Trois nouveaux circuits à apprivoiser rapidement Louis-Philippe Dumoulin sera en piste pour la première fois sur les circuits des provinces de l’Ouest. Après le A&W Cruisin The Dub « 300 » (Vernon, Colombie-Britannique), le Québécois participera à l’événement d’envergure qu’est le Edmonton Indy (22 juillet - Alberta) et le périple se terminera sur l’ovale du Auto Clearing Motor Speedway (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) le 25 juillet prochain. « Ca va être un blitz de trois courses avec les deux voitures n°47 WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare. Excepté pour le circuit d’Edmonton, nouveau pour tout le monde cette année [reconfiguration du tracé], l’équipe de mécaniciens de pointe qui travaille avec nous connaît très bien les circuits de l’Ouest canadien et nous définirons ensemble les différentes stratégies à adopter », mentionne la Recrue de l’année 2011 en Série NASCAR Canadian Tire. Particularités de la saison 2012 Cette saison diffère des années précédentes, notamment dans la définition de l’objectif principal du pilote de l’équipe de course Dumoulin Compétition ; il ne se bat plus pour gagner quelques courses, mais bien pour accumuler un maximum de points et terminer en tête du championnat. En compétitionnant régulièrement dans le top-cinq lors des quatre premières épreuves de la série (20 mai, 3, 16 et 24 juin), Louis-Philippe Dumoulin a démontré que les deux Dodge Challenger n°47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare sont compétitives tant sur tracé ovale que routier. « Avec déjà quatre courses de faites, nous sommes bien positionnés au championnat [cinquième]. Nous souhaitons non seulement maintenir notre position, mais également l’améliorer. Deux ovales et un circuit routier dans l’Ouest sont en soi un défi, je ne les connais pas du tout et je souhaite bien performer, poursuivre le mouvement, être à la hauteur notre partenaire majeur WeatherTech.ca qui offre des accessoires automobiles de technologies avancées », partage avec assurance l’instructeur de pilotage qui sera de retour au Québec dimanche (15 juillet) pour enseigner au Ferrari Driving Experience (Mont-Tremblant). La piste du Motoplex Speedway est en forme de « D » (tri-oval), c’est une piste rapide et le peloton de tête se détache rapidement des autres adversaires. Les variations de température (très chaud le jour et frais le soir) s’ajoutent à la complexité des ajustements mécaniques. En plus d’être considérée comme étant la plus longue course du calendrier (300 tours), cette épreuve est reconnue également pour le peu de drapeaux jaunes agités, d’où l’importance de l’articulation pertinente des arrêts aux puits. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin sera au volant de la voiture WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare nº47 (Heure du Québec : Essais 16h30-17h30; Qualifications 20h15; Course : 23h15). The Western events will come to a close at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway oval circuit (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) on July 25th. « The three races are going to be a blitz with the two n°47 WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare. With the exception of the Edmonton circuit, which will be a new track for everyone [new track configuration], the highly skilled mechanical team collaborating with us is well versed with the Western Canadian circuits, we will define the various strategies to implement », mentions the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Rookie of the Year. 2012 Season particularities This season differs from the previous years, notably in Dumoulin Competitions drivers’ defining of his main objective: he is no longer competing to win a few races but to accumulate a maximum number of points and finish at the top of the Championship. While regularly competing in the top-5 during the first four events of the series (May 20th, June 3rd, 16th and 24th), Louis-Philippe Dumoulin demonstrated that the two n°47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare Dodge Challengers are as competitive on oval and road circuits. « With four races already completed, we are in a good position for the Championship [fifth], we are hoping not only to maintain our current position but to improve it. The Motoplex Speedway is « D » shaped (tri-oval), it is a fast track allowing the leaders create a gap very quickly from the other contenders. The changing temperature (very hot during the daytime and cooler in the evening) brings forth the complexity of the mechanical adjustments. Even though this event is considered the longest race on the calendar season (300 laps), it is also known to have a low number caution flags, all the more important to have fluent pit stops.
