WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

EMILY PACKARD, Driver of the No. 9x Northstar Fireworks/Berlin Optical Expressions Chevrolet, On starting the 2013 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season this Saturday night"I''m excited for it. I haven't done the points-racing thing in a while now, so I'm ready for it to start up again. Two months ago, two weeks ago, we were getting ready for some of the ACT (Late Model Tour_ races, but now it's time to starting thinking about this.

"This weekend is not about finishing first, it's about finishing and finishing toward the front and starting our chase for the championship. We definitely have to play it smart and make sure we get the most out of it. It definitely makes things more interesting."

On her mindset heading into Canaan's regular season: "This weekend, I have to really prepare myself. This could make or break my championship dream. I really have to go in and focus on having a great run. The reason we really want to run Canaan again is to have a shot at that championship."

On why the NASCAR championship at Canaan is so important to her: "This year is definitely about learning as much as I can, but one of the reasons we're going back to Canaan is a big one. It's to be able to contend for the championship.

"It's been my home track since I started in a Late Model. With all the other things we're doing between Thunder Road and the ACT Tour, it's important that we have pretty good results at Canaan and keep our confidence up."
