border. A breakout season for Alex Labbé from Ste. Albert, QC saw him win two Série ACT events in Quebec. He beat the best of the US and Canada at the recent Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway for his third win in 2013. The Larue Industrial driver looks to cap a dream season at Thunder Road in the 51st Milk Bowl.

Another graduate with a Thunder Road Tiger title is Bobby Therrien from Hinesburg, VT. Earlier this season Therrien won a Tour race at White Mountain Motorsports Park, and finished an outstanding season in 4th place on the overall ACT US.

Seven-time ACT Champion and 2009 Thunder Road Champion, Jean-Paul Cyr said, “These young guys have great equipment, and they are talented drivers. We have seen many come through the Thunder Road system and it speaks well for the future of racing in our area. The 50-lap segments suit their style, probably better than the Tour guys that like the 100- and 150-lap long distance races. It would not surprise me at all to see one of the new young breed win the race. Whoever wins will need some luck,” the 1996 winner said.

Qualifying begins on Saturday with the Booth Bros./Hood Time Trials and Triple 50-lap qualifiers. First segments of the mini Milk Bowls for Tigers and Street Stocks will also take place on Saturday. Sunday is race day with all the features and ceremony that makes the Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl one of the great fall classic events in the country. Post time each day is 1:00pm. Gates open each day at 10:00am. Adult tickets are just $30.00 dollars for two days, $25.00 for Sunday and kids age 12 and under are free both days.

Between the nine former champions who will compete in the 51st running of the Milk Bowl is a group of champions who have earned the right to lift the legendary milk can 15 times.

Eight (8) time ACT Champion Brian Hoar from Williston, VT and four (4) time ACT Champion Patrick Laperle (three Série ACT and one US title) each have won the race three (3) times and will be looking to tie Robbie Crouch's record of four (4) Milk Bowl victories. "It really is unique in racing. First, it's not 150 or 200 laps of straight racing. Next, it is Thunder Road, which is a challenge in any race, and finally, there are going to be 20-plus 'regular weekly' Thunder Road teams who race 50-lap segments every Thursday night. All these factors make it a very tough race. I love it. It is old-fashioned, get-up-on-the-wheel, hold-your-breath and hang on," said Hoar.

When Laperle was asked why he put the Peoples United Bank Milk Bowl on his reduced schedule this year, Laperle answered, "Well, to be sure, I want to try out the new American Racer tires; also, my fans and team really enjoy camping at Thunder Road. The Milk Bowl is very, very tough to win. It takes a lot of luck, but the best part is it pays $10,000!"

Vermont favorites Phil Scott and David Pembroke are two long-time regular Thunder Road racers who will be there. Scott has won three Thunder Road championships and Pembroke has two "King of the Road" titles. They both have two Milk Bowl championships to their credit. Jean-Paul Cyr is another favorite with both a Thunder Road track title and a Milk Bowl win.

Tour regulars Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. from Hudson, NH and Brent Dragon from Milton, VT will each look for a second win. John Donahue from Graniteville, VT and three-time Thunder Road Champion Cris Michaud have each won the honor to kiss the cow in the Milk Bowl victory lane.

Post time is 1:00 Saturday for Booth Bros./Hood Qualifying with time trials, followed by triple 50-lap qualifying races. Bond Auto Tigers and Allen Lumber Street Stock divisions will also have mini Milk Bowl qualifying and first segments on Saturday. Sunday the action begins at 1:00pm. Tickets can be purchased for just $30 for two days and General Admission is just $25 for an adult ticket on Sunday. Kids 12 and under are free.
